Phenomenal food and great service. Went there twice. Its hidden gem inside gold course. No we don't play golf. But we are foodie. Both times we ate there, their food was extremely delicious. Huckleberry Ribs and Roasted Lamb Chops are so freaking delicious. Highly recommend them. Very great environment, only wish it be little brighter for us. Great spot with a vibe that reminds me of Twigs Bistro. While there's no dedicated vegan menu, they do offer tofu as a substitute in the rice and veggie stir-fry, plus a salad option. The portion sizes are generous, you definitely won't leave hungry! It's also one of the rare restaurants in Spokane that serves sweet potato fries, which is a nice bonus. My husband and his friend have made 1898 their meeting place for the past six years. During that time they have gotten to know many of the staff, often on a first name basis, commiserated with them during hard times and rejoiced with them during joyful times. Thursday, March 5, they met and took up their usual place. Their conversation was all over the place from recent trips to the weather to the goings on in our world. Toward the end of their usual two hour meeting a staff member approached them--never identifying herself or her position--and demanded they pay up and leave. Perplexed they asked if they were being too loud--mind you there was one other group of people in the restaurant 40 or more feet away--and she sharply said no, and indicated they had offended the staff. They asked if they after they paid they could have a civil conversation to which this person said yes. They were intercepted on their way to the office by this person and four other people. She started yelling at them. At one point, she pointed to one of the people and yelled, 'And she's Albanian!" Puzzled, they said, "So what does that mean?" This person said, "I'm also gay!" Again, they said, "So, what difference does that make?" Evidently a staff member had eavesdropped and repeated what they thought they heard. Making a judgement call this person decided--with NEVER identifying herself or her position--that they needed to leave. They left a generous tip and left. This entire incident was handled in the MOST unprofessional manner. If you visit 1898 make sure you ask the staff what you can and cannot say so not to offend. WE will never return to this establishment and are urging all of our friends to do the same. read more

