Daphne's - Rock hard! And inedible! - Greek Near Me - Roseville, California

I love the lemony rice soup but so expensive...also love that their take out containers are compostable.

If you're new to Daphne's menu I would suggest starting with the classic Greek salad with gyro meat! And if your into eating more meat than anything ask to "double the protein." Sooooo goooooood! The lemon chicken soup with pita triangles is also super delicious. Great staff and environment. Wait time varies but I haven't personally been in a rush while dining here. read more

Hubby wanted greek food tonight, so we settled on this place. We had frequented the location in Elk Grove, but hadn't been to this one since we moved a couple years ago. I'm very glad we tried this place. We were very surprised to see a 3-course dinner for $7. I was wondering just how much food you would get, but you get an appetizer, main dish, 2 side dishes, and a dessert. It was more food than either of us could eat. Not so much a fan of the sauteed veggies as they were soggy like they had been microwaved to be reheated. The baklava was fabulous. We ordered the gyro kid's meal and it was more than enough for our 2 year old. They even gave him a bag of apples so he could much on something while he waited for his dinner. The entire staff was super friendly and really good with our toddler. We got out of there for $20 for all 3 of us. Definitely will be back. read more

Came in and stood for a couple of minutes at the cash register before a couple of rude young ladies, who acted like they'd rather be cleaning toilets, finally appeared. After we ordered and were waiting to eat I noticed an advertisement on the tables titled "Kids Eat Free Sunday". I asked one of the young ladies what this was and she said "Oh, kids get a free kids meal when you order an entree." I guess this slipped her mind when we ordered food for two kids! Great food but terrible service. read more

Horrible. 9 months pregnant, in labor and advised to eat something so ordered a bowl of lentil soup to go en route to hospital and got a cup of chicken. Not to mention rude person taking order. Tried to call for a refund a half hour before close and no answer, full voicemail. Inconsistent and unprofessional. Better Greek all over the place, don't go here. read more

I've always liked coming here for lunch! The food is good and consistent. The reason I give this place 5 stars is not only for the food but the customer service. The staff is always nice, they bring the food out to you and occasionally check on you to make sure everything is okay. I always have a good conversation with a staff member! It anyone wants some quick easy Greek food and great service stop by here! read more

We used to love it here until they changed their menu. Expect to wait a while. Cook made our salads without gloves on. Yikes!

Came here at 8:14PM, sign displayed closed by 8pm on Sundays. The door wasn't locked yet so my friends and I went in. The cashier was nice enough to make us 3 the last orders. We ordered the 7 dollar 3 course dinner meal. Pretty good considering we came all the way out to see a show at the Boardwalk in Orangevale and couldn't decide where to eat. I had the red pepper hummus & pita ,chicken ka-bob & crispy shrimp, salad & rice, and baklava It was good considering we didn't really have any food before the show. (went to see Sleeping With Sirens, awesome band) Anyway the cashier was really nice, we ate outside and he even left the door unlocked if we wanted to get refills on drinks or whatever. Checked up on us to make sure the food was good and that we were satisfied. I'm giving them brownie points for excellent service even when they're supposed to be closed. Overall, good place to go to if you don't feel like eating junk food. read more

This is the worst restaurant in Roseville!!! They are ALWAYS out of lentils! They have such a small menu so how do they run out of food at lunch time! Then because they are short staffed, the service is the worst! As a small business owner, I wish I could talk to the owner direct because they are losing money read more

First of all, dear Yelpers, please keep in mind this is a cafe, not a restaurant. So, if you have high expectations or want high quality Greek food, then you should go elsewhere. I've been wanting to check out Daphne's for a while and a friend wanted to meet there for lunch, so here we go. This is the type of place you go up to the cashier order your food, pay and they bring it out to you. Most everything on the menu is reasonably priced. I ordered the mix & match two plate. I had the crispy shrimp (.50 extra) and grilled chicken kabob for the main entrees. I chose the rice pilaf and small Greek salad for the sides. It also comes with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. With baklava and water it came out to a little over $11. The grilled chicken kabob was divine-nice and tender. The rest of the food was mediocre. The tzatziki sauce could have been better with more garlic. None of the food was overtly greasy-I ate most of it. The baklava was wonderful-flavorful and gooey, as it should be. They have outdoor and indoor seating, its on the small side, but it is a cafe. A few paintings-very simple for the most part. If you have more than 4 people in your party seating may be difficult as most of their tables are small. I'll come here again sometime, but it didn't have that WOW factor for me. read more

