Everything went well. Huge bread basket to start with a cold square of butter. Attentive service. Strong drinks. My mojito wasn't muddled but it was a pleasant passion fruit spritzer experience, with a mint leaf garnish. Wedge salad was really good- they'll split it for you. The bacon is more like a lardon, and the blue cheese is very mild. Loved the cherry and heirloom tomatoes. I should have known not to order well done at a steak house, and that was the only let down. My meat was overly charred, but my partner insists it was my fault because I didn't agree to it being butterflied as the waiter suggested. My family came for my dad's birthday. Overall the food was a bit salty. Portions were hefty. Service was good. We got shrimp cocktail and crab lumps for the appetizers, which were good and came with delicious sauces. We got steaks, au gratin, and asparagus. They explain how they cook their medium, medium well, etc. For dessert we got cappuccinos which came with rock sugar candy on a stick. For my dad's birthday, they left a birthday card, small decorations, and gave him a tray of dessert. It had the chocolate flourless cake, cream, cheesecake, berries, and cocoa powder. read more

We had salads with the most delicious grilled, sliced tenderloins. We could have had it with chicken (grilled or blackened, but "hey", we're in a steak restaurant). I'm still savoring the "char" a day later. Our waitress was terrific, bringing us tastes of our tentative wine choices, helping us with making swaps in the menu which ended up with each of us getting exactly what we wanted. We had a lovely meal. Of course, the ambiance of dark woods, deep seats , quiet booths added so much to our experience, we shared a 3rd glass of the exceptional "cab" before settling a reasonable bill of about $50 per person. Love this place!!! Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Capital Grille is one of my go to steakhouses in the Boston area. I was dining alone this night and took a empty seat at the bar. Ordered a nice glass of red wine, half a dozen oysters and, you guessed it, a steak. A bone in ribeye, medium, rare with a side of sautéed mushrooms. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the mushrooms were delicious. But I knew that would be the case, not the first time I've dined here. Interestingly, Dave Andelman of Phantom Gourmet fame, came in and grabbed the empty seat next to me. I was a little surprised when he ordered the lamb chops. " Night Cap" We live close enough to walk to this restaurant. We have been coming here for years for " night caps , appetizers and food in general ". Bartender is friendly and generous with the pouring of alcoholic beverages, and can boldly make anything happen drink wise The vibe is warm and welcoming always . We truly feel welcomed here . Didn't get a chance to eat in person, but we got take out using a 15 year old gift card my father had. I had the Seared Sea Scallops with Maine Lobster and Asparagus Risotto and bread starter. After having just dealt with a bout with a cold, this meal brought me back to life. Very good portion, the bread starter was fantastic also. Fish was fresh and risotto and all were perfect. Went to CG in Chestnut Hill, MA with a friend for happy hour last Thursday, we ordered several drinks and appetizers. Bar was empty when we arrived but we were rudely asked to move to accommodate customers who weren't even there yet, we were surprised by that request. Other patrons (men) were sitting there as well and not asked to move. When the bar got more crowded, the barkeep just picked up our glasses and plates and moved them making way for a woman who was waiting for a friend. Her friend showed up 1/2 hour later. I cannot say enough about how pleasant it was to just be treated like old friends. The staff at the Chestnut Hill location was fantastic and consistently made sure we were enjoying our visit. From recommending choices to being attentive. A special mention of our server Amy who was fantastic the whole night and the manager Kelly who stopped by a few times to check in. One of the best meals I have had in a very long time. This is a beautiful upscale restaurant with a dark wood atmosphere. An incredible relaxed dining experience. Our server Sebastian, was great! Helpful, friendly, a great conversationalist and allowed us to dine at our leisure while taking care of all of our needs. We met at couple friends here for dinner. None of us had eaten at a Capital Grille before and everyone was impressed. We started with speciality drinks. They were delicious and strong. Those were followed by some appetizers. First, we were brought a complimentary Arancini they were crispy with a great flavor and a nice red sauce. A beautiful basket of bread was provided with a large variety of breads. All were amazing. Then we ordered a couple other appetizers including shrimp cocktail and Prosciutto-Wrapped Mozzarella with Vine Ripe Tomatoes. The shrimp was big and fresh and the mozzarella was crispy on the outside and came with crostini. Wonderful. Then, for dinner we ordered a bottle of wine. Sebastian took all of our needs and came back with the perfect bottle of wine! For dinner we had Sliced Filet Mignon with Cipollini Onions, Wild Mushrooms and Fig Essence, Sushi-Grade Sesame Seared Tuna served with ginger rice, Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails, and Kona-Crusted Dry Aged Bone-In NY Strip. All were amazing and the New York Strip was the best I've ever had. Along with these, we shared sides of Au Gratin Potatoes and Soy-Glazed Brussels Sprouts with Bacon. One of the party was vegan and he suggested a pasta with different types of veggies was very good ! The ladies had salmon and bass which was perfectly cooked to their desire! Shaun (sp?) was our waiter, and was one of the best I've had in many years. I told Shaun that I wanted a juicy steak with plenty of flavor. I wanted it cooked so that the middle third was red and the outer two thirds were pink. Shaun ordered me a Bone-In Ribeye. It was cooked to perfection and was one of the tenderest steaks I have ever had. However, it was not very flavorful. Maybe it just needed more seasoning. The Lump Crab Cocktail was a dissapointment. The portion was large, but the crab had little taste and the mustard sauce just didn't have any zing to it. Overall, it just didn't come close to the crab I get in Southern Florida. I took a bite of my wife's Veal Chop. The sauce was wonderful, but the meat itself was not impressive. We ordered an order of Roasted Wild Mushrooms, which I found to have very little taste, and my wife thought were gritty. I enjoyed the Cheese Cake dessert quite a bit. Good proportions of cheese, cake, whipped cream, and strawberries. We were not impressed with the Chocolate Cake. The room was quiet enough to carry on a conversation without shouting. read more

