I have to retract my entire previous review. This time was HORRIBLE! The kasespaetzle was gummy and topped with what looked to be Kraft Swiss Singles, which was bad enough. Then our appetizer of sauteed mushrooms had an awful burnt taste. Completely inedible. My companion's jager schnitzle was way overcooked and tough and the sauce had that same strange burnt taste. We didn't even bother with to-go boxes. No one asked how everything was even though we barely touched the food. They've fallen from grace too far for me to ever bother going back. It was a total waste of time, money, and was in general a truly miserable experience. My grandmother would be ashamed of them, and it definitely did not evoke happy memories of her Sunday dinners. Quite the opposite. NEVER going back there again. read more

This place deserves all five stars. The food is not fancy it is just gooooood. The atmosphere is not that great for a date but the wife loves it. read more

Been multiple times and if you like authentic German cuisine then they will be happy. Schnitzel, spatzle, bratwurst or many other dishes I have tried have been spot on read more

This place is delicious and seriously underrated. We had the jager schnitzel, spaetzle and brats. The portions were legit! The beer was good! read more

Visiting Spokane from out of town and wanted to try something different. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel with spaetzle. Portions are large! Although I ordered the petite, the schnitzel covered half of a regular dinner plate while the spaetzle covered the other half. The gravy was perfect. Not too salty. Not bland. Red cabbage was perfectly spiced. Many folks on here complained that the crowd were 50+. I suppose this could be a negative if your looking for a loud bar scene. This is a family restaurant and during my dinner there were large groups of "regulars" with reserved tables of varying ages. There is an attached lounge which I did not venture into. The food was authentic. Large portions. Wait staff was exceptionally polite and accommodating. read more

We absolutely love this place. It's atmosphere is dated. But the owners have an obvious passion for serving authentic, home style German food. The portions are huge. And then the jaeger schnitzel is just perfection and the kaese spaetzle is comfort food at its best. read more

We love this little local restaurant! On many occasions we've taken our extended family there and they've all loved it. The menu can be intimidating if you're not familiar with German food but whatever you decide on you'll love. The portions are great (we always have takeaways) and delish. I love that they recognize us when we go in, even if its been awhile! read more

How do you say "microwave" in German? Very disappointed, had the Sauerbraten with red cabbage and spaetzel...lumpy, loaded with corn starch...too much salt. ..yuck! read more

You know, after much consideration, I just can't get into this place. The first thing you'll notice about this place is that if you're under the age of 50, you're the youngest person in there. Both the bar and the restaurant seem to be filled with older folks. Which is fine, but usually isn't the sort of vibe I'm looking for. One nice thing is that they have 10 different German-style beers on tap. They're not all from Germany, but they do fall, broadly, under one of the German styles. I'm not a huge fan of those styles of beer, so it's not really my bag. Similar to the beer, I'm not really a fan of a lot of German food. When last I ate there, I ordered the bratwurst sampler. The brats were really interesting - I really liked two of the three styles, and even the third was pretty decent. The spaetzle was largely poorly flavored pasta, but improved when cold (I ate the rest of it as cold leftovers that night). Service can get awfully slow. Wife and I sat in the bar for lunch the other day, and the waitress was painfully slow. I kept having to go up to the bar to get water refills. Not great. Also hit the place for karaoke on a Friday night - and it was terrifying. I was with a few friends, and we were the youngest people in there by 20 years. And the whole vibe was just sad and depressing. Oy. read more

I felt I needed to put my two cents into this wonderfull German Restaurant after enjoying several visits here. Love the dedicated waitresses who have been their for several years...Girl buddy and I spent quite a while sampling their awesome beer selection...and, of course our meals were top notch!.......... read more

My husband had wanted to go eat here for a long time so one night we finally decided to go. I made a reservation but the place was quite dead and it wasn't really necessary. The staff was very friendly.Unfortunately, good service does not quite override how bad our food was. The food was quite tasteless and overpriced. I ate a pasta dish that was so bad I ate maybe a quarter of it. It was like eating plain, boiled pasta. No flavor at all. My husband had the schnitzel and said it was mediocre. We also had an appetizer and dessert. Also very bland. When our check came we just laughed. How did we pay so much for such a blah meal? I accidentally left my leftovers sitting on the table. When we walked out I realized this but it wasn't even worth walking back in to get them. It is a joke now between my husband and I. "Do you want to go to Das Stein Haus?" we will tease when we drive by. Most comically bad food we have eaten in town. Maybe it was just the fact that we were the only people in the under 60 and still retained some taste buds. read more

