At the very last minute, my best friend decided she wanted a Babe's banana split for her birthday treat. Because I knew another member of our tribe would want to be there, I invited her and her partner as well. All in all, there were going to be seven of us, so my partner and I quickly headed to Babe's to warn them that we were going to have a large group. The young staff was friendly and amiable, allowing us to move furniture in order to accommodate everyone. The banana split is a create-your-own adventure, allowing the customer to choose three flavors of incomparable Chocolate Shoppe ice cream as well as three toppings!! Unfortunately, we were told that they didn't have any bananas for splits. (Cue "Yes, We Have No Bananas.") Birthday Girl was quite disappointed, but what are you going to do? While everyone else was being served, one of the staff realized they had frozen bananas that were supposed to be chocolate-dipped, so I asked if that could be used for the split. We were told yes! I don't remember what flavors the birthday girl chose, but I do remember her big smile when she got her split. LSTS: If it wasn't for the manager, we wouldn't have gotten served. The worker ignored us when I walked in. When we were all ready to order my mom stepped up and had to ask her if she would sever us ice cream she only took care of my mom and step dad. Then she stopped working and taking orders as soon as her mom came in. Even her mom asked her to finish the customers in line and she ignored the entire line including the order is was in the middle of and told her mom that everyone was order was done. Which was incredibly inconsiderate and wrong. Before the mom left, she told her kid (the worker) that she has 15 mins left and should be working. After the mom left the worker continued to not help any one. Thank goodness for the manager (lady in the red shirt) she actually saw what happened and took over the line. It was our first night of our family vacation and I love coming to Wisconsin because of the people and the customers service but I guess that doesn't count for this restaurant. But the lady in the red shirt deserves a raise and the worker needs it fix her (their) priorities. The ice cream was really good (I would just go to a different location). read more

Well, came here to celebrate my birthday with some friends. Can't go wrong with a banana split, ESPECIALLY not from here. It's fully customizable. You can choose 3 different scoops of ice cream and , 3 toppings that are then topped with whip cream, almonds and a cherry! I got the fat Elvis, Classic Vanilla and blueberry cheesecake. Then I got peanut butter, raspberries and chocolate sprinkles. Additional sprinkles on top for my birthday. The hiccup of no bananas was resolved, which made my heart really happy. Def recommend extending an invite to split this banana split. Date of visit: June 30, 2025 After visiting the wonderful Ni Burmese down the street on a lovely summer day, nothing sounded better than a refreshing ice cream shake. I hadn't been to Babe's in years and being a short walk down Kinnikinnick, I was really looking forward to seeing what they had on offer today. Staff was very friendly and openly suggested samples for those that might be bashful and I did ask to try the Espresso Oreo first, just in case it was overly coffee-flavored, but that was not the case and proceeded to order a shake of that flavor. They do bill their shakes as thick and that is definitely truth in advertising with this sucker difficult to enjoy through a straw, especially the thin straws at the counter! The flavor was good but two big caveats here: 1. I was asked if I wanted whipped cream, and I said yes, but I wasn't told that it was an add-on. Had I known, I would have skipped it. I know it's only a dollar, but this sucker was already pushing $10! 2. There was so much whipped cream that I could barely taste the ice cream. I wanted a shake but got more of a pup cup! read more

It's a seasonal shop that has about every ice cream flavor you can imagine and creates so many substitutions and "free" options that everyone is accommodated. Dairy free, egg free, tree nut free, gluten free, peanut free, soy free and all natural. In addition to being Kosher certified they even have flavors with no sugar added, caffeinated and non-dairy oat based ice cream! 32 flavors to pick from leaves you standing a bit overwhelmed but the fact you can try a little sample helps you narrow down the field. My 3 yr old twins were strictly COLOR based so a birthday cake with big pops of blue and a pink something was the winners. My husband and I did combos and I fat Elvis and salted Caramel mix! The place is so cute instead the walls are painted in colorful characters and kids enjoying ice cream, all with the classic black and white cow print woven in. You'll always see people sitting out on the patio, enjoying their ice cream and watching the bustling activity on the street and passersby. This last time, I went to pay, the bill was $45.00 for 3 cones, I pulled out a 100, the woman at the register called loudly to the owner, who came over, reached under and tapped a small piece of paper taped about counter level to the plexiglass, in thin red marker that said no bills over 100. I had to back up to look at it, said oh I'm sorry I didn't see it and he started with a story about his friend, I have no idea what the rest of the story was as he was sort of turned to the back wall while talking. So shaming the customer is ok when the sign isn't as visible as it could be and then taking the 100 anyhow. Hopefully they've made a better sign if it's that big of a deal. Not going back. read more

