Hi, I'm sharing this to help others considering color services here, especially if you're looking for a soft, blended brunette result. I had two separate appointments with Alexa, on 2/17 and 3/19, and paid $539 and $410, totaling $949. Even accounting for the $105 haircut included in one appointment, I spent approximately $844 on color services alone and still had to pay another stylist in Los Angeles to tone my hair afterward. I brought clear reference photos and was very specific about wanting something seamless, soft, diffused, and low-contrast. Please see the attached photos for reference. The look I received was completely different from the inspiration photos I showed. Instead of the soft, blended brunette I asked for, my hair came out noticeably stripey and high-contrast, with harsh placement and warm/copper tones that did not feel seamless or diffused. When I first reached out about a correction, the manager scheduled me with Grace. During the correction consultation, Grace told me the inspiration photo looked like my hair. When I said it definitely did not, she told me my "visuals were off," which felt extremely dismissive. My concerns about the blending, tone, and placement were repeatedly reframed instead of directly addressed. Shortly after that exchange, while Grace started working on my hair, she poked my scalp with the comb in a way that was painful and felt careless. That added to how tense and uncomfortable I already felt. The way Grace communicated was very blunt and lacked tact, especially during a correction apt where I was already upset with the results. I would have appreciated a calmer, more empathetic approach focused on listening and resolving the issue. Later, during the blowout, I was so overwhelmed and uncomfortable that I asked Grace to please stop engaging with me. Instead of allowing the conversation to de-escalate, she continued to complain about why I had not mentioned the tone sooner. I have anxiety, and at that point I was literally shaking and felt uncomfortable for the remainder of the appointment. What made the situation more frustrating was that the manager did not do anything meaningful to help resolve the issue. From what I was told, it also seemed Grace had not even been properly informed that this appointment was for a color correction, which made the experience feel disorganized and unsupported. A correction was performed, and while the result improved, I still left without the soft, diffused finish I originally asked for, and there were still noticeable warm/copper tones remaining. I eventually had to fly to Los Angeles and pay another stylist to tone my hair. The LA stylist was genuinely shocked by how my hair had been left, especially after hearing what I paid and the service I received. I also want to note that even though I was unhappy with both of my color appointments with Alexa, I still tipped her 20% both times. I tried to be understanding and respectful throughout the process, even though I was ultimately unhappy with the results and how the situation was handled. I will say the stylist who completed my blowout was kind and professional, which I appreciated. Overall, the communication, consultation process, and handling of the correction did not reflect the level of service I would expect at this price point. I will not return to this salon. If you're looking for a very soft, highly blended color result, I would be cautious and make sure you feel completely aligned and heard before moving forward. You can't simply avoid accountability by labeling my review as fake or invalid when I am here, directly responding based on my own experience as a customer. I will also attach the proof of time and date I was booked with them back in December 2025! I'm not going to go back and forth on this anymore. I shared my review so other clients are aware of my experience. If someone else goes through the same situation at your salon, they will understand exactly what I mean. Extremely rude, careless, and cold behavior by Manager! I've been going to this salon for around 2 years and trusted them with my hair multiple times, which is why this experience was so disappointing. After my last color appointment, my hair didn't turn out properly--the crown came out noticeably darker than the bottom highlights and the overall blend was uneven. I had already traveled for work, but I still came back for my scheduled toner appointment a month later hoping they would help fix it. When I calmly explained my concern, the manager was extremely rude and dismissive. There was no effort to listen, understand, or even discuss possible solutions. Instead, I was immediately told I would have to pay the full $350 again to fix a result I was already unhappy with. It felt like my concern as a paying, long-term client didn't matter at all. I would have been open to paying something toward a correction, but the way I was spoken to made it impossible to even have a respectful conversation. The manager was cold, unprofessional, and at one point said, "we're not the right choice for you," which felt very disrespectful after being a loyal client for years. She was sarcastically laughing at me that how come I couldn't find time to call her. she was rude in the empty salon at that moment. Months later, I called again since they are close to my home, hoping to give them business again, and I was once again shut down and told no stylist would take me. The same manager was extremely rude again over the phone and completely refused to even consider helping or