I went to this dentist many years ago to remove an impacted wisdom tooth as an adult. The office was beautiful and the staff was friendly. The procedure seemed to go well, but when I developed an infection and fever due to a small perforation in my sinus from the procedure, the doctor was dismissive, and I had to literally make an appointment to prove in person that there was a problem. After finally admitting there was an infection, he prescribed antibiotics and became defensive and belligerent. I have never gone back and do not recommend this doctor due to unprofessional behavior. read more

I was referred to Dr. Bookmyer by my dentist for a tooth extraction, post for an implant, and bone graft. This was my first time getting one of my teeth pulled (minus my wisdom teeth, which I was knocked out for) so I was definitely scared. The whole process took less than the time it usually takes me for an annual checkup. I was pleasantly surprised how fast and easy it was and my post-op care has been seamless. I heard horror stories about extractions / post implants from friends with their dentists where they were in so much pain even weeks later. I was prescribed pain relief by Dr. Bookmyer and didn't even need to use it. His staff is also very nice and professional. They made sure everything was pre-approved through my insurance and everything was set. I joke that I hope I never see this office again (because that would mean I wouldn't need their services) but I had a great experience :) read more

This office is excellent. I had some old root canals that failed and Dr. Bookmyer handled all my extractions and implants. Got my wisdom teeth out yesterday-- I took a peek in my mouth and things look great. Dental assistant was super sweet. Dr. Bookmyer is nice too! Both of them were very patient with me trying to get the IV in. I have bad veins and have had people get annoyed like that's my fault. My only complaint is that two hours after I got home, I received a call from their office informing me about a "possible drug interaction." I take an opiate inhibitor which I had the foresight to stop taking as I have had surgery before, but two hours post op is a little bit late to be informing patients of potential drug interactions. I would have been sitting at home in severe pain for over an hour had I not stopped taking it. Not cool. read more

The surgery was fast with no problems but the follow-up was not ideal. First off, the front desk staff is unwelcoming. Secondly, the oral surgeon was very unprofessional. I came to him with simple questions and concerns after the surgery and I was treated as if I was wasting his time. He didn't even give me 2 MINUTES of his time for the follow-up. I needed one of four wisdom teeth removed and my dentist referred Dr. Bookmyer. I'm so glad he did. My consultation went smooth and professional. Dr. Bookmyer was very professional. He fully explained everything that I could expect. I decided to have all four taken out instead of having to do this again later on down the road. So the big day arrives and I show up with two escorts, 'coz I'm special and all, and check in. I'm promptly called back by the Medical Assistant and she begins to prep me for the big event. Dr. Bookmyer comes in does his greeting, makes a little small talk, starts my iv, and gives me a bolus through the iv tubing. All I remember is I said "Hey, what the fuck was that?". He smiled and said "Just try and relax". Next thing I remember I am waking up with my two escorts staring and laughing at me. My mouth was stuffed with gauze and as hard as I tried to make conversation everything came out muffled. Dr. Bookmyer sent me home with a prescription for pain meds (best part), prescription mouth wash, instructions not to suck, but, swallow instead. Yes, swallow. I kept fading in and out of consciousness the rest of the day and apparently forgot to swallow so my gauze kept getting really wet with blood stained saliva which had me convinced that I couldn't stop bleeding so I made my niece call them and they were like "oh my bring him in". So off we go. Dr Bookmyer took out the gauze looked around in my mouth and said "you need to start swallowing". It appears this is a common thing. So if you are in this situation remember don't suck. Just swallow. HINTS/TIPS: I needed stitches with one of the removals. No biggie just annoying and they eventually came out on their own. After surgery on the first day use a cold pack. I have a hot/cold gel pack if you don't have one of those use some bagged veggies in your freezer. Every 30 - 45 minutes place cold pack on both sides of your face for 15 minutes. Wrap the pack in a towel. This will help keep the swelling down. I came out of this with very minimal swelling. I had my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday and was back to work on Friday. It wasn't a bad experience at all. Eat soft foods for a week and keep your mouth rinsed out very well. I just used the prescription rinse and didn't bother with the saltwater. read more

This surgeon is not a good one, be aware. My son went for an oral surgery and he end up loosing his two teeth that were supposed to be just impacted and broth down. When he asked Dr. Bookmyer about it he said well it is written in the consent that if they are stuck in the bone I have to remove them. What happened to informing the patient at the appointment time, before the surgery? This is a very bad practice and if I would have had enough money I would have brought him in the court. My son is still bleeding through his nose( apparently is ok) and has bruises around his mouth. read more

This is the best Dentist/Oral surgeon I have ever been to, which is exactly none before him! But don't let that deter you, this gentlemen and his staff are truly awesome. I went in on 11/18 to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed, under IV sedation. I have never had anything like this done before, as I just sort of forgot about my wisdom teeth until it was painful and caused, at least I thought, a ringing in my ear. The removal was pretty much painless, and I was comfortably out throughout the whole thing. Dr. Bookmyer did let me know that "I wasn't 18 anymore and there was going to be swelling and discomfort". He did right by me with after procedure treatment giving me antibiotic and pain meds, as well as a mouth wash. Fast forward to today and I am out of pain meds and still in significant pain. I called at 8:30am and let them know what was going on, they said they wanted to see me and scheduled me for 9:45am later this morning. I got there at about 9:15am and the lady at the front desk knew me and said she would let him know I had arrived. I was in the chair within 10 minutes after that and Dr. Bookmyer checked everything out and said that the one that is bothering my looks infected. He rinsed it out and gave me some new prescriptions to nip it in the bud. For the most part going to the dentist SUCKS, and still does lol. However, they make me feel like I am well cared for and my needs/comfort is very important to them. Here is to a dentist getting me in and out within an hour of calling them on a holiday week and listening to my concerns. You all are awesome, and will definitely be recommending you/using you for any needs I or my friends and family have in the future. The money spent has been well worth it! read more

