This is the first Thai spot my husband and I checked out since we moved to Austin. We ordered the Pad ka pow and moo ping for pick up and it was delicious! The pad ka pow was a bit too salty for me, but I just mixed in a bit more rice that we had at home :) however, the star of the show was the moo ping and the sauce it came with. I don't understand what went wrong. My wife and I tried the Pad Kaprow (spicy pork) and Om Gai (chicken stew) from the food truck at Radio and both were pretty terrible. I'm thinking it was late in the evening right before they were about to close and the quality went down. Maybe? Either way, we were so disappointed we could not finish the dishes. I'm hoping that this was an off night, and not the norm, but we won't be trying again. We will just wait in like for Veracruz like everyone else. I convinced my family to come here for dinner after I watched the video Munchies did on them. Let me say that the food here tasted just as good as the food looked in the video! I feel like the prices were a little bit pricey but justified. I really wanted to try their roasted chicken and Thai ice tea but unfortunately they were sold out. I made sure to try the Pad Kapow and was not disappointed. There was so much flavor in the minced pork and I really loved how they fried basil. The spice was of the dish was also just right but I did get the spiciness to be lowered (I like spicy food but I don't think I am ready to handle Thai spicy if you get what I mean). As a warning the fish have they give you on the side is extremely spicy the small chilies in the sauce are little but so spicy.The papaya salad and the pickled salad were very refreshing. Now I'm heading into a different part of Thai food. I usually go to Thai restaurants where the place offers a general overview of Thai food. Here's this is northern Thai food. I recognized some of the dishes but just an FYI - if you like spicy, this is your place. Now I don't do spicy. I know customers were asking about how spicy the food gets. They are hesitant on making special requests to tone down the spice because it's part of the flavor of the food. The furthest I can do with spicy is a medium at most. But I could have sworn everything was spicy. My saving grace was the Moo Ping which was pork skewers served with sticky rice and a little bit of spicy sauce which strangely enough I could tolerate. The Moo Ping is served on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They serve the sticky rice in a plastic rolled up ball which I felt wasn't necessary to do that. It was good. It actually reminded me of the pork skewers from Filipino food. As far as drinks is concern they have water, Thai Iced Tea and flavored spring water. read more

I have been stalking dee dee's mango sticky rice on Instagram for too long! Boy was it worth the wait! The mango was perfectly sweet and the sticky rice was just the right consistency and milkiness. I was so happy but then so depressed when I was done. Before dessert, I ordered the moo ping snack, which was actually perfect for me. It was basically 2 marinated pork on skewers with a side of rice (only $5). This reminded me of bbq on a stick that is pretty prominent in the Filipino culture. Needless to say I was extremely happy! The only negatives did not have to so with dee dee at all, but the environment. I got a million mosquito bites all over me last night. Dee dee is so great because they provide bug spray and citronella candles for use. But, mosquitos always find a way to get me. Also, I have the worst luck finding parking in east Austin. Overall great tasting food and great location. It's a food truck near Veracruz with nice outdoor seating. The mango sticky rice here also tastes really good; the mango tastes very fresh. Yum!! Came during lunch on a Friday and there was no line. However BEWARE, just because there's no visible line doesn't mean there isn't a big party that called in to place their order. It really is spicy(lab moo is extremely spicy and you can adjust spicy levels for other food) but DELICIOUS kind of spicy. I'd love to go back! And we did, the more we have the more we want. The truck is currently located at Radio Coffee and Beer. There is plenty of seating and there is a parking lot if the parking lot is full there is ample street parking along the venue. Drinks have to be ordered inside at the bar- such as if you wanted to order the Thai tea you have to order it at the bar even though it's on the DEE DEE menu. I can only comment on the Pad Kaprow! It's probably their more popular dishes- I highly recommend it. It's a solid spicy minced pork dish with rice and a side of sliced cucumbers. It is reasonably spicy- if you normally eat tacos with red or habanero sauce this should be okay for you. I would recommend the Som tom (papaya salad with normal spice) and pad ka pow (spicy beef---- my friend thinks the beef tastes like the ones you sprinkle on pizza... i couldn't unsee it and kinda agree with her) but nonetheless its filling! I had heard about this place from a few friends and finally got the chance to try it. It was raining like crazy and I was soaking wet even with an umbrella. I ordered and thought, this better be worth it. I ran back into the car in order to avoid the rain and dry off. I didn't know what to get, this place is truly unique and didn't recognize anything on their menu. There was no Pad Thai or Green curry. I decided to get the first two items I saw on the menu, Pad Kaprow and Om Gai. I also ordered the Mango Sticky Rice for desert. The person who checked me out was nice enough to text me when the food was ready. Once I got the text, I got out of my car and saw the rain had stopped completely. I picked up the food, brought it home and saw very clearly that this was so worth getting wet. I loved the egg and pork combo on the Pad Kaprow. The Om Gai sauce was wonderful and went well with the sticky rice. They