so many good barbecue spots in Toledo, and this just isn't one of them. They do have a pretty phenomenal sandwich... " more cowbell" But they were out of so much on a Sunday at 6 PM First of all, checked my gift card before I came into the store and had a $25 balance. When I get inside, it is packed, and guy working the register can't seem to get it to work so I just decided to pay. I ordered ribs, they're out! I ordered chicken... Out of that too. I ended up getting a sandwich. I would've never ordered Pryor, but I am glad I did. You can tell they were out of a lot of meats, because the baked beans I got were pretty much a bunch of beans, floating and barbecue sauce and not even very many beans at all The mac & cheese was decent, but nothing to write home about. I had to add a decent amount of salt and pepper. But waiting in line for 20 minutes for quick order food just to find out almost all of it was gone is a bit ridiculous It's pretty unorganized and chaotic The condiment station look like it has been ransacked, so I ended up for going any pickles or onions due to fear of some weird foodborne illness The whole experience is just a bit lacking. I can pay less money and go down the street and be waited on and have a cleaner atmosphere. read more

When you arrive you will order at the counter. The staff was friendly and super helpful. After ordering you can grab a seat in the dining area. There is plenty of seating for small and large groups. There's a place to get your drink and grab some sauce from a variety of options. Our food came out quickly and portions were of good size. The Nashville hot chicken was dusted with some seasoning. It was not hot and quite frankly i couldn't taste the seasoning. The size was good and the chicken tasted good after I added some sauce. The nachos were delicious and full of flavor. The baked beans were solid as was the mac n cheese. And I had to get the hush puppies and they didn't disappoint. read more

It was my wife and our friend's first time visiting your location and the manager wearing the Cleveland Indians hat was so helpful, helping us navigating the menu and our sides. Then he told the young blonde girl it was our first time and she got samples of two more sides and got our food together fast. After we were finished eating he personally checked on us with a busy dining room. You definitely don't see that kind of effort very often, you definitely have something special with those two. Amazing first time! read more

I am really bummed. I haven't been to City Barbecue in a while but usually enjoy going there - NOT THIS TIME. Sorry to say just about everything I liked about City Barbecue has changed. The Judge's Sampler - Gone. The really good home cut fries - Gone. The portion size - Gone. Me, I am gone as well. read more

I ate a City BBQ in the Cleveland area with the food being pretty good but the service poor. I had a Brisket Sandwich, Mac and cheese and corn bread. UPDATE As can be seen the business apologized as they did in the review of the Avon Location, and asked me to provide feedback via their website, but I cant copy the link and when I tried to navigate from the main site to get to the feedback section struggled to get to it through the menus. I thought about it and in the end my feedback is here. If they want it they can enter it or just discuss it during customer feedback meetings. Not to be cynical, Some companies have a policy to always respond with a message as some data suggests it tempera the negative feedback. Some messages are case by case and varies in content and others are canned. Not saying thats the case here but the messages were the same/similar so maybe canned. ORIGINAL REVIEW At this location I ordered the same and also had fries. The sandwich was OK but corn bread was overcooked/not fresh and the fries were so so. The service was average, not friendly, not unfriendly. Considering the price you would expect more. This is supposed to be more premium than traditional fast food but the price is allot higher and the taste is just OK with mediocre service. Its possible I just had bad luck with two restaurants, but After two visits to this chain I think there are better choices. read more

2 years ago food was good. ordered chicken & baked beans 1 corn muffin. muffin was stained on the inside with dark color. chicken & beans ok. my son ordered 3 meats plus green beans but meat very dry & he left it. he never leaves food . Service was great. Got there about 15 minutes before they were closing and they were more than happy to let us sit in there until we were done eating past closing time or not. Thank you to the staff. We ended up eating outside so the staff can go home great place to eat. read more

8-24-2025 We got the sampler, all very good and the sauces were tasty. The mustard based sauce was our favorite. Potato salad was good, bean just ok. Returned to order in bulk for our book club! read more

