Five star upgrade (2022 update ) I've been coming here for years and while it's not the largest succulent retail store in San Diego it has some very good specimens at better than fair prices (cheaper than waterwise). The selection is limited to some cacti and mostly succulents. But they'll have the ones you're looking for and some exotic ones as well. I've never been disappointed and I've always found something new to plant from here. - This is the place to go for succulent arrangements or if you're starting a small succulant garden. I have puchased many plants from Oasis that are thriving in my yard. - The owner's daughters (presuming) are very helpful and seem to be running the retail shop these days.. Some other nurseries don't have anyone to help with questions. - They always have clearance plants up front. Usually they're only tiny succulents but you can't beat .75 to 1.50 each. - Check days and hours of operation before coming. - They do have a stack of plastic tiny plant carriers if you plan on buying a bunch of tiny succulents. read more

Staff is friendly, the plants are great quality from Altman nurseries just up the hill from there. This place is worth the drive if you're looking for only water efficient plants (no flowery things, no pots, no soils). The selection is pretty good, and all of the plants are in excellent condition. Along the banks of the nursery, you can see what many of these plants will grow up to be...sort of a demonstration garden. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Our father introduced my sister and I to this nursery. We took a drive out and enjoyed looking at the variety of cacti and other water efficient plants. It is very open and somewhat sectioned off in maybe four areas. It may change so be sure when you arrive you go to the little building where you pay and have them explain what is where. Also, ask for the prices because most of them are not marked. It is a dirt area and being in Escondido, it is quite hot, 98 degrees when we went in July. Great place with such a variety of both small and large succulents. Bought the "elusive" string of dolphins (senecio peregrinus)...I thought it was a little pricey at 25 bucks but compared to prices online for a few strings vs a nice size plant (6 inch pot) I can't really complain. The lady working (owner?) with the cute dog did mention she may start selling smaller pots when the weather gets warmer to propagate. Found her friendly and approachable.The place is a little out of the way, but worth the drive. The 2.5 inch pots can range from $2.65 to $3.00, hanging plants 6 inch pots for $9 and large variety pots for $8. Did not check out the larger plants available. Oasis is a large succulent grower. They sell to the public at their outdoor nursery. They have 1 green house and 3 outdoor spaces that you can browse. Plants come in 4" pots to 2 gallon. A few 5 gallons. They have a great selection of echaverias, sedums and aloes. Assorted small $4.50, gallon pots sell for $8, special cactus $25. Echaveria $20. Checked out this hidden gem mid-day Saturday and it wasn't too busy. I literally felt like a kid in a candy store with the wide variety of succulents this amazing nursery has to offer. They had succulents of every color which is a nice addition to every garden. I love how clean and organized this nursery is. The succulents were displayed nicely and came in every size from your small 2-inch succulents to large sized and all fairly reasonably priced. As you drive into the nursery there's great water efficient landscaping displays which will inspire you and give you some awesome ideas! The customer service was great and the lady was super helpful and informative! We will for sure be returning! read more

Very neat and organized. I found the grounds inside the shaded area where most of the plants organized, the floors clean, and reasonably priced. Nothing hard to find at other local nurseries. I did buy an Aloe Hercules 5 gal for $30, 1 gal barrel cacti $8, 1 gal echeverias $8, and a few other things. I would go back. Anyone know where I could buy more rare succulents? read more

This nursery is beautiful. Lots of succulents to choose from... I went in for a few plants and came out with a cart full. I think the prices are ok.. about the same as your local home improvement store but you get so much more variety here. It's a nice walk around the grounds. Lost a star for poor customer service... needs major improvement. The lady working there was not friendly or helpful... got a bad vibe from her. There's other nurseries in the area.. probably won't be back to this one. read more

I still love this place. I've updated to a 5-star because it makes no pretense of offering anything other than some fantastic smaller succulents, many not found other places, with a few drought-tolerant shrubs alongside. More than anything, it's just a nice little place to take a short, soothing stroll through the desert garden for inspiration and find some gems. A focused, small, friendly place. Prices are not the cheapest, but I always leave with something. Every regular-price specimen here LOOKS PERFECT. I could spend a whole day wandering through the 70 acres in Escondido. This is a big (comglomerate?) operation. We were lucky to have Carmen and Bob give us an education on their scientific journey to make us succulent happy. I enjoyed my visit to Oasis and purchased more than a flat of plants to make fairy gardens with my grandkids. The plants were beautiful, well cared for and priced fairly. I was the only customer there since it was close to closing time and I couldn't have asked for better service. Yikes! I would never have survived in business had I given such appalling customer service. You have had several criticisms about your customer service and the rude lady behind the counter who barely acknowledges you let alone helps you out with advice about the plants and yet the problem still persists. Is that lady related to the owner? You are doing yourself a huge disservice by keeping her on unless of course you want to limit the amount of customers you get. If so, you are doing a great job. It's working. I live only a few minutes away and yet I will go to El Plantio for my water wise plants because they treat me with dignity and respect and are more than willing to offer me help and advice with a friendly smile. I don't know what this lady's problem is and maybe she has had a hard life but so have we all. If she could learn to smile and maintain eye contact when a customer asks a question and then answer with courtesy it would go along way. And maybe she would get more of a friendly response too from the customer. And then maybe that would make her feel better and then the circle of courtesy and kindness continues. See how that works? Good luck. I won't be back because I have a choice as to where I spend my money and it isn't where I am disrespected and ignored. Only nice thing I have to say is that you do have beautiful plants. They look healthy and you have a huge variety. But the poor customer service overshadows it all. This is a message to that lady: I truly hope that whatever is bothering you gets resolved. WOW! Somebody told me about this place so my friend and I took a drive down from Norco. Arrived to see a lady leaving with a box of succulents with the biggest smile on her face. I even commented to her about her non-erasable smile. "You haven't been here before? You just wait and see." My non succulent friend gasped when she walked under the first tent. Super healthy plants at reasonable prices! Some I haven't seen before (and trust me, I am an addict!) I was told their inventory changes throughout the year....yeah....like this addict needed to be told THAT! LOL!.
