    Complimentary fried oreos
    Holly M.

We were in Anchorage for the day and wanted some sushi so we stopped here. We ordered some noodles, sushi and chicken nuggets. They gave everyone at the table miso and salad and free fried Oreos for dessert. The Kiss of Fire roll was very good, the spicy Tuna was just ok. I don't prefer the slightly burned flavor of the way they prepare it. The Philadelphia roll was good, and the noodles were very good. The flavor of the miso was perfect! The kids got chicken nuggets and fries which were pretty standard(frozen grocery store style). Overall I'm happy with this stop and would definitely return for more!

Outside. The inside is much nicer.

I was really excited to try this place but just walked out because of a rude, slow and dismissive waitress. The inside looks nice, but I'm not going to pay for rude service. Go elsewhere!

We love sushi and were disappointed, we just did not have the best meal. Stopped in after a long hike in the morning ready to crush some fish, it just did not live up to the name or reviews. It was very saucy and not much girth. Recommend Kumagoro

Some of the best sushi ever, and a surprise dessert of green tea ice cream with a drizzle of chocolate and a tempura oreo! Sinfully amazing on all counts. The sushi chef has been there a very long time and you are treated like an old friend. Yes, you must walk through the hotel lobby which is a bit seedy, but behind the door and the flashing open sign is a comfortable oasis with an indoor koi pond and amazing food. Do not be deterred by the exterior. The sashimi was perfect. Rich, cold, and exceedingly fresh. The rolls simply amazing. No trip to Anchorage can now be complete without dinner at Dami!! Price was very reasonable as well.

In my opinion Dami is the best kept secret in Anchorage. Due to its unfortunate location in the Econo Inn downtown, most people haven't given it a chance but I'm here to say you're missing out! The food is always fresh and service is attentive and friendly. I'm a huge fan of spicy tuna but find a lot of places put too much sriracha or vinegar in it and the flavor of the tuna gets lost. Dami makes theirs just right without losing spice. The best deal is their bento box. There are two options, one comes with your choice of roll (under $14 on their list of rolls). I love their kalbi bento without the roll. It comes with generous portions for $25. Dami will always be my first choice for sushi!

Service was great. The sushi and sashimi was generous, fresh, high quality portions. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is down to earth. I particularly like the fish pond on the middle of the dining room. I highly recommend it to those who really know good sushi. Dine in if you can and enjoy the cute fish swimming in the pond.

For starters my favorite sushi to order is the Philadelphia roll and I always pair it with the Mongolian beef or sesame chicken combo which of course tastes really good. Inside the establishment there is a fairly big pond with koi fish swimming around and it really gives the place a relaxing touch. When dining in the service is prompt and the server even helped with explaining what's inside certain toppings and sushi rolls which is very helpful to people who may have allergies. When ordering for takeout/pick up my food is always ready in a timely manner. The only "bad" thing I can say (which isn't the restaurants fault) is there are homeless people lounging around outside which makes it less appealing to want to come inside to eat and feel your vehicle is safe outside. It's also kind of hard to get into the parking lot considering the business is right on the corner of a busy street area downtown. If the restaurant ever considered moving its location I believe they will get even more business. But again the food, service and decor will always have me come back for more!!

Looking for a late night meal after snowboarding all day and wanting to be away from the main part of downtown, this place did it. Great choice I usually look over the bad and not-so bad reviews to see what was the worst day some of someone's pathetic life that compelled them to trash the hard work of building-up a respectable business. I found some pretty bold claims, none phased me. So I faced the -5℉ temps and went for a walk from my hotel to dine with my son. At 9pm on a weekend night, the place was empty. This usually is a really bad sign. Still willing to run the risk, we moved up to the host, equally as warm and fuzzy as the weather outside. As we went to our table walking by the sushi bar, it looked as if they had checked out. Station cleaned, fish wrapped in plastic, no chefs at the ready. Now I'm worried. Looking over the leignthly menu we decided 3 rolls to share and Agedashi tofu. Almost immediately we were served Miso and a small salad. Still no pleasantries from the host/server but by now it doesn't matter. The chef appeared, sushi was made to order and delivered shortly after. Very fresh, very good and not breaking the bank. I guess the Miso, salad and dessert was included. We couldn't find any mention of a meal set. Funniest part of the meal was, after we finished the main course our expressionless and generally unimpressed server cracked and said, "are you ready for your Oreos". Not knowing what to expect we both answered "ummmm, ok?" Minutes later two, hot out of the oil, tempura deep fried Oreos under a Denali sized frop of whipping cream drizzled with chocolate running out like an avalanche in May was set down between us. These are not at all like the county fair versions, insanely better. GET Them! The restaurant was clean, nice and efficient. Upon leaving we ordered some rolls to-go for others who did not want to bare the elements, it was prepped quickly and with grace. Very unassuming for a place seemingly to be attached to an Econo Lodge Motel. Don't be scared off, this place is great

