Exceptional selection and great customer service. A lovely place to wander around for inspiration whether or not you're sure what you want to buy; a few laps and you'll surely find something.

Pin cushion plant bought as 1 gallon 5 years ago. Love this plant

Love this pin cushion plant that we bought here 5 years ago as a 1 gallon. Such a beautiful addition to our landscape.

When we were redoing our backyard, we went to Andersons La Costa based on a referral from a neighbor and we're so glad we did! We were given exceptional guidance and information by Mark, the owner. He introduced us to some interesting plants that have transformed our garden to a very unique environment. He also gave us solid tips to take care of them. After a few months, I had some additional questions. I went down and spoke with Manny and he was so very informative. He really took the time to answer my questions and educate me. Great customer service!!! And beautiful plants!

    Alocasia varieties for gifts.

Super helpful and informative staff. They even took the time to transfer the alocasias I picked to some new pots. Thank you :)

I got the pot and rocks at the Nurseey. They always have a good selection of healthy plants, both for indoors and outdoors. I find this to be a very peaceful nursery to walk around in. They also have nice garden gifts. The outdoor fountain I got from them over 20 years ago still looks nice and still runs.

Hopefully this will get us through these last batch...

We have about 10 very large tropical milkweed plants and a handful of native narrow leaf milkweed planted throughout our front and back yard to attract Monarch butterflies every year. It's been a science experiment that my little one has enjoyed since she was 3 years old and this year was no different. She really enjoys looking for eggs and cats every day, watching them go through their lifecycle and taking care of them until they are ready to be released. After our first year of planting, we've never had an issue with our milk weed supply until this year. The season seemed to start late but we had more than ever. Our last dozen or so caterpillars ate through every single leaf we had so we were in somewhat of a panic. I called the nurseries around me that I know do not use pesticides on their plants and no one had any. I expanded the area and called Andersons and the gentleman who answered the phone said they had just got a shipment in so within a few hours, my daughter and I were there picking out some plants for our friends at home. We think this is the last of the bunch since we have no more leaves for the butterflies to lay their eggs on but I'm so glad that Andersons is committed to providing pesticide free milkweed to give our Monarch Butterflies a fighting chance. We'll be sure to keep Andersons high on the list if we run out of milkweed again.

I was looking for Italian terracotta pots and this place had them! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Spoke with Steven re fertilizing my ficus triangularis and he suggested a particular one as the plant is indoors. I also inquired about propagating the ficus and he gave me in depth info, answering all my newbie questions with patience. There were other staff members that were extremely helpful (who's names escape me at the moment). I will make an effort to update this review with their names. It's a 40 min drive one way but I look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Our selection of plants and accessories

A wonderful place with a great selection of low-water, drought resistant plants (that also look great!). The employee June was exceptionally helpful, she even stayed overtime to make sure we found everything we needed! Including a must: Gnome watering can!!

    Steven is amazing!

Ask the Community - Andersons La Costa Nursery

Does this business sell bonsai plants as well as replacement large bonsai planters?

We just shopped there last Saturday June 28th. I recall seeing bonsai plants for sale. It's best if you call their store to be certain. Their staff is incredibly responsive to customer needs, and will gladly advise you.

This is located off of Piraeus Street that runs along the Northbound 5fwy. We entered Piraeus from Leucadia Boulevard. The commercial entrance came up first, then the regular customer entrance, thanks to their clear signs. It was mid-afternoon on a Thursday in January, so maybe that's why the nursery lot was kind of empty the further we went in. At the front area though, there were poinsettia trees still in bloom. I didn't even know that they can grow into trees (they don't last very long after the holidays in my care, lol), so I was actually fascinated to see them so big. They also had a fenced area with 2 small goats, possibly pygmy goats...so cute and friendly. Considering the cold weather, they had a good selection of healthy cacti, potted flowers and plants at reasonable prices (i.e., 4" pot of succulent $5.99, 6pk annuals/perennials $4.99). The bigger shrubs like hydrangea and hebe coed were more expensive ($26.99 and $28.99, respectively), but beautifully kept. We had no plans to garden any time soon so didn't plan on buying anything, but ended up getting some plant accessories, including a car-shaped ceramic planter that kiddo really liked, lol. Service was okay. We were the only ones there and took our time browsing, but no one asked if we needed help. The woman at the cash register wasn't rude, but not particularly friendly either.

I have completely fallen in love with this gem of a nursery in Encinitas. I have been searching for…read morerare plants all over North County and have found that this has the best selection and best value for rare houe plants. This whole rack of plants came from Cordova, and not a single one can be found at any other nursery for these affordable prices (think 25%-50% of the price you'd find online). I have found several White Princess and Pink Princess Philodendron that have made exquisite gifts for the holidays. The most amazing Philodendron I found was the Jose Bueno, its leaves are easily at least 18" and I snagged it for 1/3 the online price! I have also found Swiss Cheese Monstera, as well as Thai Constellation and Albo varieties. My other amazing find has been their String of Turtles and String of Hearts, which are very rare as compared to the more typical string of pearls. The owner shared with me that he's been in business for over 38 years! He is super knowledgeable and has a vast inventory (hence the competitive pricing). The plants are all super healthy, and I've not had a single pest interloper from their collection. I have never left this nursery without finding what I was looking for. So if you're looking for presents this season (prepare to wow all of your friends and family while not breaking the bank) or want to expand on your rare house plant collection, this is your spot. Go before I buy all their plants.

However you have to be home, they have to be in your area ect so when it was taking a bit to get some from our normal suppliers we just decided to buy some. We figured it must be better quality as well since it was a only a few miles from us and we were paying a decent price. Once it got here we did our usual thing and spread it everywhere we have open space, around our planter boxes, ect. Now that we have had it for a few months though we are feeling duped. This is the opposite of what multch is supposed to do. There are weeds everywhere in our yard. No they cannot be from before because we have always had clover here and there and hand pull knowing that some will come back. These are weeds of all types that we have never had (mallow, dandelion ect). There are also mushrooms and even nasturtium growing. I am so disappointed as now it will be pretty much impossible to get rid of all these without chemicals. So don't buy mulch here. Just get it fresh out of the tree trimmers truck.
