We recently bought our home knowing we wanted to have the backyard redone. It was covered in dyed mulch which was a complete nightmare. When we started looking for vendors, we had several companies come out and got a variety of answers of what was possible or not, and also how long the process would take. I am posting this update as a severe safety warning to anyone considering Installing Direct. Since my initial review, a catastrophic and life-threatening incident has occurred. The fire pit installed by this company exploded into my girlfriend's face. We had an independent professional company come out to inspect the unit and the gas line. Their findings were shocking: the gas connection was completely loose. This negligence allowed gas to build up inside the fire pit structure, which caused it to explode upon ignition. Because of the physical injuries sustained and the absolute gross negligence regarding a gas installation, we are now taking this company to litigation. If you value the safety of your home and your family, stay far away from this business. A "loose connection" on a gas line is not just a mistake--it is a deadly hazard. We are currently in the process of legal action to hold them accountable for the damage and trauma they have caused. Zero stars. Avoid at all costs. read more

This is the second project that I have used Install It Direct and both times it left me satisfied. I was very budget conscious and IID was by far the lowest price option and did not use the standard "Everything cost more" excuse that most companies use these days. I will admit that I am not the easiest to deal with as I am very Type A which can lead to micromanagement, however, Troy was AWESOME in dealing with my constant updates and requests. Very transparent, honest and pleasant. If your expectations are for your project to go 100% smooth then you will have a very tough time finding a company to do your work. Something will, and always does, go wrong whether it is a mistake, delay or something. But I can tell you this....Troy and team never once made any excuses, they owned up to the issues and fixed it. Their communication is top notch which is the most important thing. My backyard is phenomenal and the quality work performed was great! Very happy with the work and will use them again when I do my front yard next year! The estimator told me he would contact me with his proposal after he completed his estimates. Never heard back from him. He either ghosted me or was so bad at estimating that he just gave up. No response. No call back. So unprofessional. In response to Jonathan's reply noted below: Install-It-Direct's representative, Rich Cuban, came to my property on 8/23/24 and again on 8/27/24 to discuss scope of work with me. Great team to work with! Extremely pleased with the quality of work and the timeframe of completion (under 2wks). I also want to highlight the team members - Bill, Patrick, Lucas, and Casper - they were all easy to talk to and seemed to really care to do a great job for their clients. If their managers read this, I would advocate for them to be promoted and/or get raises! Our backyard still looked incredible after the storm so it's a testament to their quality of work! Of note, the cracked concrete and old IKEA tiles are the sections we didn't change since we didn't have the budget haha. For us, we had a lot of input on what we wanted installed and where, so I think it made for better teamwork and we were really happy with the end result. What was done: -- added turf with wavy perimeter -- decomposed granite with rocks and plants to create zen area by pepper tree -- installed plants all along perimeter -- added new mulch -- extended a portion of concrete walkway and retaining wall -- added drip irrigation and adjusted drainage -- added post for market/string lights Budget: IID was very understanding of our budget and worked with us to create a project that we could afford. I am a pretty strict, frugal person so this is saying a lot! Designer: Bill It was a pleasure working with Bill to design the backyard. He would be just as excited about each revision as we were. He did a wonderful job adding the curves we wanted into the turf and seamlessly blending it in with the DG. We wanted to pick our own plants and decorative rocks and Bill was 100% on board. It was super fun picking plants and rocks together at the nurseries/KRC rock. Bill was always very positive and responsive despite our constant questions and revisions. Project Manager: Patrick Patrick was very on top of the project. As with any big project, things might get missed or something might not come out how you imagined the first time. However, Patrick was quick to respond to our concerns. I did not need to ask Patrick more than once to address something. For instance, they originally installed a circular ring irrigation device to water the plants on the DG. However, it was watering too wide of a surface area and leaving prolonged wet spots. So we asked about it and within a day or so, they switched them all to drip irrigation and problem solved. We asked if they could stucco more of the wall - the next day, it was done. We reminded them of the conduit line - next day, it was done. It was incredible how responsive this team was. Installation Team: Lucas and Casper These guys are MVPs! We had our renovation in July so it was 80s every single day. These men worked endlessly to set up our backyard in record time. They were always super energetic and polite. They were also respectful and kept the area clean. They were responsive to our questions/concerns. I originally brought up the irrigation issue to Lucas and he immediately told Patrick. I asked if they could use a potting mix I wanted for the larger plants and they re-arranged their work to plant the next day so my husband and I could bring the potting mix. I also appreciated their quality of work. I've had several