False promises. I had a terrible experience with Dale Gallagher. I met with him concerning my underbite. He promised me he would also "shave" my chin bone down as he was also certified in cosmetic surgery. The actual day before surgery, we met at his office and he proceeded to tell me that he will not be shaving down the chin bone with no explanation. My only guess is the $$$ (we paid in cash). Also, he let me know that I would not be the in ICU (as discussed previously), but in day surgery. I wasn't prepared to how severe the surgery was and all the recovery it took. I had two young children at the time. My face looks worse and I still have problems with my jaw. I am reminded every day I look in the mirror. I wish I had researched and found a more reputable oral surgeon at the time. read more

Dr. Gallagher and his team changed my life! I started seeing them in 2019 right before I got braces. I felt like they were going to take care of be from the start and that is why I chose them. I was referred to Dr. Gallagher by a dentist(who I no longer see) because I have pretty severe TMD. Long story short, Dr. Gallagher said I needed to have an arthroplasty done and then in the future corrective jaw surgery. I went and got several (6) to be exact different opinions and none of them said to do the arthroplasty, and only one said if "I wanted a perfect bite that lower jaw surgery would get me there, but that is not the cause of all of my pain." Four of the oral surgeons I saw told me the way to handle my case (myofascial pain) is with Botox, one said to try physical therapy, acupuncture, meditation(already do all of those), and the sixth (doctor at UT San Antonio dental school) sent me to an Orofacial pain specialist, and wrote me some prescriptions for the interim. I don't know who is "correct" with their opinions, but so far the Orofacial pain specialist has brought me the most relief. read more

Dr. Gallagher changed my life. I suffered from TMJ pain for almost 20 years. During college, I was prescribed several medications and had an arthrocentesis done...none of which helped. I was told that there was probably nothing that could be done to completely fix my problems. Many years later I was referred to Dr. G by an orthodontist. I scheduled a consultation to see what my options were. He told me I had displaced disks as well as osteoarthritis and that I would need open joint surgery to repair my joints. After the first surgery, the jaw pain was gone. The first time I started using my jaw again and had zero pain and zero griding or clicking noies, I almost cried. I regained complete normal range of motion and was able to eat foods I hadn't been able to eat in a long time. However, Dr. G said my treatment wasn't over. He said for the surgery to be completely successful we would need to eliminate the underlying cause of the problem which was (in my case) an overbite and that would require orthodontics and orthognathic surgery. I was skeptical but followed along with the treatment plan. 2 years later, I have completed the second surgery to corrent my bite. I still have zero pain in my jaw joints and the clicking and griding noises are about 90% gone. Not going to sugar coat it..the road to recovery has been long and expensive but worth every penny. My only regret is that I didn't have this procedure done earlier in my life! If you are suffering from TMJ issues, schedule a cosultation. Dr. Gallagher is highly qualified to treat it. Aside from being skilled and knowledgable, Dr. Gallagher and his staff are also kind and caring people. They will call you at home after hours to check on you. I don't necessarily *want* to give 5 stars, because, really, who WANTS to have dental work done, besides Bill Murray in Little Shop of Horrors?! But because my experience there was as awesome as it could be, I'd give Dr. Gallagher and his staff 5 star-studded teeth! My dentist sent me to him after some X-rays didn't portray my teeth very well (i.e. a nasty infection). I met with some of the staff, who were very friendly. One woman took down my vitals and then I met the Doc. He told me what he would do and we set up an appointment for surgery just a few weeks later. He was very honest about things and thorough with answering all my questions--even questions I didn't know I had! They took good care of me while I was there (and even gave me flowers!). The afternoon of the surgery, someone from the office called to check on me. Dr. Gallagher called me himself the next day, on a Saturday! If you've gotta get some of the more serious stuff done, I highly recommend him! read more

My family paid $285 to hear a sales pitch for a $17,000 TMJ procedure that 99% of insurance companies would never cover. Everyone in this field knows this fact. Unfortunately, I researched this too late. We would not have scheduled a meeting if we knew ahead of time what our costs would be, which is why I guess we were not fully informed. If your family has no concerns about maintaining a monthly budget, then you'll be fine. In early 2016, our new family dentist felt that it was critical we meet with Gallagher to discuss a TMJ issue with our daughter. She insisted that both my wife and I be present at this meeting. She was very serious about this point, causing us concern that our daughter's immediate health was at risk. So we booked the appointment. We received an email from Gallagher which stated, "The consultation fee is $285. Please bring your medical insurance card so I can make a copy and submit the claim to your medical insurance as a courtesy. After the claim is processed if any amount is covered the payment will be sent directly to you." Sounds like the fee will be covered, at least some of it, right? We made the drive to the meeting in two separate cars, my wife from her job--she had to take the afternoon off with no pay--and I from Wimberley, a 2+ hour round trip. At the consult, x-rays were taken (why not use the pictures that were just taken at dentist?) Gallagher said that there were some issues, but they could wait at least a year(!) to do something. No emergency. So why did both of us need to be there? We believe that our now-former dentist insisted on our attendance so we could both be in the room for a sales pitch for a very expensive out-of-pocket procedure (did Gallagher train her to do it this way? Was a referral fee involved?) Any sales trainer will tell you your chances of getting a "yes" in the room increases when all the decision makers are present for the pitch. Sales 101. And pitched he did, frequently trumpeting his "superior" talents vs. his peers. At the end of the pitch, he presents my daughter a thumb drive with the unnecessary x-rays (I start to think now, "He's handing out office supplies--I bet this procedure is going to be expensive,") and then he leaves the room. He walks right out! Wait--why are you leaving? Are you not going to state the cost? No, that was office clerk's role in this heavily orchestrated sales pitch. $17,000! And it would have to be paid by us UPFRONT. "No problem--let me just reach into my stainless steel briefcase here...are $50s ok?" She couldn't even look us in the eye when she stated that figure--that should tell you something. Heck, when she insisted we pay the $285 "consult" charge that day she had to look away when she said "$285." (I wanted to be billed, but she insisted to be paid right then, stating "We'll submit it to your insurance for reimbursement." She knew there would be no reimbursement--her job was to get our money right then and get us out the door.) At no time did anyone, not our former dentist, not Gallagher, not the office clerk, mention the fact that insurance declines reimbursement for TMJ-related costs 99% of the time. Doesn't that sound negligent not to inform the patient of this fact? Scammy even? I called Gallagher directly after learning our insurance would not reimburse any part of the $285 sales pitch fee. I requested a refund of some amount, but he fell back to his sales pitch, reiterating his superior worth/value in comparison to his peers. I politely asked again for a refund and he became annoyed, but he did state he would look into it and call me back. Six business days passed with no response. I sent a certified letter. No response. I asked the referring dentist to reach out to him on my behalf. She sincerely said she would. I never heard back from her. I called her office numerous times and left messages. No response. Now what does that tell you? Doesn't this sound like some sort of scam to you? After being out $285 + 120 driving miles + and a half day's pay, it definitely feels that way to this family. read more

