Had a very good experience with Moon Valley. Cameron was the sales associate an expert who helped us and is very knowledgeable on tree selection. Spent a lot of time with us to find the perfect tree. Then with install, Adam and his crew were excellent! Helped us through the positioning and he and his team worked very hard to get it absolutely perfect. I also had shopped around and visited several nurseries and priced compared trees with hiring separate for install, but I always come back to Moon Valley as there is not quite any other place like them including their guarantee which is a nice safety. We recently purchased 10 large privets for over $10,000. Four of the trees failed. 2 trees have died after the warranty period. Unfortunately, MV did not provide any assistance with replacing them. It has been a very disappointing experience and extremely costly. One would expect a tree to last at least one year. MV is focused on selling over-priced products. Run away! read more

I went on their website to order iceplant. Very strange website as it appears you cannot shop and order. So I called them (Saturday late afternoon). I spoke with a man that stated that it is best to come in and pick the iceplant up in person. If I come in by tomorrow before 5pm, I could buy them (at the Escondido location) with 60% off. He made a point of telling me not to miss the great discount! So, I drove out their first thing Sunday am (30 minutes) only to find out there were zero iceplants in stock and had to order at the desk. I was told there would be no 60% discount since I had to order with them at the store. Such BS! Nor even an apology for the misinformation and my waste of time driving there, etc. So, most likely NOT going to buy from them again. read more

Is there such a thing as a concierge nursery? That's how I would describe this place. I contacted this nursery over the phone because we wanted to add another jacaranda tree to the yard and were looking for a nursery with them in stock. It's not high season at other nurseries in terms of inventory, and this place definitely has more in stock year round. After we arrived, we found Andrew and we were given a ride over to the section of the nursery. No dragging trees in wagons. It was loaded into the gator and then into our truck for us. They gave us some potting soil, mulch and moon juice. I'm not sure if this is typical or part of the sale but that was incredibly awesome as that was everything we needed to complete the planting. You can have them plant for you but seeing that I didn't have an exact spot marked, I opted to do my own planting. Overall the experience was extremely high end with great customer service. I've never been to a nursery like this before. With that said, I think that their price reflects this. Did we get a high quality plant for the money? Yes. Poor customer service, the business just wants to keep selling you things not help You maintain your purchase unless you buy more from them. They were extremely difficult to get ahold of once we made a large purchase. Half the plants died and they would not address it. Don't waste your money buying from Moon Valley Nurseries. The inflate their prices then offer a 50% discount as if you're getting a deal. Shop around with some smaller nurseries and you'll see how they compare. Also, they sold us a grafted Palo Verde that shot up--on the grafted side--and ended up growing all bushy. Looks horrible now seven years later. And, on another tree (Tipu) their team didn't dig the hole wide enough which ended up causing the tree to take years longer to establish. Learned from that lesson, won't ever shop here again. Profit over product. read more

Absolutely the dream team! After a neighboring ADU project loomed over our backyard and completely changed the landscape of our home, we were devastated. We lost privacy, the vibe of our yard felt different, and we weren't sure how to fix it. That's when we found Moon Valley, and I can say without a doubt -- this crew saved our backyard. From the very start, Andre kicked off the project with creative direction, a sharp design eye, and an understanding of the complexity of our space. He was thoughtful, professional, and incredibly responsive. We knew right away we were in good hands. He was always there to be consultative. Incredibly responsive and guided the project. Adam's planting team absolutely crushed it. We had a tricky elevation situation with retaining walls, uneven slopes, and limited planting space -- and they handled it with precision and care. It's not easy to work with mature ficus, especially on this kind of terrain, but they executed it flawlessly and were communicative every step of the way. Mike Murphy & Marquez were also instrumental with making things happen behind the scenes and I'm incredibly grateful for them. The result? I went to the Moon Valley Nursery with my parents to see what fruit trees they had available during their large sale. They had waters, soda, and snacks at the entrance. We walked around a little bit before meeting Maggie. Maggie was super helpful and gave us her phone number as we walked the property looking for trees. She said to call her if we have any questions. We called asking where the smaller fruit trees were and she directed us to where they are. As we walked closer to the fruit trees, Maggie joined us and explained the variety of trees and how the sale works. Everything was 50% off! We decided on buying a persimmon tree and a blueberry bush with delivery. We also added the Moon Juice, Mulch, Soil Conditioner, and Moon Dust. This came out to $1,113. In the future I would just bring a bigger car or truck to take the trees home the day of. Delivery was about $250. Maggie was extremely knowledgeable about all the plants and trees at the Nursery. She was attentive and super nice. She is a great salesperson and we would definitely recommend her if you need help! read more

Stopped at Moon Valley a couple months ago to discuss ways to add more tall greenery to our backyard to hide the unsightly fence. They were very attentive and knowledgeable and we walked out having bought lots of new trees and set a planting date. Alas, although we sent the measurements of our planter boxes that same afternoon, a couple weeks later we got a call that there was concern the trees we were recommended wouldn't fit. But they wanted to drive out to our house to double check - which I appreciated. The bad news: no those trees wouldn't work The good news: they had other options that would still be nice. It's been a week since that visit and we just got our new trees planted this morning. Antonio Martinez and his crew were really nice and helpful and thorough getting them in this morning. Antonio talked me through spacing and offered to take the spare top soil to different places in my yard so it wouldn't go to waste. He also gave me clear instructions on how to care for them for the first 6 months to get them really established and get them to grow the way we want. My wife and I purchased a Mexican Blue Fan Palm that includes one large center tree surrounded by 5 smaller trees. Adam and his crew did and outstanding job. They arrived early, promptly dug a significant hole about 4 feet diameter and 2.5 feet deep. Four guys muscled the collection of trees off the truck and got planted pronto. They cleaned up and were on their way. Total time on scene was perhaps an hour. Spent $10,000 on a new tree with this place about a year ago. All went fairly well with that transaction but was promised a lot of follow up, aftercare and attentive service. Nothing. Called for a quote on tree trimming for other trees on our property. Reached out to them four times without response. Again nothing happened. Received a flyer from their corporate headquarters and managed to get an appointment for the tree trimming analysis. Scheduled a visit and they had to cancel because of staff shortages. No follow up. I went to several nurseries in the SD area and after much planting over the years I finally found the nursery for my projects from great healthy trees to screening, hedges & ornamental grasses. The sales rep Hayden Salught kindly greeted us & captured what we were looking for / great listening skills, there was never pushing just advising, a wealth of knowledge & familiarity with the expansive Moon Valley yard. We quickly noticed the quality of the trees & plants compared to other nurseries including sister locations. We found Escondido to have superior plants/trees & the rest of the sales team: mangers Mike & Phil were a big help to get over the finish line. We had a wonderful buying experience & the prices were competitive but again the quality & included services on reflection was greatest value. Trees are absolutely an investment the best advice is to plant them right! On delivery, everything that we selected - trees, screening, hedges & ornamental grasses showed up in perfect condition. Our plan was to try and get our current trees back to normal and purchase a Persimmons tree. Maggie explained some issues with our current plum tree and suggested some fixes with personal notes. That was cool. We then went to look at trees. Unfortunately, the trees we looked at were too big for our location. No pressure sales from Maggie and we returned to purchase some fertilizers that she explained again to us. Even gave us a buy one get one free. Never realized the science behind growing a plant.
