Deckman came to my house to look at the work required to repair my deck then they ghosted me. I called the rep and he didn't return my call.

I hired Deckman in March 2023 to build a new deck, and while the construction was completed within two months, Deckman failed to follow the proper process for obtaining a permit and scheduling the required county inspection. For over a year and a half, I made multiple attempts to resolve this issue with Deckman, but my communications were repeatedly ignored. As a result, I was left with an unpermitted and non-compliant deck. It was only after obtaining legal representation and sending a demand letter in January 2025 that Deckman finally completed the necessary requirements in March 2025--two years after the initial contract was signed. While I am satisfied with the finished deck and appreciate the efforts of the on-site Project Manager, the lack of responsiveness and failure to fulfill obligations made this an unnecessarily stressful and frustrating experience. I do not recommend Deckman at all. read more

We had our deck redone with Trex and Trex rail coating and they did a fabulous job! It was done quick and efficient and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend as we are looking to have them do the same thing on another house. read more

DeckMan did our deck replacement last September 2023 with Trex decking and repair of the existing wood railing and replacing 2 stairs. It was total frustration for us during the construction. There was no foreman on the job, very difficult to communicate with the workers as they can hardly speak english. Workmanship is very bad as they do it trial and error ( install and remove until it fits ) They forgot some materials that should be part of the job. We are very disappointed with the work. Be very careful. When we designed the deck it was to just be a simple rectangle - but they did not communicate this to their team and they recreated the old unwanted design of my deck instead. They tried to fix it but the design looks uneven as a result. Multiple texts to try and resolve -with calls promised but never received. Now - no response to emails or texts. Ghosting an unhappy customer is a lousy way to run a business. If you're working with these guys, double check everything. read more

After only the first season & the deck is peeling everywhere. I just had a painter give me a $2800 estimate to fix the mess Deckman created. He said they should have waited at least a day after power washing to allow the wood to dry before applying the product. Plus they should have allowed time for each application to dry before applying the next. That didn't happen at all, Deckman power washed and immediately starting applying the Superdeck product, one coat right after the other, no adequate drying, just a quick one day $6000 rush job and now it's a costly mess to correct. read more

