Our deck was almost 20 years old and consisted of a builder grade composite decking material. The planks were deteriorating to the point of breaking down to powder. The support beams were warping and seperating in multiple locations. I didn't feel the deck was in a safe state. His estimate was extremely fair, compared to other options I received. His team worked through the HOA and county permit process, and they kept me up to date with the progress. What amazed us during construction is the quality of Deck Envy's crew. Everyone on the team is experienced and skilled. They worked diligently at each phase of the construction in a timely fashion. While being meticulous about every detail, they left no stone unturned to make sure all technical details were taken care of. It is also worth noting that they always kept the site neat and clean. And we are so happy that the construction did not affect our lawn, and only caused minor damages on the patio floor when removing old posts and installing new ones, but they lost no time to sent a patio team to fix it right after construction. The quality of work was great and you can tell they do a wonderful job at what they do. We had a Trex deck and a concrete patio installed. The communication piece was awful from start to finish. My husband or I did not feel like we were involved in the process. I was put off about colors and sizes of the deck and told that we would discuss later once it was needed. We just needed to get it in for the HOA approval. I felt rushed. :( We were not informed about the size of the patio or retaining wall or that it would be extra to add steps or a railing. Or what was up to code??? The crew would show up at different times. Forget about my job and getting to work. I was trying to be considerate of them but it was not the other way around. It should not be that way. Very disappointing. I would have paid a lot more to have the HOA piece handled and have an office staff reach out to me like the other contractors. read more

Deck Envy was recommended to us by my husband's colleague because they did good work for an affordable price. Deck Envy replaced our wooden deck with a slightly larger Trex one and they replaced our untouched backyard with a flagstone patio. I was referred to Deck Envy by a general contractor I have worked with previously. I contacted Johnny and let him know I was interested in building a screen in porch and patio. Pretty much immediately Johnny responded. We made an appointment. During the appointment we discussed my requirements and Johnny walked me through the process. He explained he owns the business with his partner Ricardo who is the operations manager. After the first meeting Johnny was very approachable throughout the process (still is) and fun to work with. He provided all documents for HOA approval, made it very easy for me. (I have a very strict HOA) Ricardo was on site everyday and hands on. They showed up on time everyday and did a great job cleaning up daily. Their workmanship is incredible, best I've seen. Their measurements for each part are precise, no visible gaps on joints. From the start, we knew we wanted a composite deck for the low maintenance, no splinters, rot, etc. However, past that, we didn't know about the different brands or levels. Johnny did a great job of explaining the differences between the various products on the market and why Deck Envy only uses the top of the line TREX product. Deck Envy LLC - A Stellar Company I normally dislike writing reviews because of my past experiences with several Prince William County contractors and the experiences have been negative. I have finally found a professional company who has delivered what the contract required and much more. I started my decking contractor search in February 2021. I had 4 contractors provide estimates and one of them was Deck Envy, a fairly new company to the market. Johnny Vo came to my house - he was very careful to be in compliance with COVID Protocols; others were NOT. Johnny took his time, took measurements, went under the deck (guessing) to see how the old deck was fastened to the house (no one else did). He explained how my drawn-up plans showing how and where I wanted a step, a staircase and a concrete pad - were not in an optimal design. The single-step from the back door (which the other contractors had no problem following my design to put in three-sided wrap around) which looked great on paper and cost an additional $400, but Johnny pointed out (again the only one) that it cut into the flow of the deck and crowded the egress to the stairs. Now that the deck is finished, He was absolutely right. When I received the estimate from Johnny, I was pleasantly surprised. The fact that the project was priced fairly (even during this high lumber cost era), I was shown corrections (options) to my design thought process. Most importantly, my wife felt extremely comfortable and felt that Deck Envy was the "Honest Broker" out of all the vendors. Johnny supplied us with all the documentation required for our HOA (ours is fairly strict) and even responded to the management company's request for information. The dreaded HOA approval was a walk in the park. Ricardo (Johnny's partner) and his crew came out on a Monday to do the demolition of my old deck. The crew was 3 minutes early which happened throughout the entire project. During the demolition and subsequent phases of the project, Ricardo and his guys kept the area clean and organized - how they did this while demolishing a 32x16 PT deck was pretty impressive. Ricardo is a quiet guy who knows his stuff!! He kept the crew engaged at all times. If one of the crew was standing around waiting, Ricardo had them running a magnet over the work area. This was done consistently and I have yet to find any screws or nails. The crew was very respectful of our neighborhood - no garbage flew around. They parked where people had no issues getting out of driveways - they practiced common courtesy. The deck took shape and we passed our inspections. We had a glitch with the step from the back door. It blended in perfectly with the rest of the deck and it was extremely hard to see. Ricardo came up with a solution which completely blew away my suggestion. He came in between jobs, took the stair apart, added lights and an additional 4 inches to the width, no more problem. I truly cannot say enough good about this company. Other Contractors should mirror Deck Envy's business model. The neighbors couldn't wait to come and see the final product. They were all impressed and commented on how little disruption this project and the Deck Envy caused. My challenge is now getting the landscape to look as good as the deck!!