friends comment on how well Lucas blended the seams of the turf so that it's barely noticeable. I just had roughly 2000 square feet of turf installed at my residence by Install-It-Direct, and could not be more pleased by their professionalism and attention to detail from their initial estimate and throughout the entire installation process. Nate talked me out of using pavers, which would have been more expensive than turf, which speaks very much for their honesty and doing right by the customer. He provided me pluses and minuses of both options (turf vs. pavers) and walked me to two houses in the neighborhood using turf, giving contrasts and comparisons with those turf instances and their product, really helping with my decision. So it's been about 5 years since we had this company landscape our front yard. We originally did this to save water, maintenance and have less time spent in yard work. Now I spend about 3 hours a week pulling weeds. And not just any weeds, tiny weeds that are a pain in the a$$. Imagine pulling grass by hand. I would've been better off with grass I just mow. The yard looks terrible and I can't pull up all the weeds because of how tiny and fragile they are. They just break apart and I can't get the root. A gopher also dug right thru the artificial turf leaving dirt and rocks everywhere. $8k for this?? It was all completed in about an 8 week time frame and that included having to get HOA approval and a slight delay to get more material. The price was fair, and from the first contact this company represented a very professional organization. The sales person Nate was very responsive and turned around the initial proposal, and all follow up questions very timely. Caleb, the project manager was on site nearly every day to check on his team. I highly recommend them and I will work with them when I'm ready to rehab our back yard too. Nate was my contact throughout the entire process. I found Instlall-It-Direct on Yelp and was a bit skeptical since there are a lot of companies out there who may over charge or say they will do the work but not deliver. I had a couple of other bids but I felt the personal touch from Nate and a phone call from the business owner really sold me. I am glad I went with them! Like they say, they aren't the cheapest but they also aren't the most expensive. I am still waiting on my timer for my lights but it's understandable that there are delays with production and supply. Nate spent a lot of time helping me design the backyard that I wanted. He was extremely patient and I never felt rushed. He also never made me feel like I had to choose them either. I truly appreciate the time Nate spent explaining things to me and helping me make decisions on where to put plants etc. They have good hard working people who work on the project. They were always respectful and even helped me put up chicken wire on my fence so my dogs don't get out. Caleb always reached out to me if he needed anything. I recommended them to my neighbor and they are also using them. I just wanted to say they have very good workers. My small dog got out and since the workers always see my dogs out in the yard, they were very kind and ran my doorbell to tell me one of my dogs escaped and brought him back. BUYER BEWARE!!! The customer service was horrible after the project was over and they had my money. There were lots of confusing contract clauses and language concerning the expenses (I've been a lawyer for 30 years, so I read contracts). We went through several iterations of the contract before we settled on one, that is also a bit out of the ordinary. Then, the customer service was great in the beginning when they wanted the business and as long as I owed them money. The project was over $20K. They were quick and responsive via text and email. But after the project was completed, the sales guy Bill and the new project manager both ignored me initially. I asked if they would haul away all the extra bricks and trash they left behind in my backyard. I finally paid someone else to haul it to the dump after Install-It-Direct's repeated promises to haul it away went unfulfilled. More detail: The project was to do a paver sidewalk and put stone on a wall that was about 100 ft long, 2 ft high. The paver sidewalk was terrific (hence the 2 stars rather than 1). However, I learned months later that they broke sprinkler lines under the paver sidewalk when my landscaper turned them on. Intall-It-Direct apparently did not test them before they left. The stone wall was just ok, pieces have already fallen off, and some of their stone selection does not look right. When they were done, they left a bunch of extra stone behind on a trashy looking pallet because they were going to give me a price to put the stone on some other walls in my backyard. Then the sales guy just stopped responding and never gave me the promised estimate on the new job. I went with another contractor who used different stone and did much better work. But I still had all the brick and trash that Install-It-Direct left behind. I texted the project manager assigned to the project (the 2d one as the first project manager was replaced at the beginning of the project) to see if he would haul it away since it was never used. He has never responded. I then texted the sales guy who never gave me the estimate despite my request that he ignored. Over the next 6 months, he repeatedly promised to haul it away. He actually gave me at least 4 promised times by which he would haul it away. Each time, the date would pass, he did not haul it away, and I would hear nothing from him. Each time I'd have to follow up to find out why he did not haul it away as promised. He'd give me some excuse and promise to get it done by a new date. The last time, he said it was the project manager's responsibility but said he'd talk with the owner the next week. Really??? After his repeated failed promises, I