I had my top 2 wisdom teeth removed with Dr. Gallagher. My experience was exceptional from check in to check out. It literally took him 5 minutes to extract my teeth. The staff was friendly and he was not only highly skilled but also amusing throughout an intimidating procedure. I left with detailed instructions, a cute mug and a beautiful rose. These guys are good. From the receptionist to the surgical assistant to Dr. Gallagher himself, they are all competent and professional and just plain nice. My young daughter had to have some extractions and a procedure to make way for an adult tooth and Dr. Gallagher did a great job and Erica was outstanding in assisting with her recovery. They called often post-surgery to be sure she was fine (which I appreciated and not everyone does this) and she had very minimal pain. Dr. Gallagher removed my wisdom teeth some years ago, and I am pretty sure I have the best experience out of anyone I've talked to about this dreaded procedure. I am still super pleased with him today. Dr. Gallagher himself is able to give the anesthesia because of his training/licensing, I believe he is a DDS and PA. Dr. Gallagher performed a miracle on me. I had been living with TMJ disorder for over 15 years. During that time, other doctors told me there was nothing I could do except wear a mouth guard and take muscle relaxers and joint supplements. By chance, I was given a referral to Dr. Gallagher. During our initial consult he felt really confident he could repair my joints with surgery and he did! I had to undergo two surgeries: the first to repair my damaged joints and the second to correct bite issues that were contributing to my tmj problem. It was a multi-year process that involved wearing a mouth guard for awhile, a successful joint surgery, orthodontic treatment provided by the wonderful Dr. Schrader, and finally the jaw surgery. Today, I am completely free of pain and able to chew comfortably with a properly functioning jaw and bite and I am thrilled with how the jaw surgery and orthodontics improved my appearance. Dr. Gallagher is one of the best physicians I've ever worked with. He explained everything thoroughly and answered all my questions before I could ask them. During the tooth extraction they were exceedingly patient, and Dr. Gallagher handled my panic attack (needles, urgh) with real skill. The entire procedure took about 20 minutes, and they sent me home with flowers. He even personally called the next morning (Saturday) to review my meds and food for the day! I had absolutely no swelling at all, including the day after the extraction. I only took the prescribed pain meds the day of. The office called again 2 days later to check in. Dr. Gallagher was referred to me to do an "expose and bond" which means to open the gums and attach a chain to an impacted tooth to try and convince the tooth to move into the space it's supposed to occupy. I really was impressed with the professionalism of the office. Their procedure was quick and their followups have been excellent as well. I had a great experience with Dr. Gallagher and everyone on his team. From the time I first met him and throughout my 4 year journey to fix my TMJ and jaw issues, he was always professional, but down-to-earth. He would thoroughly explain the X-rays and records and what was needed to correct the problem and what to expect during the course of treatment (with my TMJ surgery and then my upper jaw surgery and the different dental appliances needed throughout). His treatment coordinator, Corinna, was always available to help with both financial/insurance questions and concerns I had about the surgery. All of the nurses, X-ray techs, and secretarial staff made each office visit pleasant and uncomplicated. Dr. Gallagher made the whole surgery/healing experience as stress-free as it could be. I have a collagen disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that makes it difficult to get numb. The last time I had a tooth pulled after 12 shots I still did not get numb and felt the entire extraction. That was the worst pain of my life. It was the evil opposite of my experience with Dr. Gallagher. I should have been more nervous, but Dr. G'S easy-going attitude and the knowledge that he had gone through the extra schooling to become a licensed anesthesiologist really put me at ease. He explained that he uses more powerful numbing medication than most folks around and from the first shot I knew that was true because I was already getting numb! During the minimal time it took him to extract the tooth, I was so relaxed and pain free that I was able to GIGGLE (combo of nitrous and Dr. G'S amusing quips) during this surgery! It was amazing. He had the tooth out clean before I knew it and was sewing me up! After, I too was given a cute mug, a lovely smelling rose, and when I saw my tooth it was pulled in one piece, expertly. Also, everyone on his staff are very informed and friendly. I was able to get in for initial exam the same day I called (after spending the night before in two different ERs because of the pain) and surgery was set up first thing the following day. I will never go anywhere else and recommend him to anyone. read more
