We wanted to order a bottle instead of doing the tasting and he helped us select the perfect wine by letting us try a few options first. The grounds are really beautiful and has great views - it's unfortunate we came on such a gloomy/rainy day. DAOU is a must when it comes to tasting in Paso. It was one of the first wineries we ever visited in Paso and set the bar high. If we're making an analogy, think of DAOU as your Ritz Carlton. It's definitely got the luxurious feel with a luxury price tag too. Reserve a seat outside. We got seated in two Adirondacks facing out towards the gorgeous view. Because of their spot high on the hill, it's absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed our tasting where every wine was a winner. Everyone we encountered was super friendly and incredibly hospitable. Even though we felt like we had a secluded spot to sit at, service was on point and we were regularly checked in on. A visit to Daou is strictly for the view. It is a beautiful winery but wine wise, I really don't think it stands out all that much. Also, the servers we've had on our visits there are a bit too snooty for me. We had reservations for a tasting and definitely overestimated the time to get there. We were about 45 minutes early but still decided to check in. Thankfully, they weren't too busy so we got seated right away! The tasting was a pleasant experience! We snacked on hummus and labneh during our tasting and both were amazing! They make their hummus everyday so it was fresh. I would say that the interior of the bar/tasting area was very nice and fancy. I do have to comment that I've had better wine at other wineries in Paso Robles than DAOU. Parrish and San Juliette have much better wine... I think for me, the experience was really nice here but if you are going to a winery for the wine specifically... I would go elsewhere. It was my first time visiting DAOU Vineyards and Paso Robles altogether. With everything going on (covid), reservations are required in advance. I highly recommend booking early as there is only a limited amount each day and they tend to fill up quickly even though they have a large outdoor patio. The views are phenomenal. The vineyard is at the highest elevation in Paso Robles compared to other vineyards, in turn allows them to produce some delicious tasting wines. Compared to other tastings, it is on the more expensive side ($40). Even though it is a much steeper price compared to other tastings there, I still think it's a decent price compared to Napa. Once you arrive, there is someone checking you in to allow you to park at the parking lot above. If there is not enough space, as they usually allow one car per reservation, then you can park where the person checks you in, and a shuttle will take you to the top. Once at the top, someone will check you into your reservation. After checking in, you will receive a welcome pour of the rose and then be guided to your seat outside. They require that you wear your mask at all time except for when you're seated at your table. All the outside seating areas are spaced abut 6' or more to ensure everyone's safety during these tough times. For $40, you get to taste the rose (which I really liked even though I'm not a rose person), a few whites and a few reds. The tasting is waived if you purchase 3 bottles or more or if you're a member. Overall, it was pricey but I would definitely come back again. I did enjoy the tasting and the experience. read more

Yhasheau and Tre treated us to the greatest day at DAOU and we are forever grateful. My husband and I were treated like family and are already planning our next trip back. First off, yes the wine is delicious and views along with the property in itself are definitely beautiful. However, I was am still am upset with Daou! My husband and I had taken my daughter and her boyfriend to Daou winery this past Mother's Day weekend for wine tasting plus just to experience and to take in everything Daou.... I called 3 days ahead and made a reservation for the four of us...and was told it was a members weekend but they would take my reservation even though I wasn't a wine club member as long as we arrived by 11:00. Upon our arrival I was informed (Not prior) that we would NOT be seated in the outdoor patio areas.... My family and I were then informed we had to sit inside...but we could walk around the outside property??? Really, not a good start. What truly upset me was we all noticed immediately there were so many UNOCCUPIED seating areas, the outdoor area wasn't even half full upon walking around after our first pour. I truly was disappointed to say the least! Having had to pay 200.00 to sit inside was absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, mind you with a reservation??? I would have totally understood if the place as almost full, but come on!!!! Plus, only the upper lot was sort of full..Not to mention only 1 other car was in the lower parking lot.... with my car making 2 cars total. Having had been there before with a group of friends and had experienced such wonderful memories plus wonderful service, my expectation was to experience the exact same thing I had on my first visit. I have to say, I was, and absolutely still am extremely disappointed with Dauo winery. My second visit to Daou winery especially with my family, was I have to point out not a good experience. The views here are amazing. Definitely try to get a later tasting time so you can be here during sunset. The colors of the sky were insane and so beautiful. For $50/tasting, this is such a worth it experience. I recommend pairing the tasting with the charcuterie board ($50). It was so delicious and a generous serving for two people. This is the most beautiful view you will get in Paso Robles. The hospitality is incredible from the time you enter to the time you leave. Upon arrival we were welcomed to a beautiful glass of Rose as we walked to our table. The service is attentive and professional. Gabriel is simply the epitome of hospitality. He always knew when we were ready for our next wine. He made us feel as though we were his only guests. He was knowledgeable on all the wines and provided an experience above what we were expecting. The views are stunning! The wines are outstanding, and we took advantage to purchase some nice bottles we can't get anywhere else. Appointment only at a beautiful setting on the hill by the winery overlooking a lovely valley. Excellent wines (expensive tasting at $40) with a guide who drops by to tell you about everything. Lovely food possibilities you could opt for but we had a dinner reservation. Maybe next time. They automatically give you a water carafe and the most beautiful water glasses which was so nice. Also the little plants and the comfy chairs made it so nice. We bought enough wine to discount our tasting fee. I would go back again after Covid to do a light lunch and tasting in their beautiful venue with some really good wines. Their Provence style rose was really a nice start. Like all of Paso they are about big reds but these were just great. You do need an appointment but this is so worth the planning. The drive up there is gorgeous. Dear DAOU Vineyards, We were in the area on Sunday April 6th approx 3 PM. We wanted to purchase some wine. We were told at the gate that we wouldn't be allowed in the facility to make a purchase. What? How does a winery of your size that does mass production not have wine available for purchase? We asked if we could at least drive in to see the view and we were promptly turned around and asked to leave. Did you know that wineries are places of HOSPITALITY? We decided to go down the road to Adelaida Vineyards and Winery where we were welcomed and hosted by one of the tasting room managers. We purchased a few bottles of wine that we enjoyed in the tasting room and purchased a couple to take home. We had a lovely time there. If you are in the area please consider going to the smaller boutique wineries where they appreciate their guests, you will have a delightful and intimate experience. As for you DAOU I don't believe it's a good business model for your company to turn away customers as overall wine sales are way down. It might take a little longer for you to feel it since you have gone corporate but if you continue to treat visitors and guests like this it's coming...... read more

