I can only write about my own experiences here as a student in the Software Development course from one of DCI's centers, so take this evaluation with a grain of salt from someone with a tendency to be unsociable and losses all feelings in their legs during a test. First off, from what I have seen when I first began the program, it was a bit of a mess. Instructors who seemed to have little coordination between themselves and students, some assignments that took a general account and assumption that everyone had the same level of experience within a singular programming language (I had C++ experience but had to learn C# from scratch), little interaction whenever a course had been updated and little to no cohesive resources for students. Of course, things got steadier over time quite fast within the first few months with new instructors, new methods for general contacts, consolidated study resources and even projects integrated for the course you are taking i.e. Software Developer students working on web pages from scratch or working on individual projects that can be presented to potential employers. As someone who prefers to work alone and interact whenever something important needs to be said or done I appreciate that I am not constantly hounded by instructors treating me like I do not know how to turn on a computer (true story, college was and still has instructors that bad). While there is at least one instructor who is almost this invasive he at least has good intentions to help students, even if he oozes pretentiousness. Secondly, while still on the subject of the courses, they are a rough outline of what you can expect to have to study for. Just as tech keeps changing, so too, does the outline for each course as well as which courses are available. Before I joined they actually had a game development course, which I would have taken at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately, they most likely did not have anyone interested in it at the time so it was removed and I ended up taking Software Development. Not much of an issue since I have experience in scripting and game design. If only I had known it would be C# I could have braced myself for impact. Not my best first impression for DCI but, I managed to pick it up fairly quickly nonetheless since it shared many similarities to C++. Live and learn, c'est la vie. As it turns out, the next batch of SD students had a more refined outline than I did when first starting out so it showed me DCI takes feedback seriously. They even give you the option to take any new parts that were added to the course i.e. when Javascript was introduced in the new course I was given the option to do it as well. Third, when it comes to test taking, I did have one issue early on where it was not made clear that the Test Vouchers give you two attempts and that the second attempt expires within the same month the voucher is used. Of course it was not mentioned we should go over the rules for the voucher on Pearson's site. Hence, when I failed my first attempt I did not know this and to my own detriment did not think of going over the FAQ myself. Thankfully they did give me a new voucher and DCI paid for it out of their own pockets. Although, I should mention that the Pearson VUE site had a tendency to freeze sometimes (thankfully it also froze the timer so I lost no time... which did help me calm down a little). Now, there were times early on when the vouchers got mixed up or lost but, DCI managed to set things straight fairly fast. If memory serves correctly the longest someone waited to get a new voucher after a mix up was two days due to a holiday. Overall, these have been my experiences from time spennt in the program right off the top of my head. Was it perfect when I first started? HA! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! (think of J. Jonah Jameson laughing) Did it get better and they actually improved the courses and resources as an IT program? Definitely. read more

DCI does IT training exactly how IT training should be done and their expansion over the past year speaks more authoritative of this fact then anyone else can. IT is a rapidly changing field more so now than ever before. By the time an institution can create a course, refine it, edit it and have it approved that course is old news and even if it was cutting edge when started it's no longer is at time of release. In fact, it might not even be the accepted best practice. DCI offers an alternative to this that should be more attractive to potential employers than to potential students speaking volumes of its true worth. Instructors who are active in their fields with years of experience and reputation to back them up. A vast library of training resources available to both present and past students and top of the line equipment with which to experiment on. While career tracts have a rough guideline of certifications and suggested training modules they are just that, rough guidelines and suggestions. The reality of the situation is multiple instructors that sit down with you one on a daily basis customizing your learning to not just your weaknesses but to your individual areas of unique interests. This creates an experience that provides to you the breadth of knowledge needed to break into a new industry and an area of focus that you are passionate about with in-depth skill, knowledge and hands-on training in which to excel and propel you to the top. I have yet in my time at DCI to have an instructor tell me that something cannot be done. I have however had instructors time, and time again tell me why it should not be done that way and how the right way to do it is. Instructors take your learning personal, working with you be it for hours or days one on one with concepts that you may have trouble grasping. I have been through multiple training schools, online courses, as well as 6 years of hands-on experience in IT and can finally say thanks to DCI and a persistent instructor subnet properly and rapidly in my head. I look forward to showing up daily for classes and lectures with instructors that turn to students to be continually challenged and in turn challenge each student to be better. I am truly thankful to the TechHire Grant and even more so yo DCI for the invaluable training I have received and the continual examples set by all staff of what I should strive to be. read more

Horrible experience. Do not ever schedule to take an exam here. Couldn't take my exam, left with no information, 2 weeks later after 20 unanswered phone calls and 5 voicemails I get an email from the loser owner, Derrick, telling me how basically his company doesn't financially benefit from being a test center (like I care? Don't be a test center then) and blamed Pearson VUE for everything, then said he was going to contact my employer to let them know I was very rude. Lol. Okay, DCI is apparently run by twelve year old man babies. Got it. Anyway, if you're looking to take an exam here do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. It's also a terrible spot which literally shares a building with felons checking into parole offices. Been in the IT industry for over a decade and have never dealt with incompetency or behavior like this. read more

Bar none, the go to place in Connecticut to get your career started in IT. I came into DCI not knowing which of the million career paths to get started in, and interacting the supportive instructors, admins and wonderful classmates helped me forge a clear path. I went from virtually undesirable as an employee to companies contacting me left and right -- and that's without a linkedin profile. Most people I know think DCI is too good to be true, where else would you have the cost of industry standard IT certifications covered for you in an environment that fosters a straightforward hands-on approach to your studies? DCI is certainly one of CT's best kept secrets and anyone especially 18-24 who not involved in this program, in today's climate, is wasting their time. I just wish this was around when I was coming out of high school! read more

I am so grateful for DCI resources! Being a recent graduate of their cyber security training; they had already done so much for me in that they provided me the skills and toolset that I needed to succeed in my new profession. As if that was not enough; they still continue to help me with my career months later! I am so amazed and grateful that I can turn to DCI for anything whether it be simple advice or resources to keep me competitive in the field. DCI has not only helped me start a career in I.T. but has also reunited a fire inside of me. I was always passionate about I.T. and loved computers but sometimes life has other plans and you don't always get to chase your passions. When I was given the opportunity to take one of the DCI paths of learning I jumped on it and it has honestly changed my life. I finally had a path layed infront of me and after taking my first certification I was hooked on learning again. Very helpful at starting your career in the tech industry. They guide you in preparation for completing certifications through lectures, online resources, and practice evaluations. If you are in the TechHire government program and are eligible for it, then there is no cost to you either, even for taking the certification exams! They are also a testing center, which is convenient if you are part of the program. With amazing communication and teaching skills from the instructors i was able to passing my Comptia A+ 901 exam with ease,and now im more than confident that i can get my certificate's i want with the help of DCI.
