Richard and Lew are kind and true professionals. I hired them to move my belongings from the home into a storage unit and both gentleman were fast, professional, and friendly. I had asked beforehand if I could book an extra hour if I needed it and both gentleman worked honestly and diligently, and I ended up not needing to book the extra hour (they didn't slow down their work even knowing I would have been willing to book an extra hour if I needed to) I was truly impressed by how they handled my stuff with care and efficiency. I was nervous to have two strangers in my home but Richard and Lew have kind demeanors that put me at ease. I had no intention of hiring movers to complete the second half of my move when I started this process, but after meeting Richard and Lew I have decided to hire them to help move my stuff across several states. Richard and Lou moved a ton of furniture and other heavy, medium, and small items out of our home, all handled with a smile and a super-high level of professionalism. They were willing to help in any and all ways related to the job and for that we were most grateful. The online sign-up was a little confusing but the admin people helped figure it out and gave us what I thought was a really fair price for the work. I was amenable to paying via Venmo but missed that we had to pay immediately upon completion of the job, so was not prepared for that. Something for others to keep in mind. I recently booked with top choice. They were three days late, often unresponsive, and broke two of my coffee tables. I give them two stars rather than one because they did offer me a full refund of my deposit and agreed to take $200 off of the quoted price. I definitely would not recommend them, but they did their best to make things right in a situation where there were some logistics that were out of their control. Still, this was definitely the most stressful moving experience I've ever had. There were many things that they could have controlled but neglected. I originally booked a Wednesday special, which they agreed to do for $710 since it was near the end of the month. The tire blew out on their truck, leading to a series of issues with Uhaul including: the drivers forgetting their licenses and being unable to rent a truck, one of the drivers being in debt with uhaul and again unable to rent a truck, a mover being rear ended while on his way to uhaul the next day, the mover forgetting to bring a physical credit card to uhaul, forgetting to charge phones and schedule child care to enable responsiveness and punctuality. The owner did not go out of his way to keep in touch with us and I spent many hours feeling incredibly frustrated. read more

I hired them in late February of 2023. It was a bad experience that I will not soon forget. They had no moving pads. I was on a deadline and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt as the day got worse and worse. It was a 3 stop move (main house, storage bin, second house) and they only completed 2 out of 3. Even the 2 parts of the move they left several large items in garage that I asked them to take to basement. The person they sent (Richard plus a helper) demanded I make a side deal to get the third part of move done and keep it a secret from owner because the owner abuses him. Late in the day he started ranting about Covid being fake, cancer not being real, Atlantis, and a number of conspiracies about medical treatment suppressing cures and Melatonin because he saw a book on Atlantis in my boxes. I ended up paying DC Top Choice the full amount for move plus half more to Richard for a move he then did not start or complete that was supposed to be part of the move in the first place. A long text chat with Mr. Robin revealed him to be dishonest, incompetent and have a dozen excuses and literally claim "moves are like baseball games, some are losses some are wins" and tell me all his financial woes and that he makes no money on jobs he sets the price for. That chat has so many bizarre unprofessional excuses and rambling by Mr. Robin and trying to blame me for a TV they broke which anyone including me could have moved without damage. They broke other things but I lost interest in documenting it for a owner that clearly would never take responsibility and have his insurance company reimburse me. And so many "woe is me" I make no money in the moving business every time I chatted by text or called him. My wife moved 5 x the volume of what I moved with a different highly competent mover with no incident. I used her movers to finish the move DC Top Choice Movers botched on every level. I was too busy with move and a new consulting assignment and home renovations on my new larger home to sue them out of principal though they deserved it. This site is full of him blaming customers, and denying their legit complaints, and even saying they are liars and negative people. That tells you all you need to know - avoid DC TOP CHOICE MOVERs. Use a different one of the competent professional companies who will deliver what you paid for without the drama. I used a better company to finish the job they left 2/3 done. The other moving company did a competent job at a fair price with no drama. I paid what DC TOP CHOICE MOVERS quoted me - his stories about not making money are just bizarre and unprofessional. I even filled the Uhaul gas tank on my dime and bought the workers a late lunch. HE SET THE PRICE OF THE MOVE NOT ME. In the four decades I have hired workers and companies, paid their rates plus any adjustments based on more work than they estimated, and give generous tips for good work. The damage, incompetence and bizarre extra demands by Richard who seemed crazy enough I paid just to get him out of home made this the move from hell. Mr Robin of course threatened to sue me for breach of contract if I left a review calling out this bad moving experience I had. Yes, he was paid in full the amount he set, and he also begged me not to sue Richard for the extra money demanded I paid in fear. Because Richard "was going to lose his kid unless he came up with money quick" so I should not "ruin his life". Worst most unprofessional incompetent bizarre experience in my 4 decades of paying people for work. The movers and the owners do not belong in the moving business at all. DC TOP CHOICE MOVERS is not a consistently good moving company and any attempt to get them to be accountable will result in them blaming you, the Uhaul company, the movers that you should have told him to replace mid job, but NEVER just doing the job well at the rate they set with no drama. read more

