My favourite place to eat pho. The broth is complex in flavour and is very delicious! I also enjoy the green onion cake and salad shrimp rolls. The restaurant is nicely decorated. There are options for booths or tables. The ambience is great for enjoying a meal. The condiment/sauces you need are right at the table, as well as chopsticks, soup spoons and napkins. The table service is usually prompt in getting our orders and serving our meals. There are times when they are very busy. My main complaint is that I wished they had more than one person dealing with the cash/card machine. Sometimes it takes longer to line up and pay for our meal than to actually eat our meal! The lineups can get a bit ridiculous. If they would improve their efficiency in processing payment of meals, this place would be earn my five star rating! Easy to find via Google Maps. Lots of parking right in front of the restaurant. 20% full Thursday at 12PM. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit. Booths are really comfortable and the temperature of the place was great. Waiter was efficient but not too friendly. I tried #49 the 5 color vermicelli bowl. Beef skewer was definitely the chewiest of the 3 but nice flavor. Chicken and pork were so tender. 2 shrimp skewer was a nice protein addition. Deep fried spring roll outside was crisp and perfect but I found the center ?pork was a bit mushy. Vegetables (carrot, cucumber, bean sprouts) was great mix. Sauce was also nice and light. Vermicelli was perfectly cooked and already ?cut-up so no really long noodles to awkwardly eat. Overall, very happy with this. Only ate 60% of this (mostly due to time restraint) so I have lunch tomorrow too! Friend got the green onion cakes and 1 pork skewer. She, like I, agree that the onion cakes were not the best green onion cakes we have ever had but they were big, fluffy, and tasty. Quite pricey for an appetizer. I'm 79 and never pick up but husband was sick so I went. Ended up I took wrong purse and did not have wallet. The lady at pick up was amazing! She said I could try my bank account-I was so upset I couldn't remember pass word. On and on tried everything. All the while she was so kind. I eventually had to go back home and get my wallet. Slow rude service. Subpar and the worst of any Asian establishment in edmonton. Pho hoan pasteur is a pretty well established Pho house in North edmonton. Within three years they have opened up several locations in Edmonton and calgary. The best location by far is the original Kingsway location. This one is more closer to home. The food here is ok. A nice broth. But I find the portions smaller here and they are extremely cheap with the meat portions. My pho dac biet had two measly slices of tripe and barely a bite of tendon. These two items are the star of any pho dac biet and they are barely even noticeable in the bowl. My green onion cake was bland and flavourless. I have found the food quality has gone downhill quite significantly in the last few years. The busyness is due to the fact that there's no other soup house in North Edmonton that makes a decent bowl for at least 10 minutes drive. Service is quite awful. The one thing this place is consistent with over the last few years is crappy service. Slow, haphazard service. They walked by my table 5 times before picking up my open teapot to be refilled. They serve your drinks after the main soup is served. They serve their appetizers with the soups instead of giving it as an appetizer. It's basically the worst service in Edmonton I have encountered on a consistent basis. It's also more expensive here than most Vietnamese restaurants. In comparison I can order the same thing for $5 less at any other place. Every time I come here. I remember exactly why I don't frequent this place anymore. And every visit makes me regret coming at all. Now that the soup has gone downhill. There is no reason to come back again. read more

When we're almost done with our meal, that's the only time we were told that there's no spring rolls available. While we were paying at the counter, we saw that spring rolls are being served. One of my fave pho restaurants in the city. The quality of the service and the time it takes to get served can vary, but I've had more good experiences than bad. I wouldn't consider this "cheap" pho, and I feel that the larger serving size is not exactly more noodles, but just more broth. If the pho wasn't so good, I would have given them 3 stars for the inconsistent service and the pricing, but the broth is just THAT good. Free wifi available. This place is pretty big. From the outside it appears small. We were seated right away and brought tea. Our server was extremely kind and pleasant. He really made the experience great. So I am slowly discovering north side restaurants, which I never had a reason to do so previously. I have been to Pho Hoan Pasteur's original location several times so we decided to check out their new north side spot on a Sunday evening. Random - we called to find out what time they close, lady told us 8:45pm over the phone (random time to close up) and when we get there, we see the sign that says it closes at 10pm. Very odd...oh well, happy it's open late! I also thought the front of the menu was pretty hilarious, who puts we "review periodically for service quality". Anyways, we were absolutely starving so both of us ordered right away: - #7 pho small ($8.25) - steak and tripe - #17A pho large ($10.50) - sweet and sour seafood. This is the first time I've ever ordered sweet and sour soup, but the broth was delicious. An actual decent spiceness level to the broth and just made you want to eat more. Couple shrimp, imitation crab and some other meat I'm not sure what they are called. This might be my new go to pho order. Great spot to grab pho, I've always been happy with Pho Hoan Pasteur. They are definitely one of the better pho places in the city so it's a bonus that they have this spot in another part of the city. read more

