We loved our experience with A&L so much that we asked them to rebuild our old deck as it was starting to age and get a little wobbly (like me). We asked for Earl to come back since he did such a terrific job building the screened in portion of the deck a few years earlier. We went to a party at my boss's house and complimented them on the really nice screened-in porch they have. My boss's wife raved about how great their contractor was and told us all about what a great experience they had, and then they gave me their A&L Construction business card. My wife and I weren't sure how much it would cost or if we could afford it, so we contacted Keith from A&L Construction, and he came out and did an estimate for us last summer (summer of 2018). Then we had a ballpark amount of money we needed to save up, so we started setting money aside to do it later. Fast forward to February 2019, we were starting to think about our son's high school graduation and wanting to have a graduation party for him, and wouldn't it be nice if we could get a new screened-in porch done in time for his party. I contacted Keith, half expecting him to say, sorry we're booked / too busy and/or, sorry we need to redo your estimate and it's going to cost more. I was wrong on BOTH counts. He honored the initial estimate he did for us last summer, and he said no problem, they could get it done in time for our graduation party. Much to my surprise, they are very different from other contractors in that they want ZERO deposit and don't expect you to pay a DIME until the project is completely DONE. I think a lot of other contractors want you to pay a deposit, and then they want full payment when the job is like 80 to 90% done, and then they never come back to finish the last 10% little odds and ends. Not with A&L. They completely finished the job before we wrote them ONE check for the entire amount. I interacted with Keith doing all the paperwork and submitting the modification request to our HOA modifications subcommittee for approval. Keith took care of getting all the county building permits. Keith wanted to start pretty fast after the building permits came through. He called me on a Thursday night to say the building permits were approved and he wanted to start work on Monday. We spent Friday and Saturday getting all the stuff off our deck. The guy who actually did all the manual labor was Earl, and he was awesome. This is all he does is go around building fabulous screened-in porches all the time. I was very glad I made a point to meet with Earl face-to-face on Saturday morning before he started work on Monday so we could make sure everything we wanted was accurately captured in the contract paperwork Keith gave him. Earl is FAST. I think he took about 6 or 7 business days to completely demolish and remove our old deck and completely build our new screened-in porch. We have neighbors down the street who started building a screened-in porch weeks before us, and they were still working on building it weeks after ours was done. Of note, the estimate and construction with A&L was all for the physical porch itself. Keith recommended a great guy named Miguel to come do electrical work, install a ceiling fan and lights and power outlets for us. I guess Miguel works with them a lot, and he's familiar with how Earl builds the decks and where to route the wires, etc. You will want to factor in the electrical work into your budget though. Our screened-in porch is my new favorite room of the house. It really did add a room to our house. We're out there all the time now. I love sitting out there at twilight, watching the fireflies and listening to the frogs in the nearby pond. Keith saved the day! We had drama with a different contractor who almost ran off with our money so we turned to Keith to build our deck. He was fast and efficient with permit submission and scheduling our deck build. I fully expected to have to wait a long time to have our deck installed but Keith fit us into the schedule in such a short time period. A & L Construction just completed a 3 season sunroom form. They did a wonderful job and I had an excellent experience working with them. My project carpenter, Earl, is extremely skillful and efficient. His craftsmanship is outstanding! Despite having to bring in lots of equipment to build the room, my garden had no damage. I can't say enough about the job the they did! We actually found thru angieslist reviews. From start to finish from the communication, execution and construction was absolutely phenomenal. They actually came to us after we made a deposit with another company that still hadn't started 2 months later. Keith and Earl were able to fit us in within 3 weeks and complete a beautiful screened deck in record time. I appreciated the straightforwardness regarding the design and pricing, I felt like they listened to my ideas and executed flawlessly. With the other company we had many convos, diagrams, meetings about details and somehow things still weren't right. I had one face to face conversation about what I wanted with A and L and never had to repeat it again! Earl worked until the project was complete, there was no working here and there or hoping back and forth to other projects. Additionally not having to front any money until the project was completed took a lot of stress off of us; considering the previous company took money without a projected start date. Keith, one of the owners, went out of his way to get us through zoning hurdles in the historic district where we live.