RUN FARRRR AWAYYYYY!!! This has been one of the most traumatic moving experiences EVER! Do not book with this company!!! The owner, Robin will scam and harass you into paying for more than what you already paid for!!! I had paid in advance for 2 movers for 2 hours to arrive between 11 and 12. I received a call from Robin asking if it could be pushed back to 12:30. Fine. Once 12:30 came around, only 1 person showed up named Richard. He told me that he was not sure where the other person was, but there was someone 5 minutes away on call. 15 minutes go by and Richard tells me his boss is not answering the phone and no one is returning his calls. I then call Robin who begins to ramble on about how the other person was in a car accident that ended up in the hospital and how I need to relax as he is trying to find another person. Crazy I thought! Mind you, while Richard is waiting for a second person to arrive he doesn't move anything out except 4 chairs and some couch cushions for 1 1/2 and declined our help so we could move things quicker. Being the kind person I am, I did tip him because he was only good thing that came out of this situation. I could tell he himself was being used by the owner and it was sad to see how he was being treated. Once the second person arrives after 2 PM!!, he was told he was only there for 15 minutes just to load the couch and complained the whole entire time about not getting paid enough for this....interesting. By 4:45 everything was moved out. Robin then calls me demanding I pay him more money because he was going to lose money on this job continuously blaming me for his inconvenience. I am not a confrontational person and this man was attacking me and victim blaming the entire phone call. He wanted me to pay for the time Richard was there alone when he did not do much of anything at all until the second person arrived. His scheme is to purposefully extend the time the mover(s) are there to get more money. Interestingly enough, other Yelp reviews mentioned that he uses the same excuse for only proving 1 mover due to someone being in a car accident. It's so wild!!! Robin begins calling me back to back, texting from different numbers, and emailing novels about how I am liar and I am stealing from him leaving voicemails and demanding I do not leave a review. So here I am leaving a review because Uhaul recommended I call the police and this guy is a con artist who prays on innocent people and is a narcissist if I ever have seen one!!!! I wouldn't trust the positive reviews. Look on Yelp, and many negative reviews on Google, at how the owner responds to negative feedback. The owner, Robin, personally attacks customers that leave negative reviews, claims they are fake customers, and has even revealed personal information on Yelp, such as name and employer. Childish and unprofessional. If things go wrong (and it looks like it's not frequent, but neither is it unheard of), the best you can expect from Robin is rude replies and insults. That was my experience too. Too bad. Politeness and willingness to work with customers tends to go a long way. I don't know who I'll recommend for movers in the DC area now, but I now know who I will recommend avoiding. read more

We chose them through U-haul to load and Robin was very responsive, maybe a bit nervous cause there are demanding customers with last minute details. I was like "dude, let's just make it work?" I know he said there were several emails and texts but I did only get one and thankfully he reached out to figure it out... his guys mike and I forgot other ones name, they were awesome awesome, nice nice nice!! We finished up a 26footer full in 2.5 hours!! I booked them for 4? I gave them hopefully they feel a good tip. I will be calling them again!! read more

