Let me start off by saying I'm very picky when it comes to bbq and Dee Willie's doesn't disappoint. My friends and I stopped in for lunch and ordered some plates, we had the brisket, turkey, sausage and ribs and all the meat was absolutely perfect, very tender and flavorful. We also tried the mac and cheese, the cream corn and sweet potato casserole and it too was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcomed and the restaurant itself was clean and well run. Overall this was a very good experience and I will go so far to say that Dee Willie's has the best bbq in San Antonio. I will definitely return and will recommend them to all of my friends and co workers read more

FOOD POISONING: My office had a luncheon and ordered about 10 pounds of meat and sides. About 20 out of 25 people ended up getting sick and we determined it to be the brisket. Clearly with so many people getting sick, this was likely the cause of food poisoning or some bacteria within the food because that night nearly everyone got sick. While it's understandable that these things happen the frustrating part is that when we complained to the owner, he said it was impossible for the food to be the cause of everyone getting sick and didn't even offer an apology. The food is also not cooked on site and is transported so this could cause more potential for contamination. Furthermore, we placed an order in advance so that the food would be readily available for pick-up but it wasn't even ready for pick-up on time. Lastly, the food was just ok. Hope nobody else gets food poisoning like we did! read more

The food was good. It's my second time here and it was ok but it wasn't as delicious as I thought it would be. I wouldn't go again. My son got the Mac and cheese. I got the chicken and potato salad. The bbq sauce was a bit too tangy for me which could of been the reason I wasn't too fond of it but definitely worth trying at least once. My partner got the Dino rib and it was almost all fat so that wasn't very fun. read more

Second time in a week at this place...the best BBQ I have ever had. Brisket is so tender and juicy, baby back ribs the meat falls off the bone. All the sides are delicious and don't forget the cherry cobbler!!!! This place is clean and the owner is so friendly and wants to make sure everyone is taken care of. They have an All You Can Eat and baby backs are included in that. Then they have a meal with Dino Ribs....they are humongous!! I'm funny about my BBQ sauce but I love theirs. So we decided to drove to Dee Willie's on Zarzamora, but I told my husband call first! See if they have meat. "Hi, yes we're open to 9"... Not a word about meat. No meat. Nothing. You'd imagine someone calls to see if you're open, you might mention we're currently out of meat. So we get to Zarzamora, walk in. And. They. Don't. Have. Meat. Dee Willie's is dang good! Try the sweet potato casserole as a side and you will not be disappointed. Ived tea is so good it doesn't even need sweetening. They made sure to ask if we needed refills on the way out which is great hospitality. The men's room was clean but out of soap which somebody should check regularly. I'm the type that does not like my food overly salty... I appreciate that Dee Willie's actually lets the flavor of the food come through first rather than the salt... I'd prefer to add my own salt rather than too much salt already cooked in... like I did with the side of beans. The potato bake was perfection! The pork ribs tender, the sausage was plentiful- they was hiding under my ribs. The bbq sauce is so good as well. Although 2 slices of complimentary bread would be better than the one you get with the plate, bread isn't something that's expensive! Especially the kind they serve you. I like how they serve the drinks in large to go cups. I would go back if I'm craving some good BBQ. read more

I'll start by saying I went here often, food was cheaper than most places, service is not their strong part. My office ordered a 10lb order for an event and 20 out of 25 got food poisoning, we've narrowed it down to the brisket. We contacted the restaurant and they quickly said it was impossible it was them and put blame on us. I'm not looking for compensation or anything in return. Just want to bring awareness. If you can go somewhere else. Food is not cooked on site, it's cooked offsite and transported to the restaurant. Food can be contaminated at various times. Good food and good service. The serving sizes are good. Bench style seating. I had white chicken and it wasn't dry at all. I enjoyed the marbled brisket more than the lean brisket. I found the lean brisket a little dry and lacking flavor. I don't usually put barbecue sauce on my brisket but I did today. The baked potato salad was surprisingly yummy, but the sweet potato casserole was my favorite. I gave four stars because I liked the chicken, marbled brisket and the sides. read more

My husband and I heard about this place on Elder Eats so tried to give it a try. Key word: TRIED. We arrived at 6:20 pm today (Saturday) and were advised a table just needed to be cleaned and we could take a seat. We ordered our drinks with the young man that sat us and waited about 5 minutes when a woman approached our table and said "we are running low on meat and don't even know if we can serve the people that are here already." I got up and left without saying a word. This is absolutely infuriating to be sat with the false hope that you're able to get served. No forewarning. No sign saying low on product or sold out. FALSE HOPE. This establishment has reviews on here for similar experiences so, my take is they either don't care to make more to accommodate or they just plain don't care. This place is pretty good if you are wanting Some decent BBQ. Chicken, Turkey & Sausage were great. But we have tried a lot of different brisket in town.. & this one was the most disappointing :/ lacked a lot flavor, was grey in color and very spongy texture. Wasn't appealing to eye or taste. Majority of our pieces had to much fat. BUT, the sides are amazing and the sweet potatoes were to die for! Cream corn was good too. Mac & cheese was okay.. nothing to amazing. They opened a new location on the Southside.. we have never tried their original location. BUT we tried this place on a Friday night, we were really impressed with great, fast service. It would have recieved 5 stars but as we were paying I noticed an unwanted visitor crawling over the cashier. I want to really love this place but there closing times are not accurate. On the website it says they close at 9 but when you pull up to the place they have "8" taped to the door. Second of all the brisket is always dry! Also, they're really tight with the sides, like for the price you pay they should give you more of a serving. The meal has a really good smoked taste and smell. They do not sauce the meat but give you a side of BBQ sauce.
