Finding a restaurant that your cranky 71 year old (but amazing) father likes in a town that he has to "travel" to (I live 30 mins from him) is easier said than done, but after taking my pops to Das Biergarten, he couldn't stop singing this spot's praises. I come to Das as much as I can-- It's a clean, aesthetically pleasing restaurant at the end of Beech Street on the borderline of East Atlantic Beach and Long Beach. The inside is super fun--a large bar with clean taps that deliver the freshest beer. I love the murals and picnic table style seating, which gives you a feeling that you're outside on a lovely spring afternoon (I feel like you should remember this next time you're hungry on a bone chilling Saturday in January!). The waitstaff is beyond courteous and attentive (sometime's they'll wear authentic cute outfits---can you get better than that? yes, you can! read on!) The food is fresh, made to order. I usually stay classic and order my usual classic bratwurst. Family and friends have ordered every from the Das Pretzel (maybe not great for bikini season, but tasty to soak up that tall beer you're going to def have two of!) to the entrees (jagerschnitzel) to the soups and salads (I also love the cucumber salad as an option with the sammies). All my peeps have been happy and content with their meals. My picky parents can't stop talking about the potato salad, which the awesome owner said was a family recipe. I'd like to mention that the owner is very personable and goes above and beyond to make sure his guests are comfortable. This means a lot. Das is the one place in Long Beach/EAB that my family is happy to visit over and over again (so much so that I get them a gift card when the holidays roll around). Das's annual party in September is so fun--highly recommend getting down there to check it out... I mean... polka covers of rock n' roll classics? Sign me up! Das Biergarten is without a doubt one of my favorite restaurant/bars on LI. The beer selection is focused on German beers, which adds to the authenticity the only issue I had was with the IPA, which isn't the "traditional" American IPA. But honestly that's alright - it's not really a German beer style anyway. My favorite beer is the combo of 1/2 Grapefruit beer and 1/2 Pilsner. Thank me later. As for the food, everything is delicious. I've had the fish schnitzel sandwich and the lobster roll. Both were perfectly cooked and excellent. The warm potato salad and sauerkraut are also fantastic. The atmosphere is very comfortable and authentic. The layout been mentioned in other reviews, so I'll just say that I love it Overall you can't go wrong with the place. There are some cuisines best left to the pros. I'd argue German is one of them. Went here Sunday after brunch. Staff (our server was Valerie) is extremely accommodating without being intrusive. Always a plus! Ordered the Best/Wurst platter, potato pancakes, burger, schnitzel, schnitzel sandwich, two desserts. You know when you're full but just can't seem to stop stuffing your face? Definitely the situation here at the Biergarten. I would dig in on a STACK of the pork schnitzel - it's paper thin, perfectly crisp, and obviously quite fresh. Would legitimately order the entire meal all over again, but I'm intrigued by their brunch offerings (if you make it before 2:30, there's a patty melt that sounds epic as well as a sandwich crafted with a Dough Hut confection. I would like to begin my review by stating that I rarely write negative reviews on restaurants. I have a great deal of respect for people in the food service industry. I do my utmost best to be respectful and patient. We excitedly sat down and waited a half hour for the waitress to bring us menus. We placed our orders, immediately upon receiving our menu, as we resorted to looking online. Myself and my party chatted for awhile and 45 minutes later we realized that our food did not arrive. Our waitress was nowhere to be found, no update as to why our food was taking so long. Fifteen minutes later we asked about our food, we received a terse reply that the kitchen was backed up. We waited another 20 minutes and explained that we have waited over an hour. The waitress said I can't help that we are backed up in the kitchen, no apology. 1.5 hours after our order was taken we asked to speak with the manager. The waitress said the manager cannot come out he is also the cook. We asked how much longer, the waitress stated "awhile," we asked for the check for our drinks. She nastily gave us our check without an apology. We will not be frequenting this establishment again in the future. read more