It's like the Chipotle of greek food... Average priced, order then sit down... and the food is edible but nothing to get excited about. Over the years I've had the gyro pit sandwich, hummus, falafel (which I think here is disgusting, it's obviously not made fresh), spanikopita, baklava, and the rice pilaf and salad. I normally get a the hummus plate that comes with side salad with cucumbers and olives, tasty rice pilaf (totally hit or miss it's either hard and been sitting around for hours, or just made and delicious and fluffy) and pita bread. Order a side of fire feta which is bright orange and spicy so that the food at least tastes like something. The staff is decent and they double check to-go orders which is nice. read more

Last night ordered the salmon plate. There was only one other couple in the restaurant, who came in after use. After 15 minutes I went looking for our food. The salmon was still on the grill. When the server brought it out I was inform that the fillet had to be on the grill for 8 minutes a side. The fillet was split in half when served, dry to the point of being in-edible. This is the second bad experience in a month. We used to come here a couple a times a month on Friday night. I can tell be the dwindling crowd on Friday that there is definitely something amiss at this location Roseville on Sierra College read more

I had to update my review as I received a very timely response from Daphne's management. They took immediate action to speak to their servers and chef. I am heartened to know that Daphne's management listens to customers and addresses issues. So an extra star for Daphne's just because of how wonderfully their management team handled this issue. I promise to one day give the restaurant another try. Just had the worst experience ever!!! We ordered a Cali Gyro and the Mediterranean salad with falafel. We waited for 30 minutes after we ordered for our food, but before we got our food the server/cashier delivered a falafel Mediterranean salad to the table to our right. I assumed the customer to my right had ordered the same thing. One minute later the server brought a different plate to the customer and took the falafel salad back to the kitchen. They have an open kitchen, she spoke with the chef and by the time she walked around to the front of the counter, there was the Mediterranean salad with new pita on it. She delivered the salad and Cali Gyro. I asked her if that was the same salad she had just delivered to the table next to me. The server said no, that she had the chef make a new one. I was starving and I wanted to believe her so I took a bite of the falafel. It was both overlooked and cold. My gut told me this was the SAME SALAD they had just served!!! I took the salad to cashier and the server came over and asked what was wrong. I told her I was sure this salad was not a new salad. She she replied that the cook was really busy. Unbelievable!!! The male cashier offered to have my salad remade but I was done by this point. I just asked for my money back. The service was terrible, very slow, they were focused on their to-go orders while the rest of us waited at tables for our food and then to re-serve food... I don't even have the words. read more

The food is good but the service is TERRIBLE. They always seem to be under staffed and don't bother to ask for anything "to go" because they take forever to make your meal. Today I asked for a Mediterranean salad to go and I watched two ladies come in 5 minutes after me, order their food and get served before my salad was made. I had to ask them what the hold up was and that I just ordered a salad. How hard can it be to make a salad? I was about to ask for my money back, but they quickly rushed to get it made. Another time I ordered tabbouli salad and they gave me a spoonful and charged me $3.99 for it! After today, I'm done with eating at that particular Daphne's. The one closer to Rocklin is ten times better, even though they have the same menu. read more

The staff at Daphne's is very friendly. The food is decent, but there is nothing special about it. I am a huge fan of Mediterranean food and wish there was a good falafel place around here, but there is not. The gyro isn't bad, although my dog likes it more than I do. The falafel is plain and not worth your time. The original hummus is good and creamy but nothing very special, although they do have varieties of hummus I have not tried. My mom is a huge fan of their salad, and she's a tough critic. It's not terribly expensive at about 7 dollars a person. They get three stars for their excellent service, good portion sizes and the fact that their food isn't disgusting. read more

