I got my hair cut on Friday with the person I usually see. I'm not sure where the communication went wrong, but after getting home and styling my hair myself, I really wasn't happy. I called today to see if I could get a touch up. They were very nice but informed me that my regular stylist was out sick and offered to gets me in with another stylist who has been at the salon for many years. I thought it would be a quick fix to just soften the bluntness and add some soft layers for a little movement. She wasted no time in hacking off a layer. When I saw it , I kind of panicked and asked if she could blend it in so it wasn't such a noticeable line. She tried and proceeded to explain it away saying that it's just the way my hair is...um, nope, I've had plenty of good cuts over the years. It became clear that we would just go from bad to worse if she continued, so I politely said thank you and left. I am in shock at the uneven chop job I now have. I would have been better off keeping my first crappy $100 cut. I won't be going back. read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my significant other since I had the privilege of listening in to the manager of this location who's name is Cassie. I'll start out by saying the level of professionalism exhibited by this "manager" is beyond reprehension if a customer is calling you because a stylist messed their hair up you can try to show a bit of empathy rather than blaming the person saying they failed to communicate. This woman acted from the beginning of the conversation as if she had a chip on her shoulder, I guess some people get drunk on the limited power they have. Secondly treating the person as if they're trying to get something free because your stylist was unable to properly do a hair style is inexcusable. I'm not entirely sure what you're hollow effort to say she can come in and you could take a look would accomplish either, the stylist cut too much hair off are you going to glue her hair back on? I myself frequent Finley's and have never once heard anyone their speak to a customer like these "professionals" have. I also think you need a lesson in customer service, people don't generally call you to tell you how great you did they call you to let you know you did poorly. I would highly recommend this overpriced supercuts, they charge 5 star pricing and provide 1 star service, unearned ego and hubris will get you nowhere. read more

I wanted to make a HUGE recommendation for Melissa at the Maximum FX Escarpment salón. She cuts my very short hair beautifully and really takes her time, getting it just right. She really listens to what you're asking for, which is also really nice. I can't say enough good things about her and her skill. If you're wanting a Pixie, especially, go to Melissa, but, really, I imagine she's great with all haircuts. read more

I have been to this salon several times and it has never disappointed. The staff has always been wonderful as have the cuts/styles I have gotten. Today was the first time I've been back to a salon since COVID started. The staff was very diligent in cleaning and ensuring everyone who entered the salon had a mask and no fever. It could have been an odd experience, but it wasn't at all. In fact, I was very comfortable the entire time. I got a haircut from Robi and he was EXCEPTIONAL. Super friendly guy, great service, and a great cut. Since they can't blowdry hair right now, he went the extra mile and put my hair in cute braids so I wouldn't have to walk out of the salon with long wet hair in my face. Except for the shower curtains between washing stations. It's a good and cheap option so I think they should be changed more often as the two i saw were kinda gnarly. read more

I went in for one thing... after a color consult with photos. Explained that I wanted low maintenance copper balayage and not roots that needed retouching every three weeks. Came out with burgundy hair and nearly black roots. the stylist was nice and very personable, so I thought she understood the plan. Came back the next day for them to "fix" it, asking that they just take the color out. Was told-it's an easy fix because it's the same color family from what you requested. Ya'll they bleached my entire head white/blonde and proceeded to give me dark roots on top of that- run away! When we moved to Circle C, I decided to give near by businesses a chance. Maximum FX was a great choice! My first appointment was with Lauren, and I have been seeing her for my color for almost a year now. Highly recommend! My color has been amazing ever since, and Lauren never tries to up-sell/pressure you into doing something more than you planned for. Pricing is in level with other similar salons, very reasonable. Nice touch - complimentary spa treatment while getting hair done. Salon is clean, always busy, and their Aveda liquorish root tea is delicious!! read more

