He arrived on time, and was able to expertly evaluate the situation and explain exactly what he would do to not only build me a new facade, but also protect the integrity of the fireplace. He gave me an incredibly fair proposal with an expedited timeline. They did an awesome job replacing the old mortar around perimeter of the fireplace where it meets drywall. I will definitely use them for any future projects I have. They were very clean. We've had numerous contractors work on our home over the years, but I've never encountered the level of competency and professionalism we experienced with Cortes Masonry. From the first call, Manuel was friendly and punctual. He even helped us get some minor concrete work done after another contractor flaked on us - and we hadn't even officially hired him for the patio project yet. Manuel was even digitally savvy. He used a software program to manage estimating, contract signing, and change orders - documents each of us had access to online. Unlike a lot of contractor companies who send out an estimator and project manager at the beginning but then disappear when the actual work begins leaving workers on their own without onsite guidance, Manuel was present on the job almost every day. He even did quite a bit of the work alongside his team. Our project was semi-complicated and they handled every challenge with great skill and competency. I wanted a creative, organic looking, exposed-aggregate driveway and curved flagstone path that would fit the unique southwest design of my home. My concept would involve casting exposed aggregate rock-like shapes supported by bond beams, with careful control of the gravel and even more careful placement of artificial grass and specialized gravel in the narrow spaces between the shapes; similar to what nature might do to a large rock surface. Beyond this, the design involved plumbing and electrical sleeves, a percolation pit and blending it all in with an existing hand -built stone apron. In short, this "art project" needed a highly capable mason if it was going to come out right. I'm happy to say , it came out great. Manuel Cortes (Cortes Masonry) is intelligent and he worked well with my designer. His suggestions made my project better and he was always ready to make another trip to the stone yard. After the work began, Manuel's deep understanding of my design and the various processes involved (as well as the right suppliers) all helped to make things better. I called Cortes Masonry Construction and a dozen other concrete contractors with an emergency. Only two people responded, and one 4 days later. I was in a bind because I had a flooring contractor onsite replacing carpet in four bedrooms with hardwood. When they pulled up the carpet in one of the bedrooms the slab was cracked and a complete nightmare. Amul Cortes took my call that day, came to my house late in the afternoon, gave me a reasonable cost to complete the work, and was at my house the next morning at 8am sharp. He did what he said he would do, was on time every day, got the job done right, and saved me from a disaster. After building trust, I also had another job to remove patio pads off of two bedrooms, pour new slabs, and then lay stone on top. We had an absolutely stellar experience with Manuel and the folks at Cortes Masonry Construction. We moved into our new home in April and, upon doing, inherited a number of projects that had been neglected for some time. Among them, rebuild and replace parts of an outdoor bbq and "fire feature" area that had been custom-made by the previous owner. Included here was custom-treated concrete and detailed stonework. These elements alone made it difficult to source tradespeople who could capably handle the job. After talking with many vendors over the past few months, I found Cortes Masonry Construction here on Yelp and sent an inquiry. Manuel responded quickly - he's always available - and we setup an appointment to review the job in a couple of days. He arrived on time, we walked the job site and he prepared a detailed proposal. Work started just a couple of days later. The work - and their process - was meticulous. Clean, communicative, friendly, respectful....and beautifully done! I can't say enough good things about Manuel and how he runs his business. The cost was reasonable, the work is truly spectacular - the goal for us was to make the repair look like nothing had happened...and it does!
