I got a carry out the young man at the register wasn't very friendly but my order was correct so I guess I wont complain. I had the pick three meats and two sides. This is the first time I have been disappointed when eating at Deet's. I ordered the chopped salad and in the past the salad had garbanzo beans and cornbread croutons - this time neither item was included. Our salads were brought to our table in a bag even though we're said we were dining in and there wasn't and utensils or napkins provided. My biggest disappointment, I was told Deet's no longer honors a 50% discount when wearing a Deet's t-shirt. What happened to Deet's? They are such sweethearts here. I do have to say that I'm not really a barbecue fan but it was the weekend of 4th of July and my baby wanted some barbecue. Thought I was ordering from the food truck but accidentally ordered it from the store that's here in Maumee, Ohio.. When I called to confirm they were sweet as pie. No prob ma'am. Gotten bbq to go twice now and to be honest, it's what I consider to be acceptable bbq. Having eaten all over the country I appreciate the things they do well (smoked wings, bbq chicken breast, decent ribs) but also notice things not so great (fatty brisket that's really unacceptable by most standards). I'm also somewhat confused by the menu offerings and can't understand why the bbq chicken breast isn't available to be ordered unless you get the personal sampler. Another annoyance is the nickel and diming such as charging for side substitutions when ordering the sampler (all the regular sides are the same price) and most of all, wanting to charge for an extra to go sauce (same sauce just sitting on all tables if you dine in, which you can just put more in your to go box). May go back if I'm craving bbq while in town, wouldn't lose sleep if I never had it again either. read more

We ordered through Yelp (how convenient!) and had our order delivered by Grub Hub. I was particularly impressed with how quickly our order arrived. We ordered a "platter" with pulled pork, salad, and a vegetable side. I didn't try it myself but it was reported to be quite good, and judging from how quickly it disappeared, I would think the report is true. I ordered chicken with sweet sauce. The sauce is a bit tangy (it is a barbeque restaurant, after all) but overall sweet. My weak taste buds not only tolerated the sauce but enjoyed it. Deet's isn't much on atmosphere, and it's located in a strip mall, but as you probably know, in T-Town, the fact that a restaurant is located in a strip mall tells you next to nothing about how good the food is. This is a great little family owned BBQ joint. When you walk in, the first thing you'll notice is that the place smells like a smokehouse. That's always a great way to start any BBQ dining experience. The next thing you notice is that the staff is ULTRA friendly and helpful; they really know their product. The service, for a BBQ place that grills each order individually (but, obviously, smokes the meat ahead of time), is certainly fast enough; it's great for takeout. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS: The quality of the food is just a little inconsistent. When Deet's is on, it could very well be the best BBQ place in Toledo. And when it's off, it's still pretty damn good. They have a sweet sauce and a spicy sauce (and they can mix them for you in any ratio that you desire). The spicy is not too hot, but it has a little bite, and it's nice and tangy. Their signature item, in my opinion, is the "Big Pete" sandwich. It's half beef brisket and half pulled pork. It tastes great and most people will find it filling. The chicken breast sandwich is the most healthy option and it's also great. The ribs (1/2 slab for 10 bucks) are usually really good, BUT, this is where Deet's inconsistency is most evident. Sometime the ribs are cooked perfectly and the meat falls of the bone, and sometimes they aren't so perfect. Even if they're not cooked perfectly, they've always tasted great. My only other complaint is that the beef brisket is a little too fatty for my taste. If I lived on this side of town, Deet's would be my go to place for BBQ. Great (usually) but somewhat inconsistent food earns Deet's 4 stars. read more

With about 4 of those badass corn muffins served with melted butter. 2. Chicken. A nice, thick, juicy portion of chicken slathered with the same sauce. I would also return for this. 3. Pulled Pork. The pulled pork was pretty good, but it didn't win my heart for whatever reason. No sauce...not sure if it wasn't supposed to have sauce but mine did not. Ribs = rock star! Sides = reason why this place is not 5 star. O.M.G...those ribs were friggin' awesome! Smoked to perfection and still required some "chew" to get them off the bone...cannot get more "textbook" than that. to top it off, there is very little sauce applied out of the kitchen, just mostly their rub which once again shows you they are letting the meat shine through and not covering things up with loads of sauce. I chose the baked beans as a side, and although they were good, they were not rock star good. Also had a cornbread muffin (gal behind the counter talked me into it)...and although I'm not a huge cornbread fan this one was pretty good and moist to boot. Lastly, they carry some locally brewed root beer on their fountain tap (sorry I cannot remember the name), but it was really good so we took some "for the road". The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming - the atmosphere was pleasant and seemed very clean. We were served the food very quickly. As noted above, we ordered the "Big Pete" sandwich (Boyfriend's name is Peter...so, we had to), and the pulled pork sandwich . For sides we each ordered the curly Mac and cheese. The food was cold and had absolutely no flavor at all. I was born and raised in the south and I'm not gonna sit here and act like i know all about proper BBQ because i don't but Deets knows nothing about it at all. Shouldn't mix the lettuce, jalapeño, and onion for the nachos. Should come separately so that way it can be asked for without. Chips were stale and honestly the worst kind of chip for nachos. This used to be my favorite spot for ribs until yesterday! We have not gotten carryout from here in about 9 months so we were really looking forward to it however we were very disappointed! Hubs brought home a rack of ribs for dinner last night and they were awful. So much fat that we had to throw away most of the ribs! Finally! GOOD RIBS! They're actually really slow smoked, not just advertised as smoked. These ribs are good, good, good The wings are big and also smoked right. The chopped salad is perfect, the tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots are cubed do they mixed into the salad perfectly. The salad needs something, though.
