-1st Visit to Ocean Vineyards was almost 3 years ago. The tasting room was a small housing area in the back with outdoor table and chairs. At that time, the flights were served in "glasses" as they should be. Please see attached photos. -7/4/25 (2nd Visit) We came for the Fourth of July holiday. When we arrived at the winery, we noticed the winery appeared to be much larger. Later, we realized that this was an addition to the original tasting room. We came to the counter. I asked if they had wine flights. The young woman informed me that 4 tastings were $20 and 6 for $30. She was absolutely delightful. So we chose the 6 for $30. This flight was given to us in "plastic containers". I'd like to say that there were quite a few people in the winery. However, I noticed that they didn't order flights. That being said, I think they could've taken the time out to have the flights in glasses. After ther flight, I ordered a "glass"of the Traminette $10. It was served in plastic cup. I did mention to the server that it should be in a "wine glass". She poured the wine from the plastic cup into the glass. (At this point, the plastic negatively affects wine by altering its taste, aroma, and overall quality). I'm sure "management" has given instructions to their employees on how to serve wine flights etc... So I'm not faulting the servers. During our visit, we shared a chicken sandwich. It was very good. All the servers behind the counter were very courteous and sweet. My issue is with the management. I don't know what happened from a couple years ago to now, maybe management change? My photos from almost 3 years ago, show the flight served in glasses, not plastic. Anyway, we did have a very nice visit despite the issue with the plastic. The grounds of the vineyards are very nice to walk about. We did walk back to the original wine tasting building. It was totally refurbished from our original visit. A large picturesque tree stump parking lot is in front of the winery. Oceane Vineyards has a lot of wonderful potential. Some of their wines we thought were good. In fact, we purchased a very nice bottle of 2017 Riesling $30.00. I would've given the winery a higher score, if the flight and glass of wine weren't in plastic. read more

Chester, NY - we were here over Mother's Day weekend and enjoyed such a lovely afternoon! The estate is sprawling, with sweeping lawns, a spacious brewery & restaurant housed inside a beautiful converted stable, a tasting room, and of course, vineyards. The tasting room is easy to miss as it's in a house in the back, and felt like we stumbled upon a hidden gem as most people were out by the barn. We arrived before sunset and enjoyed sipping on a flight of 6 wines while watching the sun go down. The views are scenic and serene...one can imagine almost being transported to the hills of Italy. As it was the cusp of twilight, what was really neat was that we got to see the sunset on one side and the moonrise on the other. For our flight, we tried the following wines: Whites: 1. NY Hibernette 2. Cali Chardonnay 3. Riesling Reds: 1. California Rosé 2. California Pinot Noir 3. Cali Cabernet Sauvignon The rosé was probably my favorite, so clear and fragrant, and we took a bottle home. John who I think is the manager (guy with shaved head and goatee) was very personable and came by to check on the customers and chat, and told us a bit about the history of the place. The property is 200 acres and is a passionate project of the owner Tom. There is lots of space for littles to run around and explore, with some games and toys set out for kids. The atmosphere is relaxed but lively, and there was a band playing. The rustic aesthetic of the barn is very cool, with several stalls to hang out in if you wanted to retreat to a more private space, and an event hall upstairs. We got nibblish toward the end of the evening and the kitchen was about to close, but they were kind to still take the orders of a couple of late stragglers like us. The food is typical bar fare, good enough for sopping up alcohol. Staff were all kind, welcoming, and accommodating. 5 stars for the fantastic atmosphere, hospitality, and experience. We celebrated Mother's Day on our own schedule this year and did it at Oceane Vineyards! The property is huge - it has the vineyard & tasting room as well as a brewery on site. The brewery boasts outdoor and indoor seating featuring local beers. You can even sit and enjoy your drink in the decorated horse stables. We came for the wine tasting so we had to walk around to the back of the property to the little house. The decor was very cute and rustic. Loved the cow bar stools. I tried a flight of 6 wines which was $30 along with a bunch of appetizers to share. For those who don't drink wine, the tasting room also offers 2 beer options, a few ciders and a canned mojito. In the ocean vineyards are your treat in the remote town of Chester. This is the Kings Highway area towards Warwick. Ambience is nice. Live music, beautiful stables converted to sitting area service is very nice. Ladies are very pleasant. They have a flight of wine. Now let's talk wine. $30 for 6 tastings or $20 for 4 tastings. They also have sangria tastings. And they have beer too. They have a very interesting Chardonnay selection... for me who do not like Chardonnay, I really liked theirs. Their NY Chardonnay is a little orange... very interesting. Their Cali Chardonnay is really good, taste a bit more like a Sauvignon blanc. They also have a hibernel and another white that is different from wines that I have tried. They loved our dog and our dog loved them! (And their treats!) Also wanted to point out that it looks bigger than what most pictures show you. So just call ahead. read more

Very dog friendly place with lots to do. They have a tasting room that's actually an outdoor and indoor space that serves delicious thin crust pizza and yummy apps. The 6 of us shared two plain personal pies, a pretzel with cheese and spicy mustard, and the big charcuterie and cheese board. They brought out a water bowl for our puppy and gave her very well received pets and treats. The wine tastings were great and very reasonably priced. We basically got to try all the wines on the menu. The sangria flight was also very good, but be careful they'll sneak up on you. After the tasting room, head to their tap room for some beers (or more glasses of wine). The only difference is that they can't do wine flights. On the way, don't forget to say hi to the chickens. There is one friendly one that will always stay back to hang out. They had live music and a nice outdoor space here. read more

