Amazing compost and other gardening needs. The owner is very knowledgeable and is super friendly. He will walk the grounds with you to explain his products and whatever he recommends for your specific needs. We've been going to this place for years even when they were in Escondido and have had the best service. I've had plants living off the same soil and doing well without adding much. The best part is now, they allow you to bring in a large trashcan about 20 gallons or so and fill it up if you don't have a truck. Super fair pricing. A lot cheaper than Home Depot or Lowe's especially if you're getting into gardening and want really good soil that has been tested. They also sell worm castings, calcium, coco coir and other really nice additives for your soil. They are in the process of creating a soil for a house plants that reduces the house flies/fungus gnats if I remember correctly. This is the only place I will ever go for soil or other garden needs that I can get there. read more

I don't know anything about soil or planting anything....I called Greatsoil and spoke to Graeme who is super knowledgeable and patient. I described my yard along with some overall measurements and the depth of what I needed...then I had areas where I wanted to do different things...desert landscape in two areas...grassy area and then an area where I will be planting some plants that flower..Graeme provided me with three different soils and then was able to get me the delivery the next day. I want to send Graeme a special thanks and let anyone who needs soil to call Greatsoil..I am in the middle of my landscape project so I haven't planted anything yet but I have placed all the soil where i intended it to be and I'm excited to work on it again this weekend. I recently bought a large planter box and needed tons of planter mix. I bought a few yards of topsoil from Peirano ( Also known as great soil). I had to pay for delivery, but it's free delivery if you order 10 yards or more. Keep in mind that if you're using this stuff for your home yard you're probably not going to need that much. read more

My company has been buying potting mix from Graeme for two years now. We relied on his knowledge and expertise and our customers have been happy ever since. Potting mix is a difficult product to sell. Plants are fickly and conditions such as water, sunlight, and temperature can greatly impact the outcome. When peoples plants die they are quick to blame anyone but themselves. I have been gardening for years and in the beginning I lost most of what I planted. You learn to read your plants and realize every plant has different needs. What we love about Graeme is his consistency and friendly attitude. I am a homeowner that knows very little about soil but started a landscape project and found myself needing a particular type of soil, and a lot of it. I emailed Greatsoil and Graeme responded immediately. I had a lot of questions, and he patiently answered them all. I went out to the facility and took home a sample of the soil, and then ended up ordering 4 cubic yards which was just delivered, on schedule, to my house. The dump truck driver had absolute precision when he dropped the soil on tarps in my driveway, and my landscapers said it looks like top quality soil. Greatsoil was recommended to me by someone else in the landscaping business, and from first contact with Graeme to visiting the dirt yard to the driver, everyone I came in contact with was super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, responsive and reliably delivered when scheduled. I had never done that before and I was renting a Home Depot truck (so time is money!) and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful, even though I had no idea what I was doing. I ordered 10 yds of planter soil for landscaping and my raised beds, I am not sure I received the right soil (they never responded to my email) but if it is, I don't recommend it for raised beds, no matter how much you water, the top 1" gets wet and completely dry under while water runs away. I have veggies in both my old soil and the planter soil, the veggies in the planter soil are dying. I still have a few yds, not sure what I will do with it read more

don't go there, its overpriced and the soil we received was infected!!!! its FAR from being great!! the owner is a total jerk, he will rip you off if given the opportunity. TEST the soil before accepting any of it!! i suggest eastman or any other local place that actually gives you good soil, not recycled dirt the they do not keep clean as they say they do! read more

Just want to thank those whom have left reviews here, and rate this company based on my evaluation of these purchasers experiences, and the lack of responsiveness. I am building a new 5+ raised bed garden and am looking for soil. I found these guys on C.L. and looked here at them. It seems that they are unresponsive to the many reported quality issues with their "Not just soil but, Great soil!" . The last thing I need to do is spend my money, time, and hard work, and seed costs on sickly soil just so my food can die then, lose that season, have to dispose of bad soil, buy again, and do the work again the following season. Thanks, for saving MY garden. It seems, people whom used their soil for landscaping are not as regularly unhappy aside from "Hydrphobic" issues. I have been here 2 years in a row for planter box soil. The first year I thought my gardening skills were not very good because my vegetables did not grow well. I worked very hard to mix in better soil and eventually grew some ok vegetables. This year I have gone back for more and now I can confirm. The soil for planter boxes they sell is very poor for growing. It is not me. I did a test and grew in two different containers using their soil and some of my own mix of previous year composted materials and home depot bag soils. I will not be going back for more Greatsoil. It may be a good option for growing grass or other plants but definitely not for vegetables. read more

Fantastic soil no love their nitro shavings. It's really restoring our dead dirt and makes our plants grow well. They have a great selection of soils and ground covers. We use their soil in all our garden boxes. Loading is easy and I've had a great experience every time I've ordered. They have also made several large load drops for us over ten yards of local DG. Their driver has been on time and negotiates the drops perfectly where I wanted them. Very skilled drivers. Their local DG is a great natural color making our garden paths attractive and good in all weather. read more

I am a licensed landscape contractor with 17 years experience. The topsoil available at Great Soils is by far superior to any other soil available in San Diego county. There is nothing that comes even close. If you're not using this topsoil, you are wasting your money. Your plants will have explosive growth. I can not over emphasize how much better your plants will grow! read more

This place has bio sludge completely not what I expected super heavy nothing light about the indoor light mix. Stuff is basically mud holds alot of water. I went to cut a corner from using happy frog and this really was a horrible decision. I might lose everything if I don't transplant asap. I do not recommend any soil from here. read more

There product is great but the prices are a little to high and also they don't always give you the correct amount. We have used them for our customers but you have to keep a look at when they scoop the product into your truck or trailer to make sure you are given what you pay for. read more

Great spot to get graden soil, fill dirt, palm mix, or crushed rock in bulk, Way, way, way, WAY!!! cheaper then home depot. Just pull up, pay the nice lady and they'll wave your truck or trailer loaded in no time. Only downside about this place is that in kinda smells like manure, lol read more
