I had been wanting to try out this place for awhile, ever since we drove by the restaurant a while back. I saw its name and it gave me a chuckle. Ever since the hubby and I came back from our trip to Southeast Asia, I had been craving for a bowl of bun bo hue. We arrived after 6 and there were about 3 tables of customers. The restaurant was very clean. The shades were pulled down by the front windows and so it was rather dark inside, the lights aren't that bright. The menus were nice, clean and modern, somewhat of a rarity in most Asian restaurants. The menu was fairly extensive, with not only Vietnamese items, but Chinese and Thai options as well. Prices are on par with most Asian restaurants in the Edmonton area.. although I would say more expensive than the restaurants in Chinatown. I ordered the lemongrass spicy noodle (bun bo hue) and husband ordered the 3 color vermicelli. My bowl arrived and at first I didn't think it was a lot, but then again the bowl was pretty huge. The broth was flavourful and delicious with a spicy kick. I would say the amount of meat you get is less than average compared to other places, but nonetheless I was full in the end. Husband said they were a bit skimpy on the meat in his dish. By the time we finished our meal, all the tables in the restaurants were full and there was even a small wait by the front door. For 2 entree dishes, our bill came to about $25, which is pretty expensive for Vietnamese food. Nonetheless, I think I would come back to try more items. Checked it out for lunch and was not disappointed. Although the place is certainly busy at lunch (go early to avoid a wait for a table) it is a very clean and presentable restaurant. Ambiance includes a cool aquarium that is actually two large screens with a Finding Nemo-ish scene playing. I like it. They serve Vietnamese food. I ordered a 1 color vermicelli bowl (menu has options up to 5 colors) and got the pork balls - they were huge and served on a kebab which was interesting. I think they may have actually been BBQ'd - either way, they tasted fantastic and so did my vermicelli. I'm looking forward to going back to check out more of their menu. read more

I was half expecting to go inside this place and be greeted by a girl in a cowboy outfit with a straw hanging out of her mouth and a spittoon in the corner . Instead it was a modern looking restaurant with some nice clever touches like the HE and SHE labeling on the washroom doors and the 2 big screen monitors on the wall playing a screensaver of virtual aquarium . Service was very good. Ordered a bowl of spicy satay beef pho which they say is their best seller and i can understand why after finishing it. Delicious complex broth with some spiciness and wonderful peanut flavour that was just right. No need to add any other condiments to this at all. I should have eaten at this place when I move in to my apartment last September! And as for my first time trying out Vietnamese food, I would say that this restaurant did a good job in giving their homeland a good rep when it comes to its flavors! The price for the food isn't also that pricey and the place was set out so neat. This restaurant definitely lives up to its name! We came here for supper one day and was delightfully surprised. They have ample selection and lots of their dishes come with vegetarian options! Their portion sizes are generous and everything we got tasted amazing! Prices are comparable and I know I'll definitely be coming back in the future. The service wS really fast as well! They had a very large (think like 20+) group in at the same time we were in and it in no way caused our service to be lacking. I'm pretty much ordering from here all the time. The place can be easily missed, as it is a small unassuming place in a strip mall just off the traffic circle on 118 Ave. The inside is small and cozy and was very busy on a Saturday night (always a good sign), but didn't take us long to get a table. Another good sign is that it is very clean. My friends have been talking about how this place had the best peanut beef sate pho and had to take me to it to try it. Now I won't lie, I have never had peanut sate broth before so I had this picture of a thick paste type broth, not very appetizing. Glad I gave it a try as it wasn't like that at all. Apparently this is their most popular dish ($12). I do admit, the broth was very spicy and I loved it. Maybe I've been spoil from my fave go to pho place, Co Do Hue, where you get ample meat in the pho, but I did find this lacking in that area. If they added more beef to it, this would easily be one of my fave pho's due to the broth. As for service, we were served by the owner and no complaints there. Service was excellent, friendly and was always coming by to check on us (also had a nice sense of humour). If there is a reason for me to come back to try it again, this would be the number 1 reason. I did not get to try any other items on the menu, but would be willing to go back to try some other things to give this place a fair chance. read more