Visiting from Honolulu on business. Wanted to get some German food since we don't have any German resteraunts on Oahu (unreal). Was not disappointed... got the combo place with schnitzel and sausage and sauerkraut. Washed it down with a cold beer. Left happy and full. Lots of regulars flowed in and out... everyone knew the staff by name and vice versa... always a sign that the food is good if the locals keep coming back. I'd be a regular if I lived here! read more

Was recently back. We do like this place a lot, having been here for the World Series, and random drinking nights. :) Great beers on tap, although our server wasn't up on what the different types of beers are, happily though you can sample before you buy, and that's a great touch. Had the schnitzel and spaetzle again, the schnitzel was great, not oily, clean, well done. Had it with an egg on top and the taste is top notch. The spaetzle this time was a bit gummy, but supremely better than what Masselow's has on offer right now. It's a fun place to be, and some of the "locals" are quite colorful. It's nice to see a very proud Giants fan too. :) read more

Delicious! Staff was gracious and friendly. I had the brat combo and two beers. The Weihenstephan was so good and the Zwickel wasn't bad neither. Definitely recommend to anyone interested in reasonably priced German cuisine. read more

Great authentic food. my fiance loves this place because it reminds him of his time in Germany. Great schnitzle, good beer selction. This place is fantastic! Definitely worth a visit. Family friendly, Good service and reasonable prices. I'm new to German food and love coming to this place! read more

Asked for a beverage menu then waited 15 minutes for drinks, had to ask for water after that. My appetizer was the $11.00 shrimp cocktail waited 30 minutes for it to arrive the six little shrimp cooked to a rubber consistency on a plate with celery, lemon and cocktail sauce. Finally an hour into our ordeal we were told our food should arrive any minute. My wife had the pffefer steak and it was excellent, a little sweet on the green peppercorn sauce. I had the jager schnitzel and it was amazing! Really good red cabbage too! What threw us was the odd spaetzle. The did pan fry as we requested but is was super eggy like a eggnoodle meets egg foo yung. No nutmeg or butter in them either? So a decent steak and an excellent pork cutlet but it will be a long time before we hit this place again. read more

Came here for Thanksgiving. The food was amazing!!! The beer was refreshing!!! My family have been doing German restaurants for Thanksgiving for a couple years now and this place was a wonderful experience. We are German and cook our own German cuisine at home. We are very familiar with the tastes of our origin. We were pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the veggies and the perfectly cooked meat and potatoes. We were visiting from out of town and will surely be back!!! read more

I was disappointed in the schnitzel -- rather than using pork tenderloin, they used what looked like a thinly sliced boneless pork chop. The meat was dry and tough. The hunter sauce was very tasty, however, as was the house-made spaetzle. My DH had the wurst platter and was very pleased. All three wursts were very good and the house-made saurkraut was wonderful. Staff was attentive and worked well together as a team to provide excellent service. We'll be back -- I'll just stay away from the schnitzel! read more

This was a pretty exciting place to go eat at. I had a great experience and my schnitzel was awesome. I wasn't a big fan of the red cabbage, but that's okay because everyone's tastes are different. I wouldn't mind going back to try more new things! read more

I took my wife and daughter for easter brunch. My wife was born in a small town outside of Frankfurt, can't spell it, sorry. But i brought my wife here to eat and good lord did y'all embarrass me all sorts of ways to sunday. What a joke. Not allowed to order off the menu for a holiday, and your all you can eat buffet at $25 a head? Not 1 german dish in it. The way i see it, you stole $75 from me and my family with your garbage food. This is the first time I've ever considered contacting an attorney just because a restaurant was so terrible. I wish I could sue you for my bad experience. read more

