We recently had our large driveway done by Western Pavers. This is a mixed review for the various stages we experienced. The designer Louis was very capable and did a good job for us which we appreciated. The first stage of operation-demo of existing concrete driveway wasn't so good, as the bobcat operator broke existing underground drain pipes, electrical pipe for irrigation wiring, irrigation line, chipped our front stamped concrete walkway that was not coming out, as well as chipped and cracked our lawn concrete borders! We would rate that employee as very poor in his work performance and damaging the clients property! The actual work of putting in the pavers went very well and the lead paver, Miguel did excellent work! Our driveway turned out very nice, but know this is an extremely dirty, dusty job and the homeowner will have much cleanup to do themselves! Best advise is to have someone with construction knowledge oversee the demo phase to try to advert problems and even then you may have some! read more

My backyard project is nearing completion and I have been very happy and satisfied with the entire team at Western Pavers. My project was complicated and ultimately delayed start due to a dispute with my neighbor, but Jerry Nowotarski the design team were extremely patient and prepared to get started as soon as I had resolved my issue. They had consistent communication and follow-ups and always showed up on time to appointments. The project process was straightforward and contracting was relatively easy and efficient. The construction team has been absolutely top-notch. Matt Springer is a fantastic PM; from bringing smart ideas to help optimize the space and design suggestions late into the evening to managing the various project deliverables he has been excellent to work with and has provided me with more information and project progress reporting than I could have hoped for. He has also kept the project on-schedule while juggling multiple work teams and sub-contractors required to complete various tasks. While the project is not yet complete; I can see the quality in the way the project is progressing and I don't feel like any corners are being cut. Cliff and Western Pavers did a wonderful job of redeveloping and improving our back yard landscape with a concept that had multiple living spaces with outdoor kitchen, patios, and multiple seating/relaxation areas. Our home is western facing with direct sun that led to a tarnishing issue with our outdoor path lights two years later. I called no less than 6 companies to come out and give me an estimate. Two never returned my calls, one scheduled an appointment and never showed up. Two others seemed to be good companies but their estimates came in way out of our budget. Those companies adjusted their prices to a closer range to what we were looking for but even so I was never able to actually visualize a good conceptual design. Joseph and Ryan from Western Outdoor Design and Build were a pleasure to work with. They listened to our ideas and expounded on them providing us with a design we really loved. They were professional, flexible and understood our needs and wants. I am excited to break ground and will provide further review when our project is done. read more

We contracted with Western Pavers for a backyard renovation. We had a swimming pool & jacuzzi that we rarely used and we wanted something that would allow for more space and room for entertaining. We worked with the sales guy Jerry and received an initial quote. We went through a back & forth design process which included plan changes, design changes, etc. and ended up with a really great design. They used a CAD design process that helped us to better see the finished product & provided architectural blueprints for each phase of the project. We had the pool & jacuzzi removed by a separate contractor and Western Pavers worked with us on timing of completion so that they could start the renovation without too much time in between. We decided to do pavers, a large barbecue/outdoor kitchen, fire pit, artificial turf & planters. We also added low voltage lighting for the plants, under counter lighting for the BBQ and fire pit. Brian, our Project Manager was fantastic. He was an excellent communicator (very responsive with texts/calls), offered his suggestions and ideas, and helped us achieve the best outcome. He managed the permits, the coordination of all subs, the delivery of materials etc. Chino, the work crew lead, was also easy to work with & a good communicator. They have a great crew and always found a way to satisfy our requests. They were focused on making us happy with the finished product and did a great job of it. We also decided to use Western Pavers to partially renovate our front hardscaping. They removed the concrete front porch, courtyard, walkway and flagstone ribbon on our driveway and replaced it all with pavers. They were careful not to damage our existing stone or front door. It was a beautiful way to update and freshen up the look of the house. We were uncomfortable with the initial payment schedule that they proposed, which required 85% of the total contract payments to be paid at the start of the paver installation. While there was a lot of work completed up to this point, we were uncomfortable paying that much upfront. After considerable negotiation, we agreed upon a reasonable payment schedule. We were very happy with the finished product and would highly recommend Western Pavers for your landscaping and hard-scaping needs. They were not the cheapest option, but well worth it. A couple of months after our pavers were installed, a section near the edge of our property separated from the rest of the pavers. It wasn't the kind of thing you could just fill in with sand. We called Western Pavers and they sent out "Chilo", who was the foreman on our job. He looked it over and told us that the entire section needed to be redone. They thought they had put a deep enough foundation in, but apparently not. With all the rain San Diego had this winter, I'm sure that contributed to the issue as well. The next day, Chilo brought out a worker and the worker are pulled up all the old pavers. He then proceeded to dig a deeper foundation, filled it with concrete and also created a low concrete retaining wall by the fence. I was very impressed with the amount of dirt that was dug up just for this section that was maybe 4' x 4'. We were amazed at the quality of the work. You could not tell that there had been a separation. The lines were perfectly straight and were the same width as the rest of the pavers. The cleanup was great. Unless you knew, one could not tell that we had the separation. It's good to know that Western Pavers stands by their warranty. We were not charged anything and they did the repair in a really timely fashion. In fact, they would've started earlier except for the rain. I am very confident that we will not have this problem again. read more

