BEWARE! This is the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. Don't be fooled by their marketing. I run a hotel and needed pavers installed in my courtyard. I stressed that time and budget was the deciding factor in choosing a company. I had to keep my business open and it was getting close to summer. Chris and Dennis came out 3 times to measure, tried to match another company's quote, said they would take a final measurement by text before starting and still ended up 1500 sq ft off, which they charged me $17,000 in change orders after they did the demo already. They also didn't know or check the county codes for pavers on a commercial property which they admitted and would have cost me more liability. The worst part is they implied they could do the job in 2 weeks and it took over 5. They said there was more to dig up but with the small crew they had, there was no way they could have finished even if all conditions were simple for them. This cost me to lose revenue from cancellations, bad reviews, and future group bookings. They did not take any safety precautions for the guests when cutting the pavers and caused massive dust to fly into the guests' rooms and clog my ac units. When I complained about this, they said they can't cut it elsewhere as it would slow the project even further. I have never felt this powerless working with a company, I couldn't have them stop because it would cause more harm to my business and I had to agree to all their change orders just so they can finish. They know you have no choice. Without reading their contract, I realized how all of these things can happen, which basically says that they are not responsible for the accuracy of their quote, if they know the county codes or not, or anything else. So, they can say and imply anything but if you signed the contract, then they are not liable for anything. After they finally finished the job, I complained to the company because I still owed them a balance. They came with their CEO Tim and tried to offer a small discount which I rejected because it did not balance the cost of the problems they caused. They said, the job looks great! What's the problem? Well, the job is supposed to be good, that's what I'm paying for. The manager Dennis even argued, what if they just dig out the extra work of the balance and why didn't I start the job a couple months sooner when there were less customers at the hotel, which was very inappropriate of him to say. If I could have you dig out everything and give me a refund, I would be happy to do it. But I paid the balance and was done. If anyone else goes through this situation and know you have been wronged by time or change orders from this company, you can file a complaint with the State contractor's license board https://www.cslb.ca.gov/Consumers/Filing_A_Complaint/ and let them decide how to help you. read more

Worked with Ron Dombroski to redo the front yard that had been overdue for years. The land was uneven, there were really questionable work from the previous owners that seemed to have accumulated into a mess. Install-it-Direct was very friendly and worked with me to get the front yard into a simplistic design that fit my budget. The best part about this project was the relationship and conversations I had with Ron. I never felt like I was being taken advantage of and he made sure that design was good and worked with me to creatively save costs where it made sense. They are extremely professional and friendly. The most impressive thing about what they do comes all the way down to the quote. It is one of the best things I have ever seen and gave me confidence that this is a solid company to do great work. On project day - the crew did a phenomenal job. The leveled everything - demo'd some concrete and cleared out a lot of debris and junk. They even finished one day earlier than predicted. I have nothing but great things to say about Install-It direct. We live near mission bay and our backyard was a concrete slab previous owners used for a boat or RV port. We needed turf and pavers to make a yard for our two big dogs and for our toddler to play in. Our estimator Bill was very responsive. From first contact to estimate it was less than a week, and then the work was scheduled to begin within a week of that. Our project manager Patrick and his crew were amazing. Great communication and they finished the job in five days. What was more amazing was the price. Their competitors were slow to respond and quoted 1.5-2x what we ended up paying. He's super knowledgable, and during the whole project, he and the project lead, Nicholas, who was in charge of the worker schedules, were both always proactive and easy to work with. Update: The yelp review got their attention! They claimed that they called which is not true (except for this morning before 8am which is days after they were supposed to be here), they claimed that they left a voice mail, which is not true. They offered a different sales rep now and as the review below states no thanks at this point in time. I have my text exchange with them documented as well. They had no clue where their rep was or if he called me. I also did not call out their rep by name. They have no class and don't take responsibility. Own your mistake and learn from them and the business will come to you. Blame customers and well read other reviews. -----original--- I wish I got to comment on how great of a job these guys have done on my 80-100K+ backyard renovation. I had an appointment with them, they did not show-up and did not call. I called they had no idea what was going