We have come here so many times over the years! They even took photos for us and printed it right there several years ago before the pandemic. This location is particularly special since my SO and I celebrated many anniversaries as well as his birthday together. We took advantage of the Dine Out Boston deals but of course it's so tasty that we also have dined here to celebrate at the regular priced menu many times. Sadly they no longer offer the small extras or attention to detail that we had received in the past. Plus when we recently dined here I noticed that the steak wasn't as juicy or tasty plus the lobster tails looked so shriveled up and small compared to what I remembered in the past. The cocktails are still spot on. The location is super convenient with their own parking lot just a stone's throw from the city without being downtown. This place will always have a soft spot in my memories but I might actually be favoring Ruth Chris' steak taste overall these days. read more

I had a great experience at the Capital Grille. I came here on a Monday afternoon as a party of 3 and was seated right away. I ordered the filet minion entree and had mashed potatoes for my side. I got the steak cooked well done, and while it was a bit dry, it still had a great flavor and the top was seared/seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were amazing! My buddy got the sliders, which looked incredible with a side of truffle fries. I desperately want to know who supplies Capital's potatoes and/or who is behind the counter, because those were the best fries I've ever had in my entire life. I'm still thinking about them. We sat at the bar this time and I was a much better experience than sitting at a table at this Chestnut Hill location. We love the one in the city- no matter where we sit. The bar was quite busy this day. It was right before Christmas and place felt festive. Th bartender was very busy but was able to manage all the guests well. Usually on the dinner menu, we were able to order the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, for lunch appetizer. It was well prepared and quite tasty with the mozzarella still firm but melty. We always live the bread basket - I enjoy the lavash while my husband enjoys the rolls. I had a Kir royale to drink. Husband's New York strip was really well prepared and he enjoyed it. My sesame crusted tuna with gingered rice was very tasty. I've gotten it at the Boston location and it is great at both locations. We mentioned that it was our first Christmas as a newly married couple and it would have been nice if they offered us something. I know this would be above and beyond, and I normally wouldn't just "expect " it, but I have been to so many Capital Grill's around the nation, and I feel it just would have happened because Capital Grille seemed to focus on service and a higher level of attention to detail without being stuffy. But overall this location hasn't had that feel I have experienced with the many other Capital Grille's I've been to many times over many years. Bartender was working hard and managing a full bar and did great! And provided very good service. When we have been seated at a table here we did not enjoy our experience. The server seemed like she didn't want to be there and gave us the bare minimum of service one would get at a much lesser establishment. For us, the bar is the only place to sit at this location for great service and a welcoming experience. I am combing two visits in this review. 2.5 stars for our earlier visit in the summer and 4.5 stars for this most recent visit. read more

The food was good, and the ambiance was also nice as well. We got a private room, which made it easy to have conversations. However, there were a lot of moments I expected better service. Before the entrées came out, the waiter/host was passing out steak knives. I didn't realize that the waiter/host was passing the knife right by my face until my other party sitting in front of me told me to be careful. When dealing with the entré, they mixed up the temperatures of the filet mignon that several members of our party got. Plus, you are supposed to put a card when making a reservation, and you have the option of paying with the card on file or paying at site. Although I chose to pay at site, they already charged with the card on file without double checking. It was fine as I decided to pay with that card, but the staff definitely needs to work on customer service and coordination. read more

Came here last week for lunch & Ms Denise was our server & she was amazing. She was very attentive and genuinely wanted to ensure we enjoyed everything about our experience here. She even served us our appetizers on sharing plates. We ordered boneless ribeye and a bone in New York strip both were cooked almost to perfection. The lobster Mac was very dry & had two pieces of lobster thrown on top, ms Denise did make sure they made it over for us. The calamari was good and fresh The mashed potatoes are always very good I swear by the lobster and crab cakes as you can tell The plate with the butter has dirty when it was served to me so I did remove a star for that because they should know better before serving it. I come to this location fairly often and never had service like this. Actually I've had some quite terrible experiences. Including a server adding a $260 tip on my receipt after I had given him $260 in cash and management never even followed up with n regarding it. I made late night reservations. The host asked me when I was making the reservation if there was any special occasion. So I told her it was my birthday. The day of they had small amount of birthday confetti on the table. Just enough for me to notice and appreciate. They also gave me a card. It was nice to see a restaurant take the little extra steps. The service was incredible. He was attentive and provided honest feedback when asking questions about the menu. He guided the experience without us feeling steered in a direction. Phoung was his name, great job! The steaks were fantastic and cooked to perfection. I had the dry aged NY strip and added a lobster to it. They gave me a birthday dessert. The wine was fantastic. I had a French wine, sadly can't remember which one. The cocktails were also very good. We finished the night with some Fernet and Port. After everything was over the bill came. This is approximately my 10th time going to this restaurant. Each time there has been several things wrong: food, and service. The service has always been terrible. I go solo after a doctor appointment as a treat but no more. This time, a new manager named Aaron asked to pick up my check as I was chewing. There should be a law against doing so and swallowing that last potentially delicious morsel quickly to answer the dingbat's question. The waitress could not understand that when I said no ice, I meant no ice in water. She did not ask me about anchovies on my Caesar salad. What is a Caesar salad without anchovies? The salad itself did not have the wonderful croutons of prior salads. The 8 oz fillet mignon was over seasoned and I was barely able to get down the bites. The manager said "next time tell the waitress not to over season." There won't be a next time. Believe me. For a $60 solo lunch I can do better.
