This Armstrong Garden Centers is integrated with The Flower Fields, and is across from the Windmill Food Hall. The location is very convenient with plenty of parking spaces in the private lot. The garden center is one of the larger Armstrongs I've been to. There's plenty of plants to see and merchandise to buy. Most importantly, it's organized and the plants seem happy. However, the prices aren't the cheapest - I've seen better at other nurseries in the Carlsbad area. I was personally looking for fruit trees and there was a limited amount of varieties to choose from. We like getting our Christmas trees here. Especially when they have Fraser Firs. They smell and look great! This year we got a tall and full Noble Fir. In general Firs are our favorite! Prices vary so it's nice to have price range options. Love walking around here. And of course getting plants and or garden items from here. They even have ladybugs for purchase! So I came here actually because I was curious about the flower fields but because I was traveling alone, I knew I wouldn't want to actually go into the fields (it's $22 per person - I saw a bit of it from the shop and it looks super cute for couples/small groups tho if you went to do a lil photo shoot)! I wanted to come into the garden center tho because my mom loves flowers and i was looking for some seeds for her. They had a lovely variety to choose from along the back wall including some native California species which is what I bought for my mom. They had TONS of other garden materials too, including potted flowers that you can just directly plant. It was such a cute little garden center right there in Carlsbad! I hope it's around whenever I make my way back since I do eventually want to visit the flower fields (which are directly behind the garden center). Do take note - if you're going to the flower fields, the garden center does NOT allow you to park in their lot for that, you have to park somewhere else! read more

This is the best nursery! There are so many varieties to choose from between the outside and indoor plants! It's such a nice nursery to well thru! I haven't been here in a few years, only because we just recently moved back to Oceanside from Fallbrook. Anyway, I'm so glad we came in today. We were looking for a certain plant, however it was out of season, so it was understandable that they didn't have it. Everything else we found and purchased was great though. The clerk at the register even gave us some good advice about the milkweed plants that we got. The workers there are very attentive and seem to have a genuine want to make sure you are picking the proper plants and how to best take care of them. I will most definitely be back! read more

Additionally, they have a nursery gift shop inside that has a ton of wonderful gift ideas, low light plants, garden clogs, wind chimes, just the whole kit and caboodle. Additionally, they are located near the Flower Fields and April is the time to see this wonderful annual gift of flowers blooming in controlled chaos. In an age of mammoth corporations, tech billionaires , and mergers in reading, it is so comforting g to have any business that feels even remotely " homey". Armstrong nursery has such a local orientation, combined with incredibly knowledgeable staff on hand, that I feel almost personally cared about. What a concept. This morning we were in the nursery looking for some herb plants, when we were approached by Cecilia with an offer of help. And help she did. She knew so much about the wide range of herb plants available. She also shared some really interesting ideas for possible uses. Too fun! The staff at Armstrong gardens has taught us how to care for our plants. They are knowledgeable, and fun to talk to. A healthy garden and landscape make us feel happy. Each day we notice something special in the garden. Avoiding harmful chemicals might mean a little more work but is well worth not exposing ourselves to agents that can make us ill. What the heck has happened to this Armstrong's? It has significantly gone downhill with customer service since approximately 2022. First problem: this Armstrong's used to have a varied perennial and/or groundcover selection on a regular basis for us to pick up and replenish our gardening needs. Now, they rarely have what we need in stock, which creates the second problem... Customer Service says they need to create a special order. Nine times out of 10, the person at the register does not know how to do this and when a manager comes up to help, many times she seems flustered. Each time, we patiently wait while all this is going on and assume managers know how to do their job. We're not sure if this is what is causing the problem, but waiting one month for special order plants to come in -- is a problem and we are No longer shopping at this Armstrong's. (There have even been a couple times when our plant order never came in, after waiting weeks and weeks. **We** had to call for updates or drive to the store to find out.) What's more maddening, other Armstrong's have the needed selection and then some! To the customer, it seems as if Armstrong's Carlsbad just doesn't want to do their job because other Armstrong's ARE doing their job. Just for the record, we have been shopping at this location for 30 years and never had problems like this before 2022. This Armstrong's needs to have a constant, well stocked inventory, strong management leadership and knowledgeable customer service. Only one woman at this location seems to have quality knowledge. These attributes were always paramount and on point at this location. But now? Everyone gives lip service and most do not follow through....from regular management to seasonal workers. Why has this has happened more times than not, for 3 years?? When Kent was a manager this NEVER happened. When Ken was a manager this NEVER happened. Someone needs to do a deep dive....Someone needs to find out why. It's my belief this location relies heavily on tourism sales instead of caring about the general Community around them that pours money into their yards buying from this Armstrong's location. The people who live around this Armstrong's, in the community...who are not part of the flower field's overflow...buy succulents, junipers, fruit trees, ground cover, florals and vegetables...and they are not being represented by your Customer Service team with a proper work ethic...just a smile and NO follow through. If this behavior didn't happen before with other managers, it shouldn't happen now. Please do the right thing, Armstrong's Carlsbad -- and respect your local Carlsbad community by being professional beyond a fake smile and a phony promise that you will take our special order (which never used to be a special order) and follow through. Go back to what you did well for **decades** and stop giving dedicated, big ticket plant buyers the run around, so you don't have to "go out of your way". Remember, lip service never ever works because people feel lied to and ripped off. read more