finally just paid someone else to haul it away. I will never use them again. Their conduct is unprofessional and I would never recommend them. To the contrary, I'd warn anyone who asks about the above experience. *Edit: Their reply below includes statements that are absolutely false, which is further frustrating and why I reduced the review to 1 star. Bill the sales guy did give me an estimate to put the extra stone on the fireplace but then he immediately rescinded it because he said he measured it wrong and his guys recommended different stone (that's the reason we went with different stone). Not hearing from him, I sent him a text message on 3/12/23 as follows: "Just following up to see if you still want to give a proposal on the fireplace." I decided to go with another contractor because he never responded and never gave me the promised estimate. Not hearing from the Bill the sales guy, I sent the project manager a text on 6/19/23 asking him if he could remove the unused stone and trash. He has never responded. So I re-engaged Bill to ask him to remove the stone/trash. I have the text messages from June through September showing his repeated promises to haul away the stone/trash by dates certain and then me repeatedly saying "Any progress?" after the dates passed. So after several months of following up with Bill to find out why he did not show up multiple times when he said he would, and then when he said it was the project manager's responsibility (who never responded to my request), I gave up on them. Suffice it to say, while I was happy and satisfied with the project when it was finished, the customer service was non-existent a few weeks after the project was finished. I would bet that all the 5-star reviews they have are done right after the project was finished. And, it's interesting that they spent more time to review their file and write their response on Yelp than they did addressing the problem. There customer service never contacted me to address the problem. read more

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY: Run, don't walk away from this absolute nightmare of a company. I've delt with roofers, plumbers, electricians, solar installation companies, etc. and never had issues with like what I've dealt with here. Just to be clear: what you're actually paying for is a severely underpaid subcontractor and a series of smarmy middlemen. (Just read some of their responses to negative reviews if you want to get a taste of what you're signing up for if you use this company.) I had a very straightforward 500 sq ft patio installation and went with this company due to their good reviews, good design salesman, and how quickly they could get the job done. As soon as I signed the initial contract, they hit me with a $1,500 change order to increase a 32 ft walkway by 1 foot (should have been $3-400) and I had to go back and forth and threaten to cancel the job before they backed off. They reassured me that the design manager and PM would be present during each day of the job and deal directly with the subcontracted installation crew; what actually happened was the PM would only show up for like 5 minutes each day and didn't actually seem do anything to check on the quality of the install. They pretended like it was a job well done and asked for final payment until I called them out on their initial install which essentially looked like an amateur's first DIY job: uneven paver field with humps and dips, borders without cuts and full of dips and waves like they didn't use a string line, many pavers without joint sand, and a significant portion of the paver field was graded towards the house. To make matters worse, after they thought the job was done, they left about 20 wheelbarrows of gravel base on the street in front of a neighbor's trailer because the subcontractor wanted to charge them extra money to move it off the street. I had to do come home and move the gravel by myself in the dark to avoid causing extra issues with neighbors. They also ignored our previously agreed-upon plan to install access to a sewer cleanout (didn't tell me, I had to call them out on it), left a dirty worksite, blew polymeric sand everywhere using a leaf blower instead of a broom, etc. I had to cancel checks, get on calls with the company's founder, send countless texts detailing what was done incorrectly with pictures and video evidence performing water tests and using my own bubble levels and STILL had them try to gaslight me about what we had agreed upon in terms of the grade of the paver field (towards an existing drain in the lawn), whether the pavers field was going towards house in some parts, etc. It took 2.5 weeks to for them to complete the 3-day job and, to be fair, they were able to correct worst of the initial installation issues (not because they wanted to, but because I called them out on it using bubble levels and water tests). However, there are still aesthetic issues (chipped pavers, pavers without joint sand, and a few elevated pavers in a few places) but I was so tired of dealing with the company that it was clear that the installation crew was not capable of doing it properly. If you do have the unfortunate luck to have to deal with this company, get every single minute detail in writing because they will agree to things in person but then the next day say the exact opposite in text. Be prepared to need to micromanage every single component of the project to double check that you're not being screwed over. Be prepared to spend countless hours going back and forth with various middlemen to get them to come back and correct anything. If you don't have a construction background and/or are not comfortable confronting passive aggressive and gaslighting men about the quality of their work, then I highly recommend avoiding this company and find one that has their own crews that take pride in the quality of their work. read more