on so we rescheduled. Think they called or showed up for the next appointment? No. I had to readjust my schedule twice to accommodate these guys and to not even get a call to say that we are late or need to reschedule is ridiculous. We've used IID for major back and front yard landscaping projects at 2 different homes over the last several years. The most recent project just finished and we are extremely happy with the result. The design consultant and project manager were knowledgeable in helping us plan the project and were responsive during the entire job (even responding to our questions at off hours). Although the project ended up taking a bit longer than expected (3 weeks instead of 1), the overall cost was significantly lower than the other 2 estimates we collected and the quality of work is superb. I would give 0 stars to the project designer they sent to my house the first time (yes the first time). he was SO nice and quoted me for UNDER my budget (when does that ever happen in landscaping). then he comes around 2 weeks later (even though he had promised a quote in 24 hours) with almost double what he promised. I just copied and pasted this review I wrote on Google two years ago to reach a bigger audience. The one star is for the subcontractor they hired to do the paver. From the beginning all the appointments with the so-called project manager were cancelled/rescheduled due to excuses from traffic, unexpected out of town relatives visiting, and sickness. Since we liked her design, we patiently worked with her. It took about two months from when she came to discuss the project and do the measurements of our yard in July 2018 to when we finally saw the 3D design and signed the contract at IID office in September 2018. The job stared on November 26. The PM said she'd be at our property everyday, but the fact is the crew foreman only saw her twice during the 10 working days. She promised me the foreman, herself and I would have a walkthrough after the yard was done. That didn't happen. We discovered two dented pavers after the sloppy sealer job was done and contacted the PM. They promised to reseal the paver and seating walls after the flawed pavers were replaced and the blotted pavers caused by the poor sealer job were cleaned. The PM assured me that was done, but we saw loose joint sand on the paver indicating the paver was not sealed. I texted her what we found out and told her I am tired of dealing with IDD. Then I got a call from the owner, who supposedly came to reseal the paver, saying he did some touch ups. It's a stretch to call touch ups resealing. This just happened yesterday. Yes, it's 2019 and I am still dealing with IID. Also the porta potty was left on our driveway for almost a week after the crew was done and the delivery pallets and bag for materials were left there for almost two weeks. They were removed after I showed my concern to the PM many times then to the customer relationships rep. The PM mentioned a few times she'd buy me a small gift for being patient with her and would send me all the before and after photos she took. I bet I'd never hear from her like the other reviewer. read more

Absolutely the BEST contractors we've ever worked with. The proposal process was excellent,(with Dennis) they worked with us to find a product that matched our style and budget. The pricing was competive and comparable to most of the others, except one that was twice as high, we got 4 bids for this job. They had everything in stock and ready to go before starting, installers (Antonio ) were here first thing in the morning and worked hard all day long and left the place cleaned-up at the end of each day. The project manager (Aaron) was on-site to check on the project regularly and was easy to reach by phone with questions AND when all was said and done there were no hidden charges or delay and it looked beautiful! I seriously have not had such a positive experience with a contractor before. Update 12/23/2020: The business owner, Tim Thomas, followed up with our HOA once this review was posted and issued a return of our deposit funds. The check arrived promptly and has now cleared the bank. Our HOA is no longer out funds due to this situation. Modifying this to a 2-star review. The following was posted by our HOA manager and I would like reiterate the same... Buyer beware! This company defrauded our HOA! We solicited proposals from 3 companies for installation of synthetic turf in a front landscape. Steve Brown, Install-it-Direct representative, visited the property and met with our Board Member for at least an hour and a half, viewing the property and location of the installation prior to providing a proposal. His proposal came in the lowest and they were hired for the job. Install-it-Direct requested a deposit of 10% of the contract price, but refused to provide an invoice for the deposit prior to payment. They informed us that they would send the invoice AFTER payment was made. The invoice is required to maintain proper corporate books. They informed us that they could not schedule our project until deposit was paid. We reluctantly paid the deposit and did not receive an invoice or receipt afterward until specifically requested multiple times. Scheduling was a whole other nightmare. We were informed that someone else would reach out to us to schedule the job. It took over 2 weeks to get the job scheduled. From there, it was a 2 month wait to have the job actually done. On installation day, materials were delivered curbside and all was ready, when I received a call from Steve letting me know that his installation