Don't let the location fool you. With so many great restaurants nearby, like Tougen, Tiger Bakery and Poco Piatti, you might assume City BBQ is guilty by association. But don't, because it is not. It's just guilty of being mediocre, and that's being kind. A recent meal offered brisket so dry I had a difficult time swallowing it, sausage that was surprisingly flavorless without a hint of fire thrown it's way, collard greens undercooked and umbelieveably salty, and pulled pork that was just plain disappointing. One star for the hush puppies that were clearly fresh and hot. Toledo isn't particularly known for it's BBQ, but luckily we have some great options if you're looking. Just do yourself a favor and just avoid this place, it's not worth your time, tastebuds or money. read more

City Barbeque - Looks may be deceiving. This is not good food. Period. End of story. - Barbeque Near Me - Toledo, Ohio

First time coming to City Barbeque I must say I was disappointed. The greens and eat were way to salty. You can tell the used the same seasoning for everything. Couldn't eat the greens had to switch to Mac & cheese it wasnt hot. The turkey and chicken would have been very good if they didn't put salty seasoning on or in everything. $50 wasted for me. customer service was very good though read more

The pulled pork sandwich is always very good here. I like the ribs but the sandwich is my go to here. I like how you order your food and only have to wait a few minutes. You can see the cooks in the back making your order fresh and fast. I usually get it to go and I never have to wait long. Great BBQ read more

A solid barbecue offering in the suburban Toledo area. The staff are kind of food is good. The sauces are fun to try (I always recommend the mustard style sauce) and they have like five or six different ones. The prices are kind of high, though, considering the food and this is coming from someone who lives in DC I ordered a platter of two meats, and did not get any sides with it, Having to order them separately which made my bill over $25 for a two meat platter. This is quite high in my opinion for just decent, chain quality barbecue that said, and given the options in the area this is good and their brisket is above par. All in all, a good choice for a family bbq outing. Just beware the prices can add up quickly. read more

I wanted BarBQ ribs and BBQ ribs is what I got. I wanted them smoked not baked and smothered in sauce and I got smoke ribs that fell off the bone goodness. I'm from Texas so I take my BBQ very serious. I've been in Ohio for three years come next week and this is all I wanted the July fourth week. City BBQ thank you for making me feel a little like home. PS potato salad was amazing read more

We made a large takeout order so my review is for the food only, as we did not eat in the restaurant. We ordered the brisket, smoked chicken leg, smoked chicken wings, chicken strips, Texas toast, corn bread, Mac and cheese, baked beans, collard greens, salad, banana pudding and the peach cobbler. All the chicken was great, would definitely get it again. Flavor was great, not dry at all. The leg was the star. The strips were also very good, brisket was flavorful but a little dry. I'd still get it again as they offer a few different bbq sauce choices to dip in. The corn bread is better than the Texas toast but there both good. Mac and cheese was good, baked beans were great and contain brisket, collard greens were also good. Salads were normal, good amount of greens. Banana pudding is phenomenal, wish we had gotten two! Peach cobbler wasn't great, will not be getting it again. It wasn't really a traditional cobbler, it was a sweet bread that was tough and hard to eat with a little bit of peaches underneath. Aside from that everything was was great. read more

Not a bad place for BBQ. I didn't know that this place was a chain. It was fairly expensive for the amount of food you get. Everything is a la carte and the sides aren't worth it. read more

We had a gathering at City BBQ in Sylvania, Oh, for my husbands 80th birthday. We were all able to sit together (35 of us) on outside patio. The service and food was superb. I want to give a special shoutout to Julie. Julie was very instrumental in organizing the event. With her suggestions everything went smoothly. We will definitely be going back. read more

Bbq is difficult let's start with that. City BBQ is a chain of good BBQ in Ohio. This visit was just ok. The prices are getting high but that's across the board with everything. I expect I higher quality of BBQ than I received. The proteins were just ok The sides are just ok. Nothing crazy nothing bad. Just ok. read more

