These 5 stars are directly awarded to Naia - and Pat (Patrick??) gets honorable mention for responsiveness. Long story short, we purchased 24 trees that were to act as a privacy hedge (mainly to block out the very unattractive home and retaining wall next to us). It appears we are in a local micro-clime, as this past, unusually late winter and its consecutive days of frost wiped out at least half of our original tree investment. I kept fingers (and toes!) crossed, convinced that our previously thriving trees would come back to their former glory once warm weather returned. Alas, my husband was correct and all my wishes were for naught - week after week, our view was of naked, crooked tree trunks, still clinging to their original support posts. As we are hosting a garden-party bridal shower for my niece the end of this month, I knew we had a problem that needed solving. Enter Naia. She listened with empathetic ear to our woeful tale - and gazed upon our forlorn photos. She thought and she thought. And, in the end, blessed us mightily with 11, glorious new trees - a different variety, sure to stand any additional freezes we may endure in the future. We huffed and we puffed, and we removed the old and planted the new - all in one day, as the shower date is fast approaching. No, we don't have a thick, view-obstructing hedge at this point - but we at least have a genuine hope that we will have exactly that in the future! As I own/operate my own small business, I know first-hand what it means to deliver quality, consistently. It matters. And it is refreshing to see a large company that cared enough about the little guy to go above and beyond to find a reasonable solution. We don't see that happening very often, and when it does, it should be duly recognized. Naia - thank you, thank you and thank you again. We will absolutely be bringing repeated business your way. Thank you for your kindness, and ethics. read more

I rarely take the time to write a yelp review and am often skeptical of many that I read. The experience I had from start to finish with Moon Valley Nursery in Escondido is absolutely deserving of this great review. It started by me seeing all of their grand opening advertising in the Union Tribune. I have a half acre of pretty bleak land behind my home that really needed some help. My wife and I took a ride to Moon Valley not expecting much, and were immediately impressed by the sheer volume of trees and planting material. We also noticed that everything looked very healthy and well taken care of. The staff was friendly and when I told them about what I was considering they had me speak with Aaron. He looked at pictures of my property and made an appointment to come to my house the next day. He took more pictures and some measurements and said he would call me back later, which he promptly did. We discussed his ideas and the amazing deal he worked out for me, and within the hour, my wife, son and I were at Moon Valley picking out and tagging 5 very large 36" crate size trees. We set up the delivery and installation for the following week. Today at 8:30 AM, Carlos Q. and his crew of 5 showed up at my home ready to roll. This team worked for 4 straight hours planting the trees and making sure that everything was perfect. They were all so nice and professional and they were very sincere about making sure that we were completely happy with the job. All I can say is that this Company is dead set on building their business and making sure that their customers are happy. I wish them much success in the pursuit of their goal and if they keep doing the kind of work that the whole team did for us, they will be around for a long time to come. They get my strongest endorsement! read more

Andrew Hahn with Moon Valley Nurseries was my Nursery Professional & Design Specialist is a fantastic landscape consultant, he shared his plant/landscape knowledge, plus years of working experience. Andrew listened to my landscape needs with returning back to me with several shrub and tree options. Andrew was able to bring my home property up on his desk computer while we spoke within his office, his landscape software loaded on his computer was able to measure my property to determine the amount of shrubs and trees I'd need to purchase to fulfill my privacy landscape expectations. Andrew then gave me a tour of the Moon Valley Nursery to show me different shrubs and trees that would strive and live well within my landscape around invasive trees, introduced plants that were quick growing, suggested evergreen plants that hold their leaves year long for privacy, while considering my soil conditions, reviewing my property's temperature zone location for drought tolerance, and suggesting low infestation maintenance plants. Andrew physically came to my home property to flag-out where each shrub and tree would be precisely planted. Andrew then scheduled Moon Valley arrival date to my home for planting. He met with my irrigation specialist contractor with giving him suggestions on the amount water per hour and watering cycle with my newly installed drip system. Plus, gave me consultant maintenance and fertilization advise. I highly recommend Andrew Hahn and Moon Valley Nurseries for your shrub and tree landscape needs. read more