I have been going here for some years and my experience was always good , but my usual color stylist had left and had someone else do my highlights . My hair was over processed , it was left on too long , it was close to an hour that's way too long to leave bleach on and now my hair has broken . I was really upset and called and told them , no reaction ! I was told , I'm sorry u FEEL your hair is damaged ! Say what !!! No I don't feel it's damaged , it is !!! I used to be a hair stylist , so I'm familiar with the process I would have expected , I'm so sorry this happened , please come in and we can cut it and put a conditioning treatment on it . I only do blowouts here but I do them frequently. It is a nice Aveda salon and lives up to my expectations of an Aveda salon. You get to choose an add-on stress relieving service with each visit. I always choose the temple massage with some kind of oil. You also receive a complimentary hand massage while your hair is being done. Very nice. Sometimes they come around and ask if you would like a complimentary lip color as well. My stylist, Whitney, is great. She is very friendly and good at her job. What else could one ask for? I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I've never had any other hair service there other than a blowout so that makes it hard to evaluate the salon as a whole. read more

I have curly hair and he's been great at giving me a low maintenance cut that works with my curls and doesn't leave me longing for an extra hour in the morning to straighten. I got a great cut here, a drastic change! I'm glad the stylist (Savannah) was knowledgeable and knew exactly how to give me what I wanted. I called in the morning, they scheduled me that afternoon. I was treated to a complimentary mimosa while I waited (a very short time)....and they also ran a special in which I could pick out a complimentary skin or hair treatment of my choice. I would go back just for the scalp massage...:) but overall, a great experience. I get a free "clean-up" cut in 2 weeks, and I'll definitely be going there for all my haircuts from now on. read more

I have been looking for another spot to get my hair done that was a good balance between quality, relaxation, and time. This is that place! They use team work to get you through in a good amount of time but you still get hand and head massages and lots of nice beverages while you are in the chair. The customer service here is tip top. I am a little picky about my cut and color sometimes but I also like to let the artist work their magic and they always come through perfectly for me. Melissa cuts my hair and Lindsay colors my hair. I have interactions with most all staff and never an bad experience! Their hours are great for this working mom! I can't say enough good stuff! read more

I've tried a few other salons, but I always end up coming back to Maximum FX. The staff is great and always helpful, and all of the stylists are extremely good at what they do. Jake and Cassandra are my favorites, they always give amazing cuts and gorgeous blow outs, plus great advice on what your hair needs (dryness, buildup, etc.) They have used all the products they sell and can always help to give advice on what you need. Also, I always seem to have the best conversations with them, they're outgoing and super easy to talk to. Love this place! Their prices went up a little, but I rarely get haircuts, so I won't complain. They give a complimentary service (the options are a warm towel wrap, makeup touchup, cooling eye treatment, etc.) And they have a staff member that goes around giving hand massages while your hair is getting cut. SO NICE. Styling is included in the haircut price (unlike a lot of places, like Ulta). And I always get a couple sample Aveda products (score). Try it! I love this salon. read more

I tried it initially because it is only about 10 minutes from my house and because I have always had good experiences with Aveda salons in general. I've had my hair cut here twice. Both times it has looked good (not great, but not bad) when I've left, but then I get home and wash it and I am not impressed. I can't do anything to make it look even half as good -- and it didn't look great to begin with. It could well be that I am just giving bad instructions on cutting my hair. It's true that I don't bring pictures and about the most technical word I know regarding haircuts is "layers". So maybe they are giving me exactly what I'm asking for...I don't know. So I could have given really bad instructions. Twice. To two different people. The salon is pleasant inside. The front desk people have seemed a twinge on the cold/snotty side. The stylists have been okay but again, I don't know if I'm asking for the wrong style or they just keep giving me the wrong style. I may return again if I get desperate, just because it's close to my house, but I'm looking for a new place... read more