discussing anything. I don't usually leave reviews at all, and even after the last unpleasant experience I chose not to say anything publicly. But after how I was treated today when I was genuinely trying to come back and bring business to them again, I couldn't stay silent. What's most disappointing is that real professionalism shows when something goes wrong--not when everything is perfect. Instead of trying to resolve the issue or retain a loyal client, I felt completely dismissed and pushed away. As someone who also runs a business, I understand the importance of treating clients with respect and care, especially when they are unhappy. After 6 years I was let go as a client because the dye brand they switched to earlier this year doesn't color your hair correctly and since mine came out orange instead of brown and I asked for it to be fixed they instead declined and said I should find another salon. 6 years. Wouldn't recommend going here unless you're willing to accept any color that the dye creates and don't expect it to be fixed or want to feel like a valued client. For the price charged, you're better off going elsewhere. With the amount of stylists leaving, that also is a good indication your money is better spent at another salon. read more

I reserve one star reviews for poor business practices. Not just for instances of creative differences or times when the mark is missed. In sum, my stylist didn't listen on one occasion, and over-highlighted my hair. Then, when I gave it another chance, only highlighted the front of my hair and two thin sections at the top (as pointed out by my next colorist), and charged $200 for a partial. (Photo below). I was too uncomfortable to get in touch right away the second time, but finally did. I sent a picture and simply asked what we could do as a fix. When I got in touch, my concern was not addressed, the salon took no responsibility for having given me an objectively bad result, and I was told that due to my "history," no stylist at the salon would be able to see me. I was bullied, gaslighted, fleeced and, having paid $375 for the result in the photo below, sent off to pay more for the service elsewhere. I had my hair colored with Jenni several times. Jenni has a good sense of tone, but, after the first visit, it was apparent that she was phoning it in with my hair. On my second visit, I said I liked what she'd done before, although a base color she'd used had grown into a black line throughout my hair. She said she had "no idea" what she'd done with my hair before. I showed her a picture. She over-highlighted my hair, and didn't listen. I wore the color home before making a judgment, and called back, asking if we could minimally adjust the color around the hairline, which she did. Although it was all over-highlighted, and the black line was still there, I didn't want to make too big a deal of it, and wanted to be respectful of Jenni's time. When I came in again, I asked if we could get rid of the black line in my hair, as it had grown more obvious, and just asked for highlighting and grey coverage that would be low maintenance. I had missed my prior appointment, which is the first time I've missed a hair appointment in my life (I'm 45, so I've had a lot of hair appointments). I apologized and paid $175 for the missed appointment without complaint. As I explained to Deep Roots and Jenni, I had a surgery gone awry, and have been in a recovery program, the schedule for which had drastically ramped up on the day of my appointment. Nevertheless, I didn't argue with the missed appointment fee, paid it, and apologized. As I learned later, Jenni highlighted the front, two thin sections at the top, and charged me an additional $200. She didn't present me with options, or express any concern that my grey wouldn't be sufficiently covered. I noticed right away that I still had a lot of visible grey at the top of my head. However, after seeing Jenni's various Instagram posts complaining about clients (not very professional) and feeling that I had already been a bother to her, I was hesitant to reach out right away. Even though the result obviously was not something for which you'd pay $200 (much less $375). Finally, I decided, I should get in touch, as the only other options were to pay more money to someone else for a fix or to live with a bunch of grey hair, demarcated with a black line for a couple more months. I didn't think that was a fair result for me, so I got in touch with Jenni, sent a photo showing my concern, and asked if we could come up with a fix. Rather than admitting that my result wasn't great or offering any explanation or a mutually acceptable path forward, Jenni cited that Deep Roots has a two week policy for corrections (fair enough, but she obviously hadn't done the job in the first place), and said that, since we seemed to have an issue reaching a result I'd like, that she didn't think we should continue to work together. I can agree on the latter conclusion, but that is still a) not admitting that you didn't produce good work, but rather somehow blaming the client for your poor result and b) leaving a client to pay more money to fix your work. Bad form. I contacted the salon directly. The salon manager suggested reasons for why I still had so much visible grey, but still seemed to imply that somehow I was at fault. She said that, due to my "history," no one at the salon would be able to provide me service. I assume the "history" consisted of the time I asked for a correction, where Jenni hadn't listened, written down what she had done before or paid attention to the picture I'd shown her of her prior work; the missed appointment I'd paid and apologized for; and the "partial" pictured below. As context, I had seen Jenni years ago, where she'd produced a great result. As a former female entrepreneur, I made a point of writing her a great Yelp review at her first salon and, later, at Urban Betty, where she actually hadn't produced the same great result, but I reposted the first picture, and wrote another glowing review, so she could build her business at her new salon. By all means, make money. But deliver results. And not just for your "influencer" clients. read more