This Armstrong Garden Centers is located adjacent to the Flower Fields. They are employee owned and operated, with locations throughout San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles Counties. It might be the most well stocked garden center I've ever seen. It offering everything from seeds, to plants, to shoves, to patio furniture. It has everything and is probably has more diverse offerings than most big box retailers. Prices seem pretty fair and you can even purchase some of the Ranunculus seeds and blooming plants from the Flower Fields. Nice! read more

Awesome customer service. I came here seeking ranunculus flowers to take home after visiting the neighboring The Flower Fields and was pleased to see they sell many bouquets in bud form. I am someone who doesn't know much about plant care so I get intimidated going to a nursery. The staff here is passionate about plants, flowers, etc and they talked me through several tips for taking care of my floral bouquet to make the flowers last long. I typically frequent smaller nurseries but I just can't quit this Armstrong. It's an absolute it gem. Staff is mostly made up of very knowledgeable women gardener gurus. They have a host of info on plant care and will walk you through finding the perfect pieces for your garden. The indoor plant selection is especially nice, and it keeps me coming back over and over. My current favorite is their beautifully kept Chinese money plants - so unique and dainty. Prices are on the higher side, but you're paying for healthy, well-kept greenery. It's worth it. read more

Wow I was so floored by how rude the employee name Bill was. What happened to this man to make him so mean in the first 30 seconds. I came to this place with a specific plant I wanted, and the woman working was very nice to try and find it. Then came Bill. I asked him about the plant to which he said they could order, but if they have them in stock they sit around and die. Ok fine. I asked him for some suggestions of something similar. I am trying to replace some palms and want something more drought tolerant. Bill begins to rant about how palms can be drought tolerant and how all need constant sunlight (that's not true, many plants need some shade so they don't fry) and how now is a terrible time to plant anything (ummm ok). I asked if he had any suggestions, I was just looking for a few ideas and he said "yeah lots of suggestions" but didn't tell us a single thing. He was totally unwilling. I have no idea why we were just looking to buy some plants and he was terrible. Please avoid this place, I drove here on suggestion of my lovely neighbor and I was not expecting this treatment at all. read more

** Masked Required upon entering ** I ventured out for some last minute Christmas shopping. I was lucky to almost have this place for myself while shopping. Parking was easy that morning as well, which is rare. This is a great location because you could tour the flower fields when in bloom and it is safe to be in large gatherings again. Employees were wearing masks and busy on the floor putting everything in place. The shelves inside were fully stocked with merchandise as well as the plants outdoors. Because I waited too long before shopping here, their outdoor wall décor and wind spinners were just a few. But I was able to find plenty of other stocking stuffers. Succulents were in order when I visited this Armstrong Garden Center. The 4" variety to add to my every expanding succulent collection. In the back of the store, they carry a very good variety. I picked up some Sedum Rubrotinctum, also known as "Stonecrop." It's a good succulent to grow around rocks and stonre borders. In the shade it stays green and in the sun, it turns an orange & red color. It's quite nice. I also picked up some aloe, a spineless mini paddle cactus, and one called "Monterrey Bay:" a new one for the collection. The small succulents ranged from $4 to $5. The order gent at the register was quite and reserved but had that dry humor. Good service. read more

