Went here on a third date with high hopes. We partook in the $5 tasting with a mix of reds and whites. There was absolutely no wine that I was even modestly impressed by. We came to this winery on the wineries and fineries tour. It was going to be our last stop. When we first walked in they looked very annoyed since it was towards the end of the day. We didn't let that bother us. We all received our ornaments. And proceeded to the bar. I had lost my cup at the winery previous to this one and I seen they had extra cups that weren't being used. I had asked the lady if I could just BORROW the cup so I could taste their wines and explained to her that I just lost my cup. She then responded with a nasty attitude and said, "well looks like that's your problem" and then snatched the cups away. My group went on to tasting the wines which were disgusting. My friend let me sip some of hers. The only thing that was nice about this place is the view. I will never ever return to this place again. Only giving it one star for the view. read more

The women who seems to be the co owner is extremely rude doesn't answer any questions about the wine just gives you what ever she feels like to taste. Terrible winery. When we first got there, owners wife had a terrible attitude ( maybe because she is like 70 years old!) The wine tasting was $5 for 5 tastings. Let me tell you, ALL tasted like vinegar. Maybe it's because they have been sitting in a fridge for so long or they just come out tasting like vinegar. The owner gave no info on the wine or any of the flavor notes, just poured just enough for one sip. It has got to be the worst winery I've been to. To taste any of their liquors ( grappa, vodka, etc) it $2 per taste. All in all will not visit again. read more

Bad wine. If you are going winery hopping, just skip this one. As past reviews have said, some wines taste like cough syrup, others like dry crappy wine. They have about 20+ wines to choose from. I feel like they should focus on a few and make them better. read more

Thank god this wasn't our last winery of the day or we would have been left with an AWFUL taste in our mouths. i'm not sure what we tried, but as soon as we walked in, they took our money, and started the tasting, without even asking what we were there for. we had no choice of what we were tasting and im 100% it wasn't wine. each taste needed to be taken like a shot so that we could ignore the taste of each "alcohol". i have NO idea what we drank that day. There was no explanation AT ALL what we were tasting, and the tasting was so rushed, it was 10 min total. I would not recommend this place and I will never go back. Eighth of us went to Demarest Hill Winery in Warwick today. It has beautiful views and grounds. Sadly they had terrible wine and service. The owner who is the wine maker rushed us through the entire tasting. Without sharing much about the wines except the names of each bottle. Ok, they get 5 stars for the scenery, 5 stars for their Peach wine BUT honestly, 0 star for the personality of the owner (elderly gentleman) and 2 for the staff.... Wine tasting, well this is where you get the experience the gruff personality of the owner who seems to prefer customers who look Italian than those who do not, regardless of what they purchase. I would ask all that read all the reviews and think about one thing..... Being kind to others.... Wines taste different based on lot of things... I happen to very much like many of the wines we tasted. The view and the wine were very good in my opinion. I will be back again to buy more and try other things. I recommend this place highly. I wouldn't give this winery any stars. The wine all tasted like pure alcohol and left a horrible after-taste. I think he made these wines 20 years ago and is still trying to pass them off as award winning. The red wine was brown in color and the white wine was dark yellow.The place was dirty, the wine list was sticky and the jar that you put your unwanted wine (which was a lot) was stained and looked liked it had never been washed. Sadly, I am in agreement with many of the others. My main impression, there is such a large variety of wines, liquor, grappa, vinegar, extracts, etc., that too much similarity was evident. There had to be at least 50 different items for sale. The wines were so-so, but both my wife and I sensed some after taste we could only speculate was from the casks used to age. One wine was available in 2 different vintage years, 2005 and 2008. When I inquired which was the better year, the response, they are the same. This is not likely. It was an "ice" wine. Not ice wine as I understand it, where the grapes are allowed to freeze on the vine, but these were picked after the first frost. After I tasted it, I decided I didn't need to worry about the difference, and didn't purchase it. Purchased some vinegars and extracts and a couple of wines, but sadly I doubt I will return for more wine. Didn't have a chance to try the liquors. They did display a number of medals that were one over time, but I would rather go where there are a limited variety of selections, but better quality. The owner was passionate about his products, but it has to be impossible to give each the attention required. read more

Place was disgusting. The counter was dirty and sticky. The man behind the counter was rude and very abrupt. He poured a taste of wine into my glass, which I wasn't interested in. Instead of just pouring the wine in my husband's glass, he threw it out. Would never go back there again. read more