Choose this company if you want your furniture broken, your house damaged, you like listening to someone whine about this not being their fault and, oh, you feel like filing a police report (on the advice of the police and U-Haul's Moving Helper service) because of the volume of harassing emails and texts. I had posted an earlier review on several websites about this company and agreed to take them down after DC Top Choice Movers agreed to refund the service fee of a few hundred dollars - a lot less than the thousands in damage they caused and which they refused to do anything else about. I missed taking down one review because by that point I had blocked their texts and messages - so they then went on to take the refund back via PayPal (another company I will never use again). The follow though with the company was excellent up until the day of the move, on that day i received a call about 30 minutes after the expected arrival time asking if the mover where there yet to which i informed them no one arrived. I received a text about 30 minutes later, so 1 hour after the expected arrival time, saying that they were looking for another team to fulfill their contract. Not knowing what time that team would arrive, or if they would arrive at all, i cancelled the contract. I now have been on hold for over 30 minutes trying to get a refund. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID...unless you'd like your belongings destroyed and then called a liar to boot! While the movers were both very nice, I had to ask them 3 times to use the furniture pads I rented. They placed my wooden furniture finished side down several times, causing a great deal of scratching/abrasions on surfaces, as well as two holes in walls. I provided Robin (owner) photographic evidence of destruction, but he reported that because I carried boxes on the day of the move, he was free from any responsibility AND that he had asked his workers and they said that my husband and I destroyed our own furniture, makes perfect sense, right? I made a complaint same day, and was accused of lying because I did not mention my issues to owner during a wrap up phone call, which was 1.before I could even step foot in my apartment to survey the damage that happened, and 2. on one of the movers phones because Robin would not call me himself to close out. My biggest complaint is lack of accountability on Robin's part, and the verbal abuse and accusations. If you scroll through these Yelp reviews, you can see that he verbally abuses anyone who provides poor reviews, so I'm expecting it here too. The two movers were friendly, and offered to pack things in their own cars the day of the move, which was helpful. But the damage they caused to my property pretty much negated that and more. Additionally, they did not seem to know how to pack a truck efficiently, they had to be instructed every step of the way. read more

We used this company while moving from a 1 BR apartment to a 2BR apartment one building over. We did not rent a truck, so it was ferrying items across the way on a hand truck or furniture dolly. Why is "0 stars" not an option? From start to finish, working with Robin was tragic. I emailed this so-called business to setup the move, requesting a phone call to coordinate things. I was told the preferred method of communication is email because the owner is soooooo busy and does not have time to call me. I paid for 2 movers for 2 hrs. They stayed a little over an hour and a half. Before leaving, one of the movers pestered me incessantly about leaving a tip. He went so far as to call me days later to ask where it was because he had not received it. He asked me to Venmo the tip (while he stayed on the phone) and send a screenshot. Absurd. After leaving my review online, Robin texted me, asking about the 3-star rating I gave them on "Professionalism". He instead thank his lucky stars I didn't give a 1-star review. He sang a sad song about how the review was hurting his business and offered a full refund if had the review removed. I went out of my way to work to remove the review. After doing so, I received numerous text messages from both Robin and one of the movers. The novels Robin texted me were lectures about how I hurt a small business, should feel awful, and am a terrible human being. It was as if I had to be subjected to continuous harassment to get this refund he promised. Haven't received a refund to date! Shocker. read more

