As a local hair salon owner, I hear a lot of talk about the best spots in town, and for years, Davios at Chestnut Hill has been the undisputed favorite among our clients and staff. It's been the backdrop for so many of our lives' milestones--we've swapped stories in the salon chairs about incredible birthdays, beautiful Bat Mitzvahs, and countless unforgettable events hosted there. We are absolutely sad to hear that they are closing their doors. The food, the incredible atmosphere, and the wonderful staff will be deeply missed by our entire salon community. Update: After posting on Yelp, Davio's reached out with an apology and has refunded our Thanksgiving meals. _____________ I wrote this to Davio's 4 days ago and never heard back so sharing on Yelp. I am writing to express my family's frustration with our experience on Thanksgiving afternoon at Davio's in Chestnut Hill. I write this with the most respect for servers and understand working on a holiday is not the best. With that said, Davio's has clearly gone downhill. We had a reservation for 10 people at 12:30. At that time, you have to expect more elderly people than not so the fact that you had music BLASTING in the dining area was uncalled for. We started off our meal with cold, hard popovers. Which is appalling since Davio's is known for this yummy treat. They were horrible! Next up was the drink order. One person got a flat, warm ginger ale served to her and asked for a new one with ice; the server never came back. Another person in our party ordered a Cosmo, light on the cranberry. It was too much cranberry. But she could not mention anything, because the server never came back. After an hour sitting there, my cousin had to go up to the hostess to ask for our lunch order to be taken. Our waiter didn't show up. Another waiter came by and it was only then that we were able to request a new ginger ale and a new Cosmo. Our original waiter finally came back and took our orders. (after over an hour sitting there) One person ordered steak medium rare and it arrived well done. While the rest of us were eating and finished our meal, it was only then that she finally got her medium rare lunch. The rest of us were asking to box up leftovers while she was only starting to eat. Unacceptable. Then it took forever for the server to ask for our dessert and coffee orders. Dessert took forever as well and came before the coffees. Usually, coffee is served quickly but not this time. Once we got our coffees and cappuccinos, they did no bring sugar and cream; we had to ASK for it. That should just be a given. We were actually charged for an extra cappuccino that should have just been a coffee on the bill, but that's the least of our problems from that day. Our reservation was at 12:30 and we were not able to leave until after 4pm! Nearly 4 hours for a Thanksgiving lunch? And to be automatically be charged a tip with that horrible dining experience is insane. Especially since the Thanksgiving meal was $85 and $15 additional for dessert! Needless to say, we will not be dining at Davio's for another holiday again which is your loss because we eat out for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. Restaurant comes across as fine dining and overall it was pretty good but just missed the mark in several ways. Atmosphere nice, service pleasant and attentive but missed when runner served everyone the wrong dish. Onion Rings were tasty but way over salted. Brussels Sprouts also were tasty but undercooked and hard. I ordered the Rack of Lamb special medium rare which came in three sections, one section was medium rare, one was medium well and one was rare which I found very odd if they were all cut from the same rack? I also ordered a cocktail, I think it was called "Ode to Summer" which seemed to be all fruit juice and little or no alcohol. For the high prices I don't think I would return. read more

A little disappointed in my experience here. First off we didn't have a reservation so we had to wait, which wasn't a problem. The problem I had was with the host who kept giving us false promises. Told us to check in half an hour, fine. Table wasn't ready. Had to wait 10 minutes more, wasn't ready. Finally he said okay I have something. Felt like he didn't want us to dine there. The food itself wasn't all that good either. We ordered the spaghetti which tasted like it had no spices whatsoever, very bland. The popovers which everyone seems to rave about didn't do it for me, they tasted very eggy and like a pancake, which isn't what I expect from a dinner roll. The best thing we ordered was the steak and cheese spring rolls. However they forgot to make them for us so our appetizer didn't come out until after the main course did. The waitress apologized but still it was quite frustrating. For being an expensive and fancy restaurant I expected more out of the food quality. read more