Bento Special. Looks better than it tastes.

Unfortunately, we went against our better judgement here. Because of decent reviews online, we thought this place might be ok to get a cheap bite to eat. Dami was only a block from where we were staying, and seemed like a convenient option. The parking lot is tight, and for some reason full of people walking around. On our visit, there was also an old SUV with considerable body damage blocking much of the entry into the lot. That should have been our first queue. Inside was nearly empty, save two or three more patrons. There was an odd odor, almost like burning or cigarettes. The hostess/server seated us and gave us menus. However, they were not the ones online, and were priced at about double than what we were expecting. When we tried ordering, my wife requested no tofu in her veggie roll. The server was very sharp in responding there was no tofu. But when my wife pointed to the menu, showing tofu was indeed listed as an ingredient, the server didn't even become self aware. I wish I could say there was some food I enjoyed. The edamame was slimy, the miso soup was way too salty, the salad dressing tasted like mayonnaise, and my salmon was burnt (in a bad way). As for the Godzilla roll, the yellowtail was mushy and the eel was paper thin, but was deceptively "stuffed" with immitation crab under it. Finally, it's not the most important thing, but we weren't given a customer copy of our receipt after paying. I wouldn't recommend Dami. If you want sushi in Anchorage, try Yama Sushi; we've had far more success there.

Kamikaze and Dami Special Roll was too good! Forgot to take the photo before I started munching down.

My favorite sushi restaurant that I visited on my trip to Alaska. All the sushi was extremely fresh, they had a great drink selection, and I love the variety of sushi they offered. Recommend getting the Kamikaze, the Chef's Nigiri special, and the Kalbi to share with someone.

Pan Fried Shrimp Noodles. Delicious food.

I came to Anchorage for a business trip and found this Sushi place 1 Block away. The restaurant is a family owned and the food is not only delicious but fresh with good quality and quantity. The California Roll was delicious as well my Pan Fried Shrimp Noodles, So saucy and nice spicy flavorful. The staff was generous and got me free Desserts. Thanks for the Wonderful service and I would come back again in my next visit to Anchorage.

I really liked the way they had the inside decor, it was really set up nicely. I was looking at the beverage menu saw, Sapporo, okay great beer for a Sushi experience. I guess after looking over the Sushi offerings, it was hard to find a clean roll. Clean roll, to me means, no imitation crab in their roll. The one clean roll was the Spider Roll which we got 2 of. Of the 5 rolls we got the Spider was the favorite to me, I got the Hot Lava Roll not my favorite, but my wife ordered the Crazy Devil Roll it was good, and another clean roll was what my daughter got the 911 Roll. We all shared amongst the 3 of us. Something else missing was, miso soup or a ginger salad staples at Japanese Sushi places. Daughter's husband got Teriyaki Chicken, not a sushi guy Lol! I did get him to eat 1/2 a Spider Roll piece. Overall a 3.5 for Sushi, but ambiance 4.5. What I'd like more is clean sushi offerings, Naruto style, and a must have Unagi (Eel), Sweet Shrimp w/deep fried heads, Toro (Yellow Fin Tuna), and maybe some Alaskan Crab! Imitation crab is for newbie/beginners. Also too many offerings of cooked Tempura Shrimp added to many raw rolls. Elevate your Sushi Game!