We had a wonderful dinner the other night with our friends. We sat that the window overlooking the beautiful greens. I do not golf but enjoyed the view anyway. There were deer grazing out on the grass. It was so fun to watch them. Had the salmon Oscar. It was delicious and a very generous helping. Our server was engaging and very friendly. We were there for a couple hours just visiting and felt totally at home. Yes, I would recommend going here for a nice night out and delicious dining. How this place has the overall review that it has is pretty astounding. I went with my family for my first time to eat here and was disappointed to say the least. Starting off the experience, my server forgetting to take my order after taking my family's and had to walk back to the table as she remembered. I ordered the brisket hash and when I received my order it was barely warm almost cold. I said something to server and all she did was told the cook. Didn't even apologize or take it off my bill (I didn't eat it) I had also ordered a Bloody Mary and when I got my bill I noticed an up charge for Tito's vodka that I never asked for. Delicious brunch! My favorites are brisket Benedict and short rib Benedict. Omg so good!! My mom got the eggs and ham breakfast. My son got the Belgae waffles and they scarfed it down. My husband got the burger and he loved it. The service was great and friendly NOT snobby which might be what you might expect from a fancy golf course but it's super done to earth. Beautiful views! This is our go to fancy restaurant in the north. We have loved everything we have had. Last time we went for just apps and drinks, but decided to get a steak salad as well. The Brussels sprouts are always amazing that we usually get 3 orders when my family goes. However this time my wife and I just got one order and two drinks. I tried their Old Fashioned and loved it. It got me on trying different bourbons after this.. My wife had her usual Cosmo. The steak salad was amazing and hit the spot. The bartender was very friendly and was quick to get the drinks out. Service has improved in recent years no complaints there. However a few of the menu items and drinks fell a little flat. Our drinks seemed to take awhile and were mediocre. We also got a Thai salad that was overly bland and honestly a little awkward. There were 3 giant hunks of cabbage almost like little bowls with more of a slaw type salad and 2 pieces of broccoli. The salad was overly wet. The dressing had me wondering if Lacroix made it. Just a hint of flavor but mostly water. We were excited to try the peach crème brûlée, while the crème brûlée was good the peach was like eating an out of season peach. Considering we're are at the peak of peach season locally I would think they could source in season fruit. Admittedly we didn't mention to our server and get that this is partially on us. It's restaurant week and we decided to visit 1898 again. We have always had great food and experiences here so, we definitely wanted to go back. We had a reservation and were seated quickly upon arrival. The restaurant was PACKED. Quite a few large groups. It was SO LOUD that our server couldn't even hear us. She misheard drink orders and we ended up having to yell to get the correct one ordered. It's restaurant week and restaurants are not limiting capacity anymore so I get they may be louder, but this just isn't a great dining experience. Especially for a more expensive or upscale restaurant. For starters my husband and I got the Ahi tuna Nachos and the rock prawns. The prawns were great, but nothing exceptional. The Ahi nachos however, omg. Amazing. The flavor was perfection. My only complaint would be that the toppings to chip ratio was way off. For our second course we both got the Bacon wrapped Sirloin. We both agreed, if it wasn't on special for restaurant week, we would have been really upset. The bacon around the steak was soggy, the steak itself was so dry (overcooked), and was seriously lacking in flavor. The presentation was beautiful though and the asparagus and potatoes it was served with were pretty good. My daughter got the kids pasta and she loved it. It was a huge kids serving! For dessert we got the chocolate decadence and the donut - both were pretty average. The donut was odd - it was like a bun cut in half like a sandwich and then custard in the middle. Wasn't great and awkward to eat. The service: our server was fantastic. She was available when we needed, catered to our toddler, and was extremely kind and thoughtful. WOW! My friend and I went here for dinner tonight. It was FABULOUS! Reading another Yelp review, I got the Huck Fin martini and it came with additional drink in a separate shaker. Essentially ended up with 2 1/2 drinks for one. It was a great recommendation. My friend and I both started with a salad, it was fresh and the ranch dressing was tasty. I ordered pasta Jambalaya off the March fresh-sheet menu. I wouldn't call it jambalaya, but Cajun pasta would better describe it. Regardless of the name, it was really good. My friend ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and she said it was cooked to perfection. Crunchy exterior and succulent inside. We had a very enjoyable evening and both highly recommended. read more

Fabulous views, awesome bar, nice atmosphere for a couple or a group and beautiful view of the course. We had a few lemon drops. I tried the huckleberry lemon drop and the others had the strawberry lemon drop. After a few sips we all voted for the huckleberry version. Very tasty. And it came with an additional shaker for a second drink. Very generous pour. The river eggrolls with the Sriracha aïoli it was unique and very savory. The brussels sprouts with bacon was cooked perfectly and a nice serving. I would come here just for the drink and appetizers. We were disappointed with the other choices. The food was incredible and the view of the golf course was beautiful. I've been here 2 times and both times was sitted next to very loud tables. I specifically asked this time to be at a quiet table. We were not and there were plenty of tables available. It makes it both hard to hear your quests and hard to relax and enjoy the meal. The hostess did not smile once and made us feel as though we were a bother to her. I've been a hostess years ago and I suppose that's what it bothered me so much. Our waiter was absolutely fabulous! The poor guy needed help with all the guests. But he kept a smile on his face and worked as fast as he could. Because he didn't have any help we needed to wait 30 minutes for our food. Food was fair, service was decent (she was almost trying to hard), and the gratuity was added with confusion (23 percent) on 4 sheets of paper that is not explained to see if the customer will add more on the tip that is already built into the Bill. I think you should have a chance of tipping or not if so then it should be at the customers choice not the restaurant. So just be aware of the fact that you can leave with a large bill. read more