We went for a special family birthday a part of five. The ambiance was good although they sat us by the kitchen it was ok. The food was good the service was good in the beginning but got a little slow towards the end. All in all it was a good evening until the end. I asked our waiter to bring a slice of cake with a candle so we could sing happy birthday. without asking us if anyone wanted coffee or dessert he brought a plate with what seemed like a small chocolate muffin, I mean very small like a mini muffin with a very small mini scoop of ice cream. apparently he though we would all split that. he couldn't light the candle he tried with two lighters finally got it lit. Completely took away the surprise element. so we ended up sharing that small desert, didn't bother ordering anything after that. The fun aspect had been removed. then the check came, with the tip it was $535. when we looked at the bill item by item, we realized we were charged $17 for the mini muffin and they called it a chocolate cake. we did not expect to get it free, although most places offer that, the $17 dolor was outrageous and an insult. that's a shame. I've gone to various Davio's in the Boston area for years, even to the original one on Newburyport Stunod when I was in college. this experience was very upsetting and put a bad light on the evening. shameful. We arrived ... party of five, no problem introducing three new friends to this great culinary experience. Once seated at a round table ... service began with water served across our faces to our guests. Drinks followed served across our guest's faces. After having raved about the popovers ... we were served 3 for a table of 5. At their price ... enough was enough. Server was visibly disappointed that we were not purchasing alcohol. Took an additional 30 minutes for that entree. Food was less than mediocre. Server did not come back to check on us. We waited 40 minutes for our check. Then she tried to get us to buy dessert. What a waste of $800. Came here for a 3-course work meal, food was good for the MOST part. For appetizer I got the warm spinach, which was delicious & flavorful. For main course I got cod and risotto - not a huge risotto person but the cod was good, and I don't eat cod a lot. Dessert was called "tiramisu" but it was literally a chocolate dome with cream? Haha I still ate it though as a treat but it was certainly NOT "tiramisu" with coffee, cream. I also got a mocktail margarita which was good, and the decaf coffee they served after dinner was good too - came in a small little cup with cream + sugar on the side. Service was overall really good, our waiter was attentive- came with a party of around 16 people for work and he paid attention to all of our meals, really friendly and patient. Only thing again was the bathrooms weren't cleaned? I went into a few stalls and there was tissue in the toilet and also the toilet seats were wet with droplets of water on the side... again, this is what I saw last time at Davios which was slightly disappointing. Came here for a work-related dinner (meal served along with an educational talk) with a large group - so didn't really choose from any drinks or entrees but had a chance to try a salad and one of the pasta dishes (penne bolognese). Arugula salad with shaved parmesan cheese - was quite good - liked the flavor on this a lot. Went well with black pepper seasoning which one of the servers added to taste (I asked for a lot and my wish was granted). Penne Bolognese with veal, beef, pork. Got this loaded up with extra parmesan cheese as well because why not. Overall a nice pasta dish and the penne was cooked perfectly. Would have been nice to have a little more fillings/meat but overall the flavor was balanced and I was satisfied. read more

We've been frequent diners at this restaurant for years, but tonight will sadly be our last visit. During our meal, we saw a mouse running around the table next to us. I immediately informed the hostess, who responded nonchalantly with, "Ok, I'll let the manager know." To our surprise, the hostess returned shortly after with a party of four and seated them at the very table where the mouse was. I tried to get her attention to let her know that was the table, but instead of addressing the issue, she was incredibly rude to me. I was simply trying to help, as I wouldn't want to sit at a table where a mouse was running around. The manager eventually came over and he defended his hostess and lacked concern. Their reaction--or lack of concern--made us wonder if mice are frequent visitors here, as they neither seemed surprised nor apologetic. I then brought it up to our waitress, who was extremely apologetic and visibly upset, admitting she doesn't like mice either. She promptly moved us across the restaurant and tried her best to salvage the situation. Adding to the disappointment, the food was poorly prepared. My daughter ordered a plain cheeseburger, cooked medium, but it came well done with green sauce, bacon, lettuce, and tomato--nothing like what she asked for. My other daughter's medium steak arrived medium rare/rare. The only positive part of the evening was our waitress, who did her best in a difficult situation. However, the overall lack of care and hospitality from the management team means we'll be giving our business to neighboring restaurants that prioritize their guests' experience and safety. read more