were definitely spicier than expected but we still enjoyed it. But then came the desert and my day turned completely around. The one item that I had second thoughts on came out the best. The mango pieces were amazing, super juicy. The sticky rice, coconut milk and mango combination was heavenly. Whatever you do, you must finish your meal with this refreshing dessert. I attribute Dee Dee for stopping the rain and turning my day around. Five stars all the way. It is a food truck near a couple of bars on the east side with lots of picnic table seating. Unfortunately they do close kinda early so check the hours before you go. The menu only consists of about 6 items but the two I've had were awesome...pad ka pow and laab moo. I have been meaning to try the mango sticky rice, it ran out the last time I was there. It's a super plus if you like really spicy too. Laab moo is killer. The couple that owns are super nice as well...seems like the wife does the cooking and the hubby does all the front end stuff. The ratio and variety of veges is very well done, just a couple of pieces of broccoli and a few pea pods, VERY tasteful and chef-like in choices. +5! Ah if only it wasn't so non-chef-like SUPER oily -1, and if they only served a chicken version of it (they don't!) and it didn't take 21mins to get after order was placed and that too at 2:15pm in the afternoon! -1. We enjoyed the Om Gai, Pad Ka Pow and Mango Sticky Rice. All delicious and satisfying. The dill is a welcome surprise in the Om Gai broth. Homegrown basil makes a huge difference in the rice and pork dish. I am positive our mango sticky rice had an entire mango inside the box. Dee Dee's is a nice rustic food truck serving great and authentic Thai food. I say authentic because it doesn't have your typical food such as Pad Thai and Masaman Curry. This food is what the chef grew up eating. And it's amazing. I tried Om Gal since most dishes here have pork which I cannot eat. But like I said the Om Gal was fantastic and made me feel all nice and warm. Spicy. Sweet. Savory. Sour. Literally covered every tastebuds and was sooooo amazing. My friend fell in love with the Pad Ka Pow which I couldn't eat unfortunately. Even though this is a food truck this is by far the most authentic Thai food I've had in Texas. When I was in Austin, I had to move around my schedule, just to try this place! It is very good (and very spicy) Thai food! They have an outdoor seating area with heat lamps (it was freezing when we were there). The wait for the food was a while, so we just walked around a nearby grocery store to kill time. When we got the food, we ended up eating it in the car, because outside was so cold! It is something so different than I've had, but also very tasty! Tried every dish now and each is so authentic and unique to the region that it's unmatched or even comparable to any other Thai spot in the city. Spice levels are off the charts and just the average is enough. Add spice at your own risk. Pickup time is always on point and always comes well packaged and perfectly put together. Oh Lord, there are seven hundred reasons why trailers are annoying, but one reason to go - because the food's great. It's the shortest distance between a chef's "This is what I do," and your "Give me your best shot." I'll take Dee Dee any day. I know nothing about authentic Thai, and this niche of "Northern Thai street food" appears to involve lots of minced pork with home-grown basil. And lots of sticky rice. Wonderful stuff. Chef Lakana is also experimenting with fish sauces, and I could do her grilled pork skewers all day. Thanks Jack C. for organizing this awesome UYE and for putting this place on the map for us. Dee Dee is not only serving up some of the best trailer food I have tasted, Lakana and Justin are making some of the best Thai food I have tasted. The duo are both incredibly talented and kind. First things first, this food trailer park is both pup friendly and BYOB. During our visit we tried the following: Moo Ping - Choice of 2 or 5 perfectly marinated pork skewers with a side of delicious sticky rice and spicy tangy fish sauce. I loved everything I tried but the moo ping was my absolute favorite! Larb Moo - The larb moo is bursting with amazing flavors! This dish has spicy minced pork with Thai basil, lime, cucumber slices, cilantro and rice. Bonus eating this dish with your hands is encouraged. Pad Kapow - I hardy portion of stir fried pork, Thai basil with a delightful jasmine rice, cold cucumber and topped with a fried egg. Sticky Mango - We ended things on a pleasantly sweet note! Finally!!! It's been 4 long years I've lived in Austin with not good to just ok Thai food. Thai food is easily one of my favorite cuisines, but it's one I have not enjoyed while living here #1stworldproblems. Thanks to Justin and Lakana (the super sweet couple behind this food truck) there is now legit real Thai food here in Austin! Tried the Moo Ping (pork skewers), Pad Ka Pow (mint pork as my peeps in LA would call it), Som Tum (papaya salad), Mango with Sticky Rice, and their home brewed Thai Iced Tea. All were on point bursting with a full depth of flavor and wonderful textures. This, my dear friends, is what Thai food should taste like. Their sticky rice is exactly how it ought to be too where you can eat it with your hands like bread. Many complain about the continued influx of people moving to Austin. No doubt there are downsides, but few note the good that comes with it. An increase in diversity and a demand for better food are two positives and Dee Dee is a clear example of this. My husband and I love this place. When friends introduced Dee Dee to us way back when we didn't have a whole lot of expectations but boy did Dee Dee blow us away. Not living in Austin is hard but every time we do come to town we make sure to make a stop! We must always get the pad kapow regular spice (it's spicy but manageable), moo