Had some lunch at Archies next door (they share the same dining areas). Decided on a small cup of ice cream for dessert (you're probably wondering how we had room after have an Archie Burger :). Scratch is connected to the Archies, and you can walk between them. The place has the same vintage decor. It's bright and cheerful. They either have hand packed ice cream from a case of 16 flavors, or you can get some portioned items in a case. They might also include some items from "The Bake Shop" across the street. Ended up getting a couple of flavors, the coffee brownie with chocolate fudge. A great combination. And a nice treat after our burger lunch. Don't know if I would come just for the ice cream. Overall I would rate the ice cream good, but not great.

Scratch ice cream is delicious! So many fun flavors to try. I've had their ice cream before from the cart that will be at different events and the pints you can buy at Groppi's but this was my first time actually at their ice cream shop. They have a couple locations, we were in west Allis. The west Allis location shares a building with a burger space so there is very much a diner feel. I really liked that they had napkin holders on all the tables as I can get a bit messy when eating ice cream. Definitely grab some scratch ice cream!

Stopped by Scratch Ica Cream on a recent hot summer's eve. The shop is adjoined with Archie's (50's style burger spot and bar). We had dinner at Archie's and decided to hop over to Scratch Ice Cream for dessert. Their decor matches Archie's (50's flare) and is reminiscent of an old 50's soda fountain. I got a single scoop of caramel oreo ice cream in a cup. It's exactly as it sounds: caramel ice cream with crushed oreo cookies throughout. Seriously? What's not to love? The ice cream is creamy dreamy decadence. They have 8-10 ice cream options, so a bit on the smaller side. But my dining companion and I were both able to find flavors we were excited about. Get to it!

This place is adorable, paired next to Archie's flat top. It has the old school dinner feel and decor to match. They rotate the ice cream flavors often. I tried the "coffee and toffee" and my partner got "fudge brownie cookie dough", the coffee and toffee was very buttery and creamy with pops of toffee. The fudge brownie cookie dough was loaded with toppings, can't ask for much more.

We love Scratch ice cream!!! So many fun flavors and a big freezer full of pints to take home. The first time we visited Scratch, we picked up a few pints to go. Mint chip, cold brew & toffee, birthday cake, and door county cherry. All of the flavors were a big hit, but the cold brew & toffee was my personal favorite. Our second time getting ice cream was dessert after Archie's burgers. I love the ease of ordering burgers and ice cream for the perfect meal! It's got a fun 50's diner vibe for casual dining. The people working are always helpful and polite! They never get annoyed with me for getting samples ;) There are vegan options which I haven't tried, but heard are delicious. I suggest going now so you can try out the pumpkin pie flavor I had the other night--YUM!

In front is a sunken tree garden that must be a neat place to enjoy your food when the weather is nice. It's very shaded and has nice benches and a relaxing vibe to it. It's also the only place that I saw to sit down and enjoy your food. Inside the building is quite large but only has about 4 tables to stand next to without any seats. I think most people either go eat the food in their car or take it home. I ordered 2 scoops of their frozen soft serve custard. The flavored scoops were vanilla and turtle pecan. It cost $5 and change which was a real value too. I stood in a short line and had my dessert in less than 5 minutes. They have several lines to stand in to serve the many customers who come here. The vanilla scoop was rich and delicious. The turtle pecan scoop rocked my world! It had many half pecans in it and the custard was perfect in a buttery like taste that made me what to order another serving but in the interest of my waistline I decided not to. This custard impressed me. They also serve burgers, hot dogs, etc. too and I am sure it's all good here. This is a big operation that serves many people. I counted somewhere between 15-20 people working there all dressed in their white uniforms behind the counter. I wish we had a Kopp's where I live!

