Went for a 20 minute consultation with Cynthia about having red low/highlight put in. If I had to sum up the entire interaction in one sentence it would be this-----It was as if she thought she had some award winning million dollar cookie recipe and I was trying to steal the recipe-----she couldn't have been more vague about her plan even when I kept pressing for details. For example, some pieces of the conversation: First of all the empty buzz words like she wanted to "restore" and "refresh" my hair and I was like what does that mean? Olaplex? Keratin treatment? Gloss? What? -----Avoids the question, no explanation. Her: I wanna "deposit color only" Me: Okay how's that like a level 10 developer or are you talking about just doing like a filler? what? Her: I'm not gonna go into and detailed explanation......(continues on about how I should trust her and repeat's more buzz words) My internal dialogue: I'm not asking for an exact recipe of what volume developer, what hair brand, what technique, you could give me one sentence such as "oh by that I mean filler, I'm gonna use filler", would that have been so hard!? (I'm guessing she was referring to filler) Her: I wanna "tone your base" Me: Okay so what does that entail? My understanding of toning involves blonde hair so please explain (because my hair is brown/red), what do you mean, are you gonna put in color, toner, what? Her: I'm not gonna go into and detailed explanation...repeats her qualifications and that I just need to trust her She repeatedly stated her qualifications, belittled any hair knowledge I had (which I never even said or acted like I had any), and seemed offended that I dare ask any questions rather than blindly trust her. Also I didn't appreciate the couple subtle rude comments like "I know you think you know about color because you've dabbled at Sally's". If someone keeps stating that they don't understand what you're saying, your plan, etc. then you probably need to explain it differently. I kept saying stuff like "I'm trying to understand your vision" and "what specifically does that entail" and I just kept getting the same vague replies using the same language. I'm not an idiot, but even if I was she should have found a different way to explain things rather than continually restating the same things such as her qualifications and that I should trust her. I'm a nurse, if I walked into a room with an injection and the patient said "what is that" "what's it for" "what are the side effects" etc. I would explain every last thing until they had no questions and felt totally comfortable with the plan. I wouldn't say "I'm not gonna go into a detailed explanation, you just need to trust me, I've been a nurse for a long time, etc." Which is basically what she did. Even if she's a good hair dresser she needs to seriously work on her communication skills. IN CONCLUSION I just got this sense of entitlement from her like how dare I, some bottom dweller, who knows nothing about hair dare inquire any questions to this royal emperor of hair, I SHOULD JUST BLINDLY TRUST THIS STRANGER WITH MY HAIR AND PAY THEM HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO ENACT SOME PLAN THAT I'M NOT EVEN PRIVY TO. To Cynthia-Nobody is above explanations, if a surgeon can go into an in depth detailed explanation to a patient before a surgery (which they do) I think you can be a little more precise in explaining your little hair project. Oh and then she charged me a $25 consultation fee which she never mentioned upfront. read more

I went to see Perry initially with a pretty jumbled mess of hair. Split ends, different colors, different lengths. Perry helped me with a plan to get my hair looking great in time for my wedding. I've been to him now twice and I've been very happy with the results both times. Since my hair is long, coloring and highlighting takes hours but he does it well and for a very reasonable price. I got a Groupon when I first moved here for a sweet deal on highlights and cut. I've been through some not so great stylists in my day so I was very nervous about the cut. When you wear your hair short there's not much to do about it when someone messes you up! I shouldn't have been worried. Perry is a perfectionist. He's got over 20 years experience and the man knows hair! This is his art and you can tell while he's working that he really enjoys what he does. I've gone back three times now and the consistency is excellent. I am constantly getting compliments on my hair, even weeks after seeing Perry because he does such a nice job of shaping the cut, it even grows out nicely. Also the conversation is very easy. Some people may not worry about this like I do, but when you have to spend a couple hours with someone, it helps if it's not awkward! He's pretty focused on his work, so breaks in the conversation are not awkward, but he's also a really interesting guy, and has some cool stories from playing football back in the day. I've been done with the contact with them for about two months. That first week when I moved out of salon. I called and make sure that they don't charge me for next week. The manager said yes she'll make sure. I still got charge that coming week and got charge $35 for the over draft. I already let that slide. They made me come all the way to the shop and get the check 225$ without the over draft fee. And now after two months they made the mistake again. They didn't even say sorry. I don't care if it's the Bank fault or something. But the way the own talk to me like it's my fault. That's not cool at all. He was such a nice guy. He was very friendly and personable. He was confident in his hair abilities and I had no doubts he would do a good job. I was right and he did. He chopped off over 8-10 inches of my hair and gave me all around hi-lights. And gave me a new look! I felt like a new person! I've had the same one for a long time, so it was time for change. It's next to the Golds Gym - never even knew it was there and I've lived in the area for years! The salons are very modern and clean, and Perry is a really sweet guy. He's been in the biz many years, and has worked in places like J.C. Penney and Ulta before starting his own studio. Best highlights ever! I have fine, thin, baby hair...so it is very fragile. Perry knows his hair! He went as light as he could safely go (I so appreciate the care he took for the health of my hair). End result: Very light beautiful, blonde hair! He got those highlights so close to the root it is amazing! The cut he did gave my hair some added volume too. It overall looks simply amazing.
