I adore Hunt. It's in a very old building with lots of history. The staircase you walk down is 125 years old. The many folks who have walked these stairs give me shivers. It feels like walking into an old beer cellar or something from a Wisconsin brewer's past. The food does not disappoint. I had the mushroom stroganoff and it was divine. The creamy sauce truly is a knock out and those mushrooms are sautéed to perfection. I wish I had taken a photo before my hungry bootahy ate it all. Listen up vegetarian peeps, you'll enjoy this dish. There're fun options for everyone. The barkeep definitely needs to be raved about. Hallie is knowledgeable and cares about the cocktail she prepares. She knows the classics and she'll work with any spirit needs you desire. She blended 2 rums for me to make a classic style daiquiri with a hint of the Plantation Pineapple Rum. That cocktail should just be named after the barkeep because she is as sweet as they come. The environment is a rad basement setting with all the speakeasy vibes but the staff make it warm as hell because of how inviting they are. They take reservations and they have cozy rooms for large get togethers. Do yourself a favor and get in here. An Old Fasioned and a Gimlet to start, accompanied our Smash Burger as well as the Linguini with Mushrooms and cream. Olive Oil cake was delicious as dessert. Don't let the name sway you. If it's in the menu try it. A simple but satisfying meal on this chilly Friday. We arrived at opening, 4 pm, as we had other obligations. I can see it being a nice venue for a special occasion, if you enjoy the food and/or if you're only having drinks. Our dedicated server was tremendous. I started with their classic French onion soup which was so flavorful and packed with hearty ingredients like beef broth & caramelized onions. For my main meal, I chose the salmon which was cooked to perfection! The flavor was unforgettable with a delicate balance of spices - definitely one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. Absolutely going back! I think the bad reviews were from when the place was finding it's groove. (There are no beans on the menu anymore lol). Hunt is among my favorite bars in town. Kind of a spooky vibe as you descend into the basement, it's lit mostly with candles and there's always a shot poured at the end of the bar as an offering for the ghosts. The drinks are amazing - Up The Stairs is my favorite on their current menu, but they're always changing. I went to their haunted bar event recently where they had live music, a fortune teller, and a gorgeous three course meal; Waldorf salad, shepherd's pie, and the BEST bread pudding I've ever had for dessert. I expect that will improve The service was very good by friendly and attentive staff. Our food was served quickly and the portions were generous. The pimento cheese was especially good and something to share. We'll have to return to try other menu items before I can say what I think other than it seems that the chef is trying interesting ideas. The seating is the most uncomfortable I've found anywhere. I am so sad to report that we had an awful experience. We were really looking forward to checking this place out based on the website and other reviews. The decor is super cool and inviting for any outdoor enthusiast. With the intention of sitting at the bar and just getting drinks, we were greeted by a bartender who was put off that we did not have reservations. We shared that the bar would be fine and we were just there for drinks. She gave us menus and never came back. The other bartender seemed to avoid eye contact and never came to our end of the bar. They most definitely were understaffed as it took about 20 minutes to receive a menu. This is understandable for me as new restaurants tend to have a few kinks in the beginning weeks of opening. Other than that, our drinks and the staff were fantastic. The whiskey selection was amazing, with rare bottles from the owner's private collection. One of my absolute favorite restaurants, I think reviews complaining about the food may not understand the aim or what they are trying to do. I think it is always spectacular with a farm to table approach that really highlights local cuisine and the region. Everyone agrees the ambiance or atmosphere is fantastic. I think anyone from your crunchy suburbanite to a staunch outdoors person would find the place appealing . The service considering Covid and construction in the area is always great in my book. If you have no patience go harass Teenagers at McDonalds. The staff are helpful kind and a pleasure to deal with. If you're just coming in for drinks you made a good choice the Cocktails are always delicious. If you have simple tastes you can still get what you need but my recommendation is don't miss out on a stellar part of the experience. The food here is interesting with more of a Wild game entree menu. The aesthetics of the place is warm with a lot of exposed rough wood ceilings and floors. The stools are lagged into the floor with small round wood tops which provide a great bleacher butt experience. The tables are small and not wide enough to provide a comfortable eating surface. Overall the environment is charming and comfortable but the seating is not. They provide a nice list of unique crafted cocktails which are pleasantly delicious! The food portions are small and not what you would expect for an entree type meal. I tried the wild boar schnitzel which was okay but heavily salted. Two drinks and an entree cost around $50.00 including the automatic 18% gratuity for groups of 6 and up. I found that pretty odd as it's usually for groups of 8 and up in the restaurant industry. Overall give it a try since it's new and I expect the quality and service to pick up as the kinks are worked out. read more

Hunt has a nice enough atmosphere. I wish the stools were movable. My friend and I shared the elk burger. When we ordered, we made it clear we were sharing and our waiter didn't bat an eye. The food came, our other friend ordered the rabbit stroganoff. When the elk burger came we could hardly contain our laughter at receiving our elk "burger" with an extra plate. The waiter also impressed, as he was able to deliver our shared food with a straight face. It was actually an elk slider served with no side. While the flavor was good (especially the bun), they do not have ketchup in the establishment. Of course, it would have needed very little based on its size. I had a nibble of the stroganoff, which I thought was delicious. But my friends thought it was too salty. They each had a Sazerac, while I enjoyed the red blend...both were very nice. Don't go expecting to share or if you are super hungry. I wish I read the another spot-on review regarding the size of the elk burger prior to our decision to share. I should add, I'd probably pay $15 for the duck, but that elk slider was not worth $15 (except for the humor). Truly disappointing. It was completely dead when we arrived and a two top came in right behind us. We were waiting for the rest of our party, and the two top went and sat somewhere else. There was one bartender and one server, and the serve didn't even turn around and let the couple know she would be right with them or anything, she was doing something at the register. The two top comes back around after 15 min. and asks " are we good to sit back here?" and the bartender says yes, we'll be right with you. The server still doesn't acknowledge this group. The remainder of our party arrives, the bartender seats us and we go without food menus for at least 15 min. Really frustrating, we finally ask for menus, and for most of the time, the bartender is serving us. Until we're ready to order food and finally the waiter arrives. She was very kind, but we did not feel like they wanted us to be there. I even mentioned it was a special occasion, and there still wasn't any rush or urgency to make sure we had menus, waters, anything. We spent $200 at your restaurant, and the food was okay, it was not as warm as I would have liked, but thats fine. I do expect more from your service, especially at your prices. read more

I was a guest there last night for Restuarant Week, great concept, ideas, and execution on all of the dishes. I wish the food would have been a little warmer in temperature.