The female worker in the tasting room is horrible!! Not sure if she's the manager but she threw the menus at us and never came back. Walked by us and wouldn't even look at our table, never acknowledged us the entire time we were here. Maybe we weren't the right color skin for her liking. I've driven by this vineyard many times but only today decided to stop by. In short it's a nice hidden gem with great views and good wines. Its a quaint little place surrounded by tranquil views and lots of greenery. The staff was also very friendly. The vineyard itself is on an old farm and some of the buildings around the tasting room need some TLC. But it does seem like they are in the process of giving the site a facelift but regardless it's a nice place that's worth stopping by. read more

It's not you're average vineyard. It's very low key. Seems like under new ownership and they're just doing the best with what they have. They don't have wine tasting flights. The wine is good and worth trying. The pizza is also good. We had the cheese board as well. It wasn't bad. I wouldn't say it's good for groups at least not yet. Because there is limited seating if it gets packed. They do take cash and credit/debit cards. Overall, this is decent spot. But compared to other established vineyards that I've been to, don't come here with high expectations. Overall, i would still recommend people to come here with an open mind. read more

Bummed out!! That is the best term to describe this review and my mood yesterday. As I mentioned in my previous review, I make a point to stop here when in the area. My first time here, it was a Saturday and the place was packed. There was a guitar player on the deck and it was a lovely afternoon. Returned last year, also on Saturdays to find the management had changed, but there was a decent amount of people milling about. Was in the area yesterday for the Sugar Loaf festival just down the road and made a point to stop for a bottle of wine to take home. Was planning on hanging out a bit too with a glass and take in the serene view. Drove in after seeing a large amount of signage advertising wine tasting. The parking area was barren, which made us question if they were even open. Walked up to the tasting room.....door was unlocked and no one was present. Walked around a bit, saw no one. Started to feel a bit like a trespasser. As we were walking out, a girl appeared. Given the creepy vibe that permeated through the place, we decided not to stay but to just grab a bottle and leave. The girl working there was nice but when we went to pay, she asked us for cash when I wanted to use my card. I was looking right at a Square terminal and there was signage on the door indicating they took cards. Thankfully we were able to dig up some cash, but it was inconvenient. I think given the amount of signage they have at the end of the driveway trying to get people to come in, the fact this place was EMPTY at 3pm on a lovely spring Saturday with traffic from a festival happening a mile down the road speaks volumes. I'm hoping the wine is just as good as I remember with the bottle I bought, but I will not be returning after my experience yesterday. I'm sad because I have been a fan of this place for years but it's really gone downhill. ** Update 07/2017: The wine was awful. Not what I remember at all. SO disappointed. Good wine & GREAT views! We were driving along Kings Hwy and randomly stopped in when we saw the sign for wine tasting. We walked in to what literally was a house converted into a tasting room which was really interesting. They have an amazing patio with seating that overlooks some great views. Inside there is a piano, music playing, darts, and a few seats. Glasses of wines are about $5-$6 and tastings are $6 (I believe) for all their wines. They have about 4-5 whites and 3 reds. I normally like reds but found myself leaning more towards their white wines. Most of them were on the dry side, which is what I prefer. I think it's because they had their red chilled which I don't really care for. I like my reds room temperature. This is a great place to stop by and try some new wines if you're in the area. read more

Cliche though it may sound, Oceane vineyards is a true, genuine Hidden Gem; by far the most delightful detour a person can take from the well-trodden and often crowded Shawangunk Wine Trail. Located on King's Highway not far from the town of Sugar Loaf, Oceane Vineyards is an unassuming little place that is all too easily missed. My wife and I were drawn in by a simple "Wine Tastings" banner at the end of the drive, though the owner mentioned that they don't always put the banner out front. As we made out way up the drive, we occasionally doubted whether it was open at all. The tasting room itself is located in a small ranch house, and tourists accustomed to the more lavish facilities in the area may find themselves harboring some doubts. Vanquish those doubts from your mind. Inside, you will find a tasting bar and several bistro tables. A set of sliding patio doors at the back of the tasting room lead to a deck with a truly breathtaking (another word that has become cliched through indiscriminate overuse) view of the valley. The wines they have on offer are as diverse as they are delicious. Mostly light bodied and on the drier side these largely French style wines are among the absolute best that we sampled in the area. In fact, of the 4 or 5 vineyards and wineries that we visited on our excursion, Oceane was the only place where we ended up buying wine rather than cider or spirits. The staff was friendly, helpful, and informative. Walking through the flight of 10 wines (5 white and 5 red), we were given just the right amount of background on the varietals and blends to know what to expect, while still being free to make up our own minds with regard to tasting notes. Our visit was further enhanced by the unassuming presence of one of the vineyards owners who provided an impromptu tour of the production room, and shared some of the history of the vineyard. Oceane is one of the few wineries in the area where the focus is still exclusively on the wine. It is a small operation fueled by an obvious passion for winemaking, and that joie de vivre (or joie de vin) comes through in the wines that they offer. read more

Discovered this gem on my way to friends in Sugar Loaf. It is part of a very old farm house going back to the 1700's. A very rural setting with wonderful views from both the front of the house and the deck of the Tasting Room. The tasting room is very intimate and cozy, the staff were very knowledgeable about wine and friendly too. I tried the Riesling, and could not help myself bought several bottles to take to friends who agreed the best they ever had. Went back a few weeks ago and was sorry to see closed during the week, I should be up there again on a weekend so I hope they will be open again soon. read more