Located in the strip mall on west side of the 118 Ave traffic circle, Dang Good's exterior doesn't exactly warrant a second look. However, we did make an effort based on the reviews. Modern interior design and quite spacious. Washrooms are also spacious, clean and designed similar in fashion. Good selection of food items. Glad to see they have a trimmed down menu so unlike some places where there's like 100 items to choose from. Dang Good have several dishes that incorporate mangos as a ingredient. Green onion cakes were crispy & delicious. Ordered the half & half satay (2 skewers chicken, 2 skewers beef) which arrived on a bed of shredded veggies & skewers sprinkled with green onions & crushed peanuts. No dipping sauces because server says says not need it. Beef satay had a mild flavor but the chicken was dry and tasteless. A satay sauce would have helped. Their BBQ short rib plate faired better: delicious short ribs ( similar to Korean short ribs) but the accompanying Kim chee was dang awful. The worse I've ever eaten. Jackfruit smoothie (taste like mango) was very good. Server forgot my Vietnamese coffee & by the time he came back for me to ask, there was barely enough time for it to drip properly before our meals were done. Summary in comparison: nice & clean 4, food 3, service 3, price $$. Not really a place I'd race back to anytime soon. read more

This place has a fun casual feel. It's great if you have a group of people including vegans and meat eaters. The mango salad was delicious, I had the pork vermicelli which was so good and my vegan brother had a lemon grass dish which he really enjoyed. I've been too so many Vietnam restaurant but still, favorite one is the one close to Kingsway airport. I saw the ratings of this one is pretty high so I decided to give it a try. First off I didn't like the fact that we were not served with tea. since the day was hot, we just sticked with water. The Bau Bu Hue I ordered was fine. Just like what you can get from any other Vietnam restaurants though. My boyfriend was dissappointed with the seafood soup. I didn't like it either. Can't really describe where went wrong with the flavour.... Not good at all unfortunately. In addition, I think the price is really not competitive. If you want to try really good Vietnam noodle soup. One is the Kingsway superstore one. the other one is on 98th street in China town, they only serve soup and cash only. read more

Really great viet food ! The owner is extremely friendly and has an excellent memory! Able to remember many customers names which I believe adds a personal touch to the dining experience ! Went there today. Service was good, food tasted good. Only thing was that the meat portion was about half of what I expected. I ordered the 3 colour, verm bowl and got 1 tbsp of chicken, 1 tbsp of beef and 2 shrimp. You can only eat so much sprouts and lettuce. I left hungry. read more

I was here back on Friday, it was packed! The decor was very stylish and definitely gave a Vietnamese vibe, especially the coconut tree and music. The food was a great treat and eye candy. My sister and I ordered a pad Thai and coconut seafood soup, I had the pad Thai. There was chicken and shrimp with a piece of lemon on the side to add a kick of flavor, I however enjoyed it without and the sweetness was Ohh... I just really enjoyed it. My sister's soup was something different for us, but it is worth a try! It's not too sweet or bland, just right. Did I mention the dish ware? I love them! But I can only imagine that they stay in good shape over time. Overall I will be going back because it-is Dang Good. read more

Had a crazy experience today! I've actually honestly never experienced a worse customer experience than this in my life without exaggeration. I went there this afternoon and so this lady server comes up to take my order. I could see that she was struggling with her English so I made sure I pointed to her what we wanted. Sure enough the food comes and it's not what I ordered. Basically I requested her to change it to what I initially ordered which was a vegan beef sate soup. I was totally caught off guard when the supposedly assistant manager and the server ganged up on me and told me that I didn't order correctly and i would need to pay for another dish if I want it changed I guess they could quickly tell that I was a student with my school bag and knew that I wouldn't take that option, which also somehow makes me an easy push over at the same time ... Later on when I went up to pay and asked to speak to the manager, the lady told me that he is her younger brother and he listens to her and so basically there was nothing I could do. i did express to her my disappointment in the way she treated me, well sure enough I was again speaking to a wall cos she bluntly brushed me off. read more

Definitely a go to staple place for my husband and I. We can always count on the quality and flavour of the food we get. To be honest, I do get the same thing every time (Pho - beef fillet, and mango salad rolls) but it's something I can count on when we're in a pinch. The pho was very tasty, great spiciness and generous portions of beef and noodles. The coconut seafood soup was very good also, my wife loved it. This lovely little Vietnamese spot is luckily in our hood. Everything is usually fresh and well made. They spiced up the wontons a while back, and I preferred the old recipe, but that's just a matter of preference and not quality. They could change up the menu a bit as its been the same for quite a while now. Overall it's all well made and either eating in or carrying out, it's always good. The spring rolls and pork salad rolls are very tasty as is the Pho. The only thing I've ordered off the entree menu I wasn't impressed with was the coconut curry chicken-I've had better. Omg the food is good!! Try the beef ribs!!! To die for! I started going to this place since day one since they opened up close to where I work. It's great for lunch and dinner. I love their pho soup as well. And ginger beef. Ok it's all good!! It's very clean and well decorating and designed. The owner is such a nice guy and very down to earth and his sister is such a hard worker. I could seriously eat here every day if it wasn't a little too expensive for my lunch budget.