I had my deck replaced last June, 2021. Mid January, I looked out my kitchen window and saw 1 section had come apart. The lower rail came out of the bracket. I called and Marcelo came out and looked and said he would get back to me. I paid cash. 3 weeks later I still have not heard and have called back and even sent an email to Marcelo. Read the comment on the Better Business Bureau site. It is identical. They are glad to take your money, but unwilling to repair a faulty part or poor installation. Kathleen M An update. When getting an estimate, your tech did the estimate, left the paperwork outside on our table and texted me while backing up in his vehicle saying they had to go to another estimate and to look over the paperwork. I had to go out and get the paper work.They didn't ask if I had and questions. They didn't stay to answer any questions, and when I texted back about it,they said they would come back later if I had any questions because they live near. That right there made us feel like we were not a priority and if that is happening when your company is trying to gain our business, what would happen if you did have our business. My experience was awful. ***UPDATE*** Just got a text from the tech that did our estimate and I don't think it was for me lol. See below: "Hmm..interesting...From beginning to end: I spent 20 minutes answering questions and walking the deck above and below with him before I even started measuring. It was a complex deck and situation, so the measuring and pics took about 20 minutes, meanwhile he went back into the house. By then I was running late for my next appointment, but since the next appointment was only a few minutes away, I texted him and told him I would be happy to come back. The entire text string is below. You can see his responses. I also sent him a very detailed price quote covering all of the issues we talked about. The info I left was generic DeckMan info, nothing specific to his project. Good morning this is Bob from Deckman checking in to see if we have an appointment this morning at 10 AM? It is listed in my calendar as 'tentative'. Let me know if we are meeting today or if you need to change anything. Thank you! Yes we still have a meeting today thank you for the text. I had to leave for my next appointment, but I left some info on the deck for you. I have a noon appointment today, just to drop off Trex samples and pick up a check about five minutes from your house, so I could swing back by after that if you want. I'm all set thank you When I send the price quote, I include my comments and various options, along with the prices for each. Hi this is Bob from Deckman following up on the first draft price quote that I sent to you recently. I would love to know your thoughts. Thank you and have a great weekend! That is copied word for word. In hindsight I probably should have touched base before I left but to be honest, he gave me the impression of a successful person who was very busy. I guess he was just offended by the lack of a personal touch there in the middle. I would have been back in 10 minutes anyway. I just went half a mile away to pick up the check that she left on her front porch. Live and learn!" So this is a text that the tech sent me today. I am figuring this was not supposed to be for me. This is extremely unprofessional. The text string above with me saying I'm an all set when he said he would come back was me being done with the company. As I stated, the quote was left outside. I was not important enough to stay as he was texting me as he was leaving in his car. He could have asked if I had questions and I told him I did before he left or could have managed his time better so he wasn't leaving a potential customer. After reading the new text he sent to me by accident just reinstates my decision to not move forward with the company. If that is how your company talks about a customer who has an issue, that is awful. " Live and Learn!" I strongly advise people to not use this company. Hired deckman to replace two support posts, fix some loose brackets holding my deck onto my house, and replace two railings. When one of the posts was installed too high, they came out the next day and fixed it. No questions asked and no excuses. Deckman repainted my clients balcony two years ago and it needed some touch ups on the paint. Since my client is a prior customer she thought it would be a simple process to have someone come out touch up where needed. Since she was not getting anywhere, I stepped in to assist with contracting Deckman. Unfortunately, after a month of multiple phone calls to Jasmine, Javier came out and accessed the situation, he took a huge piece of the deck (extremely noticeable) to use as a paint sample to match the color. Javier once again said Jasmine handles all the scheduling. My client tried unsuccessfully to contact Jasmine or anyone for that matter. Another two weeks have gone by and numerous phone calls to multiple numbers and people! No one calls back and when you get a friendly person to take a message, like Alaina yesterday, they still don't call back. Andy Mahoney/ Sales manager was called no response. Jasmine was called numerous times. Sometimes picked up the phone and said she would get back to us. Never has and now she isn't taking our calls or texts and her mailbox is full. Javier who did the work and took the huge paint chip off the deck has been called and text. No Response! Buyer beware!!! My client had a 10 year warrantied, water proof, premium coating applied. She was willing to pay something just to have them come out and take care it! Deckman will gladly take your money but obviously not guarantee their work. read more

We had several issues with work done by Deckman. The workers didnt have a copy of their work order and as a result performed work that had to be redone. They were decent in making that correction, including removing poured concrete. It just was tense in working with their supervisor. The workers when project was completed, instead of hauling away debris, spread it out in our garden and under bushes. We spent hours fixing this ourselves. It is very hard to get in touch with management which makes it difficult to resolve issues like this. In resolution, the manager said we would get a break on the final payment or a gift card. However this has yet to be fulfilled. Thus I would be wary of working with them. read more

The estimate process went smooth. Marcelo was very nice. The structural work appears sound. They did some extra work like paint the attached gate door. However... After paying the deposit, communication with production was minimal and not timely. There was also lack of communication between DeckMan and the workers. For the price, the work appeared rushed. I had to point out many errors like paint on my brick pavers and lattice, not painting the top of the privacy fence, plants that got painted into deck. Rene was responsive. These errors were corrected, but it would have been nice if the work was done well the first time. While this may just be me, all the nails are not straight which catches my eye repeatedly. They are also driven so far into the boards that it looks like a hail storm came and left its mark. I appreciate that we won't have to worry about cutting ourselves on nails sticking too far up, but the final product could have looked more professional. read more