My Moon Valley experience began with a phone call in early March. My goal was simple...getting a nice selection of fruit trees to add to my backyard. I spoke with Anthony Gardner...he took the time to get an idea of what I wanted, then offered to come by the house before my wife and I drove up to the Escondido nursery to pick out the trees. We live in the UC area of San Diego about 25 miles south...so that was a great help. Getting the AT&T rep to mark the phone lines added a long delay to the process, but Anthony stayed in touch, and made sure our trees were in good shape. Planting Day was yesterday 14April....I was called the day before to confirm delivery. Early on the 14th. I got another call to set-up the delivery window 1-3pm. The crew... led by Brett Parker arrived on time but I was wondering how they could plant 9 trees before dark... Ends up there was nothing to worry about. Once Felix, Miguel, Taylor, and Tyler got on the job, they worked like a well-oiled machine. 2 hours later Brett and I were finishing up paperwork and the guys were cleaning up. It was a great experience! This morning I couldn't stop smiling as I watered my new fruit trees btw... 2 avocados... A peach... And a lemon, lime, and orange... All with small fruit already growing. My order also included three hedge trees. My wife and I are already working on another project, and the "A-team" from Moon Valley will definitely be a big part of our future landscaping needs. Thanks again guys!!!!!! read more

Advertising budget is high but customer service is extremely low. Moon Valley's Advertisements are everywhere, they offer free planting but that cost has already been added into the prices of the plants. The "free planting" aspect of this company should have a big fat asterisk next to it. What they don't tell you is they will also add a delivery fee of around $100 or more. I ordered over $2500 in plants and ground cover and what they considered to be "planting" is extremely questionable. Most of my plants were lifted from the pots and just plopped onto the ground with the root ball exposed. A handful of them fell over and about 20-30% of the plants have died. The workers from Moon Valley also left a mess of dirt, soil, and mulch everywhere across my back yard. Let's not forget that when they originally showed up, they forgot to bring about half of the plants we ordered and had to come back. When I say come back it was over 2 weeks later and they still didn't bring the correct items. We've had a manager show up and admit that we received sub-par plants and horrible planting service but have yet to have any sort of follow up. After a dozen phone calls that have had no response back to us. No resolution at all. Do not purchase here. The "free planting" aspect is not as it seems. Hire someone to deliver and do the planting or even do it yourself. Other nurseries have far better quality and pricing available. read more

We built our dream home, and now had to start the landscaping. With such a large blank canvas, it was quite a lot to try to undertake. We went to Moon Valley Nursery, and met with Joe. He spent a lot of time with us showing us trees, shrubs, flowers, ground cover. He drove us around the nursery, which I thought was very helpful and fun. He came out to our home and did a consultation and helped us design our landscaping. He gave us lots of ideas and options. Joe was extremely knowledgeable about design and professional and patient. I took a long time deciding exactly what I wanted, but he was very patient and understanding. My landscaping is absolutely beautiful. Chris and his hard working team delivered all the plants, and I could not be happier with their service, as well. They planted all the trees so fast. They are the most hard working great group of guys. Chris walked around with me to every tree, to make sure it was placed in the correct spot and facing the way I wanted. They were so careful to avoid water lines and electrical lines. His entire team were very courteous and professional, as well. Before leaving Chris made sure I understood the watering and feeding instructions and had everything I would need. I really could not be happier with my experience from beginning to now. Everyone that I have worked with at Moon Valley Nursery has been great. read more