Marissa is the best best hairstylist!!! I've been seeing her for years now and I honestly wouldn't want anyone else touching my hair. I get a 4-5 inch cut with layers, face framing, and styling and she does it perfectly. She really listens to what you want and makes it happen every time, whether it's a haircut or color. I'm brunette and have done partial balayage with her and it was perfection. Plus, she's soooo fun to chat with while you're in the chair, which makes the whole experience 10/10. I've never been late, never needed to move an appointment, I've recommended countless people (for nothing in return)... overall I'd say I was an ideal customer. The day of my hair appointment last week, I had a scare at the doctor's which spiraled my whole day (I'm 9 months pregnant). I called and emailed to reschedule and was SHOCKED at the inflexibility. At first I was told I would be charged 100% of my service fee since it's within the 48 hour window. 100% - in a 48 hour window. When I said I wasn't feeling well, she begrudgingly said I could move it but in order to hold my next appointment required a 50% up front deposit. I told them to pound sand. That's an outrageous way to treat a long standing customer and I can't support these types of business policies. Would not recommend if you ever have anything unpredictable come up in your life. read more

I decided to reach out to Deep Root ATX per the recommendation of a friend who had also just finished chemo therapy and needed extensions. I messaged my stylist twice and never received a response and had to contact the main line to get someone to respond to me. I ended up getting my extensions elsewhere outside of Austin and then contacted them again to see if I could schedule maintenance for my hand tied extensions and they can not do it since I didn't do the initial install with them. I was hoping for a more compassionate and prompt response from this business to help with my hair journey post chemotherapy. I should have noticed from the lack of diversity from their Instagram pages that this place can be selective with who they take on for a customer. They'll work well with you if you're an Instagram influencer, otherwise, good luck! read more

It's been a little over two months now since my last appointment at Deep Roots back in November 2023. I was debating whether I should leave this salon a review or not, but I think if there is a chance to stop at least one blonde girl from going through the same experience I went through, then this will be worth it. Also, I really hope this review will get Deep Roots management attention to maybe look into their teaching practices and overall, at the quality of their services when it comes to working with blonde clients. I researched the best spots in Austin for coloring and ran into this place. They have about 5/5 stars on almost every platform in terms of reviews, beautiful Instagram profile, and look like they know what they are doing. Booking process: As a new client, they made it pretty complicated to get on their books, which made me feel even more interested in getting an appointment with them and also confident that they are good. I started contacting them in September and got my appointment scheduled for beginning of November. Experience: I will not get into all the details, but long story short I ended up going back to Deep Roots 4 times in one month (November) after my first appointment at the beginning of November, 2 different locations, 3 different stylists. The big red flag here is that no stylist had the decency to admit that a mistake was made on my first appointment that resulted in a yellowish blonde on the length with dark and orange spots near the roots that can get fixed only by waiting for the hair to grow and investing in treatments and cuts. Every time when I got called back for "fixing" the problem, they guaranteed that I am going to deal with "their best stylist", that there is not going to be "any damage to my hair" and that they will make it right. I understood way too late that they put so much accent on providing "good customer service" and had absolutely no interest in how this is going to affect the color or the quality of my hair. They ended up refunding my money. However, I ended up with a hair that I can see breaking every day, it was basically fried during those "safe" appointments. The color is terrible, and no stylist wants to do a color correction because of how fragile and damaged my hair is now. I've been coloring my hair blonde for 15+ years and was able to maintain a great color and healthy hair for this entire time. Went to Deep Roots with high expectations for getting an Instagram worthy color - like in all the posts they have on their account... Not for a second I thought that I will have to look like this for months: horrible color and extremely damaged hair. read more
