    German beer of course!
    Michelle B.

Food is always great, service sometimes lacks though. For example we walked in and stood there for about 4 minutes before someone came out to say hello and seat us. If you can get past that this is absolutely a great German place to come enjoy. Great beer as well

Makes me sad to write this, but my once favorite German, this place spot seems to have fallen victim to the high costs and overall changes in the industry. I can't place my finger in it, but our favorite dishes just didn't seem what they once were. Also, at one time every meal came with the house salad. This is the one thing I look forward to the most when coming here. If I would've known this, I would have ordered completely differently. I also have to say, it's still fairly off putting when it's urged to make a reservation when it's 4:30pm and the restaurant is fairly empty. We came on a whim because we love this restaurant. This is not to say the food is not good. It's still tasty, and the portions are very large. The one major complaint I have was our stuffed pretzels were very burnt. The pretzels that came out prior to our apps and meals were much better. They also did not have my favorite German chocolate cake. Not sure if they were out, or they don't feature it anymore, but this was so disappointing. Their cake is my absolute fav and Hubs got a whole one for me for my birthday one year. At least I hope it still is my favorite. With the bakery gone, I'm not sure if they are still making their cakes in house. It was actually our first time sitting in the area that was once their bakery. They did a great job of making this part of the restaurant cohesive with the original space. Still feels like we went to the old country for a bit. Our service was great although be prepared to wait a while for your food. It's made to order. Are we running to go back....not sure if we are anymore, maybe I'll have to because I still miss my salad.

Came back to the lindenhurst area to see A show so we had to stop by the Village Lantern because I wanted to get the Stuffed Cabbage w schnitzel. Come to find out, it isn't on the menu anymore! Big dissapointment. So I got the pounded veal crusted and fried with the schnitzel. My partner got the Meatballs with the egg noodles and gravy. The Meatballs were our least favorite. Guess we'll have to find another place that makes authentic Stuffed Cabbage.

A lovely liter of Hofbräu hefeweizen.

I love German food, and had been to the Village Lanterne once before, for my birthday dinner in 2013, and really enjoyed it, but for whatever reason hadn't gotten back there. Our fencing club recently had a club lunch at the Village Lanterne's beer garden so I got to try them out again. I noticed they offered a special platter called "The Schwab," which included sauerbraten, jägerschnitzel, weisswurst, spaetzle and red cabbage. Now, before I was born, my German grandparents used to teasingly call each other "Schwab" (my late grandpa Ludwig actually was a Swabian from Oberstdorf), so of course I had to order this, and it was grand. I didn't need to eat any dinner! Also shared some fine potato pancakes with a clubmate. Washed it down with a lovely liter of Hofbräu hefeweizen. The biergarten is pretty (though make sure you get one of the shaded tables), and the service was friendly.

Decided on going out for some German eats and boy we weren't disappointed!...The food, beers, ambiance and the live music were great...a must try!!! The service was great as all the staff was dressed in Bavarian clothing...Great restaurant!!!

Ok hands down ....best German restaurant I've been to in years! Food was fantastic from start to finish every appetizer and entree one better than the next. The live music was so fun first time I can ever say I've seen anyone play Metallica, and kiss played on an accordion. We had a large party and the accommodated us with great service. Can't wait to go back this summer s the most fun I've had at a restaurant in forever.

Holy Schnitzel this place is amazing!!! I am in town for work and always like to find local/ interesting places for dinner and had to check this place out. I sat at the bar and the bartender was great! Wednesday nights all of their Schnitzel nights... "I don't give a Schnitzel" So I had to obviously get the Reuben schnitzel and omg was it incredible! The restaurant transports you into a restaurant in Germany and is adorable. There is also live music!

The staff are so lively and wonderful! Food portion was huge and definitely needed a to-go box. The drinks and beer options were plenty and tasty. Definitely glad this caught our eye and popped in. It was an over great experience, around great people.

Came here in a Thursday night with my brother and a friend. Was able to get seated even though we didn't have a reservation- very busy. Very nice waitress with some great recommendations. She recommended the Reuben Eggrolls which were amazing. My friend ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, my brother the Rouladen, and I got the Angry Mike's Schwabie Platter. Food was great. Can't wait to come back again.

Stopped in for New Years and was very impressed! I've never had sauerbraten before but was blown away by it! Might be my favorite German food now. All the other appetizers and dinners were also great! Also, if you like beer, this place does not disappoint!

Such a beautifully decorated and festive interior. Beautiful ambiance. Waitstaff dresses in Bavarian dress. Lots of booths and separate little dining areas for small gatherings/ parties. Really nicely arranged. Food was well made but be mindful that almost everything has meat in it! We knew that going in, but not to this extent! We don't eat meat, and so you might say, why the heck did you go to a German restaurant, and you might be right! But they had three fish dishes and salads etc. the encrusted salmon was delicious served with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The mashed potatoes had bacon in it , which the staff had not mentioned. We really threw the waitress off kilter, although she was always pleasant and helpful! The stuffed pretzel had meat in it . Fortunately the chocolate cake did NOT have meat in it. In conclusion, it is a fun , festive , friendly place, with live music- playing contemporary and folk music. There is a beer garten in the back but closed in cold weather . So there are vegetarian options but unfortunately you will Need to ask questions about whether there is meat in it. If you eat meat, things definitely the place to go. Lots of exciting food!

    What about parking?

Parking for this location is either metered out front on Wellwood or in any of the municipal lots behind it. There is also free side residential street parking. Just make sure there aren't any extra signs that say only certain days/times.

Do they have a accordion player?

