Alert! Read and understand your nursery guarantee prior to purchase. I normally review nursery guarantees and warranties for plant survival prior to purchase, since most reputable garden nurseries offer a replacement or store credit within a 30-90-day window. I failed at doing so during my latest purchase. My plants died within a three--week window, even though I followed specific watering, soil and sun requirements for every plant. I called to request replacements or credit, but was denied--blame was on me for not taking care of the plants. I won't support nor recommend this nursery. read more

A lush nursery that offers some great plant options and in some cases, very good prices. Prepare to spend an hour here walking around and purchasing plants. This is not a huge nursery but there are plenty of things to look at. A bit of everything is how I'd describe the selection. - There have been some reviews mentioning that the owner maddogs customers.. I can say that when I visited here there were two gay guys shopping and she was all over them like flies on a food-waste trash bin. Perhaps that was more of a selling opportunity because they were buying a lot of expensive plants. - Watch out for their driveway if this is your first visit. It sneakes up on you real quick and people drive fast down this road. - Besides the owner, not really anyone here to help with questions. read more

Very Greedy, complexed owner. Love cash, but still charges taxes. Higher than other nurseries to begin with and they will also charge you more if you pay CC. I had some time before work & have been dying to get some plants for purifying the air in my living spaces. I googled just a bout a billion nurseries near me & chose this one. I absolutely fell in love with the place. Went in with my little notebook, perused through the isles of pots & planters. Asked a few questions & walked away with a Mexican mint plant & a money tree! I've been wanting a money tree for months now & haven't came across one until now! I was so happy I had to get it. The staff is so nice and they are around to help when you need it but also don't make you feel pressure when you want to take some time meandering. I'm lowering my rating because I get harassed by the owner lady when I come here. She's so worried that people are going to steal her plants that she stares and watches your every move. One time I went here, I'd stopped by a nearby farmstand and gotten some lettuce. It was a hot day, and I didn't want to leave it in my car to wilt, so I carried the plastic grocery around with me. She was watching me and came up to me and accused me of stealing her plants. She wanted to check the bag to see if I had stolen something. I had not stolen anything. I explained to her, but she still kept harassing me. I had to use the restroom, and this lady harassed me in there, too. She walked up to the window and listened to me peeing in the toilet, I guess to harass me. What a creep! The last time I went, I went to use the restroom again, and this lady harassed me again when she saw me going in the bathroom and she tried to open the bathroom door! I don't know what this lady's problem is but she really makes customers feel uncomfortable with her creeping around and accusatory behavior. Another really creepy and disturbing thing about these people is that I think they actually had their dog Julio's ears SEWED ON to his head to make then stand up. This dog's ears hung down when he was a pup, and then they did something to his ears to make them stick up in an unnatural way. Disturbing and unethical! read more

Great service, good selection of plants in all sizes...not just restricted to the large and more expensive 5 gallon plants. Staff is very friendly and willing to give expert advice. I love this nursery! Excellent plant selection, well organized and labeled. Good prices. They have their own growing grounds so stock is constantly rotating to display what's best for the season. If you don't see what you want, ask. They have everything from bedding plants and veggies to boxed trees. Staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I had a boxed tree, plants and soil amendments delivered for a slight fee (minimum purchase). Highly recommend. So nice to do business locally rather than at a big box store. read more

This is the best nursery in Vista. They have a great selection of small plants, vegetables, fruits, vines, shrubs, and trees, including a lot of natives. We our bought grape vines, apricots, pomegranates, and a pluot here over the years! Prices are very fair and the service is great... everyone is knowledgeable and super helpful. If we have guests late in June, I take them to see the lotus blooming in the pond. Absolutely stunning! And right now, their mature trees are blooming and that's well worth the trip. Actually, it's always a pretty place to visit and inspires me to buy plants for our garden. And I don't know who that person is with the weird dog story, but it's just not true... the family that owns this nursery are true dog lovers! A kind and nice family! Good old Ziggy, the german shepherd and official greeter, was at the nursery every day for years and years, always loved and cared for. Love this place and the people! read more

I used to love this nursery, but stopped going after buying milkweed for Monarch butterflies, and the plants killed my caterpillars. This happened this past week, October 2016. I was assured by the nice Mexican man that the milkweed is not treated with pesticides - he said it was over by the water feature to make sure no one sprays it, to ensure it's monarch caterpillar safe. The Caucasian woman in the back office didn't even know this was an issue, so I should have known the staff isn't aware of this big problem (the issue is the declining Monarch butterfly population which is a direct result of common pesticides in plants sold by nurseries and big box stores. Even Lowes/HomeDepot is aware of this issue!). I assume they buy plants that are already treated, and assume if they don't add more pesticides, the plant will be safe. I bought the milkweed understanding it was pollinator safe per the man's assurance. Two dead Monarch caterpillars, one on each plant, say that nursery doesn't know what it's doing to the environment. That's a lot of ignorance for a specialty storefront. If your specialty is plants, maybe you should keep up with plant news. read more

Beautiful nursery very close to home but even if it wasn't I would make the trip. Manuel is always kindly and knowledgable, I consider him a friend. His dog Ziggy, a very sweet and mellow German shepherd, can be found perusing the grounds (my dachshund puppy and Ziggy have become best friends). I enjoy coming here just to surround myself with all the beautiful plant life. Prices are fair, and the quality and service backs that up. Come to Ganter and you will seek no where else! read more

Awesome nursery in north county! Very accessible on the corner of Gopher Canyon and Vista Way. They have a huge variety of plants including succulents, indoor plants, fruit trees, and flowers. They're super helpful with all of the plant info that they give you so you actually know how to take care of the plant so it continues to bloom once you get home. They aren't pushy or try to up-sell which is a big pro for me. read more

These folks are the best. I called to get info on hedges and spoke to Manuel. He gave me great info on the phone and then texted me pictures. I ended up buying 11 Texas Privet hedges over the phone and they delivered them plus soil conditioner that Manuel recommended all contact free. We gambled on the 49 mile drive from our house but we're so glad we did. When we pulled into the gate we were impressed at our beautiful and organized the nursery is. We had a wonderful experience at GANTER NURSERY! From Irene giving us a tour and showing us a large variety of succulents and drought tolerant plants to replace our front lawn. Irene introduced us to her husband Manny who took over the tour to help us find the perfect tangerine tree to plant for our anniversary. The lady who manages the place is awesome. But after spending $800 on plants and half of them died within first 3 weeks I asked the owner to change them out and he refused. I like to support boutiques/ small businesses but I should've stuck with Home Depot at that point. read more