5 stars and two thumbs up!! I was referred to Stephen Bookmyer by my dentist Kasey Lowrance (also wonderful) at Avery Ranch Dental for wisdom teeth extraction. I have never had a positive experience with a dental office prior to these two establishments. I went in for my initial consultation and was given my options regarding the surgery. I opted for the full sedation so I wouldn't feel a thing (mouth pain is the worst for me). I was given an estimate of the procedure and was very pleased. I returned for my scheduled surgery time as was in the chair promptly. The staff was very accommodating and hooked me up to the blood pressure and heart monitors. Dr. Bookmyer came in and started the sedation process. I remember he asked me a question and I was out!! I woke up and he said all done!. I was highly pleased with not feeling anything and still have the good effects from the medicine. I was told that I exited the chair and started doing the robot in the office @_@. I was lucky enough to have Dr. Bookmyer on call for the emergency room that I was taken to the night that I had a large dog bite through both my upper and lower lips. I had small wounds up to the bridge of my nose and down to my chin but the majority of the damage was a complete tear through my upper lip and most of the way through my bottom lip. Dr. Bookmyer was friendly, confident and reassuring the entire time. 40 stitches and 6 months later you can barely tell that there was a cut at all. There is little to no scarring and it feels great. I cannot thank the doctor enough for his calm demeanor and his skill in making sure that I healed the way I did. He even was happy to take calls and concerns after the fact even though I was at an ER for an emergency visit with out of state health insurance. read more

I was a bit apprehensive not knowing much about the doctor that was going to extract my tooth; however, it turned out to be an awesome experience! It is unfortunate that Dr. Bookmyer is likely a very good oral surgeon, but his office staff is unfortunately immature and unprofessional. After three different experiences, I found them to be very nice in making an appointment but unable to properly file insurance claims and unwilling to communicate effectively with me as a client. When asked to escalate to the Dr for any concerns, you are told that he will not discuss any issues directly. I would highly recommend finding a more professional office to work with. read more

I just got my braces removed and was urged to get my wisdom teeth removed because of the possibility of them moving my newly aligned teeth. Dr. Bookmyer and his staff were all super friendly and helpful. I was very nervous about the procedure and being put to sleep, but his staff made it not feel as scary. In the room before surgery started and the lady got me all hooked up she put a really comfy big blanket on me which was nice. I could not believe how great of an experience I had with this surgeon! I had seven teeth (four wisdom and three molars) removed in one sitting. The doctor used general anesthesia and was done and on my way home in a few hours. I was completely pain free within 48 hours and have had absolutely no complications since. One thing to note is that Dr. Bookmyer does not seem to care for digital x-rays, so be prepared to pay for a new set of x-rays if your general dentist sends digital set over to him. read more

I was referred to Dr Bookmyer by my dentist for wisdom tooth extraction- 2 on one side and 1 on the other. I had a consultation appointment at first , whiles in waiting room a video was played that answered pretty much all the questions I had about the procedure. Well done folks. Consultation was quick, he recommended IV full sedation. On the day of the procedure, I was very nervous but everything was well organized. Dr. Bookmyer did a great job when he had to take an extra tooth my 6 year old had in the roof of his mouth. The was a great room with a TV for him to rest while the "sleepy juice" took effect. His assistant was sweet and did a great job easing his anxiety. Once he was asleep, the procedure went quickly and my son only required a little Advil that day to get comfortable. I had 5 teeth removed last Monday and I went for a follow up today 8 days later. Three days after the procedure I had to go to another dentist to get looked at because I still had a lot of discomfort. So I go to the other dentist and he explains how he is surprised about how I don't have more "injuries" than I do right now. He shows me my xrays which I have seen many many times but he explains how one would've been hell to get out. So now I'm confused because I wasn't told anything about teeth that could be hard to get. So I then have to wait till my appointment the next week to get to ask him about my procedure because dr Bookmyer was out of town. Now today , the day of my follow up I go to him and It was a whole two minute conversation for my follow up. I try to ask about my procedure and he just says he doesn't remember anything because he does so many within a day.(which okay I get) and that it probably went great because he would remember if something went bad. (I mean somehow I managed to even have my neck bruised) I feel like I still wasn't told the whole story. Everybody I have explained the whole story in depth to also thinks it's weird. Either way I feel like during this process I wasn't given enough information, the ladies there were nice and seemed friendly but trust me when I say you better make sure to ask all the necessary questions before hand. I never thought I'd take the time to write a review for an oral surgeon, but I am still blown away by my recent visit there. I had developed a problem in my lower jaw, and was recommended by my family dentist Dr. Doug Conquest (who is awesome also). My appointment was at 10:00, so I got there at 9:45 to fill out what I thought would be the typical huge stack of paperwork and then begin the waiting game that is normal at a doctor's office. This was not the case at all. The paperwork was quick and easy, and I was sitting in an examination chair at 10:00 on the dot. Dr. Bookmyer immediately came in and examined my mouth, and told me that he could fix it right then (which to be honest I was not prepared for). I explained that I didn't have dental insurance, and that it would depend on the cost as to wether or not I could do the procedure at that moment. He worked with me on a price that was incredibly fair (to be frank I was shocked at how low it was), and then proceeded to get to work. He had to drill a fairly large piece of jaw bone that had protruded through the gum and was causing tons of discomfort. Not only was the procedure painless, it was astonishingly quick. In fact, I was back in my car on the way home at 10:45. In other words, from my arrival to departure it was just one hour. I still can't believe it. Lol. I have never been to any dentist or doctor and even just been examined that fast...let alone have surgery. Anyway. I hope this helps someone. Sorry it is so long. read more