Oh Daou! It was love at first sight! You definitely took my breath away! The spectacular view transports you to a place of pure luxurious beauty! Every spot at this vineyard has a gorgeous view. But you should definitely sit outside and just take in beautiful Paso! The service was great and personal. They treated us so well here. Wine tasting fee does run at a rate of $40 a person for 5 wines. It is pricey if you don't have a membership. Reservations are recommended and a must for the weekend. We love the beautiful hilltop location, their wines and food. We were members pre-Pandemic but live too far away for shipping to make sense. Our tasting experience was 1) $50 each for 2 whites 3 reds 2) 3 bottle purchase required to waive one fee 3) sadly just way less hospitality & friendliness than in 2019 Over the last 5 years the wine remains awesome ( Unbound is the best versatile "approachable" red) (Soul of a Lion is the high end special occasion red and still a favorite of ours). Chemin de Fleurs is a lovely white for summer but wasn't in our tasting. The Soul of a Lion vertical tasting is $150 ... Patrimony Immersion tasting (a 100% Cab) $275 must be a life changer, if it's within your budget. Two bottles of their excellent and pricey wine should be sufficient to waive a tasting fee. My advice is buy a few nice bottles. The tasting experience is all about the view, and the Daou name, but not so much about hospitality. It's not inviting for the reservation to say one hour is allowed. They do not apologize for the small number of wines allowed to you in the basic $50 tasting. read more

DAOU is my very first wine tasting experience I've had. We didn't pay for the whole experience where they take you around the winery for a tour and down to the wine barrels, but we did pay to taste about 5-6 wines and relax out in their patio area. My fave wines tasted and bought were: (ALL REDS) 1740 Eye of the Falcon I also bought a wine called Clone 412 as a gift for my boss, which they say was super amazing. The grounds and the scenery are beautiful, but it was a bit busy, I feel like we were a bit forgotten and kinda pushed on the backburner at times. I definitely would like to come back to Paso Robles and give them another chance at giving us attentive service because their wines are pretty damn great. Ooooof a $45 tasting? Do you remember when tastings used to be free up in Napa? Before all the tour buses started rolling in. Spent a weekend in the area and this winery came highly rated. The views here are spectacular and if I lived closer, I'd definitely consider a wine membership. They were so friendly and very accommodating as 3 of us were tasting and 1 of us got pulled into a last minute work emergency for his CEO. He still did the tasting, just inside at a private table so he could have his laptop connected. The wines are delicious and now that I'm back home and 4 hours away, regretting that I didn't purchase more. Especially the Chemin de Fleurs which is so unexpected and delicious. I did find find one of their cabs at Costco but I doubt I'll encounter it again. If you see it, definitely pick up a few bottles. It's obviously not as good as what you'd get from the winery, but it's excellent for the price. Paso is also very military friendly so we appreciated the military discount at Daou for our 2 veterans. read more

NEVER visit or buy Daou wines again! I usually do no write negative reviews but I felt I need to write this as the parking attendant was the rudest person who gave us the worst experience we have ever had. My wife and I used to love drinking Daou wines, and that's why we wanted to visit their winery even we didn't have a tasting reservation, hoping to buy some wines and enjoy the views. We arrived there about 30min before they close on 11/26, and all the sudden I parked my car, the parking attendant told me very rudely to get out. I asked if we can buy some bottles of wine but he again just said "No. We are closed and you can come tomorrow." There are so many cars parked and obviously the cellar was open. Right after I started to move my car, he quickly moved back to his colleague's place and started chatting and laughing. I felt we were looked down and disrespected. We were very very very very much disappointed with this winery. That is absolutely not the way to treat people, let alone your guests or customers. The other wineries we visited in Paso treated us in a totally different manner and made us very happy. So, I believe this winery is run by a very strange philosophy and culture, which is 100% unacceptable for us. For your information, I'm Asian. read more

We live down the street from Daou so gave it a try based on (mostly out of towner's) rave reviews. Made an appointment and confirmed they are dog friendly. Upon arriving were instructed to drive quite a distance to the overflow parking. Thankfully they have a shuttle service back up the steep hill, though this was a fairly precarious adventure for my 12 year old Labrador Retriever wine tasting companion. The view from the top is beautiful, as is the tasting room. Napa pretentious? Heck yeah. Hey, if that's your thing. Cool. I'm just not that into it anymore. The wines were pretty good, albeit overpriced. I couldn't get over the food menu prices $$$. I do feel as though Daou is definitely catering to the LA/SF crowd. In all seriousness though... do these ladies all shop at the same store for their faux-Western hats? It's become kind of funny. Anyway, we came, we saw, we had a decent enough afternoon.
