I didn't stay very long. Kinda stumbled upon this place on my way back home to my hotel. Open late night for the most part and it was nice being able to grab a sweet treat to end the night. Can't remember the name of the place this was located in, but there are a lot other bars and restaurants in the same building. You can pretty much make a night out staying the that one location. I'd say more catered to younger crowd, but all ages are more then welcome

During my visit in Milwaukee earlier this week, I had the opportunity to stop by the Third Street Market Hall. Lively venue with varying restaurants (a radio station!), rich atmosphere with pleasant music. By suggestion of my Uber driver (thanks Muhammad), I christened my experience by stopping by dairyland to grab a burger with a milkshake. Not many flavors of ice cream to choose from but has a sizable amount of l add-one. Wait wasn't too long and was able to grab my meal and take a seat nearby to listen to enjoy with a live Polka Band playing for Octoberfest. Burger size was a decent. A la carte, so don't expect fries. Would recommend the cheeseburger over the regular, (girlfriend's cheeseburger was outstanding in comparison). However, the milkshakes (vanilla bean & chocolate fudge), in my opinion, were SWEEEET! I only got halfway before I had to had to call it quits. As well my girlfriend would normally kill a milkshake, but she drank very little. Overall, this why I can't give it my full 5 stars but I'd venture to say this was first impression (and it's a shake vs custard or malt) so your results may vary.

Dairyland was recommend as one of the best places to get custard and curds and I found myself walking over for a snack after a day exploring the Milwaukee Public Museum. It's located in the 3rd Street Market Hall, which boasts a large number of food stands - definitely worth exploring for foodies. After walking through the place, we wanted to try multiple restaurants, but we settled on our original plan since we weren't too hungry. I ordered my food online to avoid the line. Frozen Custard, One Scoop, Sweet Cream ($3.50) - I was a little confused when I saw the frozen custard being scooped out of a container in the freezer several feet away from the custard machines. I was further confounded when I saw a cup of what resembled ice cream much more than frozen custard. The custard served at Dairyland is dense, solid, and hard. You can see rough ridges in the scoop instead of it being smooth and soft. When you dig in with a spoon, additional ridges form in the dessert, rather than being dragged along like a fresh silky custard. It's creamy, somewhat milky, perfectly sweetened and smooth with no ice crystals. I think they keep their freezer temperature way too low and/or they don't serve enough custard before it completely freezes. A couple of the other reviews complain that the custard is watery and melts too fast. I had the opposite experience, so I wonder if they adjusted their recipe to the other direction a little too far? While I enjoyed eating this dessert (and my rating will reflect that), if you're looking for a real frozen custard, you should probably avoid this one. On a tangent, I never understood why sweet cream is not a more popular flavor - it's delicious, and I think I prefer it over the standard vanilla or chocolate. (4/5) Cheese Curds ($11) - These curds are beer battered with a delicate crisp on the exterior. Some of the cheese on the interior escapes from the batter, creating lumpy pieces that aren't all that distinct and kind of meld together into small blobs with other pieces. The cheese curds aren't as dense and firm as other places; instead they have more of a softer chew with less of a springiness. There's none of that stick on-your-teeth squeaky quality with these. The interior is hollowed out since the cheese has escaped, leaving an empty shell behind. As a result, there's not really any cheese stretch. The curds are not greasy at all. They are salty, but not overly salty. The curds come with a heavily flavored buttermilk ranch dip, especially tangy, which is quite overpowering for my tastes. (4/5) Warning: If you order via QR code/online, Dairyland does not call out your order number! You have to go up to the counter and specifically tell them that your order is ready. The food at Dairyland is pretty good. I would stop by again, especially if I'm hungry and can pair it with some of the other places in the food hall. Overall rating of the food this visit: 4/5

Easy to order, walk up place order wait for your number to be called. It's in the 3rd street market hall, and it's an awesome place to go with lots to do. The food is excellent. Burgers have lots of flavor and perfectly cooked. Fries have good seasoning and I love having cheese dip as an option.

Pretty cool joint to grab some burger, fries, curds or custards. The menu is very equivalent to Culver's in the Midwest but I will say that what makes this shop standout is their exceptional customer service. The entire crew was really friendly and made our experience awesome. The food did not taste bad at all also. Freshly made and piping hot. Just a heads up, since this is located within the 3rd st market... this place is cashless.