This Edmonton chain brings me such fond memories of my NAIT lab group meeting up for our clinic lab pre-game if you will. This was the first place I've ever tried pho and Vietnamese iced coffee. The north side location is my parents' go to when they say let's take friends out to lunch and 7/10 times, I'll drop whatever plans I have to come along. I look forward to my trips to Edmonton so that I can come here and indulge in green onion cakes. The service has always been good and the portion sizes have always been satisfying. It's also usually busy enough to indicate it's poppin' but not busy enough that you have to wait forever. The food quality tasted similar to their kingsway location and the amount of meat they put into their bowls of pho is consistent. The parking in this location is much more difficult to get in and out of because there are fewer spots and more businesses in this park. I always look forward to coming here for the tasty broth. My go to is the sliced beef and beef balls pho and an order of spring rolls. The soup always has the right ratio of noodles to broth and the bean sprouts are always fresh and crunchy. The spring rolls and crispy and delicious with a side of salty dipping sauce. The cold lemon tea is also very refreshing with candied lemon peels to add a nice bittersweet finish to it. The service is average and the food comes out piping hot and very quickly. Just a couple months ago, Ph Hoan Pasteur opened it's second location in the north side of town, much to the joy of my family. Although we make our own ph at home, once in awhile it's always nice to go out and get a bowl of the saltier and fattier broth and the more adequately sliced beef of restaurant ph. Even better when it's within a 5 minute drive from our house! The original location on Kingsway Avenue is actually the family's favorite, and Edmontonians seem to agree, ranking it as #4 on Urbanspoon's list of Vietnamese restaurants. Not only so, it would be #1 if you only count restaurants specializing in ph (should have it in it's name is my policy). I wasn't able to visit the store until Christmas Eve, when my family decided to have an impromptu lunch together. Not like that's hard, there's only three of us, but somehow it's rare that we all get the same time or day off with nothing else planned. Family first right? My mom was itching to order the green onion cake in addition to our meal, a rarity since she usually says they're overpriced and we can make it at home from the frozen ones you buy at the supermarket. Something about this dish at this location though, she loved. Being my parents' third or fourth time here, they were no stranger to the green onion cake. That day, I presume, was less busy than usual, see that it was Christmas Eve and families were mostly likely doing last minute preparations for dinner. The kitchen was by no means relaxed though, as throughout our meal, large stock pots of broth, followed by more stock pots were being transported from the kitchen to vehicles in the front. Large aluminum trays of cuts of beef were prepared, and other dishes followed suit. Definitely in the midst of a catered event with the owner kindly nodding to us as we were seated. Business doesn't stop for holidays! And rightly so, because with an expensive rent of over $15,000 a month, you better be selling lots of ph! As per usual, I ordered ph tai nam, a combination of rare steak and beef brisket. The broth was nice and hot, and there was an overflow of beef on the top. A good portion compared to a lot of other ph restaurants. Rumors have been flying around that this location wasn't as good as the original. Since opening, my parents have bought bowls to bring home (you cook the noodles at home, and re-heat the broth) and true, it didn't seem quite the same as Kingsway's quality, but from what I could tell from this visit, it was just as good. Plus, this time I got to try the green onion cake, which in some way, is more packed with onion flavor than normal. I doubt they make it in-house, so I need to find out where to buy this frozen variety! Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're a north side resident. With a T&T and a Lucky Market close-by, I have almost eliminated the need to go into Chinatown! read more

Serviceable location but noticeably less impressive than the Kingsway original. Although they offer the same menu, everything I've tasted here is just a little different. The beef sate, for example, has thinner meat and more onion. It changes the entire taste of the broth and the dining experience is a like less enjoyable because of it. If you live close and are craving what they have to offer, it is a worth a visit. However, I'll drive a little farther to Kingsway if I have the time. read more
