Lemongrass chicken and pineapples. Do not order.
    Ken W.

What a horrible experience. I haven't written a review for a while but for this I must. I was there a few weeks ago with my family. Normally we order pho dishes and they're not bad, but this time we've decided to try out their fried dishes, and this has to be one of the most disappointing experiences I've had in a while. We ordered 3 dishes: beef and vegetables, lemongrass chicken, and their special seafood on hot plate. All three dishes came out looking exactly the same. As a waiter or waitress, you have the responsibility to double check with your customer to see if this is what they want based on your knowledge of the dishes. When you order a beef or chicken dish at an Asian restaurant, typically you'd expect to get beef slices or chicken breast or chicken thigh slices. Not this place! They used the same beef and chicken that you'd get in your pho. They weren't even separated. They came out in chunks. Like who does that?? The sauce was disgusting. It was thickened using an incredible amount of corn starch, which made it look like thick glue. And this so called seafood dish for $27 had barely any seafood in it. When you're paying $27 for a dish, there's a certain level of expectation, and they dared to serve a hot plate of vegetables with a few scattered seafood hidden underneath. Completely lack professionalism. I'm sure anyone's home cooked meal is better that what I had that night. Never going back.

Spacious restaurant. The service was good and the food came out quick. Got the grilled pork salad rolls. The size of the noodle bowls were good. We left feeling full!

    Cute setup on each table.

4 Big Thumbs up! The service is attentive. I don't think i've ever been eating a bowl of pho and been asked how my meal is... it was kind of a nice change. Prices are good, with most items ranging between 11 - 15 dollars. I started with a small order of spring rolls. They were good, but a little fishy. The soup, although a small, was quite large. I have definitely had broth elsewhere that was more flavourful, but this is a great option on the northside. They don't skimp on the meat, noodles, or any other fillings.

For starters, there are better options in Edmonton. We stopped by for lunch because of the Yelp reviews. However, the service was almost non existent. We were seated right away and menus were provided. Tea was dropped off but the tea pot was never refilled. Our server mistaken an order and we corrected her so one person was left waiting for his food while everyone else was eating. Food was okay. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with grilled beef and spring roll. The spring roll was made with the wheat wrapper. I always prefer the rice wrapper instead. The beef was grilled alright. There was a good amount of veggies. I tasted the pho broth and it had a strong star anise flavour. The broth was just okay. There was a good amount of meat and noodles. We never saw our server once food was dropped off until we got up to pay the bill. The restaurant only had a few tables of customers dining during lunch. They accept credit card payment which is always a plus. There is ample parking available on the plaza.

    The menu is gorgeous!

I came to Halong Bay Noodle House today with a coworker to celebrate her birthday. First off, they open at 10am on weekedays?!? Yes, please! Sooo, great to be in the door and served by 11am for an early workday lunch! Next, the layout is just GORGEOUS! From the huge wall photograph of what I presume to be Halong Bay to the beautiful entry way with bench and waterfall. Floor to ceiling windows and roll down shades that block just enough of the direct sun light but still let in natural light! The ladies' washroom was spacious, bright, and had a change table (I hope the men's does, too!). The staff greeted us with a warm smile and were attentive throughout our visit. Tea is automatically brough to your table - 2 thumbs up! We started off with a large order of grilled pork salad rolls - $7 for 4. They were okay but nothing to write home about. Basic rice paper, noodles, lettuce, and meat. These could easily be stepped up a notch with some basil and sliced carrots. The peanut dipping sauce was lovely and they gave us two bowls so we could each have one - very thoughtful! Next up, I had the Vermicelli bowl with all the options for $13! I quite liked the grilled pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, and spring roll. Next time, I'd pass on the shredded pork and meatball but it was great to try it all! Another awesome thing is that they seasoned their fish sauce! This is a pet peeve of mine when a Vietnamese restaurant gives me a bowl of plain fish sauce with no seasoning or love as I call it. The sauce here was quite good and pretty close to my favourite Vietnamese Spot (Golden Bird in Chinatown... But I digress...) I really look forward to coming back here again in the future and trying out some other items on their menu! See you soon, Halong Bay!