The food is delicious. Love the fire feta pita and the lemon chicken soup. The service is absolutely atrocious however. I have come in on days when I'm the only one in there or one of only a few and still wait 25+ minutes for my order. Great food as long as you have plenty of time to wait... read more

Just ate my last meal here and I'm sad about that. I loved this place, I mean LOVED this place until now. Very disappointing to see that the menu changed and the prices are outrageous. Our typical dinner use to cost us about $40 now costs $52 and with no drinks since the soda machine was down. HEADS UP: Careful with the new menu, you only get 1 protein now with the plates and easy to miss that change. We ordered two like usual and was charged $3.69 for the second proteins. Staff couldn't explain that change or why the bill was so much higher. We had to figure it out by studying the new menu. Also several favorite items and deals are no longer available. Food was still good, rice changed and not as good, but over all not worth the prices. I'd much rather go to a sit down restaurant and spend that kind of money. read more

I fear a disturbing trend in the Mediterranean food industry. One day I was hungry. Isn't that how these usually start out? My friend suggested Daphnes in Granite Bay. I had never been but being a fan of Greek style food I decided what the hell. Sorry Café Morocco, I was on the other side of town. I quickly realized I was in the Panda Express of the Mediterranean. At least at Panda they usually hire within the ethnicity of the restaurant. At Daphnies they obviously hired the first jack ass who could write their first name legibly, but probably spelled it wrong. So, Bob, the 29 something stoner on the other side of the counter fumbled his way across this incredible invention called a cash register and was able to tell me that for $17.00 I was the new owner of two Gyro samiches, an order of fries and two regular sodas. I was hoping to get a shot whiskey but they don't serve alcohol. So I'm wondering how amazing this food is going to be for $17.00. After 15 minutes and watching several other people get their food ahead of us I decide to ask stoner Bob exactly what the hell happened to my lunch. Did you get the munchies and eat my samiches? He was so high he didn't get it. He started to fumble around and looked extremely confused. I asked the guy behind the counter and he told me they would be right up. My food finally arrived and it was, well, shitty at best. Fast food Gyros are not so good. I'm sure Cost Co. has microwavable Gyros that would rock the shit out of these. The hummus was horrible. The Soda was syrupy and the fries... HOW DO YOU SCREW UP FRENCH FRIES? That's what I get for not eating at Café Morocco. The food was horrible and the service was worse. The truly scary thing is these places are going in with Starbucks, Jamba Juice and T-Mobile to every new shopping center. Jesus kill me now. read more

Food is good, but has gotten pricey for what it is. Portions aren't that big. Service is slow. Employees hang around talking while you're waiting to order or waiting for food. Shouldn't take 20 minutes when you're the only patrons in the restaurant. Meh. read more

My family and I were here strictly for the baklava dessert. First off, the location is perfect. Service is so much better than I expected (after reading some of the negative reviews here). Jake, our cashier, was super friendly and genuinely sweet. Food was tasty and fresh. I had a platter with chicken and steak kabobs. What has really surprised me - the place is very quiet. recently went to this place and came to know that its a greek chain resturant. They are offering a dinner menu for the limited time for the $6 and for this price you get 3 options. One starter / entree/desseart. I took the chicken kabob / lemon chicken soup and pita. There pita is really good and didnt had that type @ any of the Greek places. The place is clean. The only drawback i see is that there are only 2 person to take order/cook/serve and clean. The veggie falafal are flat instead of round and its not that crispy. Taste of the food is ok , if you are able to get the $6 dinner deal its worth the $ :). read more

I keep coming back because I love Greek food and my kids like eating on the patio by the fountain, but this is getting very disappointing. Is it just me? I remember really enjoying this chain a few years ago in L.A. Everything seemed fresh and the portions were a good size. Now, everything seems to be smaller, cheaper, and more pre-produced. The staff at this location is very helpful, otherwise I would give two stars. read more

