Tried Smoke House 419 , first time since it changed hands and pleasantly surprised! The interior is basically the same as previously, with some big screen TV screens on walls. We seated quickly seated and our drinks was taken quickly by a pleasant and friendly server. Nice menu with many BBQ items and some nice alternatives too. My wife had the rack of ribs and said it was among the best she has had in Toledo, I had the Pick 3 Special, a bowl of Gumbo ( spicy and very good ) a pulled chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich ( again very good) and some really nicely done French Fries... all in all worth try , tasty food and good service... read more

The food isn't bad... But it's also not great. It could have been bthere was just a little bit of something off with almost everything. Damn near a hit. if they could just get the kitchen together regarding temperature and consistency. They would be slaying. Let's talk about what is good... The environment. It just feels like a place you want to sit down and eat a rack of ribs. It's clean, modern, and inviting. It is cool to see what they have done with the old black pearl. Our waitress was excellent! She was fast, attentive, and warm. I can't speak enough about the service. From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, we were truly waited on. We had drinks, we had our food extremely fast, and even when there was an issue with our meal, the manager came right over. (I didn't ask, the waitress brought her over when she noticed our untouched ribs and potato) If our food had been as warm as our staff, they would probably be sitting on closer to five stars Let's talk about the gumbo. The flavor was great! However, the rice inside of it was severely undercooked. It was crunchy in places. Some of it was cooked, however, there were multiple clumps of uncooked (I can't even call it undercooked) rice. And it wasn't hot. My husband can eat piping hot food, I am talking about tea right out of the kettle... But I am not so fortunate. I started to blow on the soup and he laughed at me and said it wouldn't be necessary. To be fair, it was his gumbo, but he was right. It wasn't hot. It was barely a notch above warm, which makes me concerned about things like foodborne illness. But because the sausage, the chicken, and the roux were so damn good. I ate around it and decided to risk it. Next out, the ribs and brisket combo and my husband's wings. The wings were great. Zero notes except they flew off the bone into my husband's mouth faster than I could even get to my food. The brisket wasn't hot, but I don't expect it to be after it's rested so I will give that a free pass. My baked potato couldn't melt the butter. I also gave that a free pass since I planned on taking it home. But when I dug into my ribs, they were cold. And I don't mean warm, I mean cold. The surface was warm but by the bone was like they were out of the refrigerator. They had a decent flavor, but when ribs are that cold, they are a bit tough. Our waitress brought out a fresh rack, but by then I had already eaten my way through half of my husband soup, part of his meal, and my brisket so I ate one knuckle and took the rest home. I would come back for the atmosphere, the wait staff, and the flavor... But I hope execution gets cleaned up because I probably wouldn't come back a third time if I had a similar experience. I love eating local, and I hope they have a better run than the black pearl. The portions are generous, the pricing is more than fair. They do a lot of daily and happy hour as well as late night specials. Also, when I go to a barbecue spot, I want a bread option. I know this is me being a spoiled carb princess... But nothing sets me up for a good meal like some cornbread or dinner rolls. Lastly, I hope they end up bottling and selling some of their sauces locally. I highly recommend to get any beef or brisket, this is probably their best speciality. Their salads are with ice berg lettuce which doesn't complement their other salad toppings. My hubby and I stopped for lunch at smokehouse 419. Our waitress Heather was very good. Friendly & attentive. I ordered the soup & salad. The salad was fresh! It came with egg, bacon, cheese, tomato and cucumber Now that's a nice side salad! The tortilla soup was amazing Full of tender chicken and almost seems like a stew as it was so hearty. My hubby had the fish sandwich and mac and cheese. Plenty of fish! He loved the Mac n cheese. The ambience was very nice. Music was playing in background that was very enjoyable. Not gonna lie, I was disappointed. I ordered a kids pulled pork sandwich for my daughter. I understand kids dishes are supposed to be small but her sandwich was half the size of the palm of my hand for $8. She was still hungry afterwards. I ordered a brisket Philly. The flavor was good but brisket isn't supposed to be both hard to chew and crunch. A common problem both my daughter and I had with our sandwiches was the buns were soaked with grease. Work in progress. I can't wait to