I have been searching for a new salon to get my haircut since moving here and found this place via Yelp with decent reviews. I went to Fantastic Cuts today and received a haircut by presumably the owner since she was the only person at the shop. The haircut was okay, I don't nitpick, which is the reason why I am giving it another star. The thing that boggles my mind is that I was charged an extra $5 for a "complicated haircut" - what?! I have a mohawk and requested to clean it up, I don't understand how that would be defined as complicated. In addition, she knew it was my first time and charged me without explanation until I asked. This penny-pinching tactic have lost a potential regular customer. I don't think a 10 minute haircut should constitute an additional fee - I won't be coming back.

Overall I have been pretty frustrated and disappointed with my experience at Austin Curls, after…read moretrusting my stylist could fix the mistake that was made in my initial appointment (see photo), I have only been let down by the lack of service and expertise provided, by both my stylist and Austin Curls as a whole. I'm someone who values spending money on services, because I believe you tend to get what you pay for, but I spent over $400 on a balayage service that I now have to go somewhere else to have fixed. For future customer's sake, I hope this is a one off experience. Going in to my appointment I wasn't too picky with my service as long as I had added dimension to my hair, was in the range of browns, and it was relatively natural looking. I, naively, had no idea I could end up with such badly botched and mismatched hair from a place with such high reviews. I attempted to contact my stylist after the first recolor to address the issue of obvious miscoloring (see photo) and, after a week of waiting, did not receive a response. After sending an email to Austin Curls I was only offered to be seen/put in contact with the same stylist that messed my hair up twice and ignored my message. I understand Austin Curls operates as a collective, but I definitely didn't feel like I had support in resolving this issue outside of seeking help elsewhere. *In response to the reply from Austin Curls, I did not want my hair light and actually ended up with a color much lighter than I asked for. The problem is not from being disappointed with the lightness. My hair is discolored from the stylist darkening one part of my hair after messing up the balayage and not matching the rest of my hair. I have since seen a different stylist who fixed my coloring, breaking up the chunks and giving me the subtle dimension I wanted within 2 hours, no extra bleaching needed! What I wanted was easily achievable and this experience would've been a lot smoother if Austin Curls was capable of providing it.

I came in with my hair styled probably the best I've ever done, I've been working for years to find the right routine for me and my hair type, and I put my hair in the trust of this place. As soon as I sat down and explained what I wanted, my hair was wet and combed out then cut like any other normal haircut. No special treatment was given to my curls. After that some gel was slapped in until I felt like I had a slug on my head and I was stuck under a dryer. From what I could tell, an average hair dresser was given a quick class in the basic curly method, just to toss it out the window. I am so upset with how different it looks from anything I asked. I got WAY more hair cut off than I wanted and now I look like a squire from medieval times rather than the cute, simple, girly cut I asked for. Be careful people.

So I was excited when she invited me today! And now I am hooked. When we arrived the reception area was a little busy but I was greeted within a few minutes and the receptionist were super friendly. I waited about 12 minutes for my stylist to come get me from the waiting area. We started off with my hair being brushed and then we went to the washing bay where my stylist washed my hair and massaged my scalp. It felt so good!!! You can do an add-on, 15-minute massage, but you need to book that when you make the reservation. When she was done washing we went to the dry bar area and my stylist brought me a water and a small glass of champagne Your stylist will then style your hair based on the signature style you most like. I did a combination of Cosmo in Southern comfort. It looks so nice!! She did exactly what I asked for . I cannot wait to go back. I just wish there was a location closer to Georgetown. That's definitely a franchise investment opportunity. But until then, I will be making some frequent trips to the domain.