Was craving something sweet and wanted to try a local spot. Not going to lie, I am a sucker for anything butterscotch. I got the scotcheroo with pb, butterscotch and chocolate. It was really good. My only complaint is price for qty. 6.50 for one small scoop in a waffle cone seemed pricey compared to the plenty of custard shops here in MKE. I had a really good vegan brownie sundae from here. The only things keeping it from being amazing is the soy ice cream they use. It's not as creamy and yummy as cashew milk, oatmilk, or even almond and coconut milk. It was still good though and I would return if in the area again. I love all of the vegan toppings that are available, not just nuts. There are also other vegan goodies like shakes, ice cream cakes, and ice cream sandwiches. Overall, I was not impressed with babes. It was quite a let down as it had a lot of rave reviews. Their flavor options were lacking, however, they did have a lot of vegan and gf options which is nice. I also think it is relatively overpriced for what you get and when I went the staff was not the friendliest. Okay, here it is: I don't love ice cream. Typically I think it's too sweet and too cold to really enjoy. That said...Babe's is great. If I had to get ice cream from anywhere in Milwaukee, it would be here. Their ice cream is creamy and flavorful. Yes, their ice cream is sweet of course, but it is not overly sugary at the expense of the flavor. There is enough variety here to likely satisfy everyone, along with a sizable selection of gluten free, dairy free, and vegan options. They are also one of the ONLY places that does a truly kid-friendly sized option. Like, just one small scoop in a cup. It's perfect. Of course, if you're looking for larger portions, they've got you covered with your standard delicious smelling waffle cones made in-house. They name their delicious, ever-changing offerings with names to go with the mood their in. There's one that includes bourbon and is named to suggest it is for frustrated parents. I looked at the menu and was intrigued by all of the different VEGAN options. I ordered a Oreo shake. It was okay. This is my favorite ice cream in MKE. I initially had this type of ice cream in Madison from a place called The Chocolate Shop. When I moved to Milwaukee, I was so excited to see that logo on Babe's door! YUM. Every time I go I get a pint to take home of the Fat Elvis. It is peanut buttery and chocolatey with banana ice cream -- everything about it is perfection. This shop is also super conveniently located on KK in Bay View. It is easy to stop in and grab a cup, cone or pint after any dinner out on KK. read more

I'm happy to have an ice cream shop in my neighborhood, the perfect treat for a hot summer day in Bay View. Babe's offers a ton of flavors and options from Wisconsin's own Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. If you aren't familiar with this brand of ice cream, it's made in Wisconsin and the flavors are excellent. If you're a chocolate lover, the Zanzibar is extraordinarily decadent. My favorites are Zoreo, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, Lemon Meringue (seriously dreamy), Chocolate Cherry Bomb. And I can't help but love the name of one of them, "Exhausted Parent." While I wish we had an actual custard stand in Bay View (lookin at you Kopp's and Leon's) that made their flavors in house, this place helps fill my constant craving for frozen cream. I just wish they had consistent hours and my biggest beef is it costs a fortune for a tiny scoop. I've never been to an ice cream shop that is so dang skimpy with their portions. Vegan Friendly Hands down the best (and only?) vegan ice cream shop in Milwaukee. Everytime im down on KK I always stop in. They do milkshakes and sundays and even home make vegan whipped cream. Generally have 6-8 vegan choices, Generally always the same rotation of choices. You can also order vegan ice cream cakes which is great, and im excited to try.