crew was unable to perform the job for the contracted price due to the landscape being on a slope. Steve informed us that the crew would need to hand-compact the base rather than use machinery, and this would increase the labor cost by $3,000...on a job that was bid at $7,800 total! This suddenly brought the price above all other quotes we received. Steve mentioned that we needed to make a decision very quickly since the materials were at the curb and if anything were to be stolen, we would be responsible for the cost! Unbelievable! Decisions like this for an HOA cannot be made on a whim, as we are bound by law to have a public meeting for the Board. I explained to Steve that we had a contracted agreement for the work to be done and that they should honor the price they quoted. Since he had clearly seen the property before bidding, I asked him how the slope of the property suddenly increased the cost so dramatically. He informed me that he did not have the installer view the property prior to creating the bid, but instead created the bid based off a similar job with similar topography. This whole experience has felt like a "bait and switch", not to mention a huge waste of months of our time waiting for the job that never happened! The Board opted not to move forward with the job and we requested return of our deposit funds. Steve let us know that accounting would be returning our deposit within a couple of weeks. He was deeply concerned that we would leave a bad review for the company based on our experience. I informed him that we would part ways without prejudice if the deposit was returned by November 30, 2020. Today is December 12, 2020. It has been 45 days since we requested return of our deposit and we still have not received our $765. The company unilaterally cancelled our contract, and is holding our deposit hostage. Attempts to call the company for deposit return have been futile. Again...buyer beware! We met various individual contractors and designers before we went with Install-it-Direct. The idea of having a Designer and Contractor under the same Team made it an easy one stop shop. Thomas and Frank handled our project very well and smoothly and was very responsive to our requests while the project was in motion. The whole backyard restoration took less than ~4 weeks and we were very happy with the results! Towards the end of the project there were some flaws that were overlooked so both Thomas and Frank resolved it themselves. I had high hopes for this company. Up until they started work everything was great. The job for our back yard was to take 2 weeks. It took 6 weeks and constant complaining to complete the work. The foreman got pulled off the job and the rest of the crew took long breaks and were basically unsupervised. They did a nice job with the pavers and artificial turf, eventually. They did make quite a mess, there is paver dust everywhere and I will have to touch up stucco and paint that they messed up. The softscape part of the job has been a nightmare. Plants got delivered and not installed for almost two weeks. They even planted one that was dead. Two beautiful trees will not make it because they did not water them while they sat it the street. Drip irrigation has been a nightmare. It took 3 weeks and it's still not right. I'm left to pay to get the irrigation done properly with the right materials. 1 tree and six plants need to be replanted as they were not done properly. Stucco and paint needs touch up, a sprinkler line in the front was broken during the turf installation and still needs to be repaired. I gave them 2 stars because I believe for paving and artificial turf, they can do good work. I would give them 0 stars for landscaping. read more

We just finished getting our backyard paved from Install-It-Direct and I am not exaggerating when I say that they are hands down the most fair-priced, transparent, communicative, efficient, responsive and customer service-oriented company we have ever had the pleasure of working with. Our moderate size yard was a mixture of cracked Spanish tiles, a lot of tree roots, and a huge amount of dirt and rocks, and they transformed it into a beautiful space that we can enjoy for years to come. From the designer Steve who gave us an esthetically-pleasing, cost effective design that met all of our needs, Operations Manager Jonathan who navigated all the logistics of getting the project started and progressing in a timely manner, Project Manager Patrick who was here from the beginning to the very end overseeing that the work was going right and responding to any of our concerns, as well as unforeseen issues that can rise after excavation, Foreman Antonio and his crew Leandro and later Danny and even the Owners- everyone from this stellar company was involved to make our project as stress free as much as possible, even with the unprecedented SoCal rain we had after demolition. Project Manger Patrick communicated with us almost everyday during the crazy weeklong rain to give us updates on when Foreman Antonio, Leandro and Danny can come back. Antonio and Leandro came by to make sure the ground was protected with plastic sheeting and returned back to work as soon as the ground was dried enough. These men are highly skilled and not only care that you get the best looking pavers, but also that you have proper drainage (which is paramount in importance in paver installation I'm told). They are punctual,efficient, courteous and make sure to leave your property cleaned up as much as possible at the end of each work day, even though we didn't even request it. Project