Amazing food! Hubby & I visited this place during restaurant week & it did not disappoint. I had the Ahi Tuna Crudo & he had the short rib quesadilla. Both were delicious! They did not skimp on the portions either. I kept eating the appetizers that I forgot I had a whole entree. Hubby had the Southwestern Sirloin & I had the Mediterranean chicken. The sirloin was so appetizing & my favorite part was the sweet potatoes. The cubes were yummy but they also had sweet potato flakes & I LOVED them, they were lightly crispy. The Mediterranean chicken was okay and the rice was delicious. I had the crème brûlée & he had the chocolate PB cake. The brûlée was so good! The cake was super rich but he liked it a lot. The location is so beautiful! It's located on a golf course & it was nice that there were huge windows overlooking the green scape. Overall, great experience. On the weekends they have mimosa flights and a build your own Bloody Mary! I loved all the different flavors for the mimosas and bloody Mary's. The star of the meal is the biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was soft and flakey and the sausage gravy had so much flavor it was delicious. It was a little salty, but still very good. The eggs Benedict was amazing. It's hard to find a really good eggs Benedict, and there's was great. The Denver omelette was packed with toppings on the inside and eggs were nice and fluffy. We were sat at the window so it had a nice view of the course. This may be our new go to spot for breakfast, and we can't wait to try dinner. read more

What an experience at 1898. I'll keep it short because the other reviews here tell the tale. The atmosphere is relaxed with a steady hum of groups talking over their meals overlooking the beautifully manicured golf course. Exceptionally tasty and well-balanced dishes from start to finish. Ahi poke is an absolute must try with all of its flavors and textures. Plus, it's surprisingly filling. Chilean sea bass was our favorite entree with its blend of flaky, perfectly cooked sea bass, creamy sauce, and potatoes. Serving staff is kind and attentive without being intrusive. And everyone wore their masks. Parking is a plenty (and free). We were glad to have chosen 1898 to celebrate our anniversary and will absolutely be back to try their other offerings. read more

I want to start by saying I have been a fan of 1898 for many years. But over the last several years it has gone down hill. It appears that they change the menu way more than they should. The original menu was fantastic. We came here with a party of 13 for an after event from a funeral (now we had wished we went to Twigs). The service started out great, but that was short lived. They took our drink and food order and all was well until.... Our waitress never came back to ask if needed refills or more drinks. Someone in our party had to find our server who was talking to a co-worker. This was at 4pm and they were not busy. We got our next order of drinks in and refills and was told our food would be out shortly. First all the kids who ordered cheeseburgers got grilled cheese. Next my salad which I specifically asked for different dressing came out with the original dressing. My order is a little different as I am Celiac, so it should have been easier to get right. They were apologetic and said they would fix it. My salad came out the exact same way but with the right dressing on the side but the original dressing still all mixed in! By this point I am upset as everyone else is eating, except for someone else who didn't get their cheeseburger. My kids and an adult who usually eat everything hardly ate their burger. Finally on the 3rd try they got my salad correct. People also asked for sides of condiments and that took forever to receive. Not that we were looking for anything to be comped, they didn't offer anything and our server said they were so sorry they have NEVER had this happen (ya right!). My kids all left hungry and we took them to McDonald's. 2 people who had burgers ended up in the bathroom 10mins within being home. The food overall was not great like it used to be. They have unfortunately lost some lifelong customers. read more

Excellent!! We came here for my birthday dinner. Hubby found it online. I had the filet mignon and he had the cedar plank salmon. My steak was cooked perfectly, he said his salmon was a little overdone. Mine came with the most divine mashed potatoes and veggies. I added mushrooms and onions. My steak was one of the BEST I have had in a LONG time. They even gave us a lemon dessert for my birthday to go!! Can't say enough good about it. Tables are big and well spaced. We had dinner at 1898 Public House on May 3rd with two other couples to celebrate an anniversary. Three of us ordered the Seafood Scampi on linguine. The dish came out with pasta that looked like Top Ramen noodles. They were dry and stuck together. There were three prawns, three tiny scallops and one small piece of crabmeat in the dish. If you're going to offer a seafood dish, I would think you would put some seafood on the plate. Especially at $40! We were very disappointed. read more