ping, thai tea, and mango sticky rice if we're realllly hungry. The pad kapow has so much flavor and the hint of basil just sets it over the top. The moo ping is so much flavor packed into two little skewers and the sticky rice is just the perfect compliment. Brand new to the Austin food truck scene, Dee Dee offers a selection of North Thai street food that's truly authentic and possibly addictive. Tucked in the back of the same lot as la Barbecue, owners Justin and Lakana are selling some seriously tasty home cooking. I decided to try all three of their savory offerings and came away impressed. Their pork skewers (Moo Ping) were amazing, marinated to perfection and freshly grilled. While there was enough flavor just in the meat itself, it came with a small container of spicy fish sauce for dipping. Loved their fish sauce as it was also a great accompaniment to the side of sticky rice. The Larb Moo and Pad Kra Pow were also equally delicious and both featured more well seasoned pork. The first is served with sticky rice while the latter comes with jasmine rice and fried egg. I can assure you both were devoured in record time... just too good not to be. I came here on a Sunday evening based on all the great Yelp reviews. There was plenty of parking nearby because LA Barbecue was closed. I walked up to the truck and was greeted with a smile. I was immediately warned before I got too excited reading the menu items that they were out of almost everything. He was very apologetic and explained they were just put in an article on culturemap that day and had an extremely busy day. I ordered what was available which was the last pad ka pow and om gai. I also ordered a Thai tea to wash it all down. I have to say I loved everything about this place from the customer service, food presentation, and taste of the food dishes. I will say both dishes have a nice kick to them so if you aren't into spicy, I didn't ask, but maybe they can make a less spicy version. I'm guessing the Mango with sticky rice and the skewers are probably not spicy so there is always that option as well. Tonight's menu consisted of the following: - Kow Man Gai Slowly poached chicken with chicken oil rice, mildly sweet and spicy fermented soybean sauce, light soup, cilantro, and cold cucumber. So many awesome flavors in each bite! - Moo Ping Thai pork skewers. Mildly sweet and savory with side of sticky rice meant to be eaten with your hands. Aww yiss! The Fresh spicy/sour dipping sauce is making my mouth water just thinking about it. Sluuuurrrrp! - Pad Kapow Moo Spicy stir fried pork with Thai basil. Comes with steamed jasmine rice, a side of chili fish sauce, cold cucumber, and a fried egg. WOOOO!! This was my favorite tonight! Amazing authentic flavorful northern Thai street food coming out of a food truck. We were hungry and impatient and didn't want to wait in the line for La Barbeque so ditched the line and went to Dee Dee. The food is prepared fresh when you order it by the husband and wife team who are the owners. We tried the Larb Moo, Pad Kapow, and Om Gai. All three were delicious and VERY SPICEY! The Larb Moo and Om Gai were served with delicious sticky rice patties that you could break off and dip in the food. There was no warnings that the default spice level is lip burning HOT! I usually get medium spice at restaurants, and this was even hot for me. They didn't even ask us what spice level we would prefer. Knowing this next time I will be sure to request the spice to be turned down a level or two. The Thai iced tea unfortunately used creamer and not coconut milk. Although my husband still enjoyed the flavor. I have been looking for delicious mango sticky rice and I have finally found it! The mango sticky rice is the real deal here. Soooooooo good. Dee Dee is one of the few places in Austin doing legit, authentic Thai dishes. No, not pad thai! We're talking stir-fried minced meat with basil. Sticky rice you eat with your hands. We went to Dee Dee last Wednesday or Thursday, and are already looking forward to our next trip! We parked in a neighborhood around the corner since this is on a busy street- just check signs and you should be good. We went early so there was no one else around eating yet, but the gentleman (owner?) at the window walked us through the menu. I mentioned my aversion to things to spicy and he gave me great suggestions and even asked his wife (I think? the one cooking!) to use less spice in my dish so I could enjoy it. My husband and I ordered the papaya salad and the Pad Ka Pow and we were really impressed. They were both so delicious- the papaya salad was so fresh and light on a brutally hot day, and the Pad Ka Pow was a serious kick of heat (when we added the extra hot sauce.) We wanted to try the mango rice but they said they weren't able to get good mango that day, but we're looking forward to trying it next time. I have been looking for some authentic Thai papaya salad for awhile and this place didn't failed me. The salad was full of flavor and of cause like all Thai food and how it should be: Super spicy! After a friend raved about it, I had to try it!! I came with a group of friends and we ordered the Pad Kapow and moo ping. Both were absolutely delicious. I love really spicy food so it was delicious but I could go spicier however if you don't like spice don't pour the extra sauce with peppers. I also got the sticky rice and Thai tea and both were good too. Mango was in season and Thai tea was perfect amount of sweetness. The only downside is it takes 15-20 minutes to get your food so keep that in mind. I will definitely be here again.... While it might seem like I'm bias based on the name of this joint, @deedeeatx is my new favorite Thai food in Austin. REAL, AUTHENTIC, DELICIOUS northern Thai food. Get the Pad Kra Pow Moo (pork), ask for it spicy, and thank me later. Closest thing I've had to the meals I enjoyed in Thailand.