Been trying for 2 years to have them honothe 10 year money back guarantee with no real response. They don't have any contact info for the company directly, not even an address. Very shady and wish I had done more research before hand. Only person you can speak with is a third party answering service that protects the company and screens any issue that isn't a new client. We had our deck resurfaced 2 or 3 years ago by deckman. The new coating was suppose to last 10 years, but soon started to bubble up and peel . Impossible to get any response from the company once they were paid. Sloppy work and later I found out I could purchase the same " exclusive to deckman " covering from the local Sherwin Williams paint store. I know I could have done a better job painting it myself. ALERT!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! We had them redo our deck three years ago to the sum of over $5000.00 , which was supposed to include a 5 year warranty on paint/coating. Obviously they sold us this warranty with no intent of EVER honoring it. Thank God we didn't get the 10 year warranty which would have been 1,000.00 more. We have been calling the company since April and still NO results. They eventually sent out a repair person to examine what needed to be done , he peeled off a portion of the paint that was bubbling profusely under the guise of using it for a sample and now it's the paint is really peeling in that area which is eyes view of everyone. His name is Xavier and now he is refusing to answer our calls. I have asked to speak to manager but because they use an answering service they say someone has to call us back . Right!!! Another lie. The paint/ coating is peeling and bubbling so badly that we have tried to cover them with rugs. Xavier said we would be responsible for replacing any rotted or decayed wood. We told him we have no problem with that and they still have not gotten back to us. If you wish to deal with a respectable company and one with an ounce of professional integrity than DECKMAN is NOT the company to choose. As per other reviews , they will gladly take your money , obviously the sales person ( ours was Andy Mahoney ) and Managers ( we dealt with Mel) will tell you anything to get your money with no intention of honoring their warranties or backing their work. Our deck was over 20 years old and showing its age. We didn't want a whole new deck but needed more than just a power wash. I just heard about deck restoration through another local company doing a lot of advertising but their quote was ridiculously high and their yelp reviews were horrible. I contacted Deck Man and the project manager Mo came to my house for an estimate. They are not the cheapest but they've done really good work. Replaced all the top rails, 14 boards and 3 steps. I have been very happy w their work and communication. Mo kept in touch by text and what I have appreciated the most is their attentiveness even after the work was completed. This is the worst business that has ever done work for us. We hired this company to rebuild our deck in early 2020. It was a disaster. The project took over 2 weeks to complete; we were told the project would be completed in 3-4 days at the most. Costs kept escalating because they were finding "problems" with the construction of the original deck. The workers were rude and sloppy. It took weeks to find all the screws, nails, and construction materials scattered over the lawn after the job was "completed". Neighbors complained because the workers would drive down the street at a high rate of speed. I explained children play in the area and they need to slow down but they ignored this advice. Even the workers complained about their co-workers being "incompetent" and "lazy". The paint is peeling and bubbling. There are some parts of the deck that were missed completely. Boards were cut too long and are warping, presenting a safety hazard from tripping. Wood used in the construction of the deck was damaged and cracked; their response was this was the only wood being sold by their wholesaler. The construction crew left a dumpster on the driveway for over a week so we had to park on the street, although their trucks would ride up on the lawn and occasionally damage plants and grass that had to be replaced. Parts of the deck are sagging; rain actually pools up in these sagging areas and will further damage the "new" deck when it freezes this winter. We made many requests to receive copies of any warranties and we have not yet received them. I was in the hospital for cancer and they rushed to finish the job while I was gone. If I were at home supervising this job some of these problems may not had occurred. I took many pictures and have extensively documented conversations with Mel, project leader, about the problems. They would promise to fix the problems but never did. After several months, they refused to take my calls or answer my inquiries. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but the BBB said they could not do anything because their inquiries were being ignored and Deck Man is not a member of the BBB. I will now be forced to file a complaint with Virginia's and Maryland's Attorney Generals. I am also going to pursue legal action. It will cost a lot of money to repair their mistakes. Deckman restored my deck in April 2017 with a 10 year warrantied proprietary waterproof, premium coating. The paint has begun peel off in numerous places. I've sent many pictures to the company and was told they would order the paint for me to do the repairs. At first I felt these issues should be addressed by Deckman, but since I'm having no success in even getting the paint, I've given up. I've left numerous messages to speak to a manager with no success. Often I've been told that a manager will call me within a day or two, but none has ever called. It seems that once Deckman has your money, they wipe their hands of you. I would not recommend them. read more