City Barbeque - Smoke ring on rib. - Barbeque Near Me - Toledo, Ohio

The brisket is still tops, but they haven't served me a good rib, or even a mediocre rib, in about 2 years. Beverages? The signature lemonade is usually weak, but they have local craft beer, and the atypical pop (Cheerwine and Grape Nehi? Yeah, baby!). These make up for the crappy lemonade. City BBQ has increased the variety of sauces available...that's always a 1up. Shitty ribs? Lose a star. read more

I've been faithfully going to city bbq for a few years, but the quality for the price has gone down hill. Got a sampler and the protein was decent except the brisket.. I got one strip and what looked like left over pieces. Requested for curbside ( to not get the kids out of the car) yet we waited for 20 min and had to retrieve our food inside. read more

Food was ok but man was the service a joke. I was the only one in there and it took me over 5mins to just order while the employees seemed to bicker with each other. Then another 20mins for food to go. How is it 25 minutes to get a simple bbq platter order?? A bunch of teenagers (and elderly) who couldn't care less. Literally don't think anyone between age 20 and 65 works in this entire restaurant. P.S. there were 7 employees here with no other customers, but they clearly don't care about customers so it takes forever! read more

City Bar B Que is bar b que at it worst. we each had ribs. I had a slab and my wife had a half slab. The ribs were very fatty and greasy. the flavor was very sub par for a rib place. The rub was extremely salty and there was no smoke flavor. We spent $60 on s meal that ended up in the garbage. We will never go back there again. i now understand why at the dinner hour there were only three occupied tables. read more

The disappointment! My first and last time eating here. Everything was so overwhelming with salt that I couldn't even eat half of the things I ordered. The noodles weren't cooked all the way in the Mac and cheese. The coleslaw was very soupy. The collard greens tasted dirty and extremely salty. The beans were salty and very sweet. I just can't believe it. read more

This looks amazing. Dropped in for some BBQ. Got a pick 2 with ribs and brisket. The brisket looks succulent. The fry's are hand cut. Husband lived his turkey sandwich! He got hush puppies. We got a catering order from City BBQ on Central Ave for our family Christmas. It was so good! We had the catering pack for 8-10 with 2 meats, 2 sides, sauces, and paper products. It was hot and ready when I got there. Very nice staff! Great experience! read more

The food never disappoints, be it the pulled pork, smoked turkey, ribs or brisket. The collard greens taste like there's a "Big Momma" in the kitchen from down south who knows what she's doing. Green beans are well seasoned, and the corn pudding is delicious. If you love cornbread, there's is wonderfully done. It's sweet enough to remind you of cake, yet has the perfect texture and graininess of old fashioned cornbread. The chicken tenders are fabulous. This place is fast and accurate wiry to go orders. I'm from KC and I love this place! I lived in Columbus for several years and this was my fav bbq joint there. Now I'm back in KC and this is still one of my fav bbq joints. Glad to see Toledo getting some love and some good bbq in their area. What I love: Sauces - They have 4 different sauces. May favorites are the basic and the mustard. There's also a spicy one that's too hot for me and a sweeter on. I love places with different variations of their own sauce. The main is a tomato base with a hint of vinegar. Pulled Pork - ask for it lean if you prefer less fat. My order from this location was perfect. It was lean, moist, and great smoke flavor. It was freshly pulled and not sitting to dry under the heat lamp. LOVE IT! Sides: Cornbread - love the little loaves, not sweet Hushpuppies - crispy, flavorful with pieces of onion in a cornmeal batter. These are a hard to find side dish at bbq joints Brisket - this is my husband's fav here. It's has a nice smoke to it and just the right amount of stretchyness. It's thick cut too which isn't normal, but very good. Sweet tea: house made sweet and unsweetened tea, very good. I mix the too as the sweet is too sweet for me. I love this joint. They have solid smoked meats and great sides (many more than I mentioned). Friendly service and consistent at all locations read more