come back a few more times and hopefully update this review. First of all what they have done to the inside is very nice and a very nice tribute to the 419 AKA Toledo Ohio. I have never been to the other location in Michigan so I don't have much to compare it to. As you come in there's a please wait to be seated sign with a bar area to the right. They were going to seat us in that area but as soon as you walked in there I felt like I was sitting outside. I don't know if it's the heating system or what it was but it wasn't really crazy cold out so I'm not sure why it's so chilly in there. Once we got moved to a booth in the interior all was good. We had a very nice and friendly server with a lot of energy. I wish she had told me her name because she did an excellent job for the most part. I ordered a glass of house wine and looked over the late night happy hour menu which kind of sucks but the house wine was okay. I ordered some gumbo with a side of cornbread to start and smoked wings. The gumbo came out piping hot but without the cornbread so had to request that again. A small saucer of cornbread came out that was ice cold. I'm not exaggerating. It felt like it had been taken directly from the refrigerator and placed on the plate. This to me is just lazy because all you have to do is just nuke it for a few seconds to even bring it down to room temperature. The cornbread came with some tasty honey butter but how is that going to melt on something that's ice cold? So that kind of messed up my gumbo experience. The smoked chicken wings are a sharable portion that is enough for an entree to me. I wouldn't get again only because I didn't find any of bbq sauces to my liking. I ordered the barbecue chicken pizza because I had read a few Google reviews that said it was great and my man had got the pick two plate with pulled pork and sausage. He had to pick a good amount of gristle out of the pulled pork which left him with probably a third of the amount that was placed on a slice of bread but also he said the sausage was pretty good. He got some steak fries and gumbo for his sides. I wasnt impressed with the pizza but I dont care for pulled chicken on pizza and as I said I didnt care for any of their bbq sauce. Even the spicy Bbq tasted sweet to me. The server came back a few times briefly which I appreciate. I do wish she had came back after dropping off the cornbread so I could have told her about that but I digress. I got some bread pudding for dessert to go which I just tasted today and it's pretty good. For two people we paid about 80 bucks but that's appetizers, a drink a piece, and two entrees so I guess not too bad. I would definitely come back and want to try some other things but I want them to work on the kitchen some more. I hate cooking but I would never put anything on my table ice cold. First time here so the three of us stopped for lunch. We sat in the bar but what I could see everything looked clean. Our waitress was professional, polite and attentive. We made our luncheon choices and drinks came quickly. Everyone enjoyed their dishes they ordered. I gave Smokehouse three stars because they're just another sport bar restaurant. This restaurant is right across the street from the Stranahan Theater, so can imagine it would gain a lot of business based upon its location. I had never been to its predecessor, The Black Pearl. Upon entering the restaurant, I found the ambiance very pleasant. The dining area is comprised of booths and my group of six was seated at a long table (or tables pushed together). Around 1pm-ish on a Saturday, the restaurant wasn't crowded- which was perfect for our book club discussion. There was a lot of wood with country music playing unobtrusively in the background. Our server was very pleasant and efficient. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich that was served with a baked potato. Normally the sandwich would be served with onion rings on top. I opted not to have onion rings and didn't realize the sandwich didn't come with lettuce or tomato slices, but did come with cheddar cheese. The sandwich arrived on a tray lined with wax paper (or something similar), not on a plate. The chicken was a generous piece and I chose to eat it with a fork and knife. The problem was that I had to be careful to try not to cut through the paper that lined the tray. Some of the paper inevitably was cut and I just tried not to eat it. I didn't complain or mention it to our server because I didn't want to make a fuss. The quality of the chicken was good but there was something a bit salty. I thought it was just me but someone in our group mentioned that her grilled chicken salad was too salty and she thought it was the croutons. I took off the top slice of bread and it was just the chicken with cheddar cheese, the bottom slice of bread and ranch dressing I had ordered on the side. Lettuce and tomato would have made a nice complement to the sandwich. Definitely would have been salty with onion rings. The ranch dressing was good, so the saltiness