Bartender came by at least 5 times in the first 10 minutes asking if I was ready to order, I said I wanted to sit with my drink for a bit. Never returned, another bartender came over and was just odd. Inappropriate comments at times, seemed to just want to talk about himself. 1. Popover tasty but lukewarm, butter didn't melt. 2. Steak was a tad under for me, I ordered medium-well and it was definitely medium-rare to medium. I would have asked for the temp to be brought up a bit, but no one ever came back to check on me. I ate around the edges, no comment about the raw-looking hunk of meat on my plate when cleared. 3. I ordered a cappuccino after the meal with a kahlua and bailey's on the rocks. The bartender could not comprehend that I didn't want the cordials IN my coffee but on ice on the side. The drink came in a collins glass, not a rocks glass. I didn't realize until I got home that I was charged 14.00 for one liqueur and 13.00 for the other, hence at 27.00 drink. We ate at Capital Grill Chestnut Hill 2 weeks before and had no issue ordering the cappuccino with the kahlua and bailey's on the rocks. There my drink was 17.00, much more reasonable. 4. As I was finishing and paying my bill, the bartender dropped one or more glasses in front of me. Fine, I get it. But he made NO effort to clean up the mess, then when trying to close the dishwasher door, all I heard was crunching. Instead of cleaning it out, he just moved it a few times until it finally closed. I hate to think how much broken glass and shards were all over the glassware in the dishwasher. All in all, it felt like very unprofessional staff who need a lot of training if they are going to work in a place that portrays itself as a high-end restaurant. Writing this review kind of late- came here for a birthday celebration lunch in February. Made reservations and got seated within 5 minutes. The food was just okay for a seemingly "top-notch" $$$ place. I ordered a steakhouse burger with a side of fries. The meat was under seasoned, but the toppings were decent. It is safe to say I honestly expected more for a $25 lunch burger. I did enjoy the complementary bread & oil at the start though! The main issue came in the service, however. You would expect that at a restaurant with white table cloth you'd get attentive and personable service. This was not the case. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I want to be besties with my server, but it would be nice to have some positive interaction! I've been to Davio seaport and Boston several times, this is the first time I visit Davio Chestnut Hill, and this is the WORST experien I ever had in a fine resturant. Me and my friend arrived there around 1pm on Sunday so it's not busy. But we were ignored by no reason. It took us more than 15 mins to get a drink, after another 20 mins' waiting, we get our dishes. What I ordered was a filet mignon of medium rare, but the center was all cooked without any pink! I told them it's over cooked and requested a replace. When they sent me the new one, the boss seriously told me they made it perfectly right, it's my fault that I should have ordered a rare, not medium rare. I have tasted hundreds of filet mignon of medium rare from different fine restaurant, I know exactly what it should look like, and no one ever told me I'm wrong. So I'm not sure if Davio Chestnut Hill has their own standard or they are doing racist to our Asian, neither of them is acceptable! read more

I'm not sure what's was going on at the bar last night but the employees were clearly miserable. There were only a few other customers at the bar yet the service was extremely slow. The shrimp cocktail was so tough I had to spit it out because I could barely chew it, and the bartender seemed annoyed when I told him. We were going to stay and eat dinner, but the service and food had already been so unpleasant that we decided to leave instead. They also overcharged for my drink and gave me attitude when I asked about it. We left and went to Legal and had a much much better experience. read more

Went to Davios for first time in chestnut hill. the atmosphere was very nice and they are quite attentive. As soon as we sat down, they were at our table asking about water or drinks could have used a min to settle in but all good. The waiter was great. For drinks my friend said i want something funky. the waiter and the rest us looked what? they had just added the drink to the menu and what waiter was not familiar. it was pretty funny. I got a mai tai and it was fantastic. we ended up ordering the seafood tower a salad oysters Rockefellers and a chopped tuna dish. the seafood was fresh and tasty the shrimp were great. it is a nice place comfortable not cheap with great service. read more

Luis the general manager was amazing and getting my whole family in for Mother's Day. Luis put us in a special room which was perfect for the occasion. Service was great for such a big group! First off, I wish I could have taken a better photo, but the lighting in the restaurant was set to romantic and the flash on my phone would have been inappropriate. What you're seeing is the most delicious and well cooked to medium filet mignon along with fresh asparagus on the side. I wish I had asked what kind of bread was served before the meal, because I would go just for that and a glass of wine. It was almost a pastry and I can't stop thinking about it. The staff at Davios is super nice, ambiance is upscale, yet comfortable and down to earth. I loved Davios before covid and as of today still a huge fan. Whoever was working the bar on March 10th 2024 during the brunch shift was an absolute kaleidoscope of misery. If you are unhappy with children at the bar please talk to your manager about the policy or let us know that you are going to be uninviting and rude during our experience in your restaurant so that we can leave and go somewhere else. We were told our well behaved children could sit at the bar and they were so happy about it. The only reason that I'm leaving a 2 star review is that I have met the owner of the restaurant a few times over our many years in the city and he is genuinely a great guy and the food was often great. If you are wondering, we still left a 20% tip in hopes that the misery our children created within the bartender didn't carry over to his next guest, which hopefully weren't the youth. We won't return. Be better; your restaurant for better or worse is attached to a movie theater and thus will bring children. Great spot for lunch, a drink a bite before the movies, or a large gathering. Atmosphere/ambience is more nuevo steakhouse feel. It's got a lot of dark wood and accent lighting at night. There's a really nice front room with big windows that can be rented out for special occasions and sits upwards of 20 plus folks with room for side tables of decorations/presents dropped off. Service is pretty good here. No complaints. Very nice at the bar. They usually run a tight ship though on busier times and when short-staffed you notice it. I enjoy sitting at the bar the most. The bartenders are all great, you can get an order in real quick, and appetizers come out fairly quick as do the popovers. Food here is solid. Everyone loves the warm popovers. The "egg rolls" sans egg are surprisingly tasty -- buffalo chicken to thai to cheesesteak and more. Really appreciate the fun theme desserts they'll have from time to time. Sometimes based on season or a big movie premiere. They have a good selection of steaks and grilled proteins though some higher quality offerings than others depending upon your wants. On occasion have had to send things back for being over or under done but not often. Calamari is always solid. Drinks have a very good showing of wines and decent selection of beers. Their specialty cocktails tend to be very boozy but often good. A few are a little too sweet for my tastes. Price is fair for the area. It's about the same price point as many of it's competitors around the area for both steakhouses and Italian. The best deal is lunch specials for sure. I'll keep coming back to the bar for a bite and a drink and for special occasions. When folks want to go for dinner, I'll join without major complaints. read more