Manager is someone who has my utmost respect. He truly cares about his customers and I never felt that I was bothering him with any questions. Often times, he addressed concerns even before we asked. He was at our house almost everyday from the start to the very end to make sure we were happy with the work. He is trustworthy, conscientious and very amiable. Any concerns we had were promptly addressed and he made sure to find solutions, including when Foreman Antonio, Leandro and Danny discovered an unexpected huge pipe underground from my neighbor's side of the property. They came up with a beautiful solution by making the area look like a plant stand that worked for us. You know how some companies no longer respond in a timely manner after the contract is signed or when the check is cashed? Heck, some don't even bother texting you back until hours later because they got paid lol. That's the opposite of Install-It-Direct. Designer Steve, Project Manager Patrick and Operations Manager Jonathan always responded right away. We never felt ignored or forgotten throughout the project. After the pavers were done, we asked for replacement for a few flawed looking pavers which we didn't see until the pavers were dried. We thought once the last check was checked and the project was deemed completed, we're probably not going to hear back from them for a while, but Project Manager Patrick proved us wrong! He responded right away to my text and immediately let Operations Manager Jonathan know to have Foreman Antonio come back to fix it. During San Diego's heavy winter rains this year our backyard started flooding, which eventually pooled next to our refurbished garage and began seeping in. We called around for quotes, and Brandon at Install-it-Direct was able to offer the most comprehensive scope of work for the most reasonable price. The quote was clear and easy to understand and he was easy to communicate with as a point person throughout the project. The team excavated our existing cement patio, removed a terrible non-porous weed tarp the owner before us had put in and leveled the entire backyard. They put weather proofing on the side of our unit, installed french drains to bring any future water out to a well in the front yard, and then put in all new custom pavers (beautiful herringbone pattern) and 'dog turf'. We've been living with the finished product for a few weeks now and couldn't be happier. No more flooding or any water build up at all. We can walk outside barefoot and our dogs LOVE the fake grass - I'm not even sure they can tell it's fake. Brandon was even careful enough to consider the angle of grass blade for installation, something we'd have never though of. We've entertained and we get tons of compliments. The team that came out was quiet, considerate and friendly. They also got the work done really quickly, which was important to us (given the flooding). We will 100% use Install-it-Direct when we're ready for our next 'hard-scaping' project. They are a great choice for anyone who wants a beautiful outdoor space that respects the environment though low-water use design, and I can not recommend Brandon as your point person enough. I had turf installed by this company in 2017. I never wrote an initial review but the job turned out as expected at first. Fast forward three years and we started experiencing some large pockets/holes under the turf where the ground had settled. In other areas there were tree roots popping up and elevating the turf. I have three kids who run and play on the turf all the time. The holes and roots caused a safety concern for me because I didn't want them tripping/twisting ankles. I emailed the company and had a back/forth conversation with Lidia. She initially told me, "Unfortunately, We do not have any salesperson or a crew that is current working in your area. Karen your sales rep has not been with us since 2017." Obviously that didn't make any sense to me as it seemed like I was being told they weren't going to help me with the repairs. I continued an email conversation with Lidia and she told me that the company only has a 2 year warranty on installs and will not fix the problem. She said she could set me up with a former installer and he could check it out. (I'm not quite sure why you would use a former installer instead of your current employees to repair your work, but...) On their website they have a part that lists numerous reasons why their company should be used. Reason 8 is, "They don't have an in-house repair & maintenance team to handle any issues that should occur AFTER your installation is complete. The true test of a company will be revealed once the project is complete and the money has been collected in full." I emailed that to Lidia and she responded that she wanted my phone number. I have spoken with numerous customer service representatives and this was by far one of the worst experiences I have had. Lidia was rude, condescending and dismissive. She was immediately exasperated and claimed that I was being aggressive. I don't know about aggressive, but definitely insisted that they needed to fix the job. Lidia tries to tell me that they haven't had anyone working in my area since 2017 and they are in the works of filling her spot. I asked Lidia if that meant they wouldn't install turf for new customers in my area and she admitted they still were accepting new jobs. (So new money is good but fixing old jobs is out of the question). Ultimately she tells me to send her photos of the grass and she will contact her boss to figure out what to do. A week goes by with no communication. I