Authentic German food inspired by an authentic German roots. The restaurant has picnic tables and has a sports bar vibe, but I've also seen them host events such as birthday parties. I feel like the best way to fit in is to wear a flannel shirt, but I'm all seriousness the food was great and you get so much beer for a very reasonable price. Came here with my husband who's German. He enjoyed the food especially with a big glass of beer. I'm not a beer drinker but the grapefruit flavored beer was pretty good. Loved the extra soft pretzel with homemade mustard and cheese sauce. I didn't eat much but their version of Mac n cheese. And he had the bratwurst with potato salad and red cabbage. Also, the atmosphere is nice and the owner stopped by our table. Had small talk and made some suggestions for our next visit. This restaurant was very busy and looked More like a sports bar then a German resturaunt. There are several large tables with benches that are shared with other guests. Nice selection of beers. My wife enjoyed her saurbratin dinner but it was a very small portion. I had the 3 wursts dinner, it was ok, nothing special. The homemade rice pudding was excellent for dessert. Came here with a friend who had previously been there and recommended it. She talked about how nice the staff was and how great the food was. We arrived around 9:30/10 and were told immediately after stepping through the door there was no food available. That's fine we'll have a drink, no big deal. One friend asked what was on tap, I ordered a cider (bartender gave me whatever one they had-didn't ask/tell me what kind) and my other friend order whatever Pilsner they have on their menu (which was not what she was given). I paid for our three drinks, totaling $20. Signed the receipt. Gave the bartender $10 cash tip. My friend gave him another $5 in cash. Had I known that, I too would have handed him a five. Things were fine while we were enjoying our drinks, played with the grimy jenga and deck of cards and basically kept to ourselves. It wasn't that full of customers, which I did think was weird for a Friday night. My friend decided to order another beer and we stayed a while longer. As we were getting ready to leave she went to pay her tab and had to come back to the table for me because the bartender charged her $21 for her beer- saying that she had to pay for the first round of 3 beverages. I'm not a mathematician, but 4 beverages shouldn't equal $21 if 3 beverages were $20. The bartender got extremely nasty when we questioned the bill. He proceeded to go through all of the debit/credit receipts in front of us until I saw my signature. He then made a snide comment about me not tipping him on the receipt. To which I replied, "I gave you a ten." By this point, I could tell he was drunk or on something. He became extremely belligerent and rude, making unnecessary comments as he decided to 'comp' my friends beer. Apparently not saying thank you for letting the bartender 'pay for your drink' is means for treating a paying customer with extremely sub-par hospitality. We tried to leave whatever explosion he was having there and be on our way. No, he had to come around the bar to escort us out...and continue to rudely and nastily say "thanks for your business." I did tag myself and my two friends on Facebook that we were there having a drink. A few friends commented on how much they love the place. It's going to be disappointing to tell them they should spend their money elsewhere. ** quick edit after reading my friends review below and the answer from the business owner*** ...now I understand why we had such a bad experience. First off, there's absolutely no professionalism. Secondly, let's berate a customer about their bad experience in your establishment. I have been meaning to write this review for quite some time now. I had my husband's 30th birthday here back in October. Everything was perfect! Andrew worked out a great menu and price that included open bar for me. He went above and beyond and everyone is still talking about what a great time they had! I went back for happy hour the other day and I was happy to see that the service was just as fantastic and the food was just as delicious as it was for the party. Really neat little spot on the outside of The West End in Long Beach. Picnic tables, servers (women only) in lederhosen. Great beer selection, food was good, too. I only tried the potato salad and pretzel but they were both really good. Decided to give the place a try despite some of the negative reviews. It is local for me. The service was bad and the attitude of the staff was worse. We arrived at 9:30PM on a Friday night. They were not too busy. We didn't even have a glass of water by 10:00PM. The bus boy cleared half the table and that was the extent of the service. We left. Judging from the Owner's smarmy responses to the prior negative reviews, I'd say the lack of caring about the customers comes from the top. Not looking for a free Sundae as the Owner if fond of saying. Just using social media as intended. Sharing information so people can choose to spend their money at an establishment that cares and appreciates their customers. I would stay away from Das Biergarten. read more