After reading the reviews on here I am glad I didn't read them before going. This winery is on a beautiful hill with amazing scenery! It is run by a sweet Italian couple, with no staff but themselves! The owner is a friendly and knowledgable man. The reviews on here say that it is the worst winery however it is just different. It is old Italian wine and it reminded me of my grandfathers wines at dinner on Sunday's. The wine is not for everyone I will give you that but it is worth the trip if you know your wines. Also if you like to cook they sell the best balsamic vinegar I have ever tasted! My boyfriend also bought a bottle of vanilla for his mom. This is not a commercial stop but if you are looking to relax and enjoy a nice Italian wine, this is the place! read more

Read the reviews. They are all true. The people are unwelcoming and unfriendly. They won't make eye contact or initiate conversation. By the way, the wine is horrible. There is some terrible chemical medicinal essence to the wine that makes it undrinkable. It is also highly acidic and sour. The distilled stuff is acceptable but overpriced. read more

My first time there after visiting many other wineries in the area. $5 gets you a wine tasting with 7 different wines. Liquors and cordiales are $2 each a tasting. The young man who did the tasting was very informed and professional. He asked me my wine preferences. I told him and he had me the pick ones that grabbbed my attention from the list, then I had him surprise me with the other 4. The Black pearl and the Red Bouchet I thought were the 2 best reds( I dont drink whites) I tried and the liquors are quite good. I wouldve bought a lot more if they accepted debit cards, In the end I bought just the Applejack when I wanted 4 bottles. read more

A place like Demarest Hill is the reason why Yelp was created. This was by far the wost wine/substance you will ever drink! So if you can stomach it this place is a great one to go for an awesome story for your friends and colleagues. Friend/Colleague: "What did you do this weekend?" Me "I drank the worst wine/substance ever created!" ...story ensues. Upon first glance it was something out of a horror film. You arrive at the destination after driving past a rusted out basketball hoop and seeing hedges trimmed into various random shapes. My husband wanted to turn around but my friend and I were eager to try some wine. There was a person passed out on a chair on the lawn (I thought the wine must be great assuming it was a customer though after our tasting we found out it was the owners wife or relative). The winery is at a house that is straight out of the 70's, arriving into the tasting room i feel as if i may end up chopped up in the wine barrels in the basement, it is dark and smells of mildew. There were 2 cars in the driveway and all of the current customers are exiting when we arrive. We are a bit scared as our husbands stay outside on the patio with our puppy so upon encouragement from the proprietor we do a tasting of 7 wines. Francesco was not a happy man the day we were there. He was yelling at a young woman when we arrived about not being able to wash her glass for her and that she would have to do it in the bathroom. Needless to say we should have just walked out but we followed through with the tasting. The tasting was honestly the worst thing I have ever experienced. The first wine was the "Chardonnay Supreme". As the liquid (this is not wine) first hit my mouth i tasted a formaldehyde/acid/vinegar substance. My friend and I looked at each other with the faces of disgust but did not say anything, the owner said "This is best seller". We smiled and I thought "oh that bottle must have gone bad" Boy was I wrong. He poured glass after glass and I poured it down my throat hoping it was the last of these horrid substances that were in no way wine. My friend tried pouring a glass in what she thought was the spittoon as she could not stomach it. The owner slapped her hand away and mumbled it was a tip/donation jar. I was laughing so hard on the inside the rancid wine almost came out my nose. Each glass got worse and worse and after 4 whites he poured the first red. All i could think is that it was made of the decomposed bodies he stored in his basement. By the power of god a group of geriatric customers came in at that time. It was our chance, we tip-toed out while the 90 year old in the wheel chair knocked over something and diverted the owner's attention. However i had downed 5 large tastings of this god knows what substance. We got our husbands from the overgrown patio and took off laughing and I was from sober to drunk in all of 10 minutes from the crap i drank. Eventually the stuff made me vomit. Who knows what was in those glasses but I have been to many wineries and surely that was not wine. read more