email Lidia and she tells me that Adrian will be at my house at 8 am on a Wednesday. I work nights so 8 am is way too early for me. Kind of irritating that I was told the date/time a former employee was going to come and check out the repair work needed. I told her 10 am was better and she agreed to that time. Adrian showed up on time and looked at the grass. He confirmed that the soil had settled causing the holes and the roots were popping up. He called Lidia who told him this wasn't covered under warrant and I was responsible for the cost. Adrian said it was going to cost $650 to fix the issue. I wasn't inclined to pay Install it Direct any more money so I told Adrian I would give him $400 to fix the problem. He agreed and showed up a few days later. He removed the turf, filled the soil, removed the roots and put the turf back down. The only problem was, he didn't align the seams together and there is a1/4" gap that is visible. Adrian said he would come back and fix the problem. Guess what, he has never returned. Numerous texts saying he was sorry and would be on a future date only to never show up. Surprisingly he isn't returning my calls/texts anymore. If you are looking to spend thousands of dollars on a project that will last 2 years, then by all means use this company. If you enjoy dealing with aloof customer service representatives who are condescending and dismissive of your issues, then use this company. If you are fine with people writing promises on their website and not keeping them, then use this company. If you want your job done right, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! ***A few days after writing this post, I received a call from Tim (one of the owners). Tim apologized for my experience, informed me that Lidia doesn't work with the company anymore and said he wanted to fix the seam in my grass. After a few scheduling issues, Rodrigo showed up on time and spent a few hours doing repair work and ultimately he was able to repair the seam for the most part. He also adjusted the bender board to eliminate the gap that had appeared between the turf/bender board after Adrian had put the turf down. At the end of the day, my turf is almost back to the way it was a few years ago when I initially had it installed. It's unfortunate that I had to go through all the nonsense to get my turf fixed, but Tim was very polite/professional and ultimately took care of my issues. I appreciate what he did for me and that's why I updated this post from 1 star to 3 stars. read more

We hired Install It Direct to do pavers in our driveway and a front yard re-do. From start to finish, they were amazing. Steve worked with us on the landscape design, including plant suggestions. He listened attentively to what we wanted and came up with a gorgeous design that is very low maintenance, like we wanted! The guys who did the work were amazing as well. Lalo and Edgar were diligent, respectful and worked so hard, even coming over the weekend to get the job done! Even with last minute changes, they were flexible and didn't skip a beat. We decided to have an address monument as part of the yard design. Steve suggested installing the address number on a boulder, looks very cool, but installation was a challenge. No problem, they got someone with experience and got it done. We got several quotes from a variety of large companies, smaller landscapers, and individuals and Install It Direct was at the middle-higher range. They were worth every penny because they took care of everything, Steve maintained excellent communication with us throughout the process, and we could not be happier with the finished product!! We are pleased to have the opportunity to write an A++ review for INSTALL-IT-DIRECT, and the outstanding project manager, Sam Muscariello, who managed our project. This was a comprehensive project including design, materials, irrigation, artificial turf, topsoil, mulch, gravel, mulch, lighting, and a myriad of native and other low water plants. When we look at the before and after pictures, we still have to blink twice, as it is hard to believe the amazing transformation. This is a cul-de-sac with only a few houses, and now we are the 'talk of the neighborhood' with everyone marveling at the transformation, how beautifully done it is, and some inspired to meet with the company for their own upgrades. They also saw for themselves how well organized it was, how the supplies were neatly staged in the driveway each day, how hard the install crew worked and how they completely cleaned up and reorganized every single night before leaving. They also saw how well the crew was managed by Sam, his positive leadership manner, and his genuine care for each phase of the project and for his crew. We hired Install-It-Direct to install artificial turf in our backyard. Troy Silva came, took measurements, and gave us a quote. He explained what our options were and what was included with the work. Once we decided to proceed, they started the job within a week. They brought some material the day before, and the remaining material arrived during the day of the job. The workers were all courteous, professional and efficient. Troy stopped by a few times during the 2 day job. Rufino, the site foreman, also was very attentive to our needs; whenever there was a question regarding the details, Rufino would make sure to ask us how we wanted specific areas to be addressed (example: slope here, or level is out? Where should the border run?) It's been a week now and we are ecstatic with the results of our back yard! It's looking awesome and