We stopped by for some late night bites on the way home from my brothers house. Great location and pretty easy to get to so it was a quick off the freeway and back for us. We placed a mobile order (that's where all the best deals are nowadays) and picked up through the drive thru. It was around 11:30PM and there were a few cars in front of us but the staff was great and got everyone through quickly. Our food was tasty, fresh and super hot. From the window we could see the store had plenty if seating and looked a bit festive for the holidays. This was without a doubt one of the worst fast food experiences I have ever had. The drive through took over 20 minutes with only two cars total and that is beyond ridiculous. When I finally got my food, not only was it late, but most of my order was completely wrong even though the receipt clearly showed the correct items. How do you mess that up? The fries were an absolute joke. They were soggy, mushy, cold, and had not a single grain of salt. The rest of the food was just as pathetic. It was soggy, bland, and so poorly prepared that it was basically inedible. Nothing about this meal showed any care or effort. Slow service, the wrong order despite the receipt being correct, and food so bad I could not even eat it made this visit a complete failure from start to finish. Thanks to Del Taco, I'm no longer addicted to fast food! I would give 3 stars for this, but minus 2 stars because the burrito made me sick. Their new chicken chipotle burrito really looked bomb on the commercial, all nice and wet and juicy af with sauce oozing out. However, when I got the thing, I was met with the driest and nastiest chicken burrito I've ever had in my entire life. Dry, weird taste, hardened and stale bread. I didn't get to eat my other items because this was so disgusting. Unfortunately for me I got sick a day after eating two or three bites from this and my gas was noticeably more rancid for the next two weeks with some stomach pains and other things I won't describe here. I then got sick with the flu which made it 10x worse. Happy I'm no longer addicted to fast food but I wish I didn't have to learn this way. It's cold, insanely small portions, and they always get the order wrong. I once ordered some tacos for my daughter, and they all literally came with a sprinkle of meat and cheese in it, then looked like it was thrown onto a paper and then thrown into the bag. People, if you don't care about your job and what food or service you are putting out there, then find something else. DT is fast food that's better than most other FF places. Why? 1. Choices: a lot of different and delicious choices that are interesting and flavorful but not "gimmicks" like many items at the ubiquitous national taco chain. 2. I have been a fan of Del Taco since the 1970s when my only choice was the Costa Mesa restaurant off Bristol. I moved to Northwood in 2003 and have been visiting the Irvine Blvd restaurant since. I have mixed emotions, because they discontinued the Purple Poppers drink thing they had here. I ordered it every day, but whatever. They always have good deals, late hours (I show up at midnight) and every time I order here (drive thru) it's been quick and accurate. The only time it wasn't accurate, I actually liked it (I didn't think I'd like sour cream). The workers here are great, they all speak clearly and seem upbeat. It's usually not the case, but I've had no problem with the workers here. It's not like Jack in the Box where they ask you if you want a Yumbo Yack, or Mc Donalds where they speak Spanish and treat you like a second-class citizen because they landed a shitty job. I started going to the restaurant to get their breakfast burritos since these restaurants open 24 hours. The new menu item by Mr. Trejo, is now introduced as 'Al Pastor'. You can order Tacos, quesadillas, Epic burritos and my new favorite , the street tacos. It's very tasty, juicy and tender pork with small pineapple pieces, onions and cilantros. Love it! Been coming here for years because it's close to my house. Usually I get a plain bean burrito and their occasional screw up involves putting cheese in there when I specifically say NO CHEESE. (I'm lactose intolerant) Today, I asked for a BEYOND MEAT Cali burrito, drive home and bite into it only to find out it's steak! Wtf! I'm a vegetarian and haven't eaten meat in years, so naturally I'm absolutely disgusted. I drive all the way back, ask for a new burrito. No apologies or anything from any of the staff. They don't refund my burrito even though it's their mistake. Still, no apology from anyone. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. If you're going to offer vegan or vegetarian options, make sure you get it right! I don't think I'll be coming here again for quick fast food. I can't trust this place anymore. I could deal with them screwing up my bean burrito every so often, but I'm not okay with "accidentally" giving someone a meat product when they don't eat meat. That's not okay. As I was eating my meal inside the restaurant, a young couple came in to request a refund for their order that they placed before I arrived. They wanted their items refunded and then they requested that their order be redone for free. The reason was because there was a strand of hair in their burrito. At first, I thought the request was a bit unreasonable. Either you get a refund or a new order, but not both. The server behind the counter offered them a new order, but not a refund. The couple insisted on both because they were inconvenienced. They spent several minutes arguing their case. Quite frankly, I would've taken the money and left. I would've visited a neighboring Del Taco location. Anyway, the store manager got involved and told them that they would not be granted a refund. The manager also refused to make the food again. He even took the burrito that they paid for and refused to give it back. He tried to give them a number for them to call the main manager in the morning. What pissed me off was that he was using Jedi mind tricks to undermine their legitimate claims. At one point, he even threatened to call the police if they complained to the drivers waiting in the drive-thru. Mind you, the order amounted to about $10. Is this really worth the trouble for the manager? I decided to involve myself in the argument. I let the Del Taco staff have it in both English and Spanish. I told the manager that he should either give them back their money or redo their order. I warned him that if he didn't do that I would contact the corporate office on the couple's behalf since I witnessed the entire incident. I was incredibly angry and it wasn't even my food. The manager returned the money but tried to hang on to the receipt. Once again, I intervened and informed the manager that they have the right to keep the receipt for their records. The couple got their money back and left. Meanwhile, I stayed behind to finish my meal -- and write this negative review. You better believe that I will contact their corporate office, which is located in Lake Forest. Hopefully, this negative review will inspire them to retrain "Luis," the unethical manager who tried to scam the couple. Maybe it will also inspire them to clean up their dining area. I have come here late at night only to find that the employees decided to close 45 minutes early. If this had only happened once, sure, I could accept that maybe it was for a good reason. Avoid this Del Taco like the plague. The manager is extremely hostile and almost combative if you complain about anything at all or ask for anything out of the ordinary. It's a shame I didn't catch his name but he's a shorter Hispanic guy with a thick accent. I feel sorry for his employees who have to work for him. He yells at customers and becomes confrontational so I can't imagine how he's like with his employees. Also his hygiene is questionable at best. During my visit, I saw him touch his headset, handle cash and touch shared surfaces with the same hand he was using to handle food.
