We were visiting my wife's cousins in Spokane, and had a craving for German food. This fit the bill perfectly. Had the schnitzel and spaetzle and they were delicious. My wife, who in her youth worked in a German restaurant during the Worlds Fair in Spokane (yea, that dates me) was also quite happy. Not a fancy place, and the music from the karaoke next door was pretty loud as we were dining late, but the food and beer were excellent, the service friendly, and we all enjoyed ourselves. Daughter had the sauerbraten and it was very good as well. Our waitress was a sweet lady with a mild accent and her recommendations were spot on. read more

We've passed Das Stein Haus many times and have been meaning to stop in, so last night before the Chief's game we finally did. We were impressed with the beer selection - very good German beer! A lot of beers brewed by Bayern (Missoula, MT) as the brewmaster is from Germany. My personal favorite was the Dragon's Breath. We got the German Platter and it was very good! We will for sure be coming back for brats and beer! And hopefully they add a pretzel to the menu as well! :) Also, very good customer service. We have been in Spokane now for almost 20-years and had never visited or knew it existed. We went for Dinner Friday night and returned again on Sunday for Breakfast! Both times the food was FABULOUS! I have not seen eggs cooked so perfectly in a restaurant in a long time. These were PICTURE PERFECT!! The Schnitzel and spatz were excellent. Not quite the same as some spots in Leavenworth with their atmosphere and music, but heck, a LOT closer to home. If we need a 'Schnitzel' fix and not ready for a long trip, were coming here!!! read more

Came here on a whim since I was new to this area of town and craving something new that I've never had before. I've seen lines form waiting for a seat inside. We have never had to wait long though. I always stick with the Jager schnitzel served with a side of spaetzel (spaetzel is equivalent to pasta). The portions here are very generous, so I always have a to go container in my hand as I walk out the door. I have been here around 6 times and only twice have I been offered soup instead of a salad. The first time I got soup, it was potato soup and so good. The potato soup, according to the waitress, is their biggest seller when it comes to soup. The second soup I had was some sort of spicy soup which I did not care for. I think if you want soup with your dinner meal, it is best to get here early before the place fills up. I have ordered another menu item, can't remember what item that was, but it was very dry and not enjoyable, so I stick with the Jager schnitzel, cause it is not dry at all. The Jager is served with brown mushroom gravy with some onions. The gravy is slightly sweet and salty. You are served free sourdough bread with butter when you are seated. They have a beer (bier in German) sampler of about 4-5 beers in small glasses. I have not tried the sampler, but the table next to us said it was great and ordered another round of sampler biers. The biers range from dark to light to medium, so you get a little bit of everything with the sampler. read more

So many different options and everything we have tried was delicious. The sauce for the beef stroganoff is fantastic and the handmade noodles go perfectly together. The cheese sauce for the warm pretzels is amazing too. Terrible customer service. Drinks took forever and waitress hardly stopped by at all. After 3 drinks we were brought waters, a check, and asked to leave. We weren't being drunk or unruly in anyway, simply sitting and talking. Apparently for a place that prides itself on beer they have a real problem if you drink it. Great place to have a bite to eat with a drink or two. Good deals on food, and a good variety. It's very come as you are, and that's why I like it. I find the restaurant side to be a little bland or boring as far as atmosphere is concerned, otherwise I would give it five stars. read more

Stopped in for a meal but ended up staying for the quiz nite. The food was good but the service was lacking. Our server was trying to cover the entire - crowded - bar by herself. She was working very hard but there's no way she could cover it all. Had we been on a schedule, we would have left after the first drink. Will go back but I sure hope they figure out how to staff the place properly. It definitely DOES make a difference in the overall enjoyment. Good food doesn't make up for bad service. If we go again and have the same experience, I doubt we'd go back a third time, and that's a shame, because I think I'd like to make this place a regular stop. read more

The server here was extremely attentive. She even playfully encouraged my 2 year old daughter to finish her dinner before she brought the dessert! I have been trying to get my wife to go here for the last 5 years. Finally she relented on our anniversary. Great little dining room with great german decorations. Love the way it looks. Server was friendly, but very slow. There were many tables around us that came after us and were served food and left before us. We didn't order anything super complicated and it was just the 2 of us. That night we were fine with the length of time it took. Ordered an appetizer (Frikadellen Sliders) and they were super yummy. Full of flavor and just delicious. German beers were very good as well. Wife ordered Beef Stroganoff. She said it was the best she has ever had. She totally loved it. I ordered the German Combo Platter and it all was great. The Schnitzel was top shelf. We ended with the Apple Strudel. My wife said she now wants to make this a monthly date spot. I can't wait to head back and find more great food! Hopefully a little faster service. It took almost 2 hours before we were able to pay and leave, but the food was worth it. read more

I love this place. I've eaten here many times and never been disappointed. It always makes me laugh when people say, "I know good Chinese food because I live in San Francisco." My experience with Germany food comes from eating in German restaurants and households in GERMANY. I lived there for a few years as a child and have wanted to, again, experience the taste memories I had from that time. Das Stein Haus (Chic-A-Ria when I fist ate there) was where I found it. This place came recommended by a german friend, which in and of itself should say something for it. It has a very cozy atmosphere and the service was very good. I ordered the saurbraten and the person I went with ordered the pork medalions in apple brandy sauce. It was a little more expensive than I was expecting before going in but the food was well worth it. Both the dishes were amazing and I can't wait to go back to try something new. read more

Every time I come to this place I am met by the by a waitstaff that appears to be unsure what to do with customers. Do you want to sit? do you want a menu? Do you want over priced pretty good German food? YES I DO! I wont be coming back the service is so incompetent every time I go here it reduces the enjoyment of my food. This was my first time at Das Stein Haus and the food was alright. I had the Chicken Marsala but I probably wouldn't order that again. It is a German place, after all! The most disappointing part was the annoyance of the waitress at having a party of twelve to serve. At the end of the meal we were told that we needed to make a reservation two weeks ahead so they could have enough staff. She conceded that the restaurant wasn't that busy. Chiding yor customers after dining in your restaurant is no way to encourage them to return. read more

Celebrated a birthday party with over 30 guests. SUPER experience. Buffet was excellent, fresh, hot and delicious. The two servers assigned to the party were gracious and prompt and nobody had a glass empty unless they were done! Spaetzle, brats, schnitzel and cabbages/kraut are legit and very, very well prepared. Friendly set up, helpful planner, and everybody was as good as could be.