This was by far one of the best experiences we have had with our landscape needs. We have a fairly diverse landscape and were looking to add a few trees for shade. We also wanted some type of tree that produced as we have many fruit trees and a nice little garden. We were pleasantly surprised to find the pecan trees at the nursery and were more impressed with the large inventory of trees and plants. They have a wide variety of trees on hand and they are some of the largest, healthiest trees we have ever seen in a nursery around here. Mark White helped us through the whole process of selecting and scheduling the planting of the trees and was very thorough in his explanation of what to expect. Very professional and courteous. On the day of planting, the driver, David called us to give us a time to expect them and they were very prompt, showing up when they said they would. I would like to especially thank David and the whole planting crew. Those guys were very hard working and got both trees planted in about an hour. They were very professional, had all of the right tools to do the job and cleaned up everything to better than it was before they arrived. We are very impressed with Moon Valley Nursery and will be taking all of our business to them and would recommend their services to anyone. Thank you to all of the folks at Moon Valley!! I am very pleased with our dealings with Moon. Pat Petrone was our sales guy. We bought 6 trees for the price of 5. Using pictures of our yard he helped design the landscape then followed up with an onsite visit for final design review. He had some very good suggestions. The installation team did a great job moving the big trees in and placing them correctly. One concern we had was that they had a reputation for damaging property and not being careful. These fears were unfounded as they did not damage anything even though they had to lift 2 trees up over a low wall. they left everything in great shape. What prompted writing this review was the after care. The trees were planted in October. Two were damaged by frost over the winter. One recovered the other died. Even though the warranty is 3 months when I called 6 months later and explained the timing of the planting and waiting to see if the tree would recover, Andrew agreed to replace the tree without any argument. Standing behind their product is what shows this is a good company as they were professional in all aspects, from the initial sale, installation and warranty. Even when there was some mix up on the day they were supposed to replace the tree, the dispatcher corrected the problem and got the tree out to our house for the crew to install. read more

Where to start. We live In Scripps Ranch (land of rocks and clay soil). We have a yard full of mature tress. I am the gardner of the family and I am very picky about what I do with our yard. Earlier this year we had a large (over 20 feet) podocarpus blow down during the one day of heavy rains and wind! It was a beautiful tree and we missed it. We have since been searching for another podocarpus tree to replace it. We went to the regular nurseries around town and found nothing. I learned about this place up the I -15 in Escondido. My husband and I went there and I was in TREE HEAVEN. So many large boxed trees that were healthy (I look at leaves, new growth etc.) I found the tree I wanted (36' box tree). Today Carlos Q and his tree team came and planted it. It took them about 3 hours to dig the hole (sooo many rocks) amend the soil, then place/plant the tree. Our big bare spot now has a beautiful podocarpus tree. I cannot say enough about Carlos Q and his team (the tree dream team). If you are looking for large, healthy trees, that are delivered and planted by this amazing Nursery then you must drive out to Moon Valley Nurseries (just off the I-15). You will be amazed at all the different varieties and sizes of tress they have. And the purchase price includes the professional planting. read more

I had already gotten two beautiful Magnolias from Moon Valley Nurseries. I'm very happy with them. Then I went in person to pick out some fruit and citrus trees. Ross Nour took me through the nursery, on a golf cart thank goodness, which was nice because I couldn't walk that far. He listened carefully to exactly what I wanted and with his help I selected trees that should be just what I want and will work for my area. He had some suggestions on different varieties and I think those trees will work out better than some of the varieties I had originally thought I wanted. He was very helpful and he was probably the most knowledgeable nurseryman I've ever dealt with. He told me that upon delivery the soil will be amended prior to planting and they will feed the trees with what they need to get well established. Planting is included in the price and Ross told me Moon Valley Nurseries will guarantee the trees. I can hardly wait for the trees to go in. I'll update my review later to include information on the planting. I liked how helpful Ross was and felt very comfortable with my transaction. I didn't feel pressured or urged to buy more than I wanted or to buy larger trees. So far, I'm very satisfied with Moon Valley Nurseries and Ross Nour. read more

Come to Moon Valley Nurseries in Escondido just as I did. Easily 5 stars. I stopped in to get information on Moon Valley Nurseries and their capabilities for doing a project I have in mind for next year. I'd like to specifically point out my experience with Graham Veile. He is the Customer Service Manager and it is so evident why. I immediately sensed his knowledge and understanding about landscaping in general. I was so impressed with his plant knowledge - he truly is an expert in his craft. Even though my project is for a future date, Graham was not phased. Most people will not give you the time of day if you are not interested in purchasing anything for right now. Not Graham. He was SO patient, enthusiastic, and knew exactly what I needed and wanted. He spent so much time with me and I felt like he genuinely cared about making me happy. This is so incredibly rare, and really sets him apart in his profession. I appreciate his time and consideration for thoroughly laying out all my future options. Like I mentioned, I was not ready to start my project that day, but I cannot wait to return back and I'll DEFINITELY be using Graham. I highly recommend Moon Nurseries, but more importantly Graham for any and all your landscaping needs. read more

