Overall I have been pretty frustrated and disappointed with my experience at Austin Curls, after trusting my stylist could fix the mistake that was made in my initial appointment (see photo), I have only been let down by the lack of service and expertise provided, by both my stylist and Austin Curls as a whole. I'm someone who values spending money on services, because I believe you tend to get what you pay for, but I spent over $400 on a balayage service that I now have to go somewhere else to have fixed. For future customer's sake, I hope this is a one off experience. Going in to my appointment I wasn't too picky with my service as long as I had added dimension to my hair, was in the range of browns, and it was relatively natural looking. I, naively, had no idea I could end up with such badly botched and mismatched hair from a place with such high reviews. I attempted to contact my stylist after the first recolor to address the issue of obvious miscoloring (see photo) and, after a week of waiting, did not receive a response. After sending an email to Austin Curls I was only offered to be seen/put in contact with the same stylist that messed my hair up twice and ignored my message. I understand Austin Curls operates as a collective, but I definitely didn't feel like I had support in resolving this issue outside of seeking help elsewhere. *In response to the reply from Austin Curls, I did not want my hair light and actually ended up with a color much lighter than I asked for. The problem is not from being disappointed with the lightness. My hair is discolored from the stylist darkening one part of my hair after messing up the balayage and not matching the rest of my hair. I have since seen a different stylist who fixed my coloring, breaking up the chunks and giving me the subtle dimension I wanted within 2 hours, no extra bleaching needed! What I wanted was easily achievable and this experience would've been a lot smoother if Austin Curls was capable of providing it. read more

This is the absolute worst hair cut I have ever had. I asked Raquel specifically to not touch the bottom of my hair or the bangs because I've been struggling to grow my for the past 5 years. She kept trimming and trimming until I had to stop her. My hair is uneven and so damn short. She cut over 2 inches of it. My hair was healthy with no color or hardly any split ends. I asked her to blend-on the uneven layers and now I can barely put it in a ponytail. They should be ashamed to call themselves specialists in curly hairs and charge $200 per cut. Do yourself a favor and cut your own hair instead of going to this joke of a place. I'm so traumatized and been crying all morning because of my hair. read more

I love the intake form when you schedule your appointment that lets you request a chatty or quiet appointment and give your hairstylist information about your curl type before you go in. I recently moved to Austin and was in need of a hair stylist. At first, I honestly wondered if I could time trips back to California around the time I needed a haircut. If you have curls, you understand that once you find the stylist who understands your hair, you stick with them for life! After deciding that having to fly for a haircut was crazy, I yelped 'curly hair cuts', and up popped Austin Curls. I made an appointment for a month later. Upon arrival at the salon, I was stunned. Everyone is beautiful, healthy, curly hair! It was like a curly hair oasis. I showed Jasmin my hair inspiration and she got to work. At the end of my appointment, she taught me how to style my hair. I am 38 years old and had never been taught to do the things that Jasmin showed me. I left with the most beautiful curls. I was convinced that I would never be able to make my hair look the same way that she had. So I vowed to never wash my hair again. Then the time came to wash my hair and try the 'rake and shake' for myself. I watched the videos that Jasmin sent, and read the instructions (she sent instructions so I wouldn't forget!) carefully. The result was a head of beautiful curls!!! I have been able to repeat the styling over and over with the same result!! Since my first cut I've been back to Jasmin for a maintenance cut- it's pretty easy book about 4 weeks out. I got a balayage, the total cost was $488 i included pictures of my hair before ,the inspo picture, right after i left the salon and the next day. the final color of my hair wasn't the color i wanted the inspo pic is more of a purple color and the color i received was a medium brown. the service did not include any type of style or drying they did offer one but it was an ADDITIONAL $95 having already paid nearly $500 i refused and left the salon with dripping wet hair hence i wasn't able to see the final color until my hair fully dried i'm really disappointed in the result it wasn't the color i wanted (i feel like it looks exactly the same as the before) and the color i did receive is not consistent throughout there's spots in the back were the color was missed as shown in one of the photos. overall im sad having spent so much money with the results. i got the salon was nice however and staff were very friendly read more

I have never had a sailing have a online scheduling system but every single appointment I book gets denied. If that's the case I would prefer to call and create a booking but they don't do that either. Then the one consultation I was able to keep they then asked me to come in 3/4 hours earlier. If you are able to get in they seem like they would produce good results but the hassle of trying to get an appointment is crazy. I shouldn't feel like I am forcing someone to try to take my money and the communication is mostly non-existent, 90% of the time it was me reaching out to find out why or what happened. Update: I stand by what I said as this is my experience. I do have all of the emails to back up what I have said. In response to someone else. I didn't care who I saw, I did care what location I went to. That location gave me no other options. I have no feedback on the services as it never got that far. read more

I work M-F, so I scheduled an appointment 2 months in advance to be seen on a Saturday. The day before I get a text asking if I can come in at a different time-- sure. The day of I get a text saying the stylist is sick so I'll need to reschedule-- again, sure. I asked when I can reschedule and was told that upcoming Tuesday is available. No, I can't take time off from work with one day's notice. The other option I was given was two Fridays later, when I would be out of town. I was asked what my availability looks like and said M-F evenings and all day Saturdays, to which I received no reply. I texted again asking for a reschedule and was ignored. Again, I work M-F so I scheduled a Saturday appointment 2 months in advance. If you have a busy work schedule I don't recommend this place-- very unprofessional. UPDATE: Thanks for the response. I understand that this is a small business and that people get sick-- it happens. What I don't understand is why I was completely ignored afterwards. Multiple people work here, and some (any) effort could have been made to reschedule folks. Instead, an effort was made to not reschedule. If I get sick at work that doesn't mean get to just not respond to emails or decide not to finish my projects when I return. You say you'd like to offer me an amazing experience-- sure, I want to get my hair cut, that's why I scheduled 2 month out. Feel free to actually reach out and reschedule me. read more

I'm here to continue the well deserved 5-star praise of Jasmin. I'd been relaxing my hair for 25 yrs (I'm mixed black and white), and about 2 yrs ago opted to stop in an effort to sort out my natural curls. I was still blow drying and straight ironing my natural hair until March 2021, when I went to another curly hair salon in Austin that did a nice job introducing me to a new curly-hair routine, but didn't really cut or moisturize my hair. I left there feeling kind of meh, but still determined to make it work. I ended up finding Austin Curls when I was looking to book an actual haircut and hadn't heard back from the previous salon. That turned out to be a true #blessing in disguise. Jasmin is clearly a curl-whisperer. I honestly believed that the hair that frames my face might never curl on it's own because of how much I'd previously heat damaged it, and have been manipulating that portion into curls via twists when I do a wash and go. All Jasmin had to do was take a finger to that hair and it curled like it'd been that way it's entire life. She took her time, cut out a bunch of bulk, and left my hair soft and hydrated. As per other reviews, she explained her styling process to me so that I can *fingers crossed* replicate it on my own. This new trend of embracing your natural hair in all it's glorious curliness has been so fantastic, and to then couple it with someone who knows how to make them be the best that they can be is truly invaluable to someone who's been afraid to embrace their natural hair for literally a lifetime. Jasmin is worth every penny and then some and you should stop reading this and BOOK WITH HER NOW. Also, her prices are comparable to others around town, so truly, you almost feel like you're getting away with something by getting her expertise for what she charges.
