Amazing! I had an unusual request for my son's birthday...a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. They did an excellent job recreating the shape of the box, design original to Kraft, and the macaroni was spot on! All made with buttercream that was the perfect balance of sweet. Update: Second Review - One Day After Purchasing Now I'm really mad at myself. I dropped the cupcakes off for my friend's birthday yesterday and his coworkers ate them ALL! Then had the nerve to text me about how good they were - especially the chocolate cupcakes. The ones with the Reese's peanut butter on top had to be shared between three people. I did NOT need to hear that. I could barely make out what they were saying on the phone but it seems one of the chocolate cupcakes had something in the middle that was "delicious". In the immortal words of Scarlett O'Hara - "....they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry (for cupcakes) again. No, nor any of my folk (not sure on that one. ... I'll never be hungry again (because I'll never give away a cupcake from Dailey Cakes bakery again that's why). Lol Best Bakery: Initial Review - You Have to Go Here I picked up a dozen cupcakes about 30 minutes ago from this great bakery. I want to be deliberate with my words so I do this sister and brother owned business justice. First, the cupcakes are really, really good - exceptional. After leaving the bakery, I dug into the box at the Roland and Lemmon Avenue stoplight. The vanilla cupcake was light and moist. They didn't skip corners and just add lots of cooking oil to the batter. It was fluffy and light. I'm not a cook but I watch cooking shows. I love me some cakes and I love me some icing. This cupcake was good enough to eat without icing. When I say love I mean I could live off of cake and cookies.... and chicken fried steak. By the time I had driven to I75 and Lemmon I thought I had better check out the strawberry cupcake. The damage to the cardboard box holding the cupcakes was already done. Same thing, moist with tiny bits of strawberries in the cake. Fantastic. At this point I'm a little worried that I have two more miles to drive to get these cupcakes to a friend and his coworkers and I want to try the cupcake with the Reese's chocolate on top of the icing. I'm vexed as to should I pull the car over and sample the remaining cakes.... Alas, I stopped at two cupcakes but now that I have dropped the cupcakes off to the friend I'm hankering for another one. I made a decision based on morality and it was wrong. I should have just taken the whole box of cupcakes home. Dammit I'm mad at myself for trying to do the right thing. This is my new go to bakery. The brother (Michael) could have been any nicer. They had fresh cupcakes that had just cooled and we're not in the display cooler. Michael (the part owner that is the brother) ices and boxes them up for me. This is the type of business I want to support. By the time I left this place Michael acted like I was the most important customer of the day! There are a few things though. They did a such a good job taping the cardboard box shut it was hard to sneak the cupcakes out before I delivered them to my friend. I guess that's really a lot on me not them. Also, it would help to put a note on the outside of the cardboard box to have reminded me to clean off the icing from my upper lip after eating the two cupcakes. Wrong frosting, which I think is major because for us it made the cake inedible. After half acknowledging it was all on her (as I was very clear not verbally, but in an e-mail) she offers me a $10.00 credit!!! Laughable right. First, it was her mistake and to not refund or offer to make the cake correctly I thought was poor customer service. This is not a corporation, she has full authority on how to treat customers. I had high hopes because their cakes look great. Ordered red velvet cupcakes for a birthday. The cupcakes with writing did not look like my inspiration pictures. All of the cupcakes in general looked very plain. I have never had a more disgusting "cake". It was inedible; no one could stomach more than one bite. The entire thing went down the garbage disposal. When my husband ordered the cake, I was very excited. I love cake. I've been very sick--truly at death's door. This cake was to celebrate that I survived to my birthday and, since this was probably going to be my last birthday cake, he wanted to get me a cake to remember. It was. The description of this cake made it sound delicious: 4 layers of lemon cake with raspberry swirl buttercream. The pictures on the website were beautiful. When we took the cake out of the box, it was sky high and lovely. Then we cut into the cake: two layers, each about 3" high that, because there was more batter in the pan than there should have been, produced a cake that was burned all around the edges and undercooked in the middle. The cake--and I use that word loosely--was incredibly dense. The flavor had no resemblance to lemon--it was bitter "something" with a very weird aftertaste, like plain yogurt or cream cheese. The frosting was NOT buttercream. Real buttercream uses egg yolks as a base--given the price, the description, and the location of the shop, I did expect that the baker knows how to make real buttercream. That was a mistake. Instead of buttercream, the "cake" was covered/filled with an overly sweet confection of powdered sugar combined with some sort of fat. The frosting was so sweet that even the children complained. I took one bite: in my mouth, the overabundance of sugar made my teeth hurt. . .I swallowed. . . it landed in my stomach like a leftover Civil War lead bullet. I tried a second bite--always give a second chance, I used to think; two bites were two chances too many. The second bite confirmed that this "cake" had no redeeming qualities. My husband called the shop, hoping that our "cake" was the result of some awful mistake. . .perhaps it was prepared by a new baker who lied on their resume. The owner was less than understanding about our disappointment and that no one--not one single person--could tolerate more than two bites. My husband offered to bring the "cake" back for the owner to taste; surely she does not want something so awful coming out from a bakery named for her family. She refused. Do not make the same mistake we did. Save yourself, your family, your guests--stay away from Daisy Cakes in Dallas. read more