About a month ago we were researching Nurseries to replace losses from the neighbor's tree falling onto our property during last winter's storms. We saw Moon Valley Nurseries' advertisement to plant the trees we select so we visited them. John Allen, Design Specialist, took us on a tour of the Nursery and helped us select 4 trees and several plants that suited our needs. Two visits were needed to complete the planting - Manny and the good guys on the first visit and Ryan, Ismael, and Felix on the second visit. Two visits were required because on one tree Manny found a branch damaged in transportation and would not plant the tree. We appreciated that. His crew also helped with existing irrigation pipes and removing old tree roots. Both teams arrived within the allotted time and called ahead before arrival. They were very considerate of our property as they hauled the trees and other plants into place. Both teams were courteous and respectful and cleaned up our property before they departed. That and more is part of their delivery/installation checklist that must be completed before leaving the site. We've completed the first period of intense watering and are very pleased with the results. Moon Valley Nursuries has our recommendation. read more

Wow, I am stunned by the bad reviews! I have nothing but good to say about these guys. First, the selection is incredible. The wide variety of different types, and then the number of selections of each. Dave Johnston, certified arborist, drove us around and educated us on what would grow in Poway. We chose 4 species, 10 trees in all. Wrapped a ribbon on each. Got a delivery date about 10 days out. Dave came over to our home a couple days after we were there to make sure the trees would be sufficient for what we were looking to do. Everything checked out as he had suggested. DELIVERY DAY came. We got a call saying they would be here between 2 - 3 PM. They got here at 1:45. Crew of 5 guys. Without hesitation, these guys went right to work. Talked to Dave on the phone during the planting. Everything was going perfectly. The crew, Blake, Robert, Anthony, Dennis and Chris, were careful not to bust any existing irrigation. They worked fast and very professionally, and even uprooted one, turned it 90 degrees, and replanted it. They fertilized and watered. When they were done, they removed all debris from the planting, then even swept my entire driveway. Nothing but good things about this company and people. read more

If you've never been to Moon Valley Nurseries it is a pure customer pleasure. No need to wander around looking for someone, we was greeted out front. We were shown through what amount to a botanical garden of well maintained trees and shrubs. Relaxing. The selection was tremendous. I bought 2 trees and a couple of large patio plants. The trees come with installation included, but I was unsure about the specific placement. Good thing, Moon Valley Nurseries included a site visit from Brandon, the associate that helped us pick out the trees. He is very patient and knowledgeable. He was able to assist me, at my home, to make sure we planted the trees in very best positions. The day of the install, I had prepared irrigation down tubes, but I had no idea what the crew might say about installing them. But, again, Moon Valley Nurseries provided good people. The crew they sent were not only hardworking and profession, they were fun. We were all joking around, and of course, they install the irrigation, no problem. So, I want to thank a good group of guys, Rich, Brett, Elliot, RJ and Rob, that was a very good, clean install of two, 36" box, Evergreen Ash trees. Piece of cake. You made it so. read more

Recently purchased three box trees and two 15 gal topiaries. With this we got free planting. Delivery took awhile but that was expected given all the new business coming from the Escondido location. The trees and topiaries we purchased are of a type and quality we could not find elsewhere. The nursery is great with all it's big, beautiful mature trees. But...if not for the sale going on, I don't know that we could have made the purchase as they are pricey. Delivery and installation went great. Blake and his crew did an excellent job. Prior to arrival, Blake kept me informed as to their approximate arrival time. Once on site, each member of the crew seemed to know his job, and the crew working as a whole knew exactly what needed to be done. As it was not easy terrain in which to plant, or an easily accessible planting area, I was surprised at how quickly the job got done, and without any complaints. No mess was left behind. Blake and his crew were all very polite, very professional, and answered all my questions at the time. Time will only tell how the trees adapt and grow. Until then, we will add some water and keep our fingers crossed. Hope to do more business in the future. read more