My brother had used Western Pavers a few years ago and loved their work. We called them for our backyard project and boy are we glad we did. I worked with Louis on the design and sale of the project. He came out three times before worked started and was very thorough. Western Pavers deal with Belgard pavers (among others) and there is a wide selection. Louis walked me though ideas and budgets. When work started I worked with Clint and Ramiro. Both were incredibly responsive and the crew worked incredibly hard during this very hot summer. I never heard cross words and they seemed to know each other and have worked together before. I love the work. I completely changed not only how my house looks - but how I feel about my place. When I walk up I have a sense of pride and joy. I also feel that this was a great value. Our process began well with our Western Pavers salesman, who was very informative and who worked to keep us within our budget. Our goal was to replace our flagstone patio with pavers, erect a new patio cover, install new grass, and refresh our hillside landscape. The problems began early in the project planning process. The 3D rendering we received didn't reflect the vision we had discussed, and our project plans were incomplete. We never received a new 3D rendering, nor did the salesman show up for our first meeting/project walk-through with our project manager to ensure that all details were properly conveyed. We did have a productive first meeting with our project manager, who was friendly and knowledgeable. Although our communication with the project manager was positive during the first half of the project, we never received a project calendar or planning timeline. Everything was informally communicated and rather off-the-cuff. Despite the informality, the project team was respectful and worked very hard to complete our project. The project manager accomplished our hardscape vision for our new patio and retaining wall quickly and with only a few minor issues which were quickly resolved. We felt then and still do that the quality of hardscape work was excellent - it is clear that Western's core competency is paver installation! As we moved into the softscape phase, the project started to go off the rails. Prior to installing and planting grass and flowers, we received no planting or irrigation plans. The plants and grass just showed up one day, and they proceeded to install them based upon phoned-in instructions from the Western Pavers main office. We had chosen the plants shortly after signing our contract, but were not consulted on the planting design or layout. They also proceeded to install sprinklers when we had specifically contracted for drip irrigation. Prior to planting, they did a poor job of grading and prepping the hill, leaving us with plants poorly situated in rough dirt with the wrong type of irrigation system, leading to a massive weed issue within a few weeks. We met with the project manager and expressed our concerns. He was polite and receptive to our feedback and acknowledged that they had not installed the irrigation type specified in the contract; however, he was not empowered to conduct further rework and left us unsatisfied as to a corrective plan. At about this time, we were notified that our Alumawood patio cover was delayed because of shipping and productions problems. Although this was beyond Western Pavers' control, the manner of communicating with us at this point was poor. The work crew cleared up their tools and supplies, and departed without notification. We received very little communication from the project manager for the next several months, despite the issues with the softscape and the incomplete patio cover. Essentially, we felt "ghosted" at this point. Finally, we felt forced to contact corporate for resolution. We spoke to the head of production, who arranged for an on-site meeting with the plant designer. She was obviously taken aback at the state of the hillside and immediately created a corrective plan for the irrigation, replacing the sprinklers with the contracted-for drip system and thoroughly mulching the hill to suppress weeds. However, they were not willing to relocate plants or fundamentally change the layout, which we never had input on. Ultimately, we paid $12,000 for a softscape that our own gardener could have completed for half the cost and accomplished a design that met our vision without the hassle. Despite the major rework required on our hillside, we never received a follow-up phone call from the Director of Production or our salesman asking us for feedback. And our project manager never delivered several minor items we had been promised: an extra stone for our retaining wall and a timer for our hillside lighting systems, despite multiple verbal promises to deliver these items. We were also promised a warranty package within a few weeks of issuing Western our final payment and never received it. When we called to follow-up, we were told that we had to sign off on a certificate of completion before we received our warranty package, a fact that had never previously been conveyed to us. We did receive our warranty package promptly after our phone call, but at that point, most of the relatively brief softscape warranties had already expired. Although we understand we were not one of their bigger projects, we expected a better process and outcome from Western. If you would like to work with a process-oriented company that provides you with a detailed project calendar and communicates clearly, do not hire this company. If you want a company that knows hardscape, they will do a good job with your paver project, but to us, they did not demonstrate competence in softscape design or execution. read more