Bottom Line: A lovely garden center for purchasing plants, shrubs and trees or just for acquiring inspiration. When I lived in Carlsbad Armstrong Gardens was always my go-to spot for plants. They have a wide variety and they are always well cared for. I don't have much of a green thumb so plants have to be healthy when I buy them or they don't have much hope! The inside of the store has some houseplants, gardening tools and gifts but it's the beautiful outdoor nursery that is so neat. They have a great variety of plants, shrubs and trees that thrive in San Diego's hardiness zone but they also have beautiful Mexican pottery, lawn art, professional quality Dramm watering wands, trellises and other goodies. I love the variety of succulents that Armstrong Gardens carries. It's fun to make your own succulent garden whether with just a few tiny plants or many plants. It's a great gardening activity for kids too. I mostly recently went to Armstrong Gardens just to look around and find some peace. While I was there I saw an employee providing excellent customer service to an elderly couple and the husband may have had dementia. She was so welcoming and patient with the couple and she even found him a place to sit while the wife retrieved the car for loading. It was really nice to see a display of such excellent customer service! read more

Poor Customer Service on Sunday @ 4:20pm, less than 2 weeks from Thanksgiving. I returned the Christmas Tree stand hoping for a $10 refund but was told by a short blonde clerk that I'm too late and there was no refund. Late? Xmas is over a month away! Then she wanted me to give her the stand for free, saying, "Oh, I'll take care of that for you." When I asked short blonde to re-consider she laughed in my face and this gray-headed man clerk stood beside her smiling. Very unprofessional behavior helped me decide to never give Armstrong any more business. I suggest you avoid them too. read more

We've purchased plants here for several years, but once the sheltering-in-place order took effect we found ourselves working from home and having extra time on our hands. It was the perfect time to add to our backyard project. Our first order at the end of March was completed by Cecilia. The plants she chose for us were healthy & beautiful. We worked through April to get everything planted. We decided this week to add more plants. We again, by choice, worked with Cecilia. Once we gave her our project ideas, she picked out the perfect plants again. We'll be starting our new project this week and we're excited to see how it turns out. We can't thank Cecilia enough. Cant believe I haven't written a review about Armstrong Garden Center yet. This place is amazing. Such a variety of plants and pots! Also cute and unique garden ornaments and solar ornamental lights...it's a wonderland! Stuff you are not likely to find in other stores. The staff was awesome yesterday and one gentleman offered a cart and went and got it for us, and then it was super hot and they brought us water bottles! For free! The most amazing customer service ever! My friend and I were creating a live plant gift for a going away gift for one of our staff and it was a real hit! A beautiful pot that was reasonably priced, and 3 gorgeous plants and some gorgeous organic soil (I think it was Edna's Best and it was incredible) and a beautiful butterfly ornament all for $50!!!!! needless to say we we're thrilled! They also have garden tools and plant supplies and pest control items, seriously everything you need for your garden. There's an entrance that is closer to Palomar Airport Rd, don't be a dope like me and get off the 5 at Cannon and drive through the outlet mall parking lot..ugh! If you're looking for beautiful and amazing things for your home and garden this is a must visit. High 5 or 5 stars all the way! read more

It's pricey here but if you have disposable income it's defiantly a nice looking small nursery. Or should I say it's a definitely a nice gift place? There's a lot of "decor" items that grandma gardeners buy like fairy garden houses and metal art. They also sell totally unrelated stuff like soaps and salad dressings. While I do understand that Armstrong has good knowledge and service, many of the locally owned nurseries will also give you good advice, though they might not have the number of staff roaming the lot.. - During the flower fields exhibit Carlsbad Gourmet sells strawberry themed treats like Strawberry shakes and Sundaes. - Paths are clean of free of debris. - Everything is well displayed and looks nice. - Not the best selection of fruits and veg.. - Save yourself some major money and look at the flowers fields for free here at the Nursery. They had beautiful little 4" pots, and I got three to go with the other three that were already in the planter. Popped in during the weekend after the Flower Field and picked up some magnets for myself to keep as souvenir. Customer service is very friendly, I got rung up on the register really quick. I love that when they see that a line is forming, they open up another register to help their guest. At their outdoor area they have a tent area set up that sells food and drinks. I got the chance to try the Strawberry Dole Whip and I love it! If you love strawberries and dole whip, this is the item for you. Perfect midday refreshments stop. Parking is shared and crazy, I can see that a lot of people who are parking near them are pretty much just going to the flower field. I am one of them. read more

I've gone to several nursery's in the area and this was by far my favorite. There were also butterflies everywhere, it looked like a scene from a movie. My only critique is that the orchids were pricy, and if that is what you are looking for you're better off getting them at Ralph's or Costco. But other than that the flower selection was awesome and they had great deals. I'm definitely going to go back there soon.