The space has a modern Japanese minimalist aesthetic--clean lines, warm lighting, and a refined calm that feels both welcoming and quietly upscale. It's thoughtfully designed without being cold, striking a balance between contemporary elegance and comfort. Shabu-shabu here is on the pricier side, but the portioning justifies it. The small shabu-shabu easily feeds three to four people, especially when shared properly, and nothing about it felt skimpy or rushed. Three visits in, it continues to deliver!

We used to come here when this place was Peter's Sushi Spot, the inside has not changed hugely…read moresince then, except maybe for the hot plates on the tables, should you wish to have shabu shabu. The hot plates are spotlessly clean, I did notice, and there were instructions on the wall on how to cook shabu shabu. We used to come for the Tempura Udon which was spectacular. We were seated very quickly, and water was brought out. I decided to go with my benchmark dish, which always gives me some idea of whether I will return or not, and ordered chicken fried rice, husband got the tempura udon, so he could compare with the previous Udon we used to get here. I noticed that their soft drinks are only $2 which is an excellent price in my opinion. I got a Canada Dry as I love ginger ale. His Udon came out quite quickly, and we could instantly tell that the broth did not have the same depth of flavour, as when we used to come here, (it was quite smoky and very umami) and this one has a distinctly seaweed tang. Thats not to say that it's bad, it's just different. The noodles are also not quite so dense, chewy or toothsome. Additionally the tempura was somewhat of a letdown. The shrimps were very slimline compared to the display on the tv. There was an onion ring, that was also quite thin. Just not a good representation of tempura. Also, comparing with the Udon that used to be here, you also got a cup of miso soup, and a small salad with a carrot orange dressing. Those are gone. As for my chicken fried rice, well the presentation was excellent, it came on a beautiful plate, and looked very appetizing. The first couple of bites were really nice, plenty of carrots, broccoli, chicken, however I soon started encountering tender crisp onions. Which I cannot eat. They give me violent stomach pains. I can only eat onions that have been cooked down to almost mush. Anything raw or that has any element of crunch to it is a no-go, as it will make me ill. I found it somewhat unusual, as I get fried rice all over town and have never encountered chunky onions before. I'm sure I could have asked them to leave them out had I known they were going to be in there. It tasted good, for sure, but having to continually move the onions aside (and there was a lot of onions) was offputting. Normally when i get fried rice, I eat some, and take the rest in a to go box. I did not take the rest home this time which is very telling. Anyway, service was excellent, and they were very attentive - for instance our server saw that my husband was giving me a spoonful of his udon, and without being asked he came over with an extra spoon, small bowl, and a ladle, which I thought was very thoughtful. I cannot fault the staff.

Then of course, covid put paid to the dishes on the belt, but they still had the main menu, which does have a lot of dishes on, to be fair. Well i heard recently they had restarted the belt, so i was eager to go back and we went last night. Usually i like to sit at the bar because i feel more immersed in the experience, however we were shown to a table. That's not a big deal though - as long as i can reach the plates, it's all good. It's quite a big space, and has an airy feel. We were promptly given (ice) water. Which of course is standard in most restaurants but i don't drink it if it's got ice. We ordered drinks (Pepsi - no ice, please) and told our server we'd be dining from the belt, and could i have some Wasabi. She brought that quickly for me. I now know that i must mix my wasabi with soy sauce, i learned a long time ago, with a nostril searing experience when i first came to the USA "Ooh look at the pretty green stuff!" I learned that the pretty green stuff has an unexpected and vicious effect when you breathe out through your nose. The selection was definitely not as good as pre-covid, however, we were one of the 1st diners, and as the restaurant started to fill up, the chef was adding more dishes to the belt. The dishes however were as good as i remember. Yes, it's Westernized Sushi, and not a true Japanese authentic Sushi experience, where you sit at a bar, and a Sushi Master with 40 years experience makes your dishes right before your eyes, and personally hands them to you, one after the other, no choices involved - you get what he gives you, and no mixing your wasabi with your soy - he puts a smear on the piece itself if he feels it needs it.