Alright Das Biergarter, I'm in. Love that the owners took this basic looking building and really turned it into a beautiful theme bar. Inside, skylights flood the place with sun, and the walls have been painted to simulate the ambiance of a traditional outdoor beer garden. Naturally, wooden picnic tables line the room where patrons intermingle, play board games, and sip giant steins of about 10 or so varieties of authentic German beers. What throws this place over the top is the food...it won't call it "authentic" German, because I don't really know, but it sure is good. The beer cheese soup? Yes please. Giant kielbasa sandwich with fresh kraut on a pretzel roll? Don't mind if I do. Can't wait to try everything else. A warning- be careful with those mugs of beer...they can really sneak up on you, especially if you've also been pressed into a shot ski or two. read more

Passed DB many times and recently got a glowing recommendation from a co-worker. Tried last night and we cannot say enough positive things. The owner and staff were very welcoming and service was spot-on. For some reason, they were out of burgers (odd for a Friday night), but plenty of other choices. We had potato pancakes (3 to the order), a chicken sandwich on a pretzel roll, and the wurst platter from the appetizer. The platter contained three wursts, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and a huge bowl of very fresh pretzels nuggets. A martini and a light pilsner put me into a blissful food coma! Planned my husband's surprise 40th birthday party for almost 100 people here and all I can say is they are incredible. Andrew the owner worked with me from day one to plan the perfect party and was accommodating in every way, the food was top notch appetizers of pretzels Bavarian nachos and potato pancakes were a huge hit only to follow up with jaegerschnitzle that melts in your mouth the sausages over kraut were awesome I didn't get a chance too sample German mac and cheese but everyone said they it was incredible. The staff were unbelievably amazing the bartenders assured no one was ever wanting for a drink the food the bkitchen staff were putting out was delicious and the 15 year old bus boy gave me hope for the next generation such a hard working young man if anyone is looking for a great place to have a party or just to hang out with long beach locals this is it. I've only come here for brunch on two occasions - one being last year when they did an AYCD brunch for $20 (but they have done away with that now) and last week. The food is alright, but we don't come for the food really, we come for the massive grapefruit flavored mimosas and ginormous steins of beer.... and drunk Jenga. It's a bit of a walk in the blazing sun on a Saturday afternoon, but worth it for some boozy fun. Stopped in on a rainy afternoon for a business lunch. Robbie was a knowledgeable and friendly host and guided us for selections. We started with the soft pretzel app which was warm and delicious, served with cheese soup and mustard to dip. We shared the Schweindhaxe, tender roast pork, crisp outside, falling off the bone, so tender, accompanied with potato dumpling and apple cabbage. Finished with authentic apple strudel a la mode. Best German Food in NY and amazing authentic beer selections. You won't be disappointed!

First of, I am from Germany, specifically Bavaria but live in the US since a decade. My FIL brought me out here to enjoy a piece of home during lunch-time on a weekday. The manager Rob a LI local was very friendly, the beer selection was good, including several Bavarian classics and wheat beers on tap, which tasted fresh and the taps were flushed out properly, not a given often times.. Since the place seemed to be "Beerfest" movie inspired, everything German is called "Das", including the name of the restaurant and several menu items, which is often the wrong article and a bit wrong. It should be called "Der Biergarten", but I get that it would confuse the clientele more than it would help. As others have stated, in Germany, especially in Bavaria a Biergarten is restaurant with mostly outdoor seating preferably with benches and tables under large chestnut trees, not the case here, just indoors. Overall it had a pretty decent German vibe, having been to various US "German" places, with actual German/Austrian owners, like Fritz und Franz in Miami or other places, where only half of the food items were German menu items, the rest US pub fare, like burgers, sandwiches wraps etc to cater to the US taste. Das Bierhaus has actually a lot of classic German restaurant foods listed. We ended up going with the managers recommendation the Schweinshaxe, which is a roasted pork shank. The pork shank was good, not great, the red cabbage was good, the potato dumpling not so much. Overall it was OK. The meal for two and 3 0.5 liter beers ended up more on the pricey side. The owners would benefit of a bit more authentic flair and some assistance in the kitchen by someone who knows how to cook the dishes closer to real German ones, which would probably still keep the effort for the chef the same and improve the taste. Long story short, still recommendable, would come back if I would live closer. read more