Having tried them for the first time, I have to say, I can completely understand why they would say that, even without prior knowledge. I could definitely see the potential from the first bite of the burger. Patties were cooked right and gave me pleasant feeling of decent bite, except for being a bit bland. Buns definitely did not add anything to the totality of the burger, staying consistent with what everyone says. Made me wonder what kind of buns they used to use that made it better. Did not care for the soggy, green leafy part of lettuce they shoved into it. Like a normal person, I prefer a bit of crunch in my burger lettuce, but it did nothing but take away from the experience. I was sold on the idea of fried onions, but my onions didn't look or feel fried. Maybe my expectations were different on what fried onions meant? I was imagining deep fried battered onions, but maybe what I got was non-battered fried onions. Either way, it didn't leave any impression. I think I also made the mistake of asking for ketchup and mustard without specifically asking just how much. My burger ended up being too sour due to too much of both. I think I read on their website somewhere that I was supposed to be able to taste the specialness of their Wisconsin cheese, but everything else about the burger was so overpowering that I barely could tell if there was any cheese at all. Fries were SUPER soggy from the get go. I *only* brought the bad outside to open it immediately after grabbing them, so it wasn't like they stayed in the bag long enough to get soggy. Now.. having said all that. Custards were amazing! Definitely at the top of my list of frozen custards I've had thus far. The girl at the counter had me try both the daily specials and both were super good. So good that I'll probably drive my girls an hour out here just to buy them custards, especially as it gets warmer. If it were just for burgers and fries, I might have given them two stars. But since the name of the institution is Kopp's Frozen Custard, I'm more inclined to be a bit forgiving.. I had them at 3 stars originally, but I think I'll bump it up to 4, landing them personally at 3.5.

Everything is handcrafted with high-quality ingredients, and they even rotate unique flavors that keep you coming back just to see what's new. From classics to wild combos (yes... whiskey ice cream is a thing), every bite hits. And let's talk portions... that "double scoop" is basically a challenge in disguise. No complaints though. The vibe is awesome too--laid back, creative, and full of energy. It feels like one of those spots you stumble into and immediately know it's gonna be a regular stop. Fast service too! Date of visit: March 28, 2026…read more I am shocked and appalled that I have never posted a review of Purple Door despite all the times that I have come here. I live near Kopp's and I come here about as much as I go there even though it's not at all convenient! The variety of flavors, from old standbys like strawberry and butter pecan, to the more unusual such as strawberry hibiscus or road gravel ensure that there's a little something for everyone, and it certainly does not hurt that they make their waffle cones fresh on site. This is not a drill, people! And while I thoroughly enjoy the waffle cone smell, my heart is always set on a milkshake and Purple Door almost always comes through (there has been the occasional time that they are out of milk but thankfully that was not the case on this visit!). This time around was Salted Caramel Cookies and Cream and it was fantastic. I will say that I struggled mightily both getting the straw out of the plastic wrapper and then getting the damn thing into the lid. I ended up aborting the entire mission and just removed the top and drank it out of the cup, which was good because there was a massive chunk of cookie at the bottom that wouldn't have made up a regular straw, much less that lame excuse they were handing out that evening.

Next, I had the Cauliflower Bites and Superbad burger. The Cauliflower was nicely breaded, and tender yet firm. The Superbad is perfect for anyone looking for a little spice to their burger, and yet isn't too powerful. My friend ordered the Mozz Sticks, and we admittedly were pleasantly surprised by how delicious they were. Now, before you think none of that sounds amazing stop and pause. The charcuterie had some of the most amazing cheeses I've tasted in a while and the portions were very generous. I actually thought that was the party food for the night and was quite satisfied with my little serving when I noticed pizza was being served. The pizza was absolutely delicious. I tried the sausage and the pepperoni with jalapenos. I usually don't like pepperoni. This was fabulous! It had a job of sweetness to it and the tiny pepperonis weren't bitter and overpowering. The jalapenos added just a little punch and the slice was perfectly balanced. I truly enjoyed it and I haven't enjoyed pizza since college back in the 1980's! We were treated to a cotton candy glitter puff to drop in our warm mulled wine. I'm adventurous so I tried it! I enjoyed the beverage but I'm not sure if the cotton candy added anything to the drink. It was super sweet but I LOVE super sweet wine so that was fine by me! The fact that the beverage was warm made it perfect in my opinion. The glitter bomb part -- I'm not so are about.