I've been there on a Friday night and they have a polka band that goes from section to section. It's a lot more fun than it sounds actually.

Anyway, we're glad we got in here for an early bird dinner with our three kiddos (and no wait either!) Food and service did not disappoint and the restaurant was well-decorated for Christmas too :) Yes, meals are a bit on the pricier side but portions are generous and (as someone who LOVES German food), I have to say the jagerschnitzel and sauerbraten were spot on! We started off with the obligatory Bavarian pretzel, which is cooked to order and easy to share around for a family of four. We also ordered a bowl of their onion soup which had a surprisingly flavorful broth and was delicious down to the very last scoop. It was a nice departure from some variants where once you pierce through the top cheese layer, you're eating boring beef broth. I wish the family well (believe they're retiring and trying to sell the business) and maybe keep my fingers crossed new owners will keep up the German cuisine!

They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and serving up amazing meals at each. Choose from 5 different gravies and then your schnitzel. Traditionally served with pork or veal, but they do have chicken or eggplant as well! I went with the classic Weinershnitzel which is traditionally served with veal schnitzel and served with brown gravy. Lindsey got the Chicken Rahmschnitzel which is schnitzel topped with a creamy white reisling-infused mushroom gravy. Both were filled with flavor and we were very impressed! All schnitzel is served with spätzle, seasonal vegetables, and red cabbage. This was the definition of a comfort meal that. We started with their Bavarian Cheese Board, and classic German appetizers - potatoes pancakes paired with this insane apple butter, and potato dumplings with your choice of gravy. We loved the vibe in there. Great pub style feel but also nice indoor and outdoor eating. Our server Eden was amazing and such a great help! We truly loved this place and we can wait to go back! We started off with appetizers- which are really great for sharing- perogies for the Hubby and I had the liver dumpling soup- both were fantastic. Hubby had the German mixed salad with his meal, the special was sausage with both chicken and pork Schnitzel and potatoes, I had the sauerbraten with potatoes and we both had a side of the sauerkraut. We took a To-Go of the stuffed chicken breast with mozzarella and spinach and soup, with broccoli and an order of perogies. 2 Root beers, and he had the apple strudel and I ordered the Bienenstich. Our server was Karen- I want to give a huge thank you to her, she was an absolute delight, sweet, friendly and made sure our dinner was perfect, she is wonderful and next time we come for dinner, we hope she is our waitress. Food was incredible, I have not had "family" style German food in probably 13 years if not longer- I used to eat all the time at Alpine Village in Torrance Ca and at Phoenix Club in Brea Ca- both I was a long time foodie at, and never had a bad meal! It is so great to know that Sebastian's is our new place for delicious German food. Dinner for the 3 was roughly $180.00, but before you say "that's a lot", the food is delicious, the wait staff is amazing and both my husband and I gladly pay good money for fantastic food, like what we had here at Sebastian's.

CASH ONLY CASH ONLY…read moreCASH ONLY CASH ONLY Did I mention CASH ONLY So we are thinking about getting Christmas Eve dinner catered from here, so we tried it out yesterday. There was a decent amount of confusion and dialect disconnect, but I believe they have most of their regular menu available. We also ordered a bunch of different items to taste test and we were extremely happy! Let me get into my issue... At no point until I walked into the restaurant, did they mention cash only, oh and check! They take checks! But they never list if on ther website, or any social media sites. They do not mention it over the phone either... so I walk in expecting to pay with card and wham. CASH ONLY... They do have an ATM on site, but to use it, you need an ATM card or a pin on your CC, which I did not have. My FiL had to meet me half way back with cash so I could pay. I really wish they post it online or somewhere people can see before walking in.... I had half a mind to cancel lol! Well that's my gripe! Ordering food, there was a slight language barrier as well. But all in all, it went OK. The lot needs better lighting and or a sign that points to the main entrance. We walked the wrong way and ended up at tables and chairs in storage.... It is very very very homey inside. Very homey. It feels like Oma's living room. With Hummel and biersteins everywhere, and it mean everywhere! Do not bring young kids here lol! It does look nice though! Must but nightmare to dust... Service is unique, the owner was trying to make small talk, and this is after my cash issue, I was kind of zoned out... also had 2 kids that were surprisingly behaving! I got super lucky with that lol! I was able to pay cash and he threw in a few items for free, he gave me a potato soup and a Rahm sauce. Brought the food home and feasted! I got the triple schnitzel combo with Veal, pork, chicken. All were delicious, I like the brown gravy (which had a nice tang) as well as the Rahm sauce with it. By itself it was good, I think they do it more Italian style with only breadcrumbs and no flour, but it was still good. The Veal was the best, but small! The other 2 were very good! I subbed mash for home fries which had sautéed onions and were a great touch, but it needed salt. The sauce helped! I also got a side or spaetzle, which were good but needed sauce and or salt, and did not have much seasoning. But that is German food... I'm not saying its bland, but its sauce heavy! Perogies were absolutely killer! I want a tray lol! Great filling, super soft, great taste! Wife and FiL had the chicken cordon blue, and they were huge!!! They were delicious, but even better with the Rahm sauce. I need a gallon of it lol! Wife liked the Red cabbage, I enjoyed it as well, great flavor. I personally like it sweeter. FiL had the mash and like it. I also got Linzer Tarts which disappeared very quickly lol! Everyone enjoyed them! All in all a great meal, I wish they'd let you know cash only... we look forward to getting catering on Christmas Eve!

The spaetzle was soft and creamy, covered in lots of flavorful aged cheese with salty bacon bits and sweet onion. A very rich dish.
