Please look at the wonderful job Das did on my window seat cushion. Notice how the medallions match up from the top to the front side of the cushion keeping the pattern uniform. This is expert work. Six years ago, this business reupholstered a leather Hancock & Moore curved sofa for me, switching it over to fabric. It was a horrible disaster. The seams weren't straight, the pillows were pinched, and the whole thing looked dilapidated and old, when it had left my apartment in excellent shape. Worst of all, I think they might have changed the cushion inserts without my permission. The inserts started out perfectly sized--the sofa was less than a year old (I hated the leather color once I saw it in my home) and in perfect condition. Hancock and Moore is one of the best furniture companies in the US. When the sofa left my home, the pillow inserts fit PERFECTLY--and when it came back, they hung over the edges by almost two inches. Those were the best inserts Money could buy. I can't see how they could have GROWN. They must have been replaced with inferior and ill fitting inserts Second-to-worst: I had this sofa custom modified so the legs came off and it for through my door. When they delivered the sofa, they didn't screw them in as they were carefully designed to be done, so it could be done over and over with ease; they haphazardly just whacked the legs on off-center with thin, short screws and ruined the custom design. This meant that this morning, when my new upholsterer came to pick up my sofa and finally take it in to fix it--he literally had to use a crow bar to remove the feet. It should have been easy peasy--I'll reiterate that this is a Hancock and Moore--irreproachable in their craftsmanship--the custom design was ruined. read more

I brought an old..okay, very old, goat skin ottoman with separated stitching to Das Upholstery after another shop told me that the material was too old to sew back together. Das looked at it and agreed that it was too old to be stitched but if I wanted, he could put fabric behind the material and glue it back together. He said it would not look like new but it should work. When I picked up the ottoman today there were areas still separated and when I got home I discovered that one area that was separated had not been touched. I called the shop, Das apologized and told me to bring the ottoman back in. When I brought it back, he said he would also try again to seal the areas he had attempted to fix and had separated. He re-glued the separated areas and found some small separations that I had not found. While I wish I did not have to have made the extra trip to the store, it gave me the opportunity to see that Das stands behind his work, is willing to admit and fix his mistakes and that is a place I want to take my business! read more

This was my first time having anything reupholstered. I picked up a chair left out in the garbage and was repulsed by the old seat that was on it. I brought it to Das, he created an entire new seat, charged me less than anywhere else I contacted, did a beautiful job, and it was ready the next day. I don't know how I could justify trying to use a glue gun to reupholster any future seats after seeing his work. I would definitely go back. read more

We have two enormous L-shaped sectional sofas which Das completely rebuilt and reupholstered using fabric purchased at ABC. He provides multiple choices of filling for sofa backs and pillows both natural and man-made so you can choose by feel and price. Work is done when promised. Our sofas have remained perfect for 15 years. We will now have him return to work on the frames since child-guests have done lots of jumping on them over the years but the upholstery is still perfect! I can't imagine you could find a better craftsman. read more

I don't think there are very many upholsterers left like Das. He is a true craftsman. We had tears in the cushions of our beloved leather couch. He remade the cushions to match exactly and he turned the job around in 4 days for a fair price. He is a gem and I would give more stars if I could. Highest recommendation. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! I brought two antique chairs here that were really in need of some TLC. They are family heirlooms so I did a lot of research before choosing DAS since they are very dear to me. Their craftsmanship is absolutely 10/10, as is their customer service. Tremendous talent! Very high quality work. I was recommended to Das by my upholstery cleaner, J.L. Carpet & Upholstery. ("The best guy I know is Das Upholstery...") I had my Roche Bobois sofa seat cushion reupholstered by Das. The entire transaction was easily handled by email and phone. He picked up and delivered from/to Manhattan. The work was done on time and the finished piece looks fantastic. I admittedly did not price shop so don't know how his prices compare but am pleased with the service and my new seat cushion which is the basis for my rating. read more