may have come from the chicken seasoning? I ordered an iced tea and received a refill in no time. When I received my check, I saw that chicken sandwich was $13.99 and the iced tea was something like $3.50. These days, nothing was super expensive but a bit pricey if you weren't crazy about your meal. Overall, I'd go back but wouldn't rave about it. Guess if you like BBQ, you might really enjoy it. When writing this review, I noted that the health score was 82/100, so not horrible but also not the best. 4 of us went there for dinner before the show at the Stranahan last evening. Everything was good except one major item. Three of us ordered the ribs and the ribs were just not good. These ribs were really tough on the outside, difficult to cut with a knife. Some of the meat was eatible, and was tasty, but the outside layer was barely chewable, some was not chewable. The baked sweet potato was really good, but all three of us were beyond disappointed with the ribs. Everything else was fine. read more

The food was the worst barbecue I've ever had the displeasure of consuming. The brisket looked and tasted like SPAM, with absolutely zero flavor, and it was cold. Everything on my plate was disgusting, and just looked like what it was supposed to be, but tasted nothing like it. Went there on a Sunday early evening . Party of 6. I got the 1/3 rack of ribs and pulled pork, with mac and cheese and baked beans. The ribs were oven baked - not smoked - and tasted like they had been done and refrigerated then thrown on the grill to heat them up. The pulled pork was not bad but not memorable. The mac and cheese was dry and not cheesey. The baked beans seemed to be the cheapest institutional can that had been on a pot - maybe over and over. They were almost to the point of paste and were so bad, I didn't finish them. My wife got the shredded chicken and a chopped salad. The salad was very good. The chicken was not shredded, it was minced into granular consistency, not smoked, weird spice. Nobody really enjoyed their meal. There were 2 other tables besides us that had customers. We tried this place tonight and were seated quickly in the bar area. Our drink order and food order was taken in a timely manner. While waiting for our food we noticed gnats flying around our table. After our food arrived we asked to be moved to the dining area, the bartender seemed upset that we asked to be moved but she did it reluctantly. Once moved we noticed gnats in the dining area but we decided to stay anyway. We couldn't figure out why none of the wait staff would stop at our table so I stopped one of them and told her what the situation was. She said "I know" so we asked who our new server was and she said "she's still your server" then politely she asked if we needed something I said please bring boxes if we are not going to get any service. She politely asked if we would like coke to go. I told her that's what I wanted in the first place was a refill. The food seemed to be decent with the exception of the smoked chicken slider, some of the chicken meat was cooked so long I thought they left a bone in it. Third time we've tried 419. Third times a charm we won't be back. Slowest service there is. Every time we go the waitresses just disappear. We love 734, but we live way closer to 419. So disappointing. Also, the place is infested with gnats. They literally were landing in my salad and I couldn't eat it. They did take it off my check without me asking, so that was nice of them. They need to send 734 staff out to 419 to train them. We really wanted to like it but guess we will just make the drive to 734 because we love it there. read more

I've only been here once but I'll share my opinion now because I probably won't be back. Everything was fine I just don't love restaurant BBQ or I haven't found one in the area I'd want to eat at regularly. I had the pick two. It came with choice of 2 meats, two sides and cornbread. I chose brisket and smoked wings with a baked potato and Mac and cheese. The brisket was very crumbly and tasted like pot roast. Im not a bbq expert, it was fine for me. Im a baked Mac and cheese girl it's what my mom makes. If it says MAC and cheese and comes out with cavatappi, I'm irritated. Anyway it was cavatappi and tasted like jalapeño. I don't recall it saying jalapeño Mac and cheese but that's what I got. It basically tasted like the nacho cheese you get at a Walleye hockey game on pasta. I did not like it. The cornbread was like cake. Didn't seem to have cornmeal in it. The wings didn't say anything about a rub on the menu they just said smoked wings. They came with a rub that I did not care for so I didn't eat them. They were very smokey. The shining star! The baked potato was on point! My husband got a build your own burger which was huge but he said it wasn't seasoned and wasn't great. The food seemed middle of the road. Not my taste but not necessarily bad could be fine for someone else but I did not enjoy the majority of my meal. Best barbecue sliders ever! The 1/2 chop