Well I have been here a number of times. Food is not as good as it was in the past. The service needs to improve greatly. Hopefully they pick it up. ...

I feel like this is a developing area, so there's lots of parking here. It wasn't busy on a weekday, so we were seated instantly upon entering. Decor is modern & a little dim inside, but there is a Vietnamese wall mural at the back wall which adds to the ambience. Space is moderately sized, so I'd say it's good for groups. There is a change table in the washroom & a high chair as well. Quite a few people came in for takeout which makes this restaurant seem promising. There's a lot on the menu, it makes it hard to choose. It was my first time there, so I thought I made a newbie mistake by ordering a Pad Thai in a Vietnamese restaurant, but it was a pleasant surprise. The flavour was deliciously authentic to Thai cuisine, but a bit more sour, (like a Thai-Vietnamese fusion) and thankfully not very spicy. Cost was $17 and I think that was a decent price but didn't have too much leftover. I was also feeling adventurous, so I got the lychee bubble milk. It tasted really good, but it was $6, and I feel like I can get better volume at lower cost at other bubble tea shops. Service was friendly and fairly quick. I also tried a mixed fried rice & lemongrass stir fry beef and they were equally delicious with different flavours and they were generous with the meat in each dish. I would definitely comeback next time I want to eat in this area.

They do not have a menu on line so went to get a pick up menu and they don't have that either. So they don't have my business.

This is one of my favourite vietnamese places for soup and appetizers. The rice and vermicelli dishes are mediocre in comparison so make sure to order what they specialize in. If I come with a big group I like to order as many appetizers as possible as it's similar to vietnamese street foods like crepes, tapioca dumplings and deep fried goodies. All of it is authentic and delicious. My must orders here are the duck salad and soup combo. It's what I come here for as no other place in edmonton has it on the menu that I know of. And it's pretty darn delicious. If I don't get that. The bun bo hue is loaded with so many meats that I never can finish it! I can't wait to go back to this locally owned business run by a family. Although service is not the greatest. They do provide whatever you need if you ask for it. They definitely won't bother you when you visit here. As most people just eat quick and leave. Little has changed on the interior, except for the addition of a large fish tank. The menu is very typical of Vietnamese noodle houses, featuring a good selection of pho noodle soup, vermicelli noodle bowls, and rice dishes. I opted for a bowl of pho with medium sliced beef and brisket. My soup was full of meat which was reasonably tender and lean, and came in a broth that was well-seasoned. Colleen, my co-Volunteer Coordinator, ordered a bowl of Thai spicy pho, and she ordered it without any meat. She was happy with the flavour of her soup and its abundance of noodles. I started with a green onion cake, finding the two large rings of fried dough and green onions to be large and not too greasy, as well as a bit cheaper than I've had elsewhere. I also decided to do something I rarely do when I order pho - even though I find the complimentary green tea and broth from the soup to be more than enough liquid intake for one meal, I decided to try one of the iced drinks. Being a dreary winter day I felt some extra vitamin C was in order, and opted for a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was incredibly fresh and full of pulp - I literally felt like I was drinking an orange in liquid form. Prices are in line, if not lower, than other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Our entire meal, which also included a can of pop for Colleen, cost less than $25 before the tip. Service was fast and friendly and neither of us had any complaints about the food. Winter is the perfect time for a steaming bowl of pho, so consider heading to Viet Huong.

Service is fast, but minimal. Nobody came to check on us at all during the duration of our meal. I had the beef satay soup, which, unfortunately, is only available in the regular size. I normally don't find the regular size filling enough to last me until the next meal. The soup was good though; not overly spicy with a nice peanut flavor to it. Not a fan of how lean the beef was though; I prefer some fattiness to my meat. My brother and mom both ordered a large bowl of pho and they felt the broth was watered down and bland. My mom felt the large size just meant more broth and did not feel full at the end of her meal. My mom also did not like how lean/tough the beef in her pho was either. For 2 large bowls of pho, a regular size bowl of satay, a small bowl of noodle only and a side order of spring rolls came out to just over $56. The Groupon is a good deal, but I don't know if I'd make this place one of my go-tos for Vietnamese food as there is definitely better out there. Staff won't allow happy hour specials at discounted price despite being in happy hour time frame. Hoang long is a modern clean space with bamboo accents and a newly renovated area. There is a large patio out front for summer. But it being closed off made the entrance kinda blending in. I was looking for the entrance and walked right by it. Trying to figure out how you get in is a slight challenge. As the door blends in so well and it appears it's just the patio. But that's the entrance. I visited quite early during happy hour at around 6pm. The place was entirely empty except for staff which was slightly disheartening. But I'm sure this place is bustling during the lunch hours. Wait staff were slow to greet me so I sat myself and grabbed my own menus. The menu Is vast. A huge range of thai and vietnamese foods. From soups, sandwiches, grilled meats and stews. Looking through the menu was overwhelming but at least there is something for everyone. We decided on trying the chicken satays with peanut sauce. These were a famous item popular during the taste of edmonton. They did not disappoint. They charred them so nicely I could hear the fire crackling in the dead of winter. But the best part was the peanut sauce. They don't provide this during the taste of edmonton. But it brings the dish to new heights. I would say...stick to the grilled meats here. They don't disappoint. I throughly enjoyed my bun bo hue. It was authentic and tasty. It made my list for top 5 in edmonton for sure. Portion was perfect and the ratio of meats and noodles were just right. Another great dish. My only vice was that it was happy hour...advertised from 3-7pm. But the staff would not allow discounted prices despite it only being 6pm. They had decent options like wine, beer or a customized cocktail for $4. The server states happy hour is over despite it clearly stating it is until 7pm on the menu. I point to the board and he says it's full price. Whatever. I don't like misrepresentation on menus. And discrepancys are misleading. For this I minused a star. Service was haphazard. I seated myself. Got my own condiments and even got my own drinks. I had to go to the counter to order my food and pay at the register. All the server did was put the food on my table and clean it up afterwards. The whole process downgraded the whole modern vibe to more of a cafeteria style establishment. I felt jipped tipping bc i basically served myself. So minus another star. Overall. The food was great. Slightly overpriced. But the atmosphere reflects the price in the heart of downtown. Service was okay but the whole happy hour misrepresentation was a huge turnoff. I won't ever be buying drinks here in the future. Bc hey...they don't follow the advertised prices on the menu. It's decent. I would revisit if I am in the area. But it definetly won't be a go to place that I would drive to if I was hungry.

Inside there was just one table occupied but there is a decent amount of seating for the lunch time crowd. It seemed cleaned. The combos they offer are a rice or noodle (pad thai that didn't look very appetizing) and then up to 3 or 4 items. The food was under heat lamps so I could see what the options were. I decided to get the fried rice and a few items. I choose a chicken first and looked at the other items before deciding on the vegetables with cashews. The woman serving me had the rectangle take out container about 2/3 full and she kept suggesting food such as the green beans and then the sweet and sour pork. Both didn't look very appetizing. I think she was hoping I would pay for as much food to get rid of since the lunch time crowd had passed but she wasn't generous with the quantity. I decided on the beef skewer and then was done. At half price I paid $7.35. I brought the food home and heated it up. I liked the beef skewer but the rest of the food wasn't very good. The food tasted greasy and I had to use my fingers to eat the chicken was it had lots of bones. I'm not sure if it's from this food, but I didn't feel well after. Definitely would not pay $14 for the food I had as lots of other great restaurants around. It would probably be better to go during the lunch hour when the food is hot and fresh but I'll pass next time I'm in the area.