After trying Wisconsin style custard from a couple other places, this was my favorite. The menu is straightforward/simple, but the flavor of the custard is great.

This review is for their custard. Outside of Wisconsin, you may be able to get away with serving this, but you're going to be called out for a sub-par product in WI. This custard has a gritty and watery consistency. I got the flavor of the day, and as you can see from the photo, it was low on toppings. Do yourself a favor and skip this frozen dairy dessert.

My friend from Milwaukee suggested the 3rd street market hall for a late afternoon snack and it was my first time visiting. I'm a huge fan of frozen custard and how could I not try Dairyland. The flavor of the day was d'oh nut. The description on the menu was vanilla bean custard with supernova strawberry glazed donuts, strawberry fluff, strawberry jam and jimmies. I asked the cashier what jimmies were and she said sprinkles. I ordered two scoops: 1 sweet cream and 1 flavor of the day. She first rang up at $7.39; I said the total should be $5.28 ($5.00 for 2 scoops plus 5.5% state tax). She then corrected herself but never once apologized. I already had my credit card by the machine and realized the receipt showed $6.1 after stepping away. The receipt showed frozen custard $5.75 plus $.35 for state tax. There were several people in queue and I stayed in line and asked her what that $.75 was for. She sighed, rolled her eyes and said it was for the jimmies. I never once asked for extra jimmies as it's part of the flavor of the day. There was another gentleman with glasses working there asking if there was an issue. I tried to explain to him but he and the cashier both said the charge was correct. If the jimmies from the flavor of the day comes with an extra charge, that should be clearly communicated to the customer before payment. Now onto the custard. The flavor of the day was just a piece of donut with custard. That was all. I didn't see any vanilla bean like the black specks/seeds, and definitely nothing strawberry fluff/jam. It's absolutely false advertisement! It was a very disappointing experience as I was hoping to add another frozen custard place to my list on my blog and recommend to out of town friends. Definitely not this place.

Moving up I've been a super fan of Dairyland since their back door operation in Oak Creek. This is a great upgrade from the zocalo food park. I'm looking forward to future visits The 3rd Street location is definitely still under construction but it's got a lot of potential. The offerings at dairyland are all fantastic: burgers, chicken and fish but their sides are all the rave too. Dairyland curds are one of the best in town. They even have custard which is on par with Kopps. Friendly service, I'm hoping online ordering is back soon to reduce the wait.

    Original spicy chicken sandwich
    Jerilyn A.

I've now tried dairy land twice, the first time I had a burger and the second time the original spicy chicken sandwich. I wasn't a fan of the burger, it wasn't hot and that probably contributed to it being lackluster. The chicken sandwich was hot and juicy which are positives but didn't taste spicy to me and was just okay. The star to me was the sweet cream custard which was very thick but very good and I would have that again.

The ice cream is ridiculously smooth, rich, and packed with flavor--like you can tell right away this isn't your average scoop. Everything is handcrafted with high-quality ingredients, and they even rotate unique flavors that keep you coming back just to see what's new. From classics to wild combos (yes... whiskey ice cream is a thing), every bite hits. And let's talk portions... that "double scoop" is basically a challenge in disguise. No complaints though. The vibe is awesome too--laid back, creative, and full of energy. It feels like one of those spots you stumble into and immediately know it's gonna be a regular stop. Fast service too! Honestly, it felt like stepping into a Kangra Knova track-- "Take you up so high... into outer space" because that's exactly what this ice cream does

Date of visit: March 28, 2026…read more I am shocked and appalled that I have never posted a review of Purple Door despite all the times that I have come here. I live near Kopp's and I come here about as much as I go there even though it's not at all convenient! The variety of flavors, from old standbys like strawberry and butter pecan, to the more unusual such as strawberry hibiscus or road gravel ensure that there's a little something for everyone, and it certainly does not hurt that they make their waffle cones fresh on site. This is not a drill, people! And while I thoroughly enjoy the waffle cone smell, my heart is always set on a milkshake and Purple Door almost always comes through (there has been the occasional time that they are out of milk but thankfully that was not the case on this visit!). This time around was Salted Caramel Cookies and Cream and it was fantastic. I will say that I struggled mightily both getting the straw out of the plastic wrapper and then getting the damn thing into the lid. I ended up aborting the entire mission and just removed the top and drank it out of the cup, which was good because there was a massive chunk of cookie at the bottom that wouldn't have made up a regular straw, much less that lame excuse they were handing out that evening.