Erica is a great stylist and I have been going to her at Maximum FX at 4 years. The store loses a star because the prices are getting a wee bit high and Erica no longer does the shampoo which she is just awesome at :( The girl that shampooed my hair the last time gave the weakest head massage. That is usually the highlight of the visit. Oh well. Other than that, it is a nice little place that does good hair. I never have to wait and everyone is always ultra friendly. On top of that the stylists and staff there always seem to be up on the latest hair trends and look nice and polished themselves. NIGHTMARE! What a mess! I went here because I needed to cut 1-2 inches off my long hair that went to my mid back and get my layers cleaned up. This place is in my neighborhood and a AVEDA salon so I assumed it would have stylist that have had proper training and knew what they were doing. HUGE mistake. I was butchered by a stylist named Candy. This girls technique was strange. She twisted and then cut my hair, did not put my hair tight when she attempted to layer it and when she made a chunk cut, ear level, trying to do layers, I almost fell over. I had to tell her to stop and put down the scissors. They did offer to have their trainer take a look at it and try and fix it, but if that person trained Candy I want nothing to do with them either. My hair is now a little past my shoulders with the other half of is above my ears. I have to wear my hair half up to even make it look semi decent. I went to my usual stylist, Monica at Stella Blue, and she tried to fix it best she could, but I am going to have to let it grow out or cut it super short. I will not cheat on my stylist again, will never go back to Maximum FX and warn others about this place. Although all people have to do is look at my jacked up hair to see how horrible this place is. I love getting my hair done here. It's on the pricey side but they make it worth the expense. They bring you wine while they do your hair and give hand massages while they blow dry your hair. Further, they usually do a small lip treatment or something during the hair washing part. I've never had a bad experience here. I've lived in Austin for about 5 years now, but have never bothered to find a salon to do my hair because I was visiting my hometown (and salon there) often enough. However, now that I live in the adult world and don't have as much time to scamper on home, I decided to find a salon here. My only requirements were that it had a good Yelp rating (of course), was an Aveda salon (it's just so awesome), and that it be reasonably priced. So here we are! I booked an appointment online and got both confirmation texts and emails, which was great. My appointment with Whitney was wonderful. She wasted no time finding out what I wanted and got started with the scalp massage (!) immediately. She was very friendly and we had a good time talking. It was very different from the other Aveda salon I was going to, which had a more spa-like atmosphere, but it was fine because she was so fun! Normal shampooing (and more head massaging) with a hand treatment (that I chose) was great, as was my haircut. During the haircut, a guy actually came by and gave me a hand massage, which was really unexpected but really awesome! Overall, it was a fantastic experience -- no wait time, I felt like I was well cared for, and just a fun experience overall! I would absolutely recommend this to any of my friends living down south, with an extra recommendation to go to Whitney! She is getting a lot of love on Yelp, and it is well deserved. Candy is a doll and really knows her hair! My usual gal was of course booked through the holidays (also works a limited schedule) so I was scrambling. On a recommendation from a co-worker, I tried to make an appointment with Candy (online system is easy to use!) but she too appeared to be booked solid. EXCEPT, just my luck there was an appointment in a few hours! Lucky me. There are refreshments upon arrival and you can choose from a "service" to add to your cut for free (like makeup re-touch or a hot towel, etc.) Pretty nifty. Candy did a quick pre-cut then cut my hair when it was almost dry, to see how it fell. I have a funky swirl in the back of my head and this cut is doing a great job of hiding it without me doing any work. In fact, I don't really do anything to my hair and it's just cute all by itself! I requested a short choppy bob and she adapted it perfectly to fit my hair. She was sweet and friendly, but also really seemed to be enjoying herself and having fun with the haircut. Getting my hair did always makes me feel great but she really put me in a great mood :-) Looking forward to going back! read more

I've been to the South Congress location countless time for haircuts but this review is for the Circle C location only. I went here a Pure Focus Facial (my first facial ever) with Jennifer (I think she is the only one who does spa treatments here). She was very friendly and gave me a little skin survey to find out about my skin type and what I wanted out of the facial. The facial itself was AMAZING. Cleansers, exfoliation, masks, hot towels, lotion, oils, the works. And on top of that I received a hand and head massage. She really knew what she was doing. I felt like I was in heaven. This facial also included extraction (ew, I know). When she was done she explained the products used and why but wasn't pushy about it. My only complaint was that the salon was very loud and even though she was playing soothing music I could hear people laughing and talking really loudly in the salon. read more

I've been coming here for the best part of 12 years and I'm finally done. Last two haircuts were uneven-even after I had them fixed. Now today they are wanting to charge me $50-70 for a blow dry. That's just silly. And way too corporate for me. Don't waste your time here-head downtown if you want to spend a lot of $. At least you'll probably get an even cut. read more