DO NOT USE DECKMAN! They sold us on some special paint, which is just from Sherwen Williams and is peeling/chipping in less than 4 months. The pergola leaks, wasn't sloped, they FINALLY responded via email and came out and epoxied the screw holes, it continued to lead, they FINALLY came out again to slope the roof like they should have done the first time, but now you can see new cut marks, old screw holes that weren't filled, etc. AND IT STILL LEAKS. I'll be taking them to small claims court to get our $5K returned because they aren't responding AGAIN and we are just tired, so tired of the calls, emails, bad attempts instead of just fixing it correctly one time. I have waited over a month before writing this review to ensure all the emotions I had didn't take over. I couldn't be happier to be done with this company and wouldn't even think to recommend them to anyone. For the amount of money that was spent to build our double level deck I know I could have gotten a better job and be more satisfied. I have already had to pay more money to finish the stairs to the ground that was left as a dirt hole at the bottom that was a watery mess. I shouldn't have assumed that some type of stone or platform was to be built with "stairs" I guess. This started as a project with my both my neighbor and I, who after witnessing what I went through has decided not to use this company for his project. After months of research and speaking with multiple companies we thought we felt confident that Deckman was the best option to get exactly what we wanted. They even came out 3 times prior to signing the contract to answer questions and review our wants and needs. We were definitely wrong. After signing the contract and putting my initial deposit down it was problem after problem and lie after lie. Even the communication between the "project manager" and crew wasn't good. On day 1 the"lead" crew member was on the phone arguing back and forth with his manager. This happened multiple times throughout the 3 months. I couldn't trust anything I was told and had to constantly ask questions and leave work to come and be home. It was a struggle to find out about when inspections were as I knew I wanted to be here to ensure all county regulations were followed. I made sure to be present for final inspection and glad I was as it failed initially and I knew exactly what needed to be done. The county inspector was so kind and answered all my questions and concerns. He even had questions around why some things were done the way they were and explained it was probably because it would have been more work but would have looked better. The reason I give 2 stars is because sadly the 2 young main workers that actually did the work and deserve the money were great and worked hard when they were actually here. Dealing with the company was a nightmare. If you decide to go with this company all I can say is buckle up and get ready for the ride. I signed an agreement to have Deckman repaint my deck with an epoxy based material because they gave me the impression there was a ten year money back guarantee. Perhaps I was to naive not to ask more questions about what was included in the warranty. After they finnished the job I had to schedule another visit for them to paint the lattice around the deck because that was ignored even though it was in the contact. They were also very sloppy with the paint, spilling some in my yard and painting a decent ammount of the actual house where it meets the deck and bannister including a 3 inch by 10 foot portion along one wall. The entire deck started to bubble up, paint and peel within two weeks. They have come back to the house on three different occasions but the deck still looks horrible and keeps cracking/bubbling and they have been unable to match the paint on my house with two different tries. On the third visit they left a pile of paint chips in the middle of my yard on a tarp in high winds overnight.They said because the paint on my house is old (four years old and looks great) that they cannot be expected to match it to repair their mistake. They are also saying that they will not reimburse me for the work they did because it is only a "ten year manufacturer warranty on the coating." After posting the initial version of this review the supervisor who I had been my point of contact then sent me several personally insulting and inappropriate text messages where he called me names and then threatened to leave nasty reviews online of my small business (please see screen shot pic). The owner then contacted me and apologized for his employees behavior and asked how he could make things right. I explained that I do not want them at my house again because of all their mistakes and that I wanted reimbursed because I have to pay someone to redo the whole deck and repaint the portion of my house that they painted on. He said he would get back to me right away and that he would give me money back if I took down this review. After not hearing back for over a week I contacted him. He said he would repaint the a railing and power wash my driveway or give me $400 back and reiterated that It was conditional on me taking down this review. I read more

Using Deckman to complete our deck project was one the best decisions i have made. The original project was supposed to be removing a section of the deck that was rotting. As they began that project, Brandon the project lead, said they would work with me on cost so that we could get the rebuilt deck stained with a 10 year warranty stain product. We then added even more work to the project by having them build new deck over a section of the deck which used to hold a hot tub. Deckman worked with us for each phase of the project to get it within my budget. The finished product looks amazing!! These guys do great work, and are one of the only companies who came to give us a quote to repair the deck rather than try to sell me a whole new deck. They did a poor job for installing a patio. Found out they are not licensed. A license contractor will not take more than 1/3 of down payment. The supervisor never came to the site while work was being done. No mesh was placed in the cement. The step they installed looks awful and uneven. They used cheap stone and not the ones we requested. Further its uneven and someone can trip. No communication between the workers and their supervisor. Will file a complaint with consumer affairs division in my county. Now we have to tear it down and repair all over again. read more