My hubby, son, and I ate at Daphne's last evening, and it was pure deliciousness! The rice was fluffy and seasoned perfectly, the chicken and gyros were tender and juicy, the salad was delightful to view and tasty, and the lemon orzo soup was amazing! 3 1/2 stars Pretty good. A tad pricey for a fast casual joint. The chicken kabob ($8.99) was juicy and flavorful, but I thought the chicken had a funky texture - a bit rubbery. The veggies on the kabob (green pepers and onions) were nice and charred and delicious. The vegetarian plate is always really good. I love the spanakopita. It tasted freshly made. Delicious. The falafel was kinda weird. it came in a flat circle. It tasted really processed and previously frozen. Really mushy. One of the worst ones I've had. The dolmas were my least favorite. The rice tasted like vinegar flavored mush, nice and slimy. Don't like these at all. Now for the sides (each plate gets 2 sides). The french fries were thin and pretty darn good. The hummus was run of the mill, good but not great. The pita bread I thought was very good. And the tzatziki sauce was fresh and worked well with everything. The roasted veggies was a nice surprise. There were zucchini, red bell peppers, carrots, green beans from what I remember - all fire roasted with a nice charred flavor. The greek salad was really good. It reminded me of the salad from Olive Garden. The dressing tasted close to Italian style. Lots of vinegar. The salad has olives, feta cheese, cucumbers and red onions. It was cold, fresh and crunchy. mmmmm The employees here are great. They are very patient, attentive and friendly. Some hits and misses here. I may come back and try a pita wrap. read more

We had the Mini Gyro Trio and a California Greek Salad. The gyros would have been better if the pita bread wasn't burnt because all we could taste was burnt bread. The salad was ok; decent size for the price but I didn't like the diced carrots because they were really crunchy and it was pretty loud. The soda machine was kind of interesting. You could add some flavoring like cherry, vanilla, and orange to your drink. Don't add too much because one splurt is enough to overpower the original flavor of the drink. read more

I come here often. I usually get the greek bowl every time with chicken skewers & it is as always AMAZING although it does take some time to make due to short staff & cooking time so the food is perfected. However this time, I ordered the same thing waited a while chicken was good BUT the sauce that goes on it was in a container & seemed like it was frozen & defrosted. There was NO flavor at all it seemed bland. My pita bread was missing the dip it comes with too. Pretty disappointing after coming here so many times. read more

The food is typically good, but I have never been here when I haven't had to wait an extended time for my order. Even when ordering ahead online (where I designated a pickup time an hour and a half in advance), I still had to wait over 20 minutes when I arrived to pick up my order. Three other customers came in after me expecting to pick up online orders and none of them were ready. They have some work to do on efficiency at this location. read more

The employees have smiles on their faces and they are aimed to please. Which in this day & age makes me want to stay right away. The gyro was tasty yet nothing like East Coast gyro that we're used to. the Falafel was not worth it - tasted like it was from a frozen package. The salads were delicious. All of the food is priced just right. Great place w kids to explore new cuisine. I would not go as far as a mediterrean McDonalds but it is fast Greek food. read more

I love greek good and Daphne's used to do Greek food back in the day. Now it's very mainstreamed and they even changed the name to california greek or something to that effect. It's changed a lot from when it opened over ten years ago, and I get that things change and evolve but I miss the old Daphne's. Needless to say, I still eat here when I need my greek fix and because I don't really know where else to go that's local. The food is pretty delicious- and I've tried everything! I recommend the spicy gyro pita, hummus, fire feta, dolmas, and the falafel! It's all so good. The avgolemono soup is so good too! I put feta on everything, try it on the fries it's so good! I mean I've seriously tried everything. The service is hit or miss. I usually take the food to go. There was two times in a row where I ordered fire feta on my pitas and got home to find there was none, which is really disappointing, especially after I stressed it had happened the time before. So now I check my meal before I leave and that means unwrapping the pitas and making sure it's all there. Also, often the tzatiki sauce is forgotten. That sauce can make or break a meal. I feel like more often then not something is wrong with what I ordered or things forgotten and that's why I give DGC a low score, they need to up their service game! read more
