Being new to the Temecula area after several decades in Chicago, I was in need of a new Dr to oversee my regular health and physical wellbeing. Was referred to Dr Hizon, and with his background in sports medicine, I felt it would be a good fit. I had been experiencing sever back and leg pain for several months making walking and exercising very difficult and painful. I have had several spinal surgeries, resulting in spinal fusion from L1-S1, but had been generally well for over 10 years, no major health issues, and other than the back and occasional knee pain (63 yo with back and arthritis issues, but still very active and mobile, until recently), was in decent shape, according to my Dr in Chicago. At my appointment with Dr Hizon, cannot call it a evaluation or consultation, as he did neither, I was told in general terms that I was going to die if I did not take care of myself, and "would be bad for his reviews". Was told that I was running out of body parts, and needed to change my lifestyle and begin a severe keto diet, with absolutely no carbs, needed to walk at least 10k steps/day (which I was doing until the recent back and leg pain and the reason for needing to see Dr Hizon) and start Pilates, and follow his videos and diet plans and apps. Was ordered extensive blood work and lab test to give him a baseline of my health. Never examined me, never asked me questions, just saw a 63 year old man in pain and decided I was in declining health. Scheduled a video call for a follow up a few weeks out, and I had to travel for a friend's medical emergency, and was the day of my friends procedure, so I had limited time before heading to the hospital. I logged on at 9:45am for a 10am call, at 10:15 I called and explained that I had to leave with my friend for the hospital at 11:00. They explained that once Dr Hizon arrived, he would call me back, no more than 10 minutes. About 30 minutes later, in the hospital and unable to use my cell, I was told that I was reschedule with his nurse practitioner at 1, even though I specifically told them I would not be available the rest of the day. At 1:15 I again received a message and was told I was rescheduled for 4:20. It has been 2 weeks since this all happened and I have yet to hear back from Dr Hizon or his office, neither through the patient portal or a call or an email, nothing. Turns out my results were all good, even better than last year. Have since sent my doctor the results and had a video call with him to discuss the results. I cannot recommend a Dr that asks not a single question of his patients and evaluates you without any examinations. A doctor that uses fear to intimidate and scare his patients into doing as he wants. I saw another Dr in Temecula with my in-laws, prior to my initial "meeting" with Dr Hizon, her first words were " he hasn't retired yet?", that should have been a warning to do my proper due diligence on him, as we all should.

This was my 1st visit with her and she took the time to read through my chart and was able to start our visit with a thorough knowledge of who I was and what my medical history was. She listened to me, took care of all paperwork and already had all bloodwork ordered in the time it took me to walk downstairs to the lab. Her kind and gentle nature definitely shone through. But what I loved the most was that as we discussed different ideas she always resorted back to saying "I am an EVIDENCE-based doctor and make my decisions that way. I absolutely love that in this day and age of opinions masking as fact, she indeed addressed the facts and evidence of each scenario. I have decided to switch my doctor to Dr Tillson. Finally got it through the scheduling person that we didn't want to make two drives so she made us a double appointment for two months out an hour apart? As for doctors they come in rush through your questions and concerns and are up and out in under 10 minutes. The care quality just isn't there anymore. You send questions in on your portal and lucky if you get a reply and if there is one it a week or more later. Feels more like you're nothing more than an inconvenience to their day. Then today I go on my United healthcare app and there's a message that I need to pick a new patient primary care doctor because he's no longer accepting my insurance. I haven't seen Dr. Madrid for years. Been shuffled off to others doctors. I'm looking for a new practice!

At my first visit with Dr. Gomer, he reviewed with me my health issues and meds, and instantly made some changes to my meds without explanation until I asked for the reasons. My next visit was a big disappointment. I signed up for his weight loss program. I was to meet with Dr. Gomer and his weight loss person. She spent all the time speaking about herself and her achievements, but barely scratched the surface in describing the program or asking me what I hoped to achieve. She also informed me that Dr. Gomer had to leave for a meeting and that I would be seeing another doctor. After waiting in the room for about 10 minutes, Dr. Gomer popped in to inform me had was short on time and I needed to reschedule this appointment. I almost did not return, except my wife had also moved over from our shared prior primary and had only a very positive experience. I report all this because I am so glad I gave Dr. Gomer a second chance. Since that not-so-good visit, I have had only positive experiences. He has always been on time (an amazing feat for a doc), spent whatever time was needed with me, answered all my questions, and we developed a plan for weight loss, eliminating (not just treating symptoms, but the root cause) of my health issues, and meds. Since putting the plan in place and with monthly follow-ups, I have eliminated two meds and am close to eliminating one more, leaving only three left. I have also lost 30 pounds in the process. What I have found with Dr. Gomer is that if you want very targeted treatment to achieve your weight, health, and medication goals, you must be proactive and take responsibility for communicating what you wish to achieve and follow the treatment plan as outlined. I highly recommend Dr. Gomer. Remember, sometimes a first or early impression may be inaccurate. I suggest you take at least 3 months to decide whether Dr. Gomer is a good fit for you, and early on, clearly communicate your longer-term goals. PS: Robert is great. His bedside manner and follow-through are fantastic.