Jerry, our sales representative sold us on Western Pavers and this is why... He visited us three times before we made a decision to work with Western Pavers. He took all the yard measurements, listened to our design ideas (as well as provide advice/best practices) and was able to sit down right then and there on the 2nd visit and calculate out the costs for everything - from the pavers, to the cement demo, to the trucks to haul off dirt/cement, to the portable potty. He was confident, experienced, and matter-of-fact. He gave us the answers we have been looking for to finally move forward and feel confident in our big-spend decision. The construction contract was very detailed and assuring! It broke down the costs for all the work so it was easy to understand and we knew what we were paying for in our agreement. 3. The timeline for our project start date was 6-8 weeks and they were able to start right on the 6th week. Jerry came with the Project Manager, Victor to do the walk-though and talk us through the process for all the work. To our excitement - they were able to start work the very next day. 4. The entire project took less than 2 weeks (unbelievable!). Erik, Jaime and the other young men who did all the work were on time every day at 7am and worked extremely hard until 3:30 every day. They were polite, extremely hard working and did great work. If I had any questions they always took the time to explain the process and what they were doing - all while providing a timeline to completion. Victor did an amazing job getting all the pavers and materials here exactly when needed as well as getting everything hauled away to the dump. I could go on and on about Western Pavers. Before doing this project we had hired helpers to do minor "fixes" to our yard. It turned out a lot of it was a waste of money because it was done wrong and had to be corrected (i.e. drainage). Western Pavers did an exceptional job on our backyard, side yard and front yard. It was a major project and we couldn't be more happy. We've even been told our home gives model home vibes! Dustin was so patient and a delight to work with. I believe we met with him about 4 times to figure out exactly what we wanted. He was so gracious and the design was remarkable. Jesus and Victor during the process were incredible. I complimented frequently how great the workers were who were doing the project. They were prompt, friendly and professional. This is soley a 5 star review of our Project Manager Brian Vilte. He did a fantastic job of communicating and coordinating with us once the project had started. We did a full backyard remodel and it took over a year from demo to complete. It was a long process with the normal ups and downs with construction but Brian made sure we were satified every step of the way and cmmunicated daily what the plan was. As far as recommending Western Pavers we had major issues up front with engineering. We signed a contract in September 2021 and they didnt even demo until September 2022 with permit delays all associated to engineer issues. By the time they finally had the engineering completed it came back with a support post infront of a window. They apologized but it cause more delays firing that engineering firm and hiring another. There was no one at the company who owned that process either. It went from Sales to PM but I was stuck in the middle. Eventually I was dealing with the field ops manager. After dealing with all of the delays the crews they had working on the house from building a deck/outdoor liviing room, bar/bbq, pavers and landscaping did a great job focused on quality. If they fix their engineering issues I would recommend folks use them going forward and request Brian as your Project Manager! read more

After repeated attempts to get my. Spa bypass corrected, as every time there are Santa Ana winds the bypass from my spa to my pool plugs up with leaves and such since WP decided to cheap out and only run (2) small pipes from the spa to the pool which makes my spa overflow and have salt water pool under my paver deck around the spa. This is causing the grout to crack and fall out. I also contacted them because the auto- fill to the pool leaks like a sieve while my pool pump is running and they also said they were going to clean the salt stained paver in the area from my pool to the exit of my front gate because as the drainage grade is determined that same salt water has etched the paver fir approximately 40'. They have never properly repaired any of these problems and now I am compelled to sue them in superior court. Please, for all you will do. STAY AWAY FROM WESTERN PAVERS. They go above and beyond to avoid doing the right thing for they're customers. read more