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is I ordered a strip and was given a fillet. I must say the fillet was cooked perfectly and the steak was delicious. A great restaurant, I ordered the 6 oz filet mignon with some gluten free pasta which was all quite delicious. The ambiance was quiet and relaxing as I went in the middle of the day on a weekday. While both the quality of the food and the service were enjoyable, the restaurants location is what seals the deal. The service was outstanding, very friendly and extremely attentive. The room was nice, but had no charm or anything distinctive about it. Giant TVs in the bar area detract from the high-end feel this place is going for. The ceilings are very high which may have been why it seemed loud. Appetizers we had were excellent (calamari and crispy chicken livers). The steaks we had were good, and cooked as we asked for, but there was nothing especially remarkable about them that warranted the price. The a la carte sides were over-priced given the size of the serving. Wouldn't rush back, but wouldn't avoid it either (if I was invited by others). read more

I had a wonderful time at Davio's on saturday night. This was my second time coming here. The first time was about a year and a half ago when I was suffering from a health issue that greatly restricted the food I could eat. The staff was wonderful to me and made sure my food was served how I needed it to be. Luckily, the second time around, I was healthy and ready to indulge. First off, I absolutely love the ambiance of Davio's. Its like a more classy Cheesecake Factory. The service was also great from start to finish! The hosts who took our coats were sweet, and our waitress was an absolute doll. We started off with some wine and were served the famous popovers. Wow, those things are DANGEROUS and delicious. For apps we ordered the tuna tartare, and I reluctantly tried the fried chicken livers which ended up being fantastic. They tasted like General Tso's chicken! For my meal, I ordered the Baked Atlantic cod with potatoes in a leek-fennel broth. It was excellent. The fish was soft and flaky and the broth was flavorful. The short ribs and truffle mac and cheese were also spectacular. The dessert spread at Davio's is impressive! We tried the molten chocolate cake and it did not disappoint. So, my wife likes this place and it's ok but way more pricey than it should be. Chestnut Hill is an expensive neighborhood with few eating options so locals with unadventurous taste buds flock to this place. It's always full. If you enjoy people watching, this place is a winner, especially if you like watching rich old white people. There's a small but significant chance you may witness a death. First of all, the only reason I am not giving this a zero star review is because the food was superb. Starting with the good; we ordered two appetizers, both of which were lovely (highly recommend the Philly Cheesesteak Roll and Calamari). Moving onto entres all of them were served hot and prepared correctly in accordance to our order, which unfortunately is a rarity these days. For desert we ordered the Strawberry Shortcake and Creme Brûlée Cheesecake which tastes as good as it sounds. After we finished desert is when things went south. Earlier in the meal I had thought I saw something run across the floor under our table and I was told it is nothing to worry about. Lo and behold the table next to us stood up and pointed saying there was a mouse. Sure enough, it was scurrying around the dining room floor. This is absolutely revolting. We told staff about it who did nothing at all. Our waiter sent over the manager to speak with us about it and made things worse. He voluntarily disclosed that "we have pest control here every day" something that is unacceptable especially as he said this has happened for the PAST 10 YEARS. Don't worry though if everyday is not enough for the pest control to be there "every month they come and drill the walls because the mice burrow into them" EVERY MONTH! SERIOUSLY! How can a "fine dining" restaurant have a mice infestation for the past 10 years? Their answer is "the movie theatre next door attracts mice". How is this not a health code violation? Why do you continue to operate a restaurant at this location? If I am paying upwards of $100 per person I expect better. Saving the best part for last when the manager came over we expected him to comp our deserts or at least something basic to make us feel validated and that he cared, but he offered that if we wanted to order another desert it would be on the house. Asking for the bill, I expected at least one item would be taken off. To my surprise NOTHING WAS! Never come to this restaurant unless you want a $500 bill with a side of mice droppings.