If you want to feel at home and enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy the beauty of the vineyard- get yourself here. So today is a Tuesday..I drove to this winery because I'm in the area for work and had some free time and wanted to try some NY wineries (I'm from PA). The tasting room was dark and no one was there but it said to "ring the bell for service," so I did. A few minutes lady an older woman comes from the connecting house and let's me in. She then says "what do you want?" I say " would like to do a tasting," she says "that's $5." I went on the website before and there is no mention that you must have cash to do a tasting, and I only had my credit card. I ask her if I can use my card and she tells me "no." So I said "then I guess I can't do a tasting," and she goes "oh ok" and walks me out. I could have bought wine from them, I could have been their only customer for the whole day but with terrible service like that I am happy that I am not! This place was a little off. The winemaker had his underage (I know b/c she asked me where I went to college, and told me that she was applying that year) granddaughter/niece/whatever pouring our wine in the tasting room. She knew nothing, didn't allow time for us to taste, couldn't answer questions about production and flavor, never offered us new glasses, or washed them out. To boot, the wine was bad. We bought balsamic vinegar that was bad, too. Don't waste your time. Actually, the view is great, so waste time for that - but not the winery. read more

I wasn't going to write a review because I thought it would just be a waste with all the terrible reviews accurately describing this place. But seeing Missy's review it made me mad that they were trying to trick people. I can only assume Missy's motivations for being a shill I would guess she is related to the owner. I understand family solidarity but it isn't right for a business to influence these reviews or misrepresent. Otherwise why would she plead with you to go. If business or a product is good and has value then you don't need to beg people to try it. This place is flat out the worst wine I have ever had and every bad review is completely accurate. I would give this place zero stars if I could as they rip people off. Recently my wife visited this winery and joined a tasting that was just getting started with 5 other people. A tasting cost $5 per person. The tasting itself was ok, although the wines were not all that special. Still she decided to purchase some bottles. When he was ringing her up, he asked in a heavily accented voice what she thought was about paying for her tasting, but then she saw that he rang up $30 instead of $5. When she questioned it and then said no, he very condescendingly said, 'you already agreed to it'. At this point she was so flustered by his pure gall, she made the mistake of actually paying him rather than just walking out, leaving the wine behind. To make matters worse, when one of the men who had been in that tasting helped her carry her purchase to her car, he told her that they had already paid for their own tasting at the start of it. So not only had the criminals that run this place ripped her off to pay for other people's tastings, they double dipped on their ripoff. Stay far away from this place!!!! read more

I've been to many wineries but this particular one is pretentious and overpriced. I owner who was the only attendant behind the counter (short Italian lady) was very rude. My 2 friends and I purchased 7 tastes for $5 per person. The lady said only one person could choose the wine and each of us had to taste the same thing because "you all pick the same wine anyway" even though there were at least 30 wines / liquors to choose from in the sheet in front of us. I was appalled at what she had said as the objective for wine tasting is to sample various wines in the hopes to find one that is palatable to your personal preferences. My friend happens to like the drier red wines whereas I lean more towards the crispier white wines. Nonetheless, she did not give us individual choices even though we each purchased our own tasting. Had we come in separately or stood apart from one another pretending not to know one another, we could have gotten individual choices. The counter was not packed at all, only 3 additional customers sampling the wines. The owner poured the same wine for each of us without so much as a smile. The portions were a lot less than other reputable wineries I have been to. Two glasses could be combined for one person to taste. Objectively speaking, the wines we tasted were not impressive at all. She did not rinse out our glasses, nor did she allow for questions. Perhaps she didn't know anything about the wines. She didn't even offer us pretzels even though the basket that was on the counter only had 2-3 pretzels left. The grounds are nicely kept and the interior had a varied collection, but all were overpriced. Wines were at minimum around $18 for nothing that was special, probably average $25 for a wine. They also had other things such as brandy, coffee liquor, vodka. From what we tasted, you can definitely get a much better wine for about $7-$10 without having to travel far at all. Payments are via cash or check. No credit cards accepted. For the price of their wines and other liquors, if you plan on coming here, you definitely need to make a big withdrawal as everything is overpriced. I recommend skipping this winery and going to the nearby Warwick Valley Winery instead. read more