I found DC Top Choice Movers through Uhaul/MovingHelp.com. Some of the reviews here on Yelp made me wary of my decision, but that's why I've decided to leave one of my own and let you know I would absolutely use this company again. My move was booked barely over a week in advance and they responded immediately, requesting run-of-the-mill details: loading/unloading addresses, summary of items, delicate or difficult items of note, and location terrain. I had a few questions related to my booking since it was done through a third party, and we emailed back and forth for a couple of days. Each time Katherine and Robin responded promptly, within an hour or two. The night before I disassembled any furniture I could, and moved the bulk of it to the room they would be using to get in and out of my apartment. I also put the furniture pads in that room, as Robin stressed the importance of renting them multiple times throughout our correspondence. Morning of, I was coming in from Virginia and received a call from the guys around 6:45am (we were scheduled for a 7:00am move) to let me know they were stuck in traffic and should arrive around 7:15/7:20. I was relieved, because I was also caught up in traffic on 395. We all convened at my apartment shortly afterward and it was straight to business. The two movers helping me immediately began wrapping up my furniture in the pads with cling-wrap they brought. If I thought to take a photo you would've been impressed - my headboard and armoire looked like they'd been professionally gift wrapped, and they did this for all of my furniture in a matter of minutes. Within the first half-hour, the truck was loaded and we were ready to hit the road. This was moving items from a shotgun-hallway English basement apartment with three narrow doorways, one covered by a staircase. They also helped me load my 55" TV into my car, since I would be driving that separately from the furniture in the truck. The same two guys helped me load, drive, and unload - when we arrived at my house in VA, they requested a quick walk-through to confirm where everything should go. They carefully unloaded everything and even unwrapped it all, cleaning up/discarding their plastic wrap and folding/stacking the furniture pads back in the truck. I requested 3 hours for my one bedroom apartment + travel time/distance of 30 miles from downtown DC to the VA 'burbs. The three hours turned out to be a perfect time frame and we lucked out with the weather. Everyone I dealt with from this company was professional, polite, and prompt. I'm grateful they were there for me and this move, because it saved me so much stress and trouble. I highly recommend DC Top Choice Movers for their incredible service, most especially because it's offered at a reasonable price for the level of professionalism they upheld. read more

My movers George and Corey were fantastic! I bought services for load/unload and driving. The movers showed up on time to the U-haul location and drove the truck to my storage to pick up my items. They moved everything quickly but efficiently and safely. We also had to get gas and they were able to assist with that process without any incidents. They were very careful with all my furniture and covered up items so they would not get scratched or damaged. At my apartment they unassembled my bed and other furniture for me and they managed to not lose any screws :) Again they worked quickly as to not waste any time since I booked them for 6 hours. At my house they even moved a fridge to my basement for me because I asked. They went above and beyond and removed the doors so that they could fit the fridge through and get it in the right place. When they couldn't get my armoire up the stairs they didn't give up and say it couldn't be done, George tried to take it apart but realized it wouldn't work so he improvised and took off my banister and was then able to get the armoire upstairs where I wanted it. Corey did a great job putting everything in my bedroom where I wanted, even though I wasn't even sure where I wanted it. He installed my bed and put my mirror back on my dresser. DC Movers did a fantastic job and they were sooo reasonably priced. I had got quotes from other companies but they were very high and I decided against them. I'm glad I got DC movers and am recommending them to everyone I know. I couldn't have done the move without them. read more

The two moving professionals arrived early completed the move in under 2 hours which was my optimistic completion time. The movers were both very efficient and professional. I also hired the movers to drive the u-haul, and despite the last minute change the professionals were super helpful and ontime for the move. Following the move the driver offered to return the rental truck so I could go on with my day and still made it within the 2 hour window booked. I booked them through U-Haul's website and locked in a good rate ( sixty-five or seventy per hour, I believe). Only a couple of tiny mishaps, but no damage -- there are always mishaps when moving, mind you -- and these two guys did a generally very good job of moving our stuff, fitting it into the truck, and being very polite and respectful throughout. Not one item got broken (And I have a lot if glass topped modern furniture). They were professional and very courteous and cared for my stuff as if it were their own. Very professional and punctual, he had my move scheduled right away, the very next day, since me and my wife were in a very big rush. Amazing customer service skills. The moving team was very professional and pleasant to work with. They had blankets for our furniture. Not a single scratch on all of our furniture, 3 beds, one living room and the kitchen. After moving me multiple times during college and after, my Dad finally made me hire a moving company. I found them on the U-Haul site and they reached out to me a day later to set up the correct times and really worked to accommodate my schedule. I booked two movers for 2 hours for my one bedroom apartment. It ended up taking 2 and a half hours, which worked out fine because you just pay for the time you go over (the charge was pretty reasonable). Paul and Joseph were my movers and they brought multiple dollies and a roll of tape and plastic wrap. They put everything into the truck carefully, safely, and efficiently. They also used the furniture blankets that I rented from u-haul to make sure that nothing would break in transit. I recommend these movers and if I am ever back in the VA area, I would use them again. read more