Don't let the strip mall facade fool you-this is real German food at its BEST! Inside is cozy and charming with a wonderful hostess/waitress who took great care of us on my Son's 40th birthday. My Father and his family came from Germany just before World War 2 and I have eaten German food all of my life. Das Stein Haus made me long for my Father to be by my side to partake in dishes that would have made his whole face light up with pleasure and homecoming. My daughter in-law and I had theJaeger Schnitzel which is lean pork pounded thin and either breaded or unbreaded before it is cooked to tender perfection. It is topped with a mushroom, onion and pork gravy that made me want a bowl full of that alone! You have a choice of sides and we got the red cabbage and spatzel (or German macaroni) with its own simple and good brown gravy. Before the meal you have a choice of soup or salad. She had the pea soup and I had the fresh green salad with balsamic dressing. Needless to say-every plate and bowl that went back to the kitchen were completely cleaned! My son had the Chicken schnitzel, my granddaughter had the steak (cooked and seasoned perfectly) and she ate TWO helpings of red cabbage! My grandson had a pepperoni pizza off the extensive children's menu-with French fries and when he cleaned his plate of that he moved to stealing spatzel off of our plates. The prices are more than reasonable for the guality and quantity of food. For five people to have an incredible lunch (no alcohol) it came to $83 after taxes. Please give Das Stein Haus a try-it is a little bit of Germany right here in Spokane. read more

Dropped in for Lunch - just between appointments, so didn't want anything too heavy, you know? In the bar they have a special where they bring you out three types of their Brats - with REAL German Ground Mustard. So good - simple, yet satisfying! I saw others order full meals, and it looked and smelled amazing! This place is in a strip mall, near Safeway/Albertsons (Can't remember) in a lot with Burger King, Subway and Fatburger. You'd never think you'd find a place this cool in that location. Amazing food - good prices - I'm going to bring my family here! read more

Disappointed because I really wanted to like this place. Good German restaurants are few and far between. I got sauerbraten, which was super salty. It had some red wine reduction on top, which appeared to have been left on the stove too long and got far more concentrated and gooey than intended. They have a salad bar with German potato salad. Again, it was overly salted and I could almost smell the Maggi seasoning before I even sat down to eat it. Nothing wrong with Maggi, but it is really concentrated so that you don't need to douse the potato salad with it. We were unfortunately seated next to a family whose child was screaming and flinging food from his high chair. Obviously this is no fault of the restaurant, but only highlighted the disappointing experience. read more

Seriously wow. This place is legitimately amazing. I've been craving good German food and I had no idea about this place. The spaetzle was really good, lightly pan fried with a yummy cheesy sauce over it. The pretzels were homemade and so tasty. We orders the pork shanks which were tender, juicy and so flavorful, as well as the pork cutlets. Can't rave enough about this place, just wish it was closer to the south hill. read more

Best hot wings we have in a long time. Beer sampler was fun at a fair price. We shared the Chicken Schnitzel and it was amazing. Really liked the sauerkraut. The server was absolutely delightful and attentive pretty amazing service for how busy she was. read more

It is great! In house made food, nothing packaged, great service and reasonable. Highly recommend the platter if you have never had German food before. It's a great way to taste everything and decide what you like best. Very satisfied with the mustards too. read more

My husband and I came here because of a Restaurant.com coupon (which allows alcohol :)) and man we they delicious! I got the German Platter, which consisted of three brats, the spatzle, and schintzel. I ordered the big plate because I wanted left overs, and man did I have left overs! It was so yummy I was happy to eat it the next morning. My husband ordered just the original schintzel that came with the spatzle and kraut, and he enjoyed his as much as I did. Great beer and wine selection as well. We will definitely be going back! *one con; the wait was a little long, but they make everything fresh so it is expected, and worth it* read more

Food was great, although my dish wasn't as warm as I would like, flavors were wonderful. My family and I really enjoyed their sausage sampler platter as well as the pretzel w/ homemade cheese sauce! By far the best sausage and pretzels I've had! They were phenomenal! My son had the German Mac and cheese w/fries, which didn't disappoint either (son ate every last bit of it). I had one of their entrees offered on their 3 course meal menu for restaurant week (I can't quite recall the name) it was pork in a peppercorn sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and house veggies. Flavors were Great! Veggies were tasty, had a nice crunch to them still. Meat was super tender but It was Luke warm when it came out. Definitely could of used the extra heat other than that I had no problem with the dish. As for my bf he had the breaded cordon blue which was absolutely delicious! The sliced potatoes that came with were ok nothing to rave about but the breaded chicken was full of flavor and juicy! read more