I honestly cannot believe that this place is even in business! I wish I could give it zero stars. This is absolutely the WORST wine I have ever had. Everything we tried reeked of musty old gym socks and was DEFINITELY spoiled. The experience was just awful - we drove up to find the place empty, door locked and lights off - with the owner asleep in a lawn chair in the yard. He woke up just as we were about to leave and I seriously wish he hadn't. He rushed us through a tasting - we tried about 6-7 wines in less than 5 minutes and weren't told anything about what we were drinking. Everything smelled horrible and off, and it all tasted like moldy vinegar. My fiancée and I went here on a whim while trying out other wineries in the area and we are SO regretting it. Honestly the most disgusting wine we have ever tried. I would NEVER ever go back here. It seems like the owners just up and decided one day that they were going to make wine without any prior experience. A total lack of knowledge about anything related to making wine can be the only explanation to how piss poor this stuff was. Spent the next hour or so afterward trying to wash the awful taste out of our mouths and feeling sick to our stomachs. Both of us ended up being ill, but my fiancées stomach was so upset he wound up vomiting shortly after our tasting - he was trying to be polite and actually finished all of his samples instead of pouring them out. Even some disgusting concoction the owner introduced as 'Mud' - a vile chocolate grappa blend. I cannot even put into words how repulsive the wines are here. I literally felt like I was assaulted, that's how bad the wines were. From the Chard thru the various reds, there was an awful overwhelming nasty flavor I can only explain as kerosene-esque. I've tasted wine that's gone bad and I believe that's best described as tasting like vinegar. This was a whole different animal and I am at a loss how this could be so. To top it all off, we were purposely served flat/old hard cider. How do I know it wasn't an oversight? Well our server informed us beforehand = awesome! If I could give minus stars I would. I was excited to go to this winery because of the sheer volume of wine varietals and spirits they made/offered, thought it was amazing. But the day was cold and we went in to taste, one after another something was weird or off... most of the wine he was pouring i think was semi-corked; all of them had a musty taste to them, even the whites... lots of disjointedness ... and the sherry tasted nothing like I knew... In the end I bought three bottles and hope they are more representative of the winery. Maybe next time they'll cycle out the older wines for fresher bottles. For the love of god-DONT GO HERE! I really wish I had read the reviews before now. I don't understand how they're known for any awards with their funky foot fungus tasting wines, perhaps the Sommeliers were already tipsy from previous wineries b4 coming here. An older lady who I assumed was the wife/owner didn't say a word to me & my friends as we were tasting the wine. Very difficult to stomach the small samples of toxic waste that came from the bottles disguised as wine. I expected strawberry & peach flavor wines to be somewhat sweet & easy to manage, NOPE! STILL GROSS. Not long after we left, my friend had the pleasure of having to taste it again as it was coming back up. We had a great time. The owner is an old gentleman from Italy. He reminded me of my great uncles ... everything was, you try this, you try that, he picked for me and it was a blast. I told him I was a Cider guy, he had me try Apple Cider al Rum, it was awesome. I got that and the Super Sangria ... best I every had. It's not like other places, don't expect a world class salesman, or someone who pretends that they are interested in everything you have to say. After the label was selected by the owner and we delivered the final, he refused to pay for the service and began a vulgar tyrant with women at the bar, customers and told me to get the F@#*! The wine is usual and varied. The liquors are unique. The charm of the proprietor, Francesco, makes it very worth the trip. We let him chose the tasting ($5 a person, 7 wines). I left a $10 tip got 7 wines and 7 to 10 liquors and some wonderful stories. There will be something from his vast array that will appeal to you or amuse you enough that you will want a bottle. 0 STARS! I only gave them 1 star because it was required. My boyfriend and I were looking for wineries in the Warwick area and found this place online. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews first. The sign by the road said "OPEN". The sign by the walkway said "Welcome". We got to the door and it was locked and there were no lights on. The sign at the door said, "Ring bell and walk in". We rang the bell and waited. We were just about to leave and a woman walks out of the house next door with keys to unlock the winery door. She doesn't say, "Hello, how are you?", "Thanks for coming", "Boo", NOTHING!!! We walk in behind her and she just stands behind the bar. We told her we'd like to do a tasting. She asked us what we wanted. I told her what I like and she just poured a few, not telling us anything about the wine. My boyfriend tried to make conversation with her, but she just acted like we were bothering her and taking up her time. The wine is HORRIBLE. It tasted like vinegar that had been sitting open for weeks. It's such a shame. It's a GEORGOUS view from there. A real winery with people that had a personality would make a killing there!! I usually always walk away with a bottle of wine, but this place I had no problem leaving empty handed. We did have a good laugh talking about the "little Italian troll" on the way to the next winery! haha read more