inviting. He made certain the job was accomplished to our liking and standards. Bill created and re-created a computer mockup of the job so we could see how the backyard with pavers would look and then adjusted the design plan as needed. Juan and his team worked tirelessly from start to finish to get the job done in a timely manner. Everyone we had contact with during our paver project was polite and courteous. I wrote a review for this company before but was called by the owner and asked to take it down. After I addressed all my concerns with him, I felt kind of bad so I took my review down. It has been almost a year since then and I have to put my review back up because of the continued issues I am having with this company. I have to say this company does have an amazing employee- Brittney. She was VERY responsive, she answered all of my questions and really took the time to explain the process to me. She was amazing and even a year later was very helpful. This crew that did this job was HORRIBLE. They were drinking on the job even after I told the owner, and they would throw their beer cans in our trash can. They also left their trash all over our yard throughout the project and didn't clean it up even after they were done(see pictures) In addition to this, they dumped unused cement (see pictures) onto our dirt instead of properly disposing of it. We later had to pay to get this broken up and removed. One of the most upsetting things was we made it VERY clear to Brittney that we wanted our paving to be at a slope so that when it rained, the water could run off. When the crew started, it didn't look like they were grading it to a slope. We told the company and they assured us it was being graded. After the project was done, it is not graded whatsoever. All the water pools in sections on the paving after it rains. There was not ONE day the crew showed up on time. I was fortunate to be home during this project, so it wasn't a huge deal for us but I can imagine for people that have to leave for work, this would be very inconvenient . Fast forward a year later- the paving still looks good but a few pieces have come loose- one pavers on the steps and one cap of the retaining wall. I called Brittney and she was responsive and got someone to call me within a day. A woman from the company called me one moning at 9:00am and said "I am sending someone there at 10:00 today". I thought that was rude to tell me when someone is coming as opposed to scheduling but we really needed this done so I left work and rushed home. I told them to please call me 15 min ahead of time so I could lock up the dogs. They never showed. I called the company and no one answered. Fast forward to 6:00 pm that night.. our doorbell rings while we are eating dinner, the dogs start barking and wake up the baby.. it's someone from the company here to fix the paving.. 8 hours late! I have called the owner 2 times and he is not returning my calls. I have had several friends come over who are interested in getting paving done and I have strongly suggested they do not do business with this company because of their customer service and the crew that they assigned to us. read more

Just cannot say enough how happy we are with both our landscape designer who designed and bid on the job (Bill) and the team of guys who completed the work (Alan, Roman & team). The entire experience was terrific. I felt like we were treated with honesty and respect by Bill. He is a fantastic listener and really designed something that we wanted but couldn't envision ourselves. The crew... oh the crew, the incredible work ethic was something I've never seen by any contractors before. Long hours every day (even I was trying to tell them to go home!). They were so dedicated to doing beautiful and quality work. In terms of budget, Bill really came through with giving us something we'd love that was in our budget, without skimping on quality. Truly impressed with them and would definitely use/recommend them again - they really nailed it! read more

If you're looking for a turf installer and vendor that will go the extra mile, I highly recommend James Wilson and his team at Install-It-Direct. When getting quotes for our project, I really hoped theirs would be competitive since I found James to be personable and informative when he came by our house. Turns out his price was also better... woo hoo! When it came time for installation, everything went as promised. There was no interruption to our lifestyle. The team was hard working and answered any questions that popped up along the way. They did a walk through with us when they were finished, and James came by to do a final inspection as well. We love our new "grass." That was when he really went the extra mile to ask us about our additional plans and helped us get some information for the rest of our landscaping project. I really wanted to work with them. I liked Christian & he seemed to know what he was doing. But after 5 weeks of "tomorrow you'll get your design" & two trips to measure our yard, I finally gave up & are now looking for another landscape company for our yard remodel. I still have never seen a single sketch, rough draft or plan of any kind. And now he won't return my messages. I've contacted the company about it & nothing. Is this normal? I don't know. But if it's this hard to see a design, imagine how hard it is to get the work done. read more

They did a great job. Worked with us on design for our yard and it turned out just like we wanted. The crews did the demolition, turf installation and pavers and fire pit in just over a week.