This is the only German restuarant in town that I am aware of. They have several authentic German dishes along with American food if someone in your group isn't feeling up for bratwurst, snitzel, or spatzel. They also have a decent tap list which includes multiple German beers. Nice staff, decent food at affordable prices, what's not to like? read more

This is one of the few restaurants nearby that accepts our Dining Dough certificates, so we'd been excited to give it a try. As you walk through the double doors, the restaurant is divided in half, with the bar to the left & the restaurant to the right, with a menu board advertising 'new specials coming August 1!' but no hint as to what those specials might be. After we entered the restaurant portion, a hostess came out, seated us, & gave us menus. My husband really liked the atmosphere with the German music, the steins, the maps and pictures. A waitress came to give us water & take our drink orders, which we ended up deciding against. After a short time, she came back to take our food order. My husband asked about the sign out front & she told him about the special, which was 'something I can't pronounce but basically it's pork stroganoff'. He ordered the Stein Haus steak, 8 oz. with a loaded baked potato and sauerkraut, and I ordered the pork shanks with extra spätzle instead of a vegetable. To start, my husband had a salad & I had the daily soup, which was clam chowder since it's Friday. While waiting for our food, we got to "enjoy" the karaoke in the bar - always more enthusiasm than quality. The waitress brought out 3 small slices of a sourdough baguette with our soup & salad. My husband liked that the salad had more greens than just iceberg. My soup was filled to the brim...with potatoes. There were almost no clams in the chowder. Next came our entreés. The shanks were amazingly tender. There were 2 different sauces; one for the meat & one for the spätzle, and both were delicious. My husband's steak was tender as well, although it really needed a bit of salt. He liked his sauerkraut too, but got too full to finish his baked potato. It was all very good, & we'll probably eat here for special occasions in the future. read more

Cozy and fun German atmosphere. Service was pleasant and the food was delicious! German potato soup was warm and yummy and split the sampler- good idea as it was more than enough for two. The sauerkraut was obviously homemade & had tremendous flavor! Treated ourself to the Black Forest Torte for dessert= bomb! read more

Excellent, excellent!! Sat in the bar for lunch, nice atmosphere. Service outstanding by both servers!! Friendly and knowledgeable. Started off with hot wings, cooked to perfection. Shared the chicken schnitzel, very tasty. Server even split our meal and gave us each salads. Tried the beer sampler, delicious. Will be back!!! read more

Edible. Was really excited to try this place, but it was nothing special. Server was very friendly though.. menus were dirty and smelly. Just think they need to revamp and maybe have a more limited menu and make those items a little better. We ordered the pork shanks, which did not taste as though they were prepared fresh, chicken schnitzel and jaeger schnitzel. read more

The food was edible and the service was prompt and courteous. The menu was odd with German, Italian, Mexican, and Hawaiian choices. I had the Kase Spaeztle which I found greasy. The sauce tasted like it was made from a powder. I also had the chicken schnitzel. The crust was nice, but the sauce also tasted like a powder mix. The fried potatoes were not edible. They were greasy and soggy. My husband had the combination plate. The spaetzle on his plate was nice and the sauce was less salty than the other sauces. The bratwurst was decent, but not any better than grocery store bratwurst. I don't think I'll return. read more

We were visiting my wife's cousins in Spokane, and had a craving for German food. This fit the bill perfectly. Had the schnitzel and spaetzle and they were delicious. My wife, who in her youth worked in a German restaurant during the Worlds Fair in Spokane (yea, that dates me) was also quite happy. Not a fancy place, and the music from the karaoke next door was pretty loud as we were dining late, but the food and beer were excellent, the service friendly, and we all enjoyed ourselves. Daughter had the sauerbraten and it was very good as well. Our waitress was a sweet lady with a mild accent and her recommendations were spot on. read more

We've passed Das Stein Haus many times and have been meaning to stop in, so last night before the Chief's game we finally did. We were impressed with the beer selection - very good German beer! A lot of beers brewed by Bayern (Missoula, MT) as the brewmaster is from Germany. My personal favorite was the Dragon's Breath. We got the German Platter and it was very good! We will for sure be coming back for brats and beer! And hopefully they add a pretzel to the menu as well! :) Also, very good customer service. The owner, George, is very personable and made sure our meal was enjoyable. Yay for a German pub in Spokane! read more