salad is always so delicious and fresh. A great deal for the price. Actually, I haven't tried anything on their menu that wasn't really tasty. Smokehouse has such a great atmosphere, with comfortable seating. Best of all are the wonderful servers. Peyton in particular is such a jewel. Friendly, efficient and so quick! Eric also owns one of my other local favorites, Sidelines! Also has great seating, friendly staff and delicious food. Decided to try this place because we hadn't eaten here before. Order two cokes and fried pickles to start. The cokes tasted off and the pickles and salad came out fast and were good. Then the entrees took forever. We ordered a steak and a burger. The steak was over cooked and extremely crispy on the outside. The baked potato had a weird after taste and was over cooked as well. The burger was clearly a frozen patty with some questionable looking wilted lettuce. The inside of the restaurant was the only redeeming quality with a nice atmosphere, but doesn't really mean much when the food is this bad. Would not recommend. read more

This was our first visit at Smokehouse 419. We were greeted by a young man by the name of Quan. Quan was very polite and greeted us with a smile, then proceeded to take us to our table. Our waitress Sara was the best. Sara also greeted us with kindness. She made suggestions on food and drinks. We decided in the $16 whete you get a choice of three items. Great choose my husband and i tasted each other's dish. I then asked to see the manager her names is Bella she came over to our table and i informed her how pleased we were with the service, food and atmosphere. Its been quite sometime where we went out and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We sat there for a few more minutes and watch how everyone chipped in to help each other. As they say Team work makes the Dream work. This team made my day after visiting a different restaurant where they were not friendly. Thank you Smokehouse for hiring individuals that enjoy their job. Struck out again with this family of restaurants. Tried Sidelines a few times and have never been impressed. Did takeout during Covid with Smokehouse 734 and it was bad. Figured with lockdown and takeout it may have just been a miss. Came here Saturday to give them one last shot and sadly was disappointed. My pulled pork and chicken combo was passable. Nothing horrible but nothing to write home about. My dining companion got the rack of ribs and beans. The beans looked liked the dollar store can variety and they said the ribs were greasy and uneatable. Barely got through a 1/4 of it before they had to stop. The staff seemed nice but after the food came out no one ever came to check on us. By the time they did we were ready to go and just wanted out. I will say the cornbread was decent. A lot of better local options here in Northwest Ohio. Save your time and money and visit one of those. Skip this one, even if you're at the Stranahan for any reason. read more

I took clients there for a later Sunday dinner meeting shortly before 7:00 p.m.. there were a few people in the bar but the dining area was empty. Our server was very pleasant and personable . We started out each with a different flavored mule cocktail, all of which were very good and priced reasonably . We ordered the Burnt Ends and Texas Twinkie appetizers. The Burnt Ends appetizer was a very meager portion considering the price , but were delicious as were the Texas Twinkies . One of my guests ordered the steak said it was okay, the other of my guests ordered the brisket with the coffee barbecue. She also said it was okay. I had the pulled pork, had a small bite and found it very dry and flavorless added some of the barbecue sauce tried it again still found it very lackluster . I ate my baked potato most of the green beans and we all agreed that the cornbread was very good. Another mule was ordered, by far the best part of the experience . Myself and one of my guests boxed up the rest of our meals to take home . I will honestly say I don't believe because it had anything to do with the portion being so big . Personally I brought my pulled pork home with the garlic bread that it sat upon , as mentioned before , barely touched, disposing of it. Just saw a review from the burger guy that the burgers are good , maybe I'll give it another try I certainly would go back for another one of the tasty mules, not certain this is someplace I would want to take clients to again . not going back. ordered a smash burger, pictured on the menu. nope, not even close. received what looked like a frozen Patty. with wilted lettuce. I asked the server, he said no, don't serve smash burgers, he was unsure why they advertised them. husband got dry pulled pork with small container of sauce. why not have bottles on the table? baked beans looked right out of the can. had to pay an up charge for an average side salad instead of fries. service was great, just not the food. won't be going back. 4 people. no one got anything that